Owned an 05 Tundra until 2020, the engine, trans, TC and diffs were all tight at 208k. The quality on gen-1 Tundras is just unbelievable. A clean one will sell at a significant premium.
From experience I'd say those shocks have been toast since 80k miles, most OEM shocks don't make it to 100k. I put Bilsteins on all around at 90k and it made a huge difference on stability.
The lower A arms on the front definitely need new bushings at 200k but Toyota only sells the complete arms. (Removing the bushings, and installing after-market ones, requires quite a bit of brute force and fire…) However, doing these bushings and the upper/lower ball joints really improves the ride quality.
Your craftsmanship in spotting all of this quickly is commendable 🙂
My oil filter housing sheared in half doing the paper towel trick lol. It took forever to chisel it out. I replaced it with an aluminum one and it's far superior
I have to love it, you could put these plugs in while in the break room. Talk about an extension ..
Why are Japanese cars made so difficult to service?
What's wrong with hankook tyres 🤣
Hey how do you get rid of cobwebs in my car engine bay all over the place. Drive it every day and how they get into my car bay beets me
I have recently purchased several tools due to watching your videos, some have been rather expensive. On the less expensive side, I did buy that drain plug remover magnetic wiggly thing, never seen one before, pretty cool.
Watching your videos is costing me $$$, but in a good way. Thanks.
A little leaf blower action (or compressor air) afterward is a good way to get rid of remaining standing water…just sayin'
My 2012 scion tc has that type of filter element, there is a drain plug on the center of the plastic you remove to drain the filter with, so you don't get covered in oil taking it off, its just a 3/8" drive squar hole you put a rachette in without any sockets thats also what the small o ring in the filter kits box is for it also has to be replaced. My tc uses 0 w 20 synthetic oil. Ill only buy toyota parts. No aftermarket anything on my toyotas.
Ecpt tires and struts. I got 233k miles out of my frt brake pads that came with the car on my celica 2001. Ive never seen any other brand car do that.
…..It might be one of those 8 quart ones (or the drain plug wasn't reinstalled) lol….Peace from Calgary bro !
Florida the holiday state, for your next holy day come to Florida the holiday state.
What about the small oring in the package ??
Happy Father's Day 💙
President DeSantis and Vice President Rainman 🙌 2024
The vids are great, you seem to enjoy yourself. No parts cannon, no extra unneeded work, nice to see. Did I see a small O ring with the oil filter ?
What you need is a set of sockets with a magnet built in them so you can get those hard to get bolts and screws without dropping them
Shop towel to the rescue 😂😂😂 beautiful
Trans dipstick warning label?
Your “Wobblies” are neat. Have you ever tried a flex shaft drive? I do enjoy your videos, I am glad when I worked on engines you could reach the spark plugs without all the hassle. 🙂
Besides a thorough engine bay cleaning requirement – the vehicle also needs
a wheel alignment and some respectable tyres – such as GOOD YEAR – PIRELLI
or other reputable brand.
Only seven minutes into the video and it appears that the owner has any maintenance
done as a last resort – rather than ongoing preventative maintenance.
I wonder how the owner would feel if Airlines only did aircraft maintenance as a last
resort ?
More concerned over a tyre pressure warning light than whee alignment and a partly
worn tyre. — Tyre pressure is important and equally so is the running gear.
Perhaps their life is only worth seven cents.
If you wash the engine before you start you can keep your hands cleaner. Just goes to show that a high mileage Lexus stays in better shape than a low mileage Chrysler but those TPM's will drive you crazy with the crazy prices to keep them up.
It's those damn engineers. They design cars but never worked on them.
Lmao that filter is super cheap
One thing I have learned from your videos Ray, Flashlight magnets are useless.
I thought Japanese cars were easy to work on…not this one…its a crazy maze…1st day I saw a double woobly at work😆😆
I went out and purchased some brake cleaner just for the heck of it.
"It's either gonna work or it's not" – words of legends
Gravity you sure it's not dark matter or dark energy, science isn't sure anymore
Great stuff. Is that Silicon grease that you put on the ignition plug leads before putting on the plugs
I was in awe when a Cadillac DeVille took one quart per cylinder
Toyota and their cartridge filters. A pox on your house…
0w20… oof.
Id put in 5w30. These super thin oils really exist because they improve engine efficiency.
