Everything you did today is beyond my reach I was taught back in the 70s about automobiles and now that automobiles have all these computers and all these sensors to be quite honest Ray this crap scares the 💩out of me. Ray can you recommend a school or somewhere I can teach myself that information? God bless your boss you’re the man✝️✝️✝️
great just great
Try doing that in your home garage. Not happening.
I watch only two auto repair channels – yours and Eric O's. I know how to spin wrenches, but you guys are master classes in diagnostics.
The video had 4 non blonds , that’s how you know it’s good 😁
I use the GM tech website and a generic pass thru box with much success to reflash.
It's obvious Ray has a next level intelligence with car diagnosis and repair or maintenance. It's a natural gift. No amount of education or experience can put anyone to this level.
Maybe talking to the camera is massively improving his skills level.🤣
It's amazing how you are knowledgeable in both mechanical and electrical diagnostic techniques and maintenance.
Well done Ray. 👏
If you had your own automotive shop, you will become a J- OF ALL TRADES.
Okay, the bit about having to call Big Brother to get the car computer validated and set up freaks the heck out of me.
This was a cool video. Never seen an ECM replaced and programmed.
Do you have a link or part number for those leads you are using? The blue and black ones.
Modern vehicles are crap
quick question when determining that the ECM was bad by checking power to the purge solenoid you had the battery disconnected wouldn't that not make it have power going to it anyway?
why don't you just program the pcm with a tech2
..that's paint..
So Ray, why can one not operate the ECM programmer without an outside service?
Very interesting Ray, its great to know how these things are programmed to work
Nothing like minimum wage work from home phone service. I couldn't deal with that mess.
As an old shade tree mechanic, one of the things watching this channel has amazed me is that although I know that codes are stored to tell you what's happened, I didn't know that with the right scan tool you could activate/deactivate subsystems all over the car.
Having to call and make an appointment to install a new computer is startling.
There is still a lot of basic wrench turning that goes on, but wow, I'm never attempting to work on a modern car except to change the oil or maybe do brakes.
First off I watch all your videos and would like to seek help with my 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 gas banger I love it but it constantly wants to shutter and shake and suck in a massive amount of air till it stalls do you have any suggestions we’re to start looking???
It’s a 5.9 360 I would greatly appreciate it
after installing the new ECM; I did not hear a resounding "CLICK"
Best one yet
You forgot to remind the programming dude to have himself a great day.
Man. You got blacks in America. Damn.
Crap I need to take my truck to you, cuz I think this is my issue.
You are the kind of mechanic we want working on our vehicles…RMR….you sir are a true professional and I appreciate the vids. That and your sense of humor…click, do de do de dooo, gravity and so on.
You don’t make clickbait vids…thank you!!!
I would let this guy perform open heart surgery on myself! 😁
I really liked this one… thanks!
I have a truck just like that plagued with evap issues, will definitely share this vid with my mechanic… Lol j/k that's me! Last resort paying for ecm. Thanks for the info on the bulletin about the hoses, I was afraid to pull it off and breaking/cracking them. Love your vids btw! Side note I have 160k miles on my 4wd Z71 ext cab so far
Wow. 51k miles!
Genius 👍👍👍
Amazing how complicated today's vehicles are. For me, I'll stick with my pre-obd cars
that is almost as bad as my signature
Oh boy! "Garbage in…Garbage out" and guess its stolen car..she calls the Police …Ray and Customer are arrested.
I'm surprised your shop doesn't have a TIS2Web subscription and a MDI2 (and comparable subscriptions and tools for other manufacturers) . Would be so much faster and easier to be able to do it on your own.
Great work!!
You manage your time well…to adapt
Nice to dress that battery…definate peace of mind on that.
all l can say is WOW !!! You should work for NASA .That was awesome ! it was like watching a magic trick.
Here is South Africa , the 5 piont summit V8 engines are giant size !
Over here 3L v6 engibes and 4 L v6 engines are the powerfull units. Ford South Africa has the 2.2 Litre straght 4 here , but I must say for the size , tge performance is very very goid.
Alsolight on diesel fuel !
Now if you had not bought that scan tool you could not have done what you just did on that truck, its paid for its selfe
This tool make you more valuable its better then what the shop has as you stated.
A good buddie of mine kept up with the ever changing tools I belive that unit can be flashed for new models as they are interduced unless they move from odb2 to odb3 as they had talked about 15 years ago. Toyota kind of started this
My 88 supra has somthing like it but most the new scan tools won't work on it.
I dont even out a scan tool not even a cheap one. I should buy one.
The mechanic I knew like to drive without a seat belt on, I took him to a dealership once before id start the car I made him put it on. 10 years ago going to a new car dealer for parts durring a snow storm he rolled his truck on an icy bridge fell out the driver door window and got crushed by the truck. Killing him.
Wear your seat belt. In a parking lot no big deal. Out in traffic put it on.
Good Job Here.
Rainman, can you show us how you video your work? Love to see camera, mounts and microphone
Jesus, how much is a new ECM for that Silverado? When I was looking for new ECM for my Seat Toledo 1.9 Tdi 2001, here in Czech Republic, it was like 800 USD (eg. my mothly salary). Bought used one for 100 USD though and still working fine… 😀
I'd be curious to see if you got the same results if you had used an incandescent test light to check the vent solenoid circuit instead of a voltmeter.
Good shit dude….
hummm a German flag plate on the front
Been a tech since 1981 nice videos to see what is going on now. Thanks
Dad's 2000 Chevy 4×4 with the 5.3 keeps popping the EVAP code, he brings it to me to get me to clear the code and he goes on his way, happy the lights out for another week or so.
Slight deja vu on the programmer getting it wrong and then not coming back to you. Haven't you had that particularly delightful example of customer service before on your videos?
So many failing parts on such a new car makes my stomach churn.
