Watching the Snap On ratchets Ray uses. I think the red 1/4" is used for 10mm bolts and the green 3/8" for everything else.

I think 2015 included the years those 4 cylinders had bad piston ring seals. Used oil heavily.
Ray as an astronaut. Houston we have a problem. The telemetry computer is showing a P00p10 code. It appears some quadripeds have stowed away in the engine bay. So yeah – we're gonna need you to do a spacewalk to clean off any rat poop and clear the codes.
Ray — the intake cam sensing valve switch had some oil running out of it when you pulled it out of the engine, that may be the oil that you saw on top of the engine.
My daughters car did the same thing.

I had a Saturn that had with a p0365, p0096, p0017 and one more code that I don't remember. Replaced the cam sensor to fix the problem. I work at t&g motorsports in Missouri.

A related problem on these engines is the timing chain/tensioner/guide/guide bolt. The tensioner gets weak and creates slack in the chain. Chain slop rubs against the chain guide bolt on top at the front. The damaged bolt is stripped out of it's aluminum threaded hole and falls down into the oil pan. This throws the cam and crank sensors out of sync and sets a timing related code. You will usually know you have this problem when you see shiny bits of metal when you do your oil change or on the solenoid screen like the ones in this video. You can see the loose chain and damaged or missing bolt when you pull the valve cover off. When you do the timing chain job to replace all of these damaged parts, Dorman makes a special bolt to replace the damaged one. It threads into the access plug hole on the outer cover instead of the stripped hole on the inside. It still extends into the original hole for strength. The part number is 917-954. BTW I left the stripped out bolt in the oil pan. I figured what's it going to hurt down there. The option on my car would have been to remove the engine to get the oil pan off because of a cross member.
I had the same thing happen with the 2.4 in my fiancé's Pontiac G6. I bought two new Chinesium actuators off of Amazon for $18. Engine ran great for three years after that until we got rid of it.

Okay I'll play I have to agree with you because trailblazers and envoys had that same little issue with the cam position sensor and I'm assuming that it would carry over to the equinox because engineers are lazy at heart and they use the same Parts over and over even the parts with known issues like with the cam position sensor is very sensitive to any sludge or carbon buildup that floats around in the oil it clogs that screen and bad things happen

Here I am again, Ray. Just wanted to let you know in GM world we actually have a simpler component test you can do on those Solenoids. They're very easy to Ohm, and have a specification range of 8-13 ohms across both pins. Usually they fail high, around 16-24 I've usually found. But of course, these engines and their internal garbage. Broken balancer chains, jumping timing, burning oil, man it just never gets better.

Ray you do good work, but I can't understand why you don't use a nut driver when removing hose clamps when doing so?
why are you using a mini pry bar on a screw? thats wierd
