Dorman is luck of the draw. Most time you draw crap. Sometimes you get lucky.
I wonder if Dorman makes a better intake system to replace the stupid design of the Focus airbox. It takes a tubular filter that never fits unless you slam your foot on it just to make it one eighth shorter.

I was hoping you would have put a straight edge against the bottom of the shifter to see if it was indeed flat and to make sure all the corner were going to seal completely using the gasket it came with. The anaerobic sealant is great and makes up for tiny imperfection in the mating area where the gasket can only do so much.

Dorman doesn't have all day to make something better. They have to make money on their products too. This is so obviously just sloppy and lazy engineering by Dodge that they should be class-actioned. And one of the less good after market product manufacturers knocks it out of the park? Shame…..shaaaame…..shaaaaaaaame….to quote Princess Bride. Great content Mr. O.
Hmmm… there's no small amount of engineering that goes into making that part. Dorman is no doubt one of the few aftermarket companies able to manufacture such a part and do it profitably ($450) while offering a replacement that's better than OEM. Well done, Dorman. Credit where it is due.

Melling is also a great aftermarket parts provider. Their engine oil pumps for Ford 4.6 and 5.3 engines are a vast improvement over Ford OE pumps.
It’s not that bad doing it from the inside.
Had one a couple of years ago that would pop out of 3rd and 4th. Witch there was a tsb for the syncro witch we did, and lasted about 3 months and came back. Did some research and end up putting a B&M shifter in it and ended up fixing it.
As an old-school gasket user, I can attest to years of excellent seals as long as the gasket is reasonably thin and is coated, top and bottom, with bearing grease—never dry and never cork.
Dorman is garbage and I avoid using that brand if possible.
This is my first time hearing something positive about Dorman. This Jeep must have had a hard life. New engine, trans shifter, clutch…….
Somehow my experiences with Dorman were all positive, from a $1800 hybrid battery to control arms, blend door actuators, nuts and bolts.

A Dorman part that WORKS-? Im surprised Eric wasnt elaborating on the subject after all the weak Dorman products hes dealt with. Nice call on nixing the gasket Eric, one comment said they had leaks with the gasket so yeah good call-!! experience and a reliable gut feeling can be very valuable in preventing future headaches.

interesting. i always thought jumping out of gear was caused by a worn trans.
As a trans tech, I will always advocate against anarobic sealant. Granted I'm a little drunk at the time of this posting, but I have found that on envoy front differential's and shit like that, the anarobic sealant will crack and leak eventually. I always use GMS silicone based sealant.

I miss the old Halomar sealer. It was my goto for split crankcases ala Chainsaws. ATVs, motorcycles and snow machines. Good for Transfer cases etc, even some intakes. I was told it was discontinued as it had something nasty in it. The new stuff seems to work ok, but cures slower and seems less tolerant of imperfect surfaces and a little oil (assy lube) creepage. It also is a lot more expensive (no shock there I guess).
Glad to see Dorman maybe getting back in the game, 30 years ago, when they were "Motormite" they had pretty good stuff no one else made.
I just put a Dorman GM corporate 10 bolt cover on my 99 Tahoe, and It was OK but needed some threadseal on the plug. Not a deal breaker for the price.
Maybe they are actually getting that their reputation has gone bad in the last few years.

OMG something from Dorman actually works?
People ask me if OEM parts are the best or if aftermarket parts are the best. The answer is, in my opinion, that it depends on the part. Some aftermarket parts are better, or at least as good for less or equal money, and some are garbage you shouldn't purchase. You have to do your homework for every part to learn what's best. There's no rule.
Dorman actually made a replacement part that fit and worked better than oem.
Mr.O you and Mr Dorman are friends now.

I have had good luck with some of dorman products, for tge most part they usually improve the anomolies
I wish something like this was available for the 1992 Ford Ranger with the Mazda sourced 5Spd manuals as in 2009, the shifter bushings crapped out and reverse, 4th and 5th gear gates were way off to the right and 1st through 3rd weren't all that much better, but I WAS able to shift the thing alright. Got it repaired by going to the dealer for the bushings, was not able to find them anywhere else if I recall and only had enough to get most of the parts, got it done, but 1st and 2nd 2nd were still stiff at times, same with reverse, but worked fine otherwise, until 2012 when I had Midas clean the idle air control valve, just so I could safely drive it down the freeway to dealer where I was trading it in for another used car (my 2003 Mazda Protege 5 that I still drive) and when I went to pick it up at Midas, the shifter had gone out, again. Again, got it to the dealer OK and got my grand out of it to go towards the cost of the Mazder.
Dorman gets a lot of cheese for being Chineseism, but i was in the auto retail biz for over 30 years and they have been pretty good at finding and developing problem issues.

Some Doorman parts are made in the USA and some are made in China but they get pretty good ratings from lots of mechanics, they may not be as good as (brand name OEM like Motorcraft or AC Delco) but much better than most off name Chinese made parts !

IIRC Dorman makes the aluminum alloy thermostat housing for my Dad's '05 Dakota (factory is polymer)

I had a ford probe idr the year it would pop out of 5th all the time on highway, although the guy I bought it fro told me it was the synchronizer. I drove it 2 years like that it was ok.

Mr. O, obviously your the expert here. I'm a novice mechanic, my saying is: "I'll try most things that don't need a lift on the outside of the engine, but to the inside is where I stop." When you do the gasket in liquid form like that, I always go around the bolt holes. I noticed you and a lot of folks going around the inside, and not including, the bolt holes. Which way, is truly correct? I can't be the only 1 with this question. Ball park, on what the motor swap costs nowadays? I know and want to respect your privacy, of work pricing, but I'm just interested in case I have to. Great video though, thanks for all you and Mrs. O do for us DIY'ers.

Sure beats the sound and feel of the shameful thing breaking off, which is similar, but nowhere near as satisfying.

Sealant that's fluid will seal all imperfections on flanges opposed to solid gaskets.
Something funny is going on with Dorman. My Mustang had the dreaded swollen lug nut problem and the only replacements I could find (aside from OEM), were Dorman. They are single piece, not the really stupid double piece OEM type, and work just great.
