Were were out and about on a HOT Florida day when the old Burb left us stranded miles from home. Tow Truck? Not a chance!

At what point do you "re-engineer" the cooling system? I assume those lines are vapor lines to the back of the cylinder heads?
I've just re-plumbed my transmission lines with AN fittings….

I've just used a few drops of engine oil off the dipstick to lube these sort of repairs. I love the bud light though.

I didn't see this when it first came out, but I didn't realize that you should have titled this, devolved to the Red Green Show.
But they never would have wasted beer as lubrication.

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars 44 Hawk says:

Distilled water for cooling systems, not only can it take more heat without boiling, it staves off galvanic effect longer with the differential Metals in the cooling system and engine.
I'd be tempted to plumb that with a 3/8 Hardline and short hose connections between them.
You had an actual t-connection, that would have worked. I would have gotten them at least made in Black. That white plastic I'm surprised lasted anytime at all that's why it's a vacuum connector, not a coolant connector.

I value function over form every day of the week. Excellent recovery from a bad situation. And, I agree with others, only good use for Bud Light.

They always said that if you checked out a mechanicโ€™s vehicle it would be the most jury rigged. An electricianโ€™s house would have the biggest rats nest of wiring.

"Reverse Click and Forward Click" comments went out of the window on a personal vehicle 'fix'.
However, Ray keeps Calm and Carries On in a personal crisis with his 292K mileage clunker.
This is not only a great post, it's an inspiration to all.

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Joe Seabert says:

I was in the middle of no where and the nut to the wire on the starter to my APU came off. So I used a a zip tie. It worked and about 6 months later was at the shop getting its oil changed when the mechanic saw it and said what genius did this shit. I told him I forgot I had done it and it worked this long so yeah, proof of concept and thank you for the compliment.

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ken Luther says:

๐Ÿคฃ I can't believe you paid 500 plus for that Snap-On cordless ratchet kit. PS — engine heat kills those rubber hoses.

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Frank Hebert says:

I love when people think buying a mechanics car is a good thing. I'm a mechanic myself an my ride is like this tahoe. I have a little rigging under the hood myself. The last thing I wanna do after work is fix my own car. But I bet with that motor that thing screams.

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Roger Smith says:

Thought I saw a tee in the box, wouldn't that have worked as well as a y fitting?

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars marathonfreak67 says:

I loved everything about this video!

    Cold air intake: Plumbing PVC
Appropriate sized hose clamp: Duct tape mod
Missing Y fitting: Masonry drill bit mod
    Lube: spare Bud Light
Not touching it again for 2 years because it works: Priceless

Now the next time a customer brings you a car with the zip tie mod or the 200 MPH tape mod, think back to this day. . . and remember, you call "this" ingenuity! Well done.
