well Ray you better hurry up with ya next one buddy , im waiting for your next class .
This is why i still hsvent taken ny manifold off on my 89 grand wagoneer.. it leaks bad.. i plug it with store junk.. it works for a few months thrn blows out again… head bolts are only 13mm too.. i bet they will all break if i take em off.. abd i worry about welding on a iron head
It’s a 5.7 Liter not a 5.3 Liter HEMI… JS 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️👍
extractors
Great work as always Ray look forward to part 2 the install on the headers @Rainman Ray's Repairs
Top tip. Always tap the heads of bolt/studs you want to release in aluminum. Steel makes room in the aluminum and helps penetrating oil.
3 broken studs that I say is a good day Ray very good day @Rainman Ray's Repairs
Bumped a curb parking ice and it knocked the steering wheel out of alignment. Took it to the shop and they must have removed the steering linkage bolt because they put it in backwards and it worked it’s way out. Lost steering completely. Thank god it happened in a big open parking lot.
That manifold came out pretty easy only 2 broken studs not bad @Rainman Ray's Repairs
Dam, I have to wait?
Hi Ray, I always find it interesting how we use the words nuts and bolts interchangeably. We say bolts when we want to say nuts and vice versa. I wonder why that is? Sorry for the ramble, it just fascinates me how many people do that.
Fender removed room to do anything for days you can remove the coils from the side with all that room grab a chair and sit and relax and do the job without leaning over the grill and core support nice @Rainman Ray's Repairs
Very nice headers Are they Gibson headers ? Oh nice BBK shorty headers @Rainman Ray's Repairs
You must have bad eyes missing all the fasteners
Hey Ray! Love the videos, keep ' em coming. Question, where can I get some of those green brushes you use to clean off gasket surfaces.
Where a socket falls I would be cursing, Ray – Gravity. 😆 I would have no patience
After replacing the passenger manifold bolts (and sanding like the LS video) on my ‘05 Grand Cherokee, I’m extremely jealous of all the open space in the Ram.
lesson of the day always one more fastener
Fords are the worst risky dink little studs snap off to easy.
I like shops that will let me supply the parts I need replaced. Lets me find a good price and usually good price for goos brand, while I still get to have the part properly installed.
Have one near me like that and the labor rate is always reasonable and the owner gives good recommendations on brands to buy. Got moog control arms on his suggestion and got them cheaper online than parts stores sold them for.
If you would have left it over night to cool off you don't get burned, but you might have broke half of the bolts!
Murphy's law and I are old enemies…
You just answered my question Ray some stupid engineer in his idiotic reason put fluid tubes next to the exhaust probably it was 5 bucks cheaper than doing a proper job
Hi Ray, could you provide an amazon link to the finger cleaner heads, I've searched and can't find them, I really need these in my tool box, thanks
Another awesome job. I learn every time I watch you. Couldn't figure out why you didn't disconnect that wire and just worked around it
Are you not concerned about getting weld slag into exhaust chambers and causing damage to engine?
Ray why is there a heat shield on the exhaust ??? there would be shit loads of air blowing over it
Hi Ray, how are you? Anyway I seriously love your videos! You are an amazing mechanic! & funny too! I learn a lot from your videos & love them!, It's always hilarious when that's phone rings & you take out of your time just to say doo-doo dee-doo-doo & that cracks me up & as well when you ask your fellow workers to do it too! Lol, I was wondering if you have or can make a short fun compilation of your "doo doo dee doo doo's"? Please? Lol thanks & keep up the good awesome work that everyone loves watching & you take care! 😃
Just popped in to let you know you welded it wrong. I don't know what right is, but by definition it's wrong, because it's on the internet.
Isn't he the qb for the Saints?
TEETH! THE TEETH! OWWWWWWW!!!!
Ford V10. The ultimate challenge! Disconnect the battery first Ray!
Those oem manifolds probably flow just as well as the shorty's, customers choice but I seen oem manifolds from the 90s flowing as good as most shorties. Plus even mid length and long tubes only make noticeable change at high rpm so unless you're racing they don't help that much. You'll start to lose significant low end power with long tubes and race manifolds.
Hey rainman would you make a video explaining the pros of cons of flat rate in your experience. Its for people thinking about starting a career in the auto industry
That ratchet needs to be greased.
I'm not even a mechanic and your content is amazing! It's like prescription of what I need after a long day of work. Subscribed!
The wife and I are going for a long road trip till I get confirmation on Part 2 of this repair, thanks Ray 😏
A reverse drill bit would have taken that stud out easily, no mess either.
Did you work at a different shop a year ago? I watched an older video of yours, and it didn't look like the same area, the stall looked different, and your lift was a different color. Not to mention the Topdon scanner.
EDIT: Also the lack of doodley-doo's.
How is Ryan doing?
where does that 'brush' head you use on your die-grinder come from? I found sandpaper and scrubbie types but not that finger stile?
