The owner of this vehicle didn't put much car on his vehicle. That engine bay is scary…🤣

  2. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars The other Dave says:

what a pain in the rear end, just to get to the alternator. I had enough trouble with my ole 350 chevy engine back in the day, this would drive me nuts hah.

  3. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Tom Bowman says:

I thought you were going to replace an alternator for f***s sake.

  4. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Able1240 says:

How many miles on the Lexus

  5. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Dickerson says:

I put a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator to protect it from "ME" damaging it.

  6. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Dickerson says:

For all of those people who ask, "Why Is It So Expensive To My Car Repaired"? Look at all of the work that it takes just to get to a simple alternator. Thank you for showing us the answer to that "age old question".

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michel Brown says:

Must we understand that the radiator cap has influence ou the alternator charging voltage ? ? ?? ? ?

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michel Brown says:

When the engine runs, the battery should mesure 14,volts all the time . . Don't they repair and replace parts in the country where this car is built ? ?

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Augustus Shook says:

I worked in a shop for 8 years back in the 70s. If I had to work on these cars of today I would need mental health, You do a expert job. Thank You for the great videos…

how can I buy NOCO cleaner and Acid Detector from you.

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars WILFRED1184 says:

On these engines, I have learned that it is easier to just evacuate the a/c and remove the low pressure line from the compressor. It give you more room and you don't have to remove the motor mount or the thermostat housing.

  12. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Darktele says:

    Give it back!

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars James Fraizer says:

How Did That Engine Get In There?

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Pastyman says:

What a badly designed engine bay for access, obviously the Lexus designers never worked on there own vehicles.
I would have lost it very quickly.
I hate badly designed products especially cars.

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars abergbe1 says:

No wonder that Lexus is a very expensive car, but there should be a law against building cars in this way!

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars randy beard says:

How many times have we just walked away from a job like this for just a few minutes and cool off, come back and everything goes much smoother…

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars randy beard says:

Remember when you are Working on a Lexus, you are just working on a High End Toyota–just curious, would it be easier to remove alternator from underneath engine?

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Andrew Caple says:

Fyi lower bolt can be reached through the wheel well, take the 2 10mm bolts out and peel back or take the panel off, shallow 14 mm and a flex head ratchet. Will avoid taking the motor mount off. Warranty labor time on the job was 2.6 lol.

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars slowbutsure504 says:

I cant stand working on any vehicle designed after about 2003… Just no thought put into it.

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars mark williams says:

Why would Lexus bury the engine beneath all this plastic? Makes no sense

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars deepsquat600 says:

biggest engine idiot shield I have ever seen …wow

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Howard Jr. Ford says:

It's a lexus with only 91k miles and it needed an alternator . Someone needs to show this to Scotty Kilmer . According to him a Lexus never breaks .

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars souleater32 says:

remove 50 % of the motor and then can get to the alt .its why , i like older vehicles'. easy to work on.alt is out in the open and not stuck behind a pile of crap

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Richard Green says:

Lexus really didn't want anybody to get access to the engine to do any repair work. Trying to get access to a 'nator that is so buried under "stuff" would make anyone grumpy. But I guess if you can afford a Lexus, you are not worried about what the mechanic has to go through to get access to a part.

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Joseph Gaydosh says:

The engineers that design these vehicles should have to work on them and then maybe they would think twice about making them so hard to work on.

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Keith Radford says:

All that for an alternator!! Amazing. I reflect back on the old days when it was up front, easy to get to and about a 30-minute job. This is crazy!

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bob Audette says:

Well not looking forward to change my father alternator if it dies on is RX 2012. BTW Lexus was almost named Alexis .. So lexy is funny 😉

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Greggg57 says:

SOB! Remind me to never buy a Lexus. What a pain to just change the alternator. I could have changed alternators 20 times on my 1999 Mazda B4000 in the amount of time you needed for that 'yota alternator. And here is a fact; my truck has 239,000 miles on it and the only thing I ever had to work on was a blown front brake line. Nothing else has broken. Not even in the suspension area. I love that truck. Wish it wasn't such a gas hog.

