Ray why not just cut cable off and use a standard socket once you cracked the O2 sensor
Different looking parts with the same part number irritate my OCD. Brake cylinders and calipers are the worst!
why would you take the socket off from the sensor to try to turn the sensor with your hand instead of just trying to turn it with the socket? is it better to take the socket off and try to turn with your hand when you just broke it free?
I have a 98 camry as a work car and the driver door would always close on its own just like this infinity. I got a few of the things that hold the doors open from a salvage yard and replaced the one on my door. No more door closing in on me all the time. 😃
Gotta love the customer that brings there own parts cannon and ammo.
Guys an hour long video….finally! Haha, I binge these vids and While the short ones are nice and easy to watch you to watch the longer ones are just so much more satisfying.
On these newer cars you have to know how to read a electrical schematic of the car's wiring. Great job Ray!!!
Ray I do my work in the dark. What is your excuse
I will be the naysayer. I think the silicone solution was pretty good. It just needed some heat shrink around the connectors.
One would hope you left the guy one of the old o2 sensors or At least the plug in case the future repair comes up with a replacement connector
you could of just put on a new Deutsch Connector instead of bonding the wires together
Sometimes you just have to be “that guy”.
I think that the bad sensor was a universal type that you have to wire in depending on the application. Cheaper than the correct fitting part. Used car dealers use the universal O2's all the time to save a nickle in profit. Usually don't fit well or are wired like this one.
That screw on those Irwin wire strippers is adjustable. It's an eccentric and has like 4 positions of different grip. They are top quality strippers when used properly.
That thing will rust away into a shit heap before it needs O2 sensors again. It's already 3/4 of the way there.
Say Ray i see you wearing your wedding band, does it ever get caught or hot ?
Good Job my Friend! Great´s from Germany! :))))
My 17yr old son had asked me why I close my eyes when i am working on vehicles some times. I am just gonna send him to this vid and tell him its what the pros do.
Ive fixed a bunch of cars with a blown fuse causing the problem….simple fix sometimes.
Have you ever had a wreck on a test drive?
Try marine heat shrink, it has a sealant that melts when you shrink it. Nice repair.
Where did you get those butt connectors? I really like them. That wire stripper is awesome, I have one and use it all the time
Complimentary comment, to feed the algorithm.
You expected backlash… out of interest what would be wrong with using M/F connectors on each wire?
There is an adjustment on the wire pliers to account for fine wires
Hey Ray! Just an FYI, You can lightly crimp that solder conector to hold the wires in place while your reaching for your heat gun. Keep up the good work!
anyone who gives you backlash for splicing the wires probably never turned a wrench on a time deadline
Nissan 350 Z ?
How did it die while driving at a stoplight? Did he run the light? Did he coast through the intersection?
Rust bucket
Tribus tools used to make a racheting oxygen sensor tool.
How many wrenches are gonna fall victim to GRAVITY 😂
You done good, Ray. 😉
i would have put a plug that i could get now, didn't have to be the oem one, wouldn't a anderson style plug have worked ?
That's not a 2007
You are reliving those old Pepsi commercials got the right one baby uh huh. This is the reason I quit wrenching on cars full time I run out of patients to quick
My 07 Nissan 350z has the same damn problem with the door!! I learned the hard way when it damn near broke my ankle 😭 I just try to make the best of it now and tell people it has “auto close doors” some people really have believed that too 🤣🤣
Maybe the shift nob is compensation for something
Nice diagnosis and repair, Ray. I know you can't do "freebies" on unauthorized problems but that door problem might have only been two lost nuts that hold the door check mechanism to the door so, instead, the mechanism just moves inside the door as it closes (rather than allowing it to grab the shaft and hold the door open in either of its two "check" positions.) A potential simple fix that would have saved your leg from multiple impacts. Yes, not something typically done but greatly appreciated if it is fixed. Of course, if the mechanism is broken and needs replacing, a note could be included on the invoice.
Hey Ray, Thanks for all your videos and something to laugh with you too! for the repair though (solder connections) use crimp and seal butt connectors. The sensor side wire is actually stainless steel stranded and solder doesn't stick to stainless steel. Otherwise very meticulous work!
Why not do something simple as to remove the engine? haha
yea, that car came from up north
Cloth/friction tape should not be used in this situation. It acts like a wick and draws moisture into the splice.
Didn't have time to go to the junk yard to get a connector?
That repair will outlast the car. It was beautiful indeed!!!
Crusty? You should come work on some Salt belt cars up in People's Republic of NY
I always wondered, why not cut off the wires on the sensors being removed so you’re not fighting it coiling the whole time it’s being removed. Seems like it would help a little. Another great video btw!
REEEEEE!!! You did something different than the way I would do it if I knew what I was doing when doing your job!!! How dare you!!!!!!!
Ray you need to get your hands on a box of deutsch connectors! Would of been perfect for this situation! Nice and neat job with what you had on hand but, great job!
Have you tried trebus ratchet wrench?
perhaps the sensor without the never seize is actually a counterfeit part in a counterfeit factory-like box
When the world gives you lemons, kick the world in shins and tell it you don't want any more goddamn fruit baskets.
