Really love all your videos — It depicts the reality of life being a mechanic — the frustrations, mistakes, accomplisment, breaking things, challenges etc haha ….not like the most videos only showing all the beautiful things,
Wishing there was such a conscientious and detail oriented mechanic here…
To you it's a "rubasu" To me(having had a couple) they are "Supercrudes'
if the vehicle is more than five years old; i used to automatically replace the schrader valve, like yourself got burned once too often. Reduced comebacks for loss of gas by 95%+ when i replaced the valves as part of regular recharge service. I wish my Robinair machine was as new as yours is. I'm using a machine that's now over 20 years old …
Good video showing why maintenance is Needed @Rainman Ray's Repairs
The evaporator is probably leaking. Forestor, Imprezza and XV are notorious for leaking evaporators, well in RHD at least. I change between 10 and 20 of these evaps every summer.
30,000 miles and already problems. Shows you the kind of total crap that's out there these days. 😤
Thumbs up for the way you look after your customers. It must bring a lot of return customers also.
First thought was condensor fan. If thats not working, ac will blow hot when not moving
Hey ray do you have an good recommendation for a brand for a rack and pinion for a Dodge Durango 2002 4wd
When I have to evac a gm with the black rubber valve stem, I put a new one on everytime cus they fail after removing hoses all the time when you charge them.
As a tech myself I’d honestly bring u my car just to laugh my ass off at everything wrong with it needs shift linkage needs a clutch master cylinder replaced the slave cylinder my intake is clogged or egr im assuming so it goes in limp mode at 110 then forgets it’s in limp mode till 140 then forgets it’s in limp mode till 220kmh then forgets and tops out at 270 keep in mind this a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta TDI I need a turbo rebuild found a $200 6.0 powerstroke 58mm turbo said bet now it’s a massive turbo 4 cyl on 36psi it has 500,000km on it (340-350,0000 miles) not sure needs piston rings a head gasket needs a ac compressor clutch possibly lacking a cylinder at the moment can’t tell runs the same little rougher or that’s just a part of my clogged intake issue you’d find so much more then I’ve had time to look at thing still gets me whenever I need most reliable car I’ve ever seen in my life
It's nice to know I'm not the only one who calls them Rubasu.
I had a Subaru for 8 years. The A/C clutch engagement was quite obnoxious. Similar sound as when Ray first popped the hood here but just for a moment if that makes sense. Always blew cold so I didn’t really care. However the electronics for the climate controls (blower motor resistor, heater control module) didn’t hold up very well.
great video
Just changed mine out, used a new to me zerk change device got on amazon but didn't have to remove the charge.. pretty cool thing…
At 30k… shouldn't this be covered under warranty? Also, not surprised as it's a Subaru, might as well give them your number on speed dial. Guaranteed it'll need brakes and at least two wheel bearings at 45k and probably struts. The AWD system is hands down superior to all others and their window regulators and other interior pieces that matter are great…the rest of it is trash in my not so humble and very salty opinion…
When my ac sys was opened last I asked if they would replace the stem valves or what ever they are called and the service manager said they would and I don't think it happened
"CVT transmissions; they all sound so neutered"
Can we put that on a coffee mug?? 😅😅
A Subaru with a bunch of masks…classic!
Your ending is excellent! I also believe it behooves people to learn how systems work! I asked My father inlawn why my compressor was making a grinding noise. One he thought it was the blower motor and i told him it still made the noise. He tried filling it with refriderant, still noise. So then I did my own research and found a hole in the line and I was able to take it to a shop and tell them what I believed was needed, i think they over charged me on the refrigerant, but my car was having problems starting before it went in, when it came out it hasnt, so I think they fixed another issue so I won’t complain!
Always a joy watching your videos. Thanks Ray. 👍😎
nice job Ray …. wish I lived 1500 miles ( 2300 kms) closer to you .. you would service my vehicle .. awesome videos .. keep up the great work
Sounds like I should have those valve stems changed out in my '11 Ram. It sloooowly leaks down and needs to be recharged about once a year. It's never quite empty, and the only place the UV light glows is at the low pressure port.
great video as always, keep up the good work
I have an 06 Duramax that has Nebraska had the AC serviced. Bought the old girl new. 🙏
We need better mechanics like your, Scotty, and some few others
It's funny I'm an up-and-coming mechanic and I've been watching your videos and in a past video you were showing the Schrader valves and you were showing how the gaskets on them get flattened out and wore out! Today I was at work and we had a vehicle come in that had been slowly losing refrigerant over about a two week period of time the master tech pulled out the Schrader valve and the gasket on it was almost non-existent it was so flattened out I told him I think that that gasket's not good.. He said well I think that's what they're supposed to look like and so we searched the shop to find our air conditioning kit that has all of our Schrader valves and extra parts when he pulled it out he looked at it and it was like night and day .. He's like well how did you know that!! Like I said I just started there and I've only been there about 6 months .. I told him I watch your channel and how you showed us what a good one looks like and what a bad one looks like .. He was pretty impressed so I just wanted to share that with you I thought it was pretty cool!!
