Ah yes, the goat finallee. Just what I needed to make my day.
Let us think about it for a minute. Why would a tech buy HF tools? They needed something now. Why waste a drill bit when you can buy a set from HF and not care if they bust. Needed a socket size because yours stripped or after many years split? go to HF and buy a set until a truck comes by. HF basic tools are cheap and many times cheaply made however they still come with lifetime warranties. If you do not like the tools, give them away. Pretty simple. Like Ray there, many techs have tools from different companies. Besides, tools walk off sometimes. Why replace one pieces when you can buy a whole set. HF tools work great for me as someone that does not work with tools that much. Tools really need to fit two criteria, does it work and does it fit your style of work (IE is it comfortable). Just my opinions.
Safety goat. Nice.
The tools do not make a good mechanic. Knowledge does. At the end of the day tools have to be bought by the mechanic and anymore even snap on does not have the same quality as years ago. I am a diesel mechanic and have almost all HF and Husky tools. Only a few items from snap on and those and special tools that not many company’s make.
That will teach em hahaha
Clearly Rainman Ray doesn't run with the big boys.
Real mechanics use Hyper Though tools from Walmart! They're not just tough. They're HYPER TOUGH!
Good one Ray. LOL
James c seems very familiar with harborfteight tools to be able to spot that on a video. Lol I bet James has a few in his aresnal considring he seems so knowledgeable. 🤣
How much space do you get at that shop guy?!?!
Fairness I don't mechanic for a living but my harbor freight stuff works just fine. I even have beaten on lots of my cheap sockets with a 1/2 airhammerr and they've done better than you might expect.
All is gearheads got tools from everywhere. The point is do you know how to use them you do. In fact I got duplicate tools cuz I can't find them half the time. I swear when I work at a car I spent more time looking for the wrenches that I do working on it. Really enjoy your videos
Well good news is if you ever decide for a career change, you could slap a “snap on” decal on the dually and go from shop to shop having people apply for second mortgages to buy your tools 🥲
A driver at work asked me one time if he could barrow a claw hammer while I was in the part locating rabbit hole at my roll away.
I thought to myself, do I really look like a carpenter.
I said no,go ask the boss,I overheard the boss say,do I look like a carpenter 😁
Well you made me feel better about my collection of bulky plastic boxes, and also are making me feel like it's definitely going to get much worse, I have nowhere to store these damn things, they take up an atrocious amount of space, not to mention the occasional embarrassing Jenga moments.
Lots of Strap Ons
Ray You need to come out with your own tool brand. Click-On tools for maximum Clickage!!!
As long as a tool does the job, who gives a crapper what label is on it? I didn't realise tool snobs exist, but they do.
if your arms are growing from your arse, brand name tools wont help you. Just saying
Hey as far as tools go since I cant afford Snap On what would be a better than Harbor Cheap tools? I have some AutoZone stuff, do you think they are ok?
What my mechanic friends say.
Sure, craftsman and husky have a lifetime guarantee but snap on doesn't break. I am not making money when I am returning a broken tool instead of working on the thing I used to break the tool
Sarbor freight
* Dammit Ray, after this video you better lock your shit up and have sharks with fricken laser beams guarding it.
gotta love a real mechanic. someone who can go through his tools for 10 min that are worth more than your car.. not to mention the boxes
Icon sockets and wrenches are Snap-on made at same foundry. just fyi just like Kobalt sockets and Wrenches are made at same foundry as Matco
I was waiting for the prying tool that a while back you used and then said was one of the best things Harbor Freight sells. I think it had a head that could be locked into different angles. A few of my tools are Harbor freight as well, but most are not.
Thanks for all the videos Ray, and greetings from the "Great White North" (Wisconsin in my case). On that note, in one of your "Out of the Shop" videos you had to fix a broken wire on a heater. I think I remember you saying in the video that you and your family were on vacation in Wisconsin, and I hope the rest of the trip was fun.
I've been a mechanic for close to 40 years. My Grandpa was a mechanic also and I have several of his 1940's Snap-on tools, NOBODY gets to borrow them!!!
File under "Offended Professional Mechanic" reads too many clueless comments..
James C. Go to bed your drunk…
Calm down hey bro Ray just calmate miho…. We know who you are, u ain’t got nutan to prove to one ey essay! U know am saying bruh!
Ray, so many tools. Maybe you could invest in some late night infomercial shopping and buy one tool that does everything lol. Cheers for the Tool box tour.
There's gotta be like… $100 worth of Harbor Freight tools there. Nice collection!
Milwaukee and snapon are personalities not tools
"We're not gonna worry about that drawer" …why do I suspect that the drawer with the tools you care the least about is probably going to be the one that actually does have a decent proportion of HF stuff in it 😀
Why do you let yourself get triggered by such a troll….who cares what brand it is….if it works.
Question…are those all your tools? i tought the tools are provided by the garage.
Just a few Harbor Freight tools that's not bad. I bought some and regreted it some broke sooner than they should have so I got a better brand tool.