Right
Instead of cutting off the new connector on the o2 sensor all it needed was the pins on the broken connector insulated, possibly by heat shrink after they are all connected.
Do-do-do-do-do
Maybe you should invest in some kline wire strippers instead of those Irwin strippers (just guessing because of the colors) . Never had any problems with old faithful kline brand. Great video Ray !
Keep the long format videos coming.
I watch at 2x speed anyway.
Nice splice and tape job there Ray, I would recommend getting some Scotch 130C Liner less Splice tape that's self volcanizing and overwrap that with some Scotch 33+ or 88
I have also used a lighter, a BBQ one, to melt the solder and set the heat shrink on those connectors.
Nice repair, well done Ray. I appreciate your efforts in getting optimal viewing angles with the cameras as well. Thank you😎
My husband and I enjoy watching your videos especially when you try to mimick the phone and power down a vehicle sound effect or when you say first day on the job. Keep up the awesome jobs on the videos.
Just FYI Ray.. the g35s and 350z are bad about the doors closing on ya legs.. 😆 it's one thing their known for..
great job brother
No worries this wreck won't last that much longer 😆
I would have sourced a replacement connector from a junkyard if possible.
Try staggering your junctions. It will be easier to wrap the final layer and look niiiiiiccer!
Sometimes the enemy of good is better.
The owner might have paid extra to have automatic closing doors installed as a after market extra
Beautiful wire splices, sounds like Alvin was all jacked up on coffee. ☕️
I've taken threads with an o2 but I did have an o2 cross threaded from the factory. Luckily I was able to get an impact on it and came out after hours of heat and impact. Crazy enough only the thread on the o2 were garbage the manifold was ok.
Oh the horror…lol cutting plug off and splicing….the trolls will love this….I myself say…you do what you need to do…well played Ray
Absolutely awesome job done well. !!!
This video triggered some suppressed rage for me because I used to own an 03 G35 and if I could've drove that car off a cliff I would've. Had nothing but weird electrical problems. Parts weren't cheap and it was an absolute nightmare to work on. It always burned up coils on the passenger bank of the engine. The day i went to trade it in it was missing on the way home. Luckily it was so intermentent that it stopped missing on the way to the dealership 🤣. I hope it ended up in the crusher. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk
No brake clean 😥
I would have used a Deutsch connector but hard wire is also going to work. My reasoning is at a letter date the sensor can be disconnected for diagnosis rather than cutting wires.
I learned from a master mechanic (summer job in college) when wrapping black tape to do a slight stretch on the tape after each wrap. Trust me after fixing/rewiring lights on 30 semi trailers, he was right, if you stretch it after each wrap, it will stay on tighter long term.
when all else fails, try the Eric O reach around to get the threads started.
Dooodadoooooooo
Fay talking during super speed up mode sounds like Foamy the Squirrel. And, hey, soldering those wires together is still better than welding on a ball joint like some * other * mechanic on YouTube did. >.<
Neat and Tidy wins in the end. . . SHINY ! 😎
Barring improper fuel being used, is it possible for a catalytic converter to fail?
Denso quality has went into the shitter due to China made O2 and radiators. My radiator shop laughed at the use of red silicone used on the rubber O-rings to half ass correct bad seals at the drain and lower radiator hose outlet. The O2 came with no outer coating to protect the small wires bundle.
Ray I also wonder about that too whether to change the one bad sensor on a vehicle that has multiple sensors are the same type like O2 sensors upstream and downstream but then I think again I’m changing one that’s bad I change it and leave the others alone then three days later another one goes out then I have to go through the process of changing it when I go to change them all at this time when I could’ve just changed all of them the first time instead of just the one Sometimes trying to save money by only doing one repair by changing one instead of all four at the same time can bite you in the butt I found that out the hard way myself personally when working on my Corvette as well I was working on my diesel pick up but I do understand what you’re getting at I love watching your shows your video clips I learn from them as well keep up the good work and drive safely
Thank you Ray for taking the time and redo the wiring diagram. You sharing your diagnostic skills with this issue is priceless for those who watch and learn from you. Peace DVD:)
why not put the wire for the downstrean in the clip on the side of the oil pan like the right side. Anyway love the vids keep up the good work.
Why would you fight with that O2 sensor enough to save the wires are you going to keep it for later cut the wires put a deep well on it move on
well RAY your question about how you can get the same part MADE BY the SAME PEOPLE,and they are both different is a trick question. I know the answer,my MOM told me when i was 5 years old> Son how can you 1day take a normal poop and the VERY NEXT day take a poop that LOOKS AND SMELLS like it BELONGS to an ELEPHANT????? Just LUCKY I GUESS!!!
What a shitty place for a fuse box
very professional ray i wish you wonderful sunday in your neck of the woods
cuh-lick
Almost all Ray's broken cars have really high mileage.
You people wring every last mile outta your cars.
My 2014 S class has 30k on the clock now and I'm concerned 🤣
Very very pretty and good wiring work love it
How can you drive at a stop light?
The wire on the sensor is nickel plated and the insulation is high temp so it strips goofy.
right connections
If you were dyslexic and left handed it's a piece of cake. Just sayin,.
I’ve seen this style of butt connector advertisement and wondered if they were worth a flip, looks like they are. Good to know!