Everyone in the shop is thinking OH NO Ray's using the welder again
Man, that nut welding section on the broken stud had me thinking that the whole thing would be a failure. I was so happy when it worked, and the stud came out! I know than it doesn't always work out that easily.
oh man! just like when you have to wait till next week for part 2 in the old tv days. had that done to my 2010, ten years ago. might be doing it again..
those bolts are the worst to get off
interesting that even in my 05 the same manifold bolts are broken.
Ah dodge, the dodge of……well, dodge I guess.
Word to the wise, if you're going to put headers on hemi, do it before 60,000 miles…
I had this exact problem with my 2012 so I went in to do the work. when I backed out one of bolts, there was Teflon tape on the bolt I backed the bolt all the way out, come to find out the person before me I guess had a shop or they tried to do it them selfves and drill into the coolant jacket and the Teflon tape was keeping the coolant from leaking out. so I had to replace the passanger side cylinder head. good thing rams are push rods because if they weren't I wouldnt have been able to do it my self. because I wouldn't have enough confidence to mess with timing.
Hey! I’m about to start schooling Togo into the industry. It’s super fun to watch you do your job and learn a thing or two!
Famous last words… " Can't be tight if it's a liquid " 😂😂😂😂
What is your wheel brush, and where might one procure such an apparatus?
Hi
welded it right off. lol
Ok waiting around for part 2 , let's go already 🤔
Those are some tiny brakes for that truck.
Can't find part 2…
I tow for insurance companies and it's crazy how many vehicles we bring to the dealer service parking lot is outrageous.
If I didn't like the video then tap the like button?
Love watching difficulties
Come on rainman it's not a Dodge it's a RAM
You could use the long reach needle nose vise grip I sent you a while ago. Great video….you win!!🥳
"Send It"…… Priceless
A block of wood with crocus cloth is much safer. Not everyone is capable with air tools.
Clean your tip.
You put a straight edge on those manifolds?
Your a great mechanic Ray. If you ever have a broken bolt down inside the head there's a stick rod by cronatron 3330 that weld down in side of bolt hole and won't stick to wall just broken bolt. Just build it up to washer then weld nut to washer
Had this issue on my 09 ram 1500 on both sides at about 90,000 miles. Thank god for lifetime powertrain warranty. Covered the replacement of the studs.
Are you fully license mechanic
What is the 'cleaning grinder' you use? The green rubber-looking attachment to polish up the surface before reinstall.
I enjoy the heck out of this channel. I hope YT is paying you a ton. If I made tools, I'd be your top sponsor. I This is so much fun to watch and I've picked up a couple of things. I'm a gravity fed/points kinda guy. Your learning curve is way past me but a few of the things you have done I can do now that I've seen you do it. Small stuff. Ha.
Keep it up
Wait…no…an exhaust leak on a dodge?!?
My dear sir, how could you think of such a vile reality?
Does the sarcasm register the same?
Damn dude. 20 minutes in and 5 one minute ads
Every Ram that comes in my shop has some sort of tick haha
Wait until u c how rusty mine r.
I'm thinking how easy would it be to move the dipstick? only a couple of bolts pull it out! then it's "I've got to take the engine mount out to get the dipstick out "🤣😅😂 now I know 🤣 but man you have all the luck 😅 all the best to you and your loved ones
Do you have a Bolt Buster, or similar tool, in your collection…?
Ray your editing is getting better and better.
Are you sure you aren't a previous hollywood producer?
👍 👍
exhaust leak at 55k miles, must be a fiat.
I had to do the same job. All 4 rear snapped off flush in the heads on my 2500 4×4. Nice to see we ran into the same issues. I started with an oil change and found my rattle that was driving me crazy. Yeap still get made fun of cause it took me 2 weeks total to fix it. I drilled mine out. Left hand bits and easy outs. Slow and steady. My hands dont work well either so took longer. Was fun though. Love my truck.
I am glad to see the reach around was safely conducted…………
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO DO THIS
Sadly they all do this that engine shakes so much in the engine compartment it pretty much snaps off bolts on the exhaust manifold it's a horrible design flaw
Go buy a lotto ticket Ray!!! The odds of getting both of those broken studs first shot are crazy.
Those manifolds will definitely give that turd a 0-60 time of at least 15 minutes.
Totally tubular!
Winner winner big chicken dinner.
Had a laugh with you beating your wrench to get it off. Reminded me of Yoda in episode 5. Just needed to slap it once more when it came off. 🤣
Your welding skills are getting better bro
You got super lucky with those broken off bolts…whew!! I would have blasted the inside of the holes to flush out anything thats loose…a great brakleen portion 🙂 A great video Ray:-)
"… did I win?" … 🎉🎊🐔🥣❗
I in Joy seeing you work.
I no right. Crazy. I my self try not to. But ?
BROKEN EX BOLTS ARE NOT BRAND OR MFG SENSITIVE…THEY ALL USE INFERIOR BOLTS ON EX MANIFOLDS!!! DANG CHEAP…
Why did they put the computer next to the hot exhaust? Some automakers have no logic.
Man I was slow getting to the video today 🤣.