Yeah idk people. Talking down on someone who uses off brand literally have nothing going on in life 😂 😂
Me thinks James C is feeling a little silly right about now! lol……..ugh, tool envy! 🙂
I worry about Harbor Freight Power Tools than anything else. Their hand tools are a bargain and are rather decent for the money.
Icon tools are actually really good. Haters gonna hate. But it’s the truth…
Tools are tools. It gets the job done it's a good tool.
I love it when arm chair experts get pointed out.
Can't do it all the time or you'd never have any other content, but now and then it's nice to watch a good evisceration.
You have inspired me to go through my tool collection and get rid of things I have too many of. Among many other multiples, I found sixteen #2 Phillips screwdrivers, four of which were stripped to uselessness, and six others that had less than desirable handles. So I'm left with SIX of them I just can't live without. The neighbors have been invited to sift through the box and take whatever they want. Time to clean it up and get organized!
Had a 2005 Ford 6.0 Diesel decide oil needed to be in the coolant for that extra cooling, I had already replaced the Oil cooler and EGR cooler several months back so this time I decided to pull the heads and stud it. Went to HF and bought every tool I needed to rebuild the upper half of the 6.0 in my driveway. Not a single problem with any of the tools, they worked very well and cost a fraction of the big brands. Not being a mechanic as a trade but more of hobby so HF tools are just fine. Stay away from anything that uses Electrons, those items tend to fizzle out.
P.S My F350 is running strong, nice and Shinny.
hay ray I think you made your point
All of those tools and no metric adjustable wrenches?
If it makes my job easier I don't care about what the brand Ray and don't let the haters get to you
Finally found out what the magnetic lights you use are, need to go order a couple.
So much H/F junk lmao. Come on Ray, lift your game!
HF tools are "good" for the home gamer (like myself) that has a handful of vehicles and some lawn equipment to maintain. For someone that makes a living working on vehicles, I think Ray has a good, quality assortment of tools.
I disappointed you did not showcase the Harbor Freight tie rod end separator.
I specifically went and bought one of those scary SOB's because of you and yours. It's every bit as terrifying as you say it is to use, but the damn thing works.
Tool brands don’t make the mechanic use of them does in my opinion . I find snap,on overpriced
i have a shit ton of snap on tools but what i like to tell the new kid starting out is to buy the cheaper sockets and stuff. i swear i lose a socket more than break one. and as we all know losing a 20-40 dollar socket fucking sucks, BIG TIME. so if youre starting out buy cheap and upgrade later if you need to!
Next, he will say you only have $200 worth of tools since he's obviously very perceptive 😏
the toolbox tour weve been all waiting for!!
Thinking about some of the prices on those tools made me sick
I know several dealerships that will not hire you unless you have either SnapOn, Mac, Matco, or Corwell tools. They say A mechanic who buys quality tools normally does not half-ass work. If they spent the money for the best tools they know he will do quality work to pay the high price of good tools.
i hate Harbor Freight generic tools. I have a set on lcon long ratcheting wrenches they are definitely the nicest thing HF makes. US general tool box is kinda junky but im poor so whateva.
Chinese tools, buy 3,…..2 will break.
Thank you Ray the tour of your tools was awesome. Just goes to show us how many tool's a mechanic needs then there is one you do not have. It is not the tools that. make a superior mechanic.
You forgot your boxes…if one wants something to last and its a high use tool spend the extra as it would most likely be a 1 and done thing. I agree about keeping some cheap stuff around to loan or abuse to no end…if it breaks…cheaper to replace. I remember in auto shop in school all we had was SnapOn …one of the first thing I noticed when using them…any of them…the hand tools are very comfy to use and thats a great first impression. Pittsburg stuff is pretty much throw away but I've heard good things about their Icon line but have yet to use it.
A great video…and like all good mechanics there's a catch-all drawer:-)
As a person with limited means, I now kind of hate Harbor Freight knowing what pre-pandemic prices were and how much prices have risen since ( even on sale). It's no longer a real joy going to Harbor Freight to shop around for the cheap yet competent merchandise.
lot of weird comments about "i dont need snap-on" and the like. totally missing the point that when those expensive tools break or need rebuilding, snapon covers it. they also have things you cant find at other tool stores. depinding on the wrenching you do, youll spend more money in the long run, and waste a whole lot of time, on cheap tools that you use often.
I don't really care for the mindless consumerism. Each brand has their pros and cons. I buy harbor freight mostly because it's cheap and easy to replace and gets the job done. Their tools do work and when they fail, you upgrade. My one complaint is their impact sockets tend to crack and their 12 point sockets are not to be used on 6 point bolts but that's needless to say…
HarborFreight is good much faster to run down to HarborFreight to warranty a tool than waiting a week for Snap off lol
Damn, Ray. Looks like you need a Gator Grip so you can throw away all those other tools! 😂
That's gonna make a great estate sale someday.
