First off let me apologize for the crappy audio in the second half of the video 🙁 I thought it was still worth showing though because the product actually seemed to work really well. It is the 697-024 Jeep Wrangler 2018-05 Manual Transmission Shift Tower from Dorman. It fit good and the best part is it worked great. -Enjoy!

Dorman is luck of the draw. Most time you draw crap. Sometimes you get lucky.

  2. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Daniel Ventura says:

I wonder if Dorman makes a better intake system to replace the stupid design of the Focus airbox. It takes a tubular filter that never fits unless you slam your foot on it just to make it one eighth shorter.

  3. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Daddyoh says:

Well, maybe Dorman is finally listening to your comments about the crappy aftermarket parts they make and sell.

  4. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Daddyoh says:

Short video 11.34 min long. Must have been an afterthought.

Need to find a TJ to replace the cam sensor. i still dont know if i timed it right

I have a Dorman coolant overflow tank that replaced the rotted swiss cheese OEM tank in my 03 Envoy

    Respect!

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Rob Peters says:

I was hoping you would have put a straight edge against the bottom of the shifter to see if it was indeed flat and to make sure all the corner were going to seal completely using the gasket it came with. The anaerobic sealant is great and makes up for tiny imperfection in the mating area where the gasket can only do so much.

I owned a Chrysler product once, I am not surprised Dorman is better than OEM

  10. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Watchman999 says:

Dorman doesn't have all day to make something better. They have to make money on their products too. This is so obviously just sloppy and lazy engineering by Dodge that they should be class-actioned. And one of the less good after market product manufacturers knocks it out of the park? Shame…..shaaaame…..shaaaaaaaame….to quote Princess Bride. Great content Mr. O.

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bruce Meinsen says:

Hmmm… there's no small amount of engineering that goes into making that part. Dorman is no doubt one of the few aftermarket companies able to manufacture such a part and do it profitably ($450) while offering a replacement that's better than OEM. Well done, Dorman. Credit where it is due.

    Show us the engine!!!!

    Dorman: the wings of failure

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jam Ram says:

Melling is also a great aftermarket parts provider. Their engine oil pumps for Ford 4.6 and 5.3 engines are a vast improvement over Ford OE pumps.

It’s not that bad doing it from the inside.

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Nathan Beach says:

Had one a couple of years ago that would pop out of 3rd and 4th. Witch there was a tsb for the syncro witch we did, and lasted about 3 months and came back. Did some research and end up putting a B&M shifter in it and ended up fixing it.

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Tim Winters says:

As an old-school gasket user, I can attest to years of excellent seals as long as the gasket is reasonably thin and is coated, top and bottom, with bearing grease—never dry and never cork.

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jesse Murray says:

Dorman is garbage and I avoid using that brand if possible.

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mike Chiodetti says:

This is my first time hearing something positive about Dorman. This Jeep must have had a hard life. New engine, trans shifter, clutch…….

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars J. M. says:

Somehow my experiences with Dorman were all positive, from a $1800 hybrid battery to control arms, blend door actuators, nuts and bolts.

Appreciate the fact that you call out a good product even though it came from Doorman! Keep up the great videos, really enjoy them and learfn so much!

$450 for that dorman part!!?? Lol crazy…$800 at advanced auto!!

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars yambo59 says:

A Dorman part that WORKS-? Im surprised Eric wasnt elaborating on the subject after all the weak Dorman products hes dealt with. Nice call on nixing the gasket Eric, one comment said they had leaks with the gasket so yeah good call-!! experience and a reliable gut feeling can be very valuable in preventing future headaches.

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dave Osbun says:

A great Dorman product. I guess this makes number two (after the fuel line repair kit). This makes Dorman’s batting average .063……they’re getting hot now!

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars J Alton says:

    Great video as always.

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Shane Anderson says:

Gasket covered both sides in Aviation Gasket Goo . It will never leak again

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars J-TIZZO says:

I can't believe Dorman built anything that works. I was gonna tell you about the audio, but you already know….

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Shane Anderson says:

Don’t forget to grease up all the gates inside the shifter .

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ClockWatcher says:

The world must be ending if SMA is praising and recommending Dorman Products.

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars James Wood says:

    It is a Jeep thing!

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Stephen Cooney says:

Eric, you have just made a change from your getting to be normal videos. However you mentioned that the engine was out, And being dealt with, Why did you not show us some of that? Don't know why we have to watch endless broken wire type jobs. But I still like the channel.

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars bulkchart 32 says:

interesting. i always thought jumping out of gear was caused by a worn trans.

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Bourque says:

As a trans tech, I will always advocate against anarobic sealant. Granted I'm a little drunk at the time of this posting, but I have found that on envoy front differential's and shit like that, the anarobic sealant will crack and leak eventually. I always use GMS silicone based sealant.

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars David D'Amico says:

Nice work Eric, you do awesome work..

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Scott Marshall says:

I miss the old Halomar sealer. It was my goto for split crankcases ala Chainsaws. ATVs, motorcycles and snow machines. Good for Transfer cases etc, even some intakes. I was told it was discontinued as it had something nasty in it. The new stuff seems to work ok, but cures slower and seems less tolerant of imperfect surfaces and a little oil (assy lube) creepage. It also is a lot more expensive (no shock there I guess).
Glad to see Dorman maybe getting back in the game, 30 years ago, when they were "Motormite" they had pretty good stuff no one else made.
I just put a Dorman GM corporate 10 bolt cover on my 99 Tahoe, and It was OK but needed some threadseal on the plug. Not a deal breaker for the price.
Maybe they are actually getting that their reputation has gone bad in the last few years.
Thanks Mr O for another good tip and supporting video!
