Can I follow same procedure in Audi Q7 2009?
Ray, aren't Audi and VW the same company these days which is likely why they both use that engine configuration?
I bet the timing chain would be a nightmare to change.
reeee vacuum hose under alternator
You don't actually own an Audi if your coil connectors aren't all broken
They could've made a replaceable sensor 😐
Ray, I really appreciate these videos – they always show me which engines and vehicles to avoid for the best shape of my maintenance budget.
Short version: All direct injection engines designed in Germany with exhaust gas recirculation.
I would never buy a diesel anyway.
Why the American buy german cars? I can't understand this people.
As along time VW owner, I can say that the germans need to figure out vacuum and PCV systems.
OK, Water cooled Altnader, Never heard or seen that eva in me life, damn Germans LMMFAO,, make an alternator even more complicated and longer to replace, it better not be on the same coolant as the engine/ heater core and rad…. WOW nic job Germans
Want you be glad when they switch over to electric motors ? And get rid of the add on !
5-6 hours of work, $100's in repairs, all for something that could be fixed by a dot of tape or plastic sealer
Probably takes 5-6 for the inexperienced, as Ray himself said he had 3+hrs of footage to scrub through. So pretty close to the 5hr mark.
I know my suggestion is backyard mechanic method but wouldn't it be cheaper and faster if you use something similar to dap putty and black tape to fix the leak inexpensively?
They actually call it a VR6 in Germany. It's basically an inline six with slightly turned "cylinder banks" allowing for some vertical cylinder overlap and thus a more compact design length-wise. It was first introduced by Volkswagen as a 2.7 litre in the Mk III Golf to be able to offer a six cylinder engine in a compact hatch. They then made 2.9s, 3.2s and ultimately the 3.6.
5-6 hour job, yet you were all done in less than 39 minutes, 46 seconds… I'm impressed 😉
The last bolt for the intake is hidden behind left tail light😁
Beautiful german engineering!!
I've had Torx bits act as reamers on fasteners, it really can ruin a day.
3 min repair a screw in the hole and a litle Hylomar or somthing and finish 😀
Fore sure I don't want to work on such a mess…..The engineers that make
such systems must be required to repair them B4 production……Something
they are not taught in school..
Say what you like about Audi and the complexity and cost, but If you look under that car all parts and bolts are galvanized dipped. no rusty bolts or crap to deal with on Audi. Also its an Audi, Make sure you look at any procedure for work, even a tail-light and it will save you frustration.
Horrible design of hoses, etc. Good job Ray.
its an oddy
typical audi nightmare..
Electric cars are looking more sensible with every Rainman video!
However decided cars need all the pipes, sensors, wiring?????????????????
Me and a few of my buddy’s work at a shop and depending on who talks to the customer gets the job. One day a newer bmw pulled up to the shop for something. I think it was a down stream o2 or something with one of the o2s. All of us stopped everything we were doing and took off into the back so the new guy who was cocky and acted like he knew everything got stuck with the job. Was a funny site to watch him struggle for 3 hours on a 45 minute job😂 it’s not that we couldn’t do the job but we just really didn’t want to do it and let the new guy have it😂
Those in line fives, always sound like a barrel of bolts! I've owned a few!
and that's exactly why i hate european cars and i'm lucky that i bought old us car, where most of work makes sense and is straight forward and you don't have to remove half of the car to do basic and easy job
Those pliers are great. I work on mercedes cars and they make my life so much easier
Videos like this make me thankful that I have never even considered buying Teutonic trash from Mercedes, BMW, VW et al.
Looks like crack on intake manifold by dipstick upper bracket.
"VW does this as wel"… hate to be the one, but ehhh… no shit Sherlock! It's a VAG engine… Volkswagen and Audi use the same engines.
Liquid cooled alternator sounds expensive 😩
Are current Audis the most complicated cars to work on ?
Wait were those slots on a german car? I thought they were suppose to be the pinnacle of precision engineering…. slots don't sound very precise to me 😁
This is a repair that most. mechanics would rather stand on their heads for the rest of the day. good job.
Audi engineers…making automobiles with materials that notoriously snap/break with regularity while worked on by a knowledgeable mechanic is flat-out inexcusable. …and Audi owners wonder why repairs are so expensive? And the insulting prices applied to parts? FOUR WORDS …"But a reliable Toyota."
I think my favorite words you say are, "More pry bar." Yep… definitely!
What an amazing job, great work, great video and entertaining!!!!! doo-dooo lololololo
Audi nowadays … Vorsprung durch Plastik … desgned to fucking fail so they can overchage you on original VAG parts!
Side rant: that's not a V6, it's more of I6, L6 or W6 (as you said). I just don't like manufacturers like Volkswagen and Audi thinking they can redefine terminology like V6 to mean something it isn't.
A V design means you have either intake or exhaust coming in or out the V (hence the term!) and your exhaust or intake coming out or in either side cylinder head banks. V means you have two cylinder heads.
Silly VW nonsense.
Great upload Ray. I think engineers should have to work a repair shop for one year before they can design car engines.
And yessir…. You can work on my car any day. Keep ‘em comin.👍
German engineering, coolant hose gets connected to the alternator.🤣😂. Don’t forget to check the transmission brake fluid condensing valve. Thank you Ray for sharing always a 👍
I love how you never miss the doodidoos when that phone rings. You must have trained yourself for a long time to catch that one LOL
I would have glued the small hole closed and called it good 😂
Sad today.
My snapon 14.4v 3/8 battery ratchet head snapped off…no pun intended…lol
There is a similar system in place on the EA888 4 cylinder motors that tends to fail identically but it is just a replacement part attached to the valve cover. Speaking from experience it can cause a plethora of symptoms and symptom codes.
Noticed that one of the three fasteners on the belt tightener was not clicked.
