Had a 07 corolla that had a ad ECM, fortunately it happened about a month after I bought it new and was covered under warranty.
I have about a decade experience in service management and a lifetime experience in auto repair as a family trade. I would ONLY have sold the ECM with the Injector. I would have refused the service if not done in pair with a documented high resistance on that injector. High degree of likelihood customer would be back in a week or two and will be demanding warranty on the ECM. You should have shipped it and recommended the dealer for the repair due to the "complexity involved in replacing Ford ECMs" and the "need for reprogramming" as the reason. Let the dealer eat the warranty if they refuse to replace the faulty injector.
Bad decision by the front desk here and terrible decision by the owner of the vehicle. Should have paid you for your diag time and sent it down the road.

Crazy that you would have to call and repeatedly swap modules to get data transferred from the old module to the new one! And it sounds like that company has issues (don't care syndrome).
The tech needs to be able to reprogram these ECM's themself, this is ridiculous. The lady sounded very rude.
Now I know why it took Ford dealer 3 weeks to replace a dash module after having to send files to Ford to get corrected.

I could never in good conscience leave my vehicle at a mechanic's shop with such a messy interior. I'd at least pick up the trash and put my things away.
It's daft that he wouldn't fix the other issues but some live from paycheck to paycheck so understandable. I was there once too. Hopefully he returns.
I installed a new injector driver unit off of rock auto for my 7.3 and it came flashed and installed with the updates
Having to call these people is ridiculous, i work on freightliner trucks and the diagnostic tool is light years ahead of the auto tools and a HUGE benefit is that all truck ecu parameters are stored on the DTNA servers so if i need to reprogram a certain ecu i just download the latest or current software and the diagnostic software will program that ecu without having to go through all that tech support nonsense
Lol no direct number to the tech helping you 😂. Look just bc the ECU is 17 years old doesn't mean the programming support company's technology needs to be. A kid with a Google voice account could offer better support in 2021.
For $140 shipped, there are eBay sellers who preprogram used known-good modules based on info you send them at purchase. That phone service is surely some shady, scummy type shit. And for the REEs, a junkyard ECU is perfectly good for fixing such a rare thing.
I don't like the idea having a engine cover in the cab.. if the engine decides to go exploded mode it could blow up inside the van
I worked at Napa for 14 years. In the beginning it was early 00s and I couldn't believe the amount of ecms we'd sell for obd1 cars. Even I knew they likely weren't the problem and made sure to tell the shop once u plug it in, its urs. Then as time went on, shops would start calling for ecms for 2000 model year and up. My store was 30 minutes from cardone, so we could literally call them, give the vin, and they would tell us 2 hours. So we'd send a driver down there at 2hrs and by the time all was said and done the shops waited like half a day for the part. That and the price of the newer ecms I think helped curb that fast conclusion even for older cars that the ecm failed. And most of the local shops finally would spend more time diagnosing. Because the once 80-90 dollar ecm were now 2-400 bucks plus 4 hours wait time.
There time is more valuable then yours. Just went through a go around with AT&T. my service representative had a hard time speaking English.
I realize that this is a rather old reply to this video but if you read this fine. Just a suggestion. After removing the ECM Connector I would have used a good "Gold" contact cleaner. All contacts will corrode over time including Gold contacts. The corrosion is sometimes not visible to the naked eye. Assuming you had a high resistance issue with pin 72 for cylinder 7 activation this could have accelerated the fouling of pin 72 contact. I have found that just the simple act of plugging and unplugging the connector several times will perform a wiping action of all of the contacts and will restore proper operation of the ECM module. When you replace a supposed defective module with a new one and that clears the problem it will reinforce the thinking that the old module was defective because the new module has clean contacts and everything is now working when actually the old module was really not defective and just needed the contacts cleaned. I wanted to say that I do enjoy watching your channel. You do good work!

At least you were at your shop when you had the a hole rep, I flew places to work on things and some needed the manufacture to code, just a way to keep people from using things they did not pay for but when you get someone that could not do it and you drove all day or flew in, I luckily liked to go visit local dive restaurants and bars so sometimes getting stuck out of town for a couple days paid was not bad but it cost the company because of untrained staff at the manufactures. Replaced plenty of chips over the years too. Computers are not the best thing since sliced bread.

I think I have seen one video from Eric O where it was the ecm. Every shop that he fixes stuff for seem to change it willy nilly and he always finds it is a wire or sensor.
Damn glad I can do my own module programming and generally do not buy Cardone rebuilt parts. I had an EEC failure on my 1994 Taurus, pop in thedash area, followed by a burning smell and car shut off. Thought I had a bad fule pump control circuit till I noticed it was running the minute the EEC was connected. Well done, capacitor shorted and fried on corner of the board. Junkyard one solved it and was still in there when I traded it in September 2020.
