being a mechanic from the late eighties (not a tech) we used a battery terminal puller which I think I bought from MAC as battery cleaning / mintaince set.
Howโs your snap-on policy with the truck guy? My new truck guy a few months ago says new corporate policy is they donโt warranty out whole sets of wrenches or sockets. They can only warranty 3-4 at a time until set is complete
That battery post was somewhat broken to be moving around like that. Also ALWAY disconnect the negative first, then positive. I learned this from my local battery shop.
Oh no… Ray… YOU DIDN'T DOO-DEE-DOO-DEE-DOO TO THE PHONE RINGING!!
Gonna have to write you a ticket, because you violated Section 22b in the Rainman Ray's Repairs law book. Failure to mimic the phone in a video… Court date is on the ticket. Have a good day sir.
In all seriousness, loving the content on your channel. I love how there's no annoying music, no annoying sponsorships, and no annoyingly scripted voiceover. It's just you working.
Not to be political on your channel, but I think you'd be a great person to get Automotive Right To Repair across to a more broader audience of people… What do you think of Automotive Right To Repair? Ever worked on a Tesla or electric car before?
idk why everyone is on your ass you did a fine job hell the owner if i heard you say correctly in the video even told you they were pressed for time so idk why everyone expected perfection hell you did more on those batteries alone then alot of other mechanics would have ever done so don't let those other people knock your spirit down
Only thing that I would have done differently is route the cables to the inside on top of the batteries and away from the metal battery box. If the batteries shift while driving that first cable may again touch the metal box and arc. And always disconnect the ground side first and re-connect it last.
Post, BIG WIRE then small wire then the nut. Now all the current have to go through the piss poor ring terminal before going to the chassis. Any rust may cause big issues. Also, you should have bent the big inter-battery cables on the inside instead of outside. Would have fixed for good the clearance issue and look better.
Many years ago we got that issue with a Gator, the dealer would do post accessory starter alternator. 3 weeks later the Gator would refuse to start at the far end of the field… I would have to get some wrench and sand paper, and reorganise the wires: post starter alternator accessory. A month later you would start to get a weaker headlight, but it was starting and charging fine. I'm sure John Deere did it on purpose. I have evidence of them not being too nice… The gator was often at the dealer due to the idiots of day shift employes (I was night). They succeded to dent the 1/4" skid plate under it and bent the tie rod!
You're a mechanic and you can't get a terminal connector off. All you needed was I screwdriver to pry open that terminal fastener. Cmon Ray. Let's go Ray my man. Lol
If you rely on your vehicle for your job then surely you would have some nonce to do minor things such as this? Hell even just getting a car I believe everyone should have some basic skill set to keep them on the road, no help at 2am on a country road, just might see your daughter come home.
Ray – I'm dying over here, I'm yelling at the TV "Hey, disconnect the ground cable or your gonna throw sparks then you do it, and say I don't think it would do it because I've got the cable unhooked. Then you put on the screen "I'm having a Durh Duhh Derp Moment". I'm just dying laughing over that! We've all been there brother. Keep up the good work – love the videos !!!
There would be only one reason for using a chisel to remove a battery clamp that would be to remove the whole terminal, You should get a term remover and be kind to those poor terminals. Otherwise I enjoy the vids.
Half way through and while I know this is an older video…not one power tool has made an appearance yet??? And more then mechanics keep used hoard nuts and bolts lol.
Those post adapters are completely unnecessary – the mixed set of dual post batteries most likely don't belong there but all of the vehicle connections are made for threaded studs which weren't even being used on the batteries.
Same day delivery…Same day battery service.
The fact that they COULD "wiggle the cables around to get it started" might just be the problem
it's a positive move to change those electron transmissions cables making it a much more betterer connection

He puts dielectric grease on everything except battery terminals. Anyone know why?
I Love all of the knows it alls and can do it better than you, haters!
Maybe they need to seek employment!
I was cringing watching those lead battery terminals twist and bend.. ๐คญ
But as usual..A1 job..1,000% better than when it came in.

would a bit of copper slip be better on the terminals or Vaseline to prevent corrosion rather than having to struggle like you have
Wifeโs car needs to be. Seen by you please give me your contact info

WAIT! Where is the Rainman Ray's Repairs Legendary Battery Service with NOCO Terminal Cleaner & Protectant???
Once every 100 years, a battery terminal puller is the way to go… $6 – $20
Otherwise, ๐๐ค

NOOOOOO! You connected the wires wrong!!!

that gold ring is a good conductor
Did hou tried hot water to clean? its super effective!
Surely there should be a cover over the 2 batteries and not just open terminals, asking for trouble.
My constructive criticism for the night is instead of bending those thick AF cables switch sides so they loop to the inside of the battery box.
Uhm, where the new lugs even needed given those nice threaded studs on the batteries?
Just like youtube comments, always start with the negative!

But reeeeee…..you should always remove the bed and right rear inside tire before you do the diagnostic on a box truck ๐ฅบ๐คฃ๐คฃ
Owner says they have to wiggle battery wires to get it started. Yet it never occurred to owner to tighten wire connectors?
Is it OK to put a steel nut on a copper thread?
Just once I want to hear you say in a German darlik voice "commencing liberation sequence, now"
I'm surprised its a 12V system, I thought most trucks that size were 24V !

Btw that was just some constructive criticism. Not nagging.
One little thing I see is your wedding band will hurt if you ark off. But with that being said you know what youโre doing.
Diet coke does amazing job cleaning terminals and dirty coveralls. Why not use the bolts that come in the battery verses using those clamps
Geez as a canadian im offended that there was nickleback playing in the backgroud LMFAO!
There would be only one reason for using a chisel to remove a battery clamp that would be to remove the whole terminal,

"Starts without fail" *Proceeds to start it once… Uh huh.. Sure it does. lol
Just a reminder: Any problem can be resolved with explosives.
Your lack of dielectric disturbs me. lol
That one battery post is bad .
Nice video as always, but I'd remove the wedding ring, before stickin my hands to the batteries. Or try the AvE trick and put some tape on it?
Half way through and while I know this is an older video…not one power tool has made an appearance yet??? And more then mechanics keep used hoard nuts and bolts lol.

You didnโt show the vehicle starting
โYa know nothing says professional battery serviceโฆ like a hammer and chisel.โ
Made me laugh enough to make my night. Love your videos!
You came close Ray to breaking that post. No Bueno.
Does a man drive this truck?
Wearing rings while working on a battery is not a good idea
And… You did a shit job cleaning that corroded lug… Come on man.
