Motor Repair
Nice diuagnosis and explanation. well done.shame on previous tech that did not spend more time diagnosis
Okay more proof on top of many that the Ford 5.4 is a useless engine that's all I'm going to say.m
awesome helping read diag sheet # and process
We all learned an important lesson today: Those clip-style multimeter probes are not great at carrying lots of current.
The greatest start to a video ever🤣with added doodlly doo!
Your the man Ray
An excellent how to video on diagnosing an electrical short…I don't think Ford could have made getting to that stinking motor any more difficult…geez…
A great video Ray and a good explanation of the wiring diagrams and how they are laid out. Another great video…just sucks it was so invasive for a diagnosis.
3 valve engine 💩💩for changing plugs..
good diagnostics Ray, as an Electronics Tech who has had to follow up other techs " who threw up their hands", I follow the schematics and isolate, as you did
I think this is your best troubleshooting walk through to date This is why you're awesome!
Was that Bryson Gray in the background?
Love watching your troubleshooting thinking
Wow! That was really interesting. Great job diagnosing the problem Ray. Of course it had to be the most difficult component on the circuit to get to.
Wow just wow 👍
Good work, my friend. I'd tend to say that you were lucky. Or, perhaps, I'm just unlucky. A lot of times for me, what happens in these cases, right where you verified the last unit that was shorted, in my case, it would not be shorted. I would be forced into much deeper troubleshooting. Late night, 12hr a day work and a month later and my boss breathing down my neck and still no culprit. Ok, in my case, it's not automotive trouble shooting, but electronic PC board level troubleshooting. You might say to just throw away that one and buy another one. It may come to that in some cases, but these boards can be very expensive.
I bet your co-worker got to that component too and was like, " Screw this, I'm not gonna take this thing apart for a diag!
Raaaaaaay, can you find this short for me?"
🤣
Dude, you are a Mechanics Mechanic! You don't stop until you Completely diagnose an issue. Good job man!
Hey boss what's up with the audio on this video? It is so quiet for allot of the video
This may be a little too much cause it’ll be time consuming, but think it’ll be kinda cool to have a quick description of what something does. Like have the description and if people dont know what you are talking about(like me) can pause it and read it then carry on with video
Well done.
how a fire starter NI ICE brake out the mushy
I know that the truck is supposed to have a 5.4 GAS engine. But everytime there was a shot of the engine running, I SWEAR it sounded like a PowerStroke Diesel !!! Did they get an engine swap ??? Or is it just a REALLY noisy 5.4 ??
You the man
I use a small bungee cord to hold the belt
I like the subtle clues that the owner is a blue collar guy. Did i guess right?
PIA But you did this smooth and methodically. Great work Ray.
Seemed like an awful lot of components to be on one fuse/circuit.
Take the crack away from the Ford engineers. That is the biggest turd I've ever seen.
Would have left the difficult ones to last or maybe "interrupted" it's path!
I hate when the doobly doo fuse blows
I really wish he'd record putting the whole thing back together again as a bonus video!
You tried and tried to make the problem child be something simple and easy, and all the Ferd had to do was cooperate. But nooooo…
Fire 🔥 🔥 ray was cursing 🤬 lol fun shi#
Shapes, colors and now fire 😂
One of the coolest diagnosis I've seen. I'm good at repairing shorts in a wiring but i wouldn't have been able to find that one
I never thought watching diagnostics could be so interesting, love that video and the explanation, it actually made me understand how to chase wiring diagrams Love it, keep ‘em coming ray!!!!
The reason disconnecting the AC clutch had no effect and why it wasn't running is because fuse 32 powers the control side of the relay (pin 86) not the load side. If the clutch was shorted it would have blown a different fuse.
OMG that was funny, sorry for your leads burning..
As Eric O would say, "There's you problem lady"!
This is a good example of a thorough trouble shooting.
Do them a favor and have them get relay to fix the fuel pump relay when it goes. Have them reseal the front winshield and cowl area for passenger side water intrusion. And go ahead and replace all splices at drivers sill plate.
This was a great diag video. Great job!
Did you unhook the parts test then reconnect them?
amazing diagnostic skills and huge SHAME ON YOU Ford for designing such a non-user friendly vehicle
I think its pretty sad another tech dumped that on you. Im not sure about your store but we dont drop jobs on others if we have trouble. I spent 3 days on a nightmare titan false immobilizer lockout due to some electrical fuckery but it never went to someone else lol
Why not simply connect multimeter to a disconnected plug and see if it reads low resistance like below 20 ohms i'd suspect ?
No need to jump back and forth.
To make it even easier, hook up the multimeter to constantly beep mode and go pull every plug you see. One that stops the beeping is it
How are all these components on the same 15 amp fuse?
The compressor alone should get a 10 amp fuse, and even if that's good enough to power everything, it shouldn't be this way, because then when you get one short\open, you lose lots of functionality instead of just one component.