How the hell is that one Hankook in the rear basically new and the other tire is completely trashed? New tires go on in pairs!
I come here for the brake-cleaner spray 🙂
What did you spray on that battery?
Here's the thing with filling oil – the manufacturer takes into account residiual oil so long as you use their recommended drain method (increasingly sucking it out over draining it)
If you fill 'to your experience' and the engine dies – you have to take responsibility
If you fill to the recommended amount (using the recommended method) – and the engine dies – not your problem at all
Fixing cars is a blame-heavy job – you touched it, you own it – you know this Ray – you have to cover your ass sometimes…
I now take pictures of some cars before I work on em to show marks/damage/missing bits – such is the way
Boy that was a high dollar car wash I hate to see the hot wax and vacuum
Very detailed video. Thanks for recording 👍
God its no wonder why some mechanics say they've done it when they haven't…..!
Opinions are like assholes…. everyone has one.
Very cool, very professional. Next time I am in Florida on my winter get-away, I am gonna request you to service my Toyotas
Why didn't you video the rear-end, transmission, and transfer case fluid exchange
hard to do in the air , but bump that car over and let it idle for 5 seconds……another quart will drain and it will evacuate the oil in the filter…….great video…..
Would you rather work on a '67 Impala 283 / power-glide with an engine you can actually see or a modern car with electronics and an engine you have trouble finding???
"Never leave home without your towel." or words to that effect. Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.
Ray, why chase falling COP bolts? Why not just get a set of magnetic sockets?
I only recently invented this tip and feel foolish for being decades late with it: when unscrewing a screw or small bolt/nut I fear might make a break for it, I put my "pencil" magnetic pickup tool right next to it as I'm undoing it, that way, when it has come loose, it goes to the magnet.
Lang Tools make simple plastic/magnet inserts for normal sockets to make them magnetic, push 'em in, push' em out. Cheaper and take up very little tool chest space, but need more fiddly time than a pro might want to mess with.
Sarcasm is a form of anger, you reaching for irony Raymond,u welcome.
Love your video's ray. I'm headed to Davenport Florida in two weeks for vacation would love to take my van to your shop and have you make a video on it for anything that's needed.
Wobbly U joints, I hate them. If you put An O ring one them they are as wobbly
Kenda Hangook what other kinds of tires does it have
Good evening good sir … or aka Florida Man-Texas person here… The folks been working on my Sand and Gravel trucks "Besides what my guys destroy on a regular basis🥵" I feel through your knowledge and care of other people's vehicles is supreme in your manner- I hate to suggest as there is probably a reason why this might not work for you but …. try taking any punch, pin or nail set or mini pry bar and a tappidy tap (AVE….😇)(gotta have a drain there anyway)…. one hole in top for relief and on in bottom for drain on the filter… before even releasing the drain plug. Normally do my own services, but a quart plus oil filter can be very mess and hot lol. First time saw this , I Polacked my self in the forehead- you are a brilliant automotive technician, and don't feel I should be even suggesting this because you have rhymes and reasons for your procedures. Love the channel and your expert "mechanicship"if that's even a word💪 lol
this is why i dislike V engines
Nice video, but still those lower arm struts i would have told the customer to replace, better handling and reducing tire wear and tear, but of course the 200k mileage plays another role to the customer if he wants to keep another 5 years or not, but customer has the last say.
the customer said no to tpms sensor what do yall sell ??? autel for the win customers cost 45.00 each thats why i use them 315 or 416 cheap mx sensor so the customer said no let the light blink???
i know you excessively hosed that engine down to drive the " REEEEE… you ruined the engine and electrical system " guys bonkers… lol
Great job Ray, keep the videos coming. Happy Father’s Day to you also.
Caught the Cheech and Chong " It's blue so you know it's good" reference
I'd rather do a 100 Subaru's…
Yah, you got me. No oil. Haha.
Ray check the air pressure in the spare tire, the sensor everyone forgets
Lol keep your blue water down south. My used pickup apparently spent time down south. When I started driving it in January that didn’t work out well for me.. ❄️☃️
PITA oil filters…, WHY?
"Everyone has a different experience." Yup — reminds me of Atticus Finch in "To Kill a Mockingbird":
"You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view. Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it."
Not often you forget something. But you forgot to put the radiator cover back on. You know the one you had to take off to get to the radiator cap.