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ed Konstantellis says:

That Lexus makes a Beemer look easy to work on

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Tim Hardin says:

Dude…I was yelling at you to install the t-stat housing before the pulley, but you didn't hear me.😂

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars creekdweller says:

All that to replace an alternator. I have said this before, but these new sideways engines are not designed to maintain. They are designed for easy assembly line installation of the drivetrain. And they’ll all last 100,000. Then take em to the crusher

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gary Barker says:

I thought Lexus were supposed to be good cars?

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Korn Dawggy says:

Boy, they really go crazy with all the plastic covers on the newer vehicles. With my luck, I probably would've put a hole in the radiator while being frustrated pulling that alternator out of there or putting the new one back.

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars GeekBoyMN says:

Except for a Mitsubishi a buddy had in the 90s I had to jack up to get to the 'nator from underneath, all the others I've done over the years were easy. You have way more patience than I probably would have!!

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Xavier says:

damn i was like that when i change the headgasket on my prius.

    Dead Batteries & Charging Them:

I am a Master Class "A" Tech Retired, I'm a ASE Master Car & Light Truck, Auto Machinist, / Gas & Diesel Tech. Also, ASE Master HD Truck/Trailer, Gas / Diesel Tech. A Marine Master Mechanic by over 45 Manufacturer Certified. And I hold a College Degree in Electronics, and I taught Auto/HD Truck Mechanics. I have over 44 years experience in the field, even worked on F-106 fighters at Air National Guard.

You are a very good Tech, top 10% in field, and you should be very proud of it at your young age. The one thing really going for you is you aren't afraid of the jobs you don't know. Many Techs turn work away only doing light work. Also your resources I never had most of my time with internet and info services. I had to buy books and go to dealerships to read their books.

3/4th of mechanics I meet don't know basic batteries & charging systems, and battery chargers work. It has to do with the electronics more then the mechanical end of it. You can look at it like water flow filling a tank. In electronics "The Volts pushes the Amps, and the Resistance gets in the way" just like water, "The {say a Pump} Pressure Pushes the Water, and the Pipe Size Restriction and tank gets in the way". The auto alternator pushes a max of 13.8 volts ate what ever amps it is rated at when full charging at 2000 RPMS. Your shop battery charger pushes about 19 volts top voltage when charging starts. If a battery is damaged it takes more force to push the electrons back in, because there is more resistance between the plates in a battery, because of A) Low water in battery causing Sulfated plates where part of plates are exposed to air and non-functional, can't be fixed. B) Physical damage to plates broken connection, open or shorted together plates. C) Feathering or arcing of the battery plates, a damage caused by a higher level of amperage drawn from battery than it was rated for its usage. causing shorts or open connections in battery.

Standard tests used by most people was a "Acid Gravity Test", a good test but messy and any cells down on water had to fill and charge first. Than came a "Amperage Load Test" fair test, but to use right battery needed to be charged, with out that it only told you battery was charged or not. I think it was a show & tell for customer benefit to sell batteries. Using it right took time that could be used else were and also gave false positives if not done right. Costly to charging dead batteries and you get come backs on the first cold day when battery fails customers not happy too.

And the proper quick test, that's simple. Just a charge test, you don't charge up battery before testing. You hook up shop charger, hook up volt meter to battery, and charge rate up to 40 amps NO more. Charge TWO minutes and check voltage. A good battery non-sealed should be 15.5 volts charging or less, and a maintenance free sealed shut nonrefillable should be 16.5 volts charging or less. This tests the internal batter resistance when charging. It is a fool prof test, using less time to do too.

NOTE: In my opinion all sealed lead acid car type batteries where you can't add water to batteries are junk trash like Delco's maintenance free batteries. Buy anything else and you will be better off for it!

  48. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mike Joyce says:

Did you ever hear the proper way to hook up jump starter or jumper cables is the (+) cable is the first one on and the last one off. Keeps the hook up from sparking

Why all the plastic covers on these engines?
