I watch most of your series and I last twisted a wrench for a living in 1992. I was an 18 wheeler Diesel mech.Much easier to work on, just bigger and heavy.
I haven't found a lot of repair videos on Promasters, and this one is awesome. I love all the details and step by step. Even putting everything back together step by step. I have to do this same exact procedure on mine, so this is VERY helpful! Thank you!

My sister use to wonder why her husband seemed to need every tool he had to repair things. A year after he passed away she decided to replace a broken window lock above the kitchen sink.
1) She got slotted screw driver…didn't fit.
2)She got phillips screwdriver….too big.
3) she got correct screw driver.
4) New window lock had different hole dimensions…more drill/bits…etc.
5) No stain/polyurethane….so needed sand paper/stain/ polyurethane.
Stepped back to admire her accomplishment and realized she just trashed the kitchen….and now understood why her husband need all those tools for much more complex repairs than she had just done. And complemented herself for never bitching at him…..after all he WAS fixing something.

This is called a scraper. This technique is used to make a perfect contact between two flat mating surfaces.
Never fails to amaze me , you pull out half the engine. Wires, pipes , bolts and nuts all over the place. You effect the repair then miraculously put the whole Shabag back together. How the hell you remember where everything goes is beyond me. Fantastic vids on this merc dodge van.

This may seem like a hard removal job, but I once had to change the blower motor on a classic 70s Mercedes. To do the job, you must disassemble and remove the interior of the car. The dash, all components connected to the dash, the cooling system components, all the wiring looms for every device on the dash, and then finally you get access, through a tiny panel, to the blower motor.
That is German engineering.
I find it's not the engineers that cause the failures, it's the accounting department. Engineers want to make something that'll last forever, but that has no fiscal value in the long run.

Your comment on the engineer fail about the number of fasteners in the thermostat housing brings up a sore spot with me. The engineers probably wanted more but the bean counters said no way. I too, also, condemned engineers but later found out that the bean counters were the culprits.
I am certain I will never own one of those. Although I guess most vehicles have engines placed in the most restrictive spaces nowadays. I like what you do and really love your humour and knowledge. Love the videos and hope to see the next one soon.

its a crysler fiat froduct.. no mercedes parts as far as i know.. In europe we dont have the 3.6 liter pentastar engine But 2.0 – 2.2 – 2.3 and 3.0 liter diesels only. also in europe the 2015 onwards models have a different nose.
And I thought working on escalators was difficult but this seems to take the prize
this has got to be one of the MOST expensive water pump repairs on a domestic truck iv'e ever seen, this is Ferarri level labor and expense, for a "Doge" minivan, absolute NIGHTMARE! good on you for doing this excessively hard repair. Amazing dedication, what a nightmare! whole front end, and 90% of the cooling system replaced, hopefully it works well for a long time! Thanks Ray for making this video!

I remember the days when replacing a water pump was simple. The good part is that things like this Dogee keep you in business. I think I’ll go outside and pop the hood on my old Chevy pick up and admire the fact that I don’t need to disassemble anything to see the alternator, the water pump, the fan, etc.