Ray: Either I won something from you or you've been spoofed/hacked! See the reply to my message in my separate post below. In either case, I don't use telegram or see a tab in youtube to message you. I've e-mailed you on your business address. My e-mail there is similar to my screen name with a bell system domain. Thanks! Please let us all know (with your regular screen name) if this is legit. Thanks!!
Now you know why they called for you…Good job my man
I am…. SO glad I no longer own a 5.4 expedition
have you checked out danner scanner?
Good job,,,,but thats just plain hatefull to pull that intake,,😍
Who do you call rainman to the rescue see ray your the ace mechanic there. your the man your the one no matter how long it takes or how dirty you get you find and fix the problem your the master mechanic I hope you let the other mechanic know what was bad that you fixed you had to do alot of work but in the end you win your a winner man 👍👏🇺🇸
I’m glad you know what you’re doing…you lost me at page 2…🤪🤪
Great job troubleshooting, I enjoyed watching you following the schematics
Nice process of elimination, well done sir.
It’s a good thing I’m not a mechanic; I think there would be a lot of MFers! yelled and a sledgehammer in there.
Whoever hired you Ray they better treat you right because to find tech’s like you is like winning the lottery..👍👍👏👏
That’s the most diagnosis I’ve ever seen for a doodley doo fuse!!!
Another win for the design Engineer Vs The mechanic (Design Engineer wins due to the stupidity placement factor) LOL.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
That “Doodliy doodily do” is sooooo played.
Ray you should have known that there would be connectors/components that would be almost impossible to reach ,It'a Fix Or Repair Daily LOL
I'm gonna bring my ST to you to find out why my brakes are making a clicking noise 😅
Doing his best @SouthMainAuto impression
Power Prode is an awesome tool for electrical problems.
Now that took some serious effort! Most mechanics would have thrown in the towel! Good job!
I'm thinking that the other guy figured out it was probably the module on the back of the intake, and passed it to you to save himself from pulling that intake, lol.
well.. even if the customer does not want the part replaced.. they are still in for the Intake Gasket Replacement. couple hundred anyways on top of the $100+ Diagnostic fee..
You sir are an absolute beast at troubleshooting!! You're like a pit bull with a piece of meat. Wish more mechanics had your patience and skill level. I'm so tired of seeing far too many mechanics using the "shotgun" method.
Can't complain about a good diagnostic video with some Tom Macdonald playing in the background.
How would you bill that diag? Does a diag that is this involved get covered under the general diag few or would this be a case where it costs more is my thoughts. I get called for diags and i have no clue how to bill it.
Very enlighteniung video as usual ….
The leads needles were the weaker fuse
I think I would just sold the car
Logical deduction… Good job!
If i didn't find your videos i would of never of found my love for mechanics. I absolutely love my job and look forward to learn more and more everyday. Thank you sir for the inspiration!!!
Where do you get detailed wiring descriptions like that?
Impressive. Mad skills and pyrotechnics!
you really love your job bec diags like this is a challenge and getting to the bottom of it really pays off. The experience is so priceless and cust doesnt truly appreciate the effort and knowledge that goes into works like these
Nothing like a little fire to get the heart going.
That’s why I love watching your content Rainman, you never admit defeat 👍👍👍
"It's always the last place you look".
Ford engineers should be drawn and quartered. No idea that anything ever has to be serviced. Epic fail on thier part.
Wow. I was truly impressed.
The process you used was like a who done it of the automotive world! Nice job Ray!
The owner of a shop I worked at had the same Expo. only his was a 4×4. I had to replace that same thing on his. His was not blowing fuses just ran like crap. I did remove the cross over cooling thing. From the looks of it it could have used some new intake gaskets any ways. Better get you a case of brake clean to clean the flapper things. Your right that intake is heavy. Thanks for the videos guy take care.
Reeeee weak doo dee doos today
WATCH OUT GUYS, there is a scam message starting to appear on the channel, I have seen this before on the Russel Brand channel.
Not gonna lie, I would have separated circuit 37 wire from splice 128 to verify that was definitely it before digging into that manifold. Often times shorts can be in the harness somewhere from chaffing or corrosion (not always just a component). Glad luck was on your side with this one.
I hear that Tom Macdonald!
Aziz!!! More light!!!
– Fifth Element
Part 2????????
A lot of patience, and knowledge.
When you were taking the intake off, I was thinking, "Well, if it IS the actuator, then he would have to do all this work anyway." But I was still holding my breath when you were testing it after all that work.
You Sir, are Relentless! Mad Props!
Excellent video! I will be showing that to my colleagues to help them learn about shorts, using a schematic and good troubleshooting techniques
Ray, were you in the US Navy as an Aviation technician?
You sure know your cars all the years of training pays off big time for you plus any work you do take care
Uh its a Ford as that pretty much says it all….
😁
Ugh, that loud music! Someone should get that dude some earphones. There are three people that need to pay full attention to what they’re doing: Dentists, surgeons, and Mechanics.