Who cares if you got snap on or harbor freight, if it gets the job done that’s all that matters, don’t let the hatters get to you. Also FYI, brake clean is the absolute best wasp killer on the planet, instant death in a can
We all have a bottom drawer we avoid opening. 😉
To many tools maybe? I got tired just looking.
It's always good to familiarize with your tool box and where things are !
So I'm a NOOB. how does a garage work? Those are all your personal tools, so are you the only mechanic that uses that bay or is that just where your tools are? Also, do you charge the hourly rate and then have to pay the garage a monthly rental fee or does the garage pay you a salary?
They just made hell you got over a 100,000 in tool 😂😂
People be mad for no reson 😂😂😂 keep up the great work love the channel, ,,… oo we need the brake cleaner effects and segment
Well that shut James C da phuq up lol.
Hand tools I bought at harbor freight were horrible….. now I haven’t bought any tools there in years. I mostly own snap on, craftsman, Mac and Matco…. I was in the industry for over 40 years and was never a tool whore. I just bought the snap on on stuff I used a bunch. I always bought cheap impact sockets so I could weld and beat on them and use as press adaptors
I really wanted you to press the screaming goat! Great video
Hey Ray, you have more tools that you don’t you use then I have all together. Since you’re not using them, help a brother out.
Box is a mess……lol. But hey, he knows where everything is and gets it done.
In the process of going over many of your videos on my television set I ran across your Q7 Audi purchase inspection and I love your identification of post weight reduction time on the undercarriage LOL LOL LOL. I love it keep it up Ray. Mile marker Mikey Trenton michigan. 👍❤️😁🇺🇸🤞🚀✌️🖖🌭😲😲🍕
In 1995 I bought 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2' socket set that is Pittsburg Forge and used them at work and on the farm. Make really good farm sockets. But, if it is a really tough job that needs quality tools it is Snap On all the way.
I just find it hilarious that Ray's all 'duplicates? Why?!'. I love owning so many tools that I completely forget what I got…
$$$$$$$$$$
That's probably over $10,000 worth of tools man?
Ray Ray Ray. Why would you care what someone said about your tools? Don't stoop to their level man. Do your thing and don't worry about the small stuff.
GREAT collection of tools the organisation give me anxiety but you do you mate
no ray that would be your lack of harbor frieght tool tour. lol
You make your money by the use of your tools….. You should have the best of the best….. I wish I could afford Snap On…. but I dont use them enough…. so I have the old school craftsman which is good quality and has never failed me…. 🙂 Cornwell builds good tools too…. My old school craftsmans have NO resemblance to the "new " craftsman…. which…. is very…… compromising…..
Gotta have high level hammers? I was about to joke that statement untill I realized I have an antique 2.5lb sledge on a 18 inch handle from my grandpa and that hammer does serious work
I have been working on vehicles for about 35 years and it's not about the name on the tool it's the knowledge that is behind it, yeah it's nice to have the nice tools with lifetime warranty but here in Canada we have Canadian Tire and they have a pretty good warranty lol. You will always have the one guy who knows everything telling you that what you are doing is wrong, when you are doing everything right so take it easy and keep up the awesome content!
Harbor freight rocks, Ray switched all his harbor freight tools with Snap on yesterday before he made this video. Everyone knows it's the guy that works right next to him "Peter" that owns all the snap tools on he showed.
Peter is a real mechanic. Ray consults with peter before every repair video so Peter can show Ray how to do it. Thanks Petah for letting Ray use your Snap On's! Ray spends all his money on brake cleaner or he WOULD buy snap on tools! Right Ray? 🤣
I think all tools should read not so costly
I really do hate the people who have never actually used HF talking a whole lot of shit. The tool that gets the job done is the best tool for the job. Maybe its not always HF but damn will they get u pretty far. Especially when ur not buying the bottom of the barrel shit
Listen, if the tool gets the job done it's a good tool and I don't care what brand is has on it.
bro who said you were using only HF? If they watched they would only see snap on in your hand.
I don't know why people put down Harbor freight tools Harbor freight tools are good I have some Harbor freight tools that have been lasted for a long time
ive had a 120pc Craftsman socket set for the past 25 years. and ive worked on 10 family vehicles in that time. Not failed me 1 bit. I got them from Sears back when they had their "Lifetime – if you dont like it for any reason, bring it back and get a new one for free – warranty". I dont see me ever parting with them, the set serves my purposes and i can dang near strip a vehicle to the frame with just that 1 set of sockets. all that is has is a 1/4 drive, and a 3/8's drive.
Can someone explain what's wrong with having harbor freight tools?
I'm not here to diss Snap-On (I have my eyes on one of those digital torque + angle Torque Wrenches Snappy sells) but I do own that HF torque wrench you have haha. It works good, I like the nice click, and in the mid range (Around 60-100) it's pretty darn accurate, last I checked mine it was only off by about 1 ft/lb give or take.
Lots of HF stuff is ok. But when you work with the tools all day, for 10 hours a day (like I do) you want tools that are more than just "ok"
