I have never understood why shops rip diesel owners off. The labor cost is no different. I changed the oil in my in my ram 12quarts of premium oil and a premium filter for around 55 dollars 6/2/22. I don’t feel like materials cost justifies the triple cost of an oil change but places around my area are charging the same as you . The fleet guard filters which I use do recommend you prefill the filter which I do. Most of the oil change places I talk to do not prefill as a matter of time. I personally don’t feel your reasoning for not prefilling maybe isn’t valid because in winter a cold engine will pump unfiltered oil through the engine until the oil reaches operating temp anyway. But just like armpits everyone has their opinion. Thanks for the vid and keep up the good work.
not going to lie… £1.50 per litre is still kinda…. acceptable… like… that's what regular motorway services used to be before everything went up
The spinning ratchet effect is angular momentum. When on the armature of the electric motor of the ratchet is spinning. When you let go of the whole tool (including the tiger) the electric brake engages and this transfers the angular momentum of the armature to the stator so the tool spins -until you catch it and the rest of the momentum is transferred to your hand. But there isn't enough force to spin Ray.
“It rubs the oil on the filter” Haha, nice one Buffalo Bill. 😆
U only did half of a diesel service u forgot the fuel filter n air filter not a very good mechanic
You mean it’s not the LIO ENIGNE cap?
Poke a hole with a screwdriver in the oil filter and let it drain, less likely to drop and splash oil on yourself.
So you're supposed to fill the new oil filter with new oil due to it being so big, you don't want the engine to fill that up on it's own, plus it helps the oil circulation more… If I'm wrong please let me know bc that's what I was told
You have been draining oil incorrectly all your life LOL. Drain the sump, or pan as you chaps across the water say, then crank the engine for 5 to 10 seconds and the oil pump will empty the oil out of the filter into the sump. That way you stay clean. You will see the oil from the sump plug start to drain again. Happy days! Click
Are you working as a bartender at night and practicing your long pours by day?
My vehicle requires rotella t6. If you know anything about current supply, it's about 70 dollars for 5 quarts currently if you can find it.
3 quid a gallon…….its 10 here in uk you lot dont know how lucky you are
I guess when you put your mouth on a Ford you stay cleaner…?
Trick for those large filters…punch a hole in the bottom to drain prior to removing…former ford tech
Perhaps this has been said in other comments, but if not, before pulling the oil filter, poke a hole in the bottom of it with a tool of choice and drain the oil out. No mess!!
My 95 7.3 takes 16 qts of oil for an oil/filter change, may be part of the reason it's got 500k on the original motor
7.3 takes 15 quarts and a 30.00 filter,jus sayin
I had the all mighty 6.0 and the head gasket could not contain its power!!
😂 Got me‼️
They put neversieze in diesel oil, that's way it gets everywhere
I've cold started a freaking steam engine when it was 10 degrees kelvin
So, if the oil filler cap must face forward to be correct, then where do I put my filler cap when it has no writing on it?
Your snap on wrench is nice, is it worth 4 times the price of Milwaukee?
drain plug 1 ray 0
I have a dumb question, why don't you take a hammer and nail and put a hole in the bottom of the oil filter and let it drain out?
$100 for all that?
Definitely a good price
15 quarts of Rottela t-5 and a filter was almost $100 on my old 7.3.
Worst part of changing the oil was NOT spilling the Hot slippery 5lb oil filter
That's LOW miles for a diesel that old!
If people don't like the prices they should do it themselves. I would like to do it myself but no space here since I don't like spending even a dollar more if I don't have to.
I love the subtle south park references! crack me up everytime! "hot hot hot hot hot hot"
Great Video
Why not replace with a motorcraft oil filter?
Some people should try doing it themselves, buying the supplies, and getting rid of the waste properly so they can understand. Maybe drive a 4 banger.
Thats around £90 in uk lmao thats cheap oil around £30, filter £10 plus plug seal
I found a better way get a punch an pop a hole in the filter to drain the oil without a mess
It's 50 dollar for an oil change and tire rotation on a gas motor where we are. That's only up to 6 quarts.
My mustang holds 10 quarts of oil and I pay over a hundred bucks for a synthetic oil change. 130 dollars for an oil change on a diesel is actually cheap. Go to a ford house and they will charge you almost three hundred dollars to change the oil on a diesel, if it bothers them that much then don’t own a diesel. Diesels are expensive to fix and maintain
Auto – tick tick tick tick
Mechanic – tears vehicle apart down to frame
(Turns out to be a marble in the ashtray) 😆
Yeah, fun vid!
Fun fact about the oil filter wrench hes right i did this to my oil filter and it caused a leak so hand clicks only unless using the strap kind then ur ok
Get bent Ray! Would live in Canada any day Instead of the states!
think it was bad then try the price today it is May 18, 2022 – you can add about $20 to the first price of $130 – I get it I have 3 diesels in my "fleet" of emergency response (FEMA division known as C.E.R.T. or Community Emergency Response Team we do more than the fire departments we are usually the search and rescue team and always the last one out so Fire and PD can move on to the next emergency) All the same even though I run RAM 3500's that oil (and we run synthetic due to the amount of time our equipment has to idle) A oil change these days is around $150 to $!60 depending if I do it or it is sent in, and you are right the cost is in the OIL.
And to answer your question of why it cost so much? Because they can charge what they want (think back 35 years to oil company deregulation to receive your answer. I grew up in the age of $00.19 cent gas wars in the 60's and yes premium was expensive then about 37 cents a gallon
to all the metric friends. 12 quarts is around 11,3L damn.
you turned the OIL cap and now I can't find my 710 cap… and the 6.9 NA and the 7.3 power stroke are two of the best until the 6.7 by FORD…6.4 & 6.0 are junk
My local dealer used to have a deal when you bought a new vehicle they provided "lifetime" free oil changes. I got that deal on a couple of vehicles. When I bought my 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins, I did not expect to get that deal, but surprise they provided it and even documented it. Even at that time a full oil change with filter and 3 gallons of diesel oil was an easy $50 to $60. I put 60K miles on the truck before I sold it to a friend. I got 9 totally free oil changes on a diesel PU. Of course if I had anything else done, I had to pay for that.
Pro tip for not getting it all over you with the big diesel filters.
Get a large nail and a hammer
Punch a small hole in the bottom to drain the filter
Remove filter without it going everywhere
Ta da!!
Yup you got me 😂 love your videos!

Nearly a 100% increase in gas prices in Australia
At jiffy lube we use the same oil buckets minus that neat tube
Might come try out Napa
At jiffy lube that would've costed like 120-160
i've been charged 100 bucks for 3-5 quarts of oil and a filter change. I prefer those filters with the nut welded on the end, saves much grief.
I paid $180 for oil & filter change and fuel filter change and I supplied the fuel filter For my 6.0