P.S. next time you “ talk “ to Eric “O” maybe mention it to him! He reminds me of me so much ! Too much printing for me,just had new hip yesterday,,, getting wore out & old ! Never saw him do it either,,I was playing around one slow day & stumbled over “ basic” plate action,, & hey,,, why not clean ? Wide open ! . LOL
those sensors is a robbery, i go to Les Schawb and pay 14.99 each.
Ray,,,,sooooo many comments,,, if you get to read this! I wouldn’t post this so,,,, for your trolls who “ are “ getting to you ! Whenever you have throttle plate covers off,,, &. you want to clean throttle plates on a “ plastic drivin “ wire “( not cable) plate system,, if you have your monitor already hooked up,,,go to special functions, KOEO , TPS or throttle control,,,,go WOT, or 100%, they will see the plates opened with no human hand “forced” open,, do,do plates! OR ,no monitor connected,,,get your adjustable hood “holder” put on pedal, install “ holder” rough adjust, move seat “forward” to other end of holder for same effect! do,do! HUBBA BUBBA ! Done ! Have a great day ! Really get them goin !
If you don't show yourself putting the rim and tyre back on and move to driving the car you driving a different car
$600 bucks for 5 TMS sensors ???? You don't need Denso ones. I have generic ones in my Toyota that I bought for $20 each. As long as the transmission frequency is the same, they'll work ok if they're programed.
I always wondered how 0 weight even lubs anything when its so thin…
I love this guy's videos! I'd GLADLY bring my vehicle to him for repair! He has such a good following he should open his own shop! I'd bring my vehicle there!!!
you can tell this owner cares for his car. No leaks, no nothing! Approved all the recommended services besides tmps sensors
Toyota should option the 4.6l in the new body style tundra as an alternative to the 3.5L(3.4L) TT V6… Maybe only in SR5 trim trucks and or 2wd… Just a thought
Great engine
omg where's the gag
Dobble wobbly! Madness! Madness I say! 😄👍
Plugs look good for 100k lol
Methinkest thou doest enjoy huffing brake cleaner🙃🌵
Where did the oil come from in the first place? The Defense rests.
Ooooo yah, I heard it through the brake lines. Not much longer will you be mine. Mmmm I heard it through the brake lines. And I'm just about to lose my mind. Honey, honey yah..!
good as always ray
a 2 foot wobbly-bit socket extension for that back left spark plug…. flashlight gravity!! streamlight lifetime warranty, snap-on dealer: "would you like to buy some extra tools today?" yes! also my flashlight broke! -warranty accepted! why? you just bought some new tools! again, a great sales technique, buying more tools will usually help you obtain warranteed tools better… why? well thats a sales secret! (check out rays other vids… you will find them if you look hard enough!) and no I am a random schmo that enjoys rays videos. lol nice work Ray! oh and uh … break clean is a neccessary evil, better than oil in the rainwater! and for those new to rays videos, he always does a secondary inspection to check to make sure all the hoses and connectors are connected before closing that bonnet up…an honest mechanic? yeah Ray is as good as it gets.
No wander those spark plugs been there that long… Seems like a right pain in the but, comparing to some cars.
@Rainman Ray's Repair: do you now the magnetic end comes of to reveal a 1/4 inch socket drive?
this dude always has a gravity cameo
What did he get as a souvenir from his cruise?🤔
Yet another example of the fact that engine designers don't care about routine maintenance!
Well you definitely made the engine wet. Nice and shiny I doubt because just water won't really affect the oily grease…
Did you notice the fixing on the plastic trim coming out and falling into the engine bay?
As a DIY'er, I've used the paper towel trick many times. And I didn't even see it on the interwebs first. Necessity is the mother of invention.
Hint. The clips for the cover near the start of the video. The easiest way to get them out it to push the center down, then you can just lift them out and push the bottom of the clip against the panel to pop them back up one notch ready to re-insert. No need to remove the center.
I have nothing for you but respect and love.
You are a great mentor and so easy to learn from.
Thank you.
My Subaru came up to 100k and I had my local trusted shop change plugs, coils, CVT fluid and differential lubes. Timing and water pump was done at 95k. Radiator was replaced because of a leak. I’m ready for another 200k
What happened to the bald tire? If the spare was full size it could be traded for the rear left