That would be the day we stopped using R22 the new gasses are a lot harder on everything except the environment or so they say
Nice one Ray.
Can you replace the ac valves without discharging the ac system?
Just so your aware from memory.. they have an updated condenser available as they corrode from the inside. Also they have updated the compressor for a couple of things, noisy check valve and for the clutch wearing causing the gap to increase, causing the ac to stop pumping intermittently, you usually can re-shim it.
The caps should really override the Schrader valves in theory. Do abit of ac work but semi new to it. But I do replace the valves fairly reg when system is apart
I work in a calibration lab, four times a year our quality department reviews my PROCESS as I perform it. It’s expected that I will perform the task correctly, but they verify that my process is the same every time no matter what the unit under test is. Variations in your process cause errors to go undetected.
Excellent job again, Ray! Those little valve cores are probably the cheapest part in the whole system; yeah, maybe they don't make them like they used to, but changing them every time the system is serviced would seem to me to be cheap insurance.
the commercial hvac ac guys do the same w valves throw em away 🙂
I truly wish you were in my area. I would take my truck to you anyday bud. AWESOME WORK!
Dude! you are cool. keep on
Oh look! A craptacular over priced battery.
Yes, but the FAT ONES AND THE FAT TOOL! they are the hard ones to find. Love this video.
I’m happy!
When a ac compressor is noisy do you check the ac oil? There is suppose to be some in it…
Bees don't have hooves, bees have feet…
❤
I dont mean to be rude but your vice is totally fucked up my dude
Lately I've replaced 12 to 15 of the Schrader. Leaking a lot.
HEY RAY!!! I been watching a lot of your videos I'm gonna be passing through the county soon it would be an honor for you to work on my Volvo!!!! I think it would make for an interesting video too❤️
You need to move to DFW area so I can have you service my vehicles. As always I learned something today. Thank you.
Subaru quality appears to be going down the toilet as of late. I never thought they were great, but they were ok. Now, I don't even think they're ok. They appear to be taking quality lessons from Nissan. Back in the day, if it were Japanese, it was good. Not the case anymore. Jatco (Nissan owns Jatco) cvt transmission are pure garbage! Subaru uses them.
At the Subaru dealership I work for. The valves majority of the time tend to be the major culprits for ac leakage. We frequently have customer just assuming they need a new compressor as Subaru used to be notorious for horrible compressors, but they love to find out it’s only yelling loud noises due to a simple leak at the valves.
Heads up though. If this Forester does come back with a repeat AC issue. There is a recall (WRB-21) on the Foresters for the AC condensers for like concerns the customer was experiencing and/or a warranty extension up to 100k miles by the Subaru manufacturer warranty! I believe the recall applies to the 17-18’s but the extension I think applies to 15-18
Always love the videos!
So I'm not the only one that calls them "Arubasu", LOL!
Yea, I'd rather a couple valves and a recharge be the cost rather than an entire system replacement. Far far too many places will just go full replacement rather than actual diagnosis and quick repair, and that is the sad state of the mechanic world these days.
A honest technician but the big issue here HE IS HONEST!!!
Wow loud music much? You need your own garage. Couldn't watch.
What about your truck shocks? Are you going to tell us what the Rancho secret upgrade is? I've been on a futile quest for good shocks for a very long time.
CVT trannys suck!… haha.. no long term life of the tranny, cant be repaired when they fail.
Hope the door has no damage…
I'm not happy about this. Try better next time.
I always thought it was a maintenance item but we could never get the fuckin parts guy to stock them
Nice door slam against the lift
👍👍😃
Only 30k miles and Subotaru doesn't cover the A/C? They must have a crap warranty.
My ac gauges are junk too, nothing makes me more mad than when it takes more than 2 seconds to pop the gauges on a vehicle
My Subaru is having ac problems as well as missing oil after only a thousand miles between oil changes
The Army needs YOU sir, fixing helicopters….you are a good man
👎👎👎Shaky camera👎👎👎
How dare you test it and repair it the right way! At least you didn't have to weld anything (I've seen you weld)
I like the way you go about problem solving! What a gem you are!!
They became a mainentance item when we started having them made in China .
My wife's '14 Rubasu Forester with over 100k miles has never cooled well even when fully charged. It's just a so-so system to begin with. Luckily we can get away with that for the most part in the NE.
PS – my mechanic loves those crusty rear wheel bearing changes.
Every time I get a 'good morning', it does in fact make my morning better. Thanks Ray!
I drive around with thermometer in all my vehicles lol..yea whars up with the Schraders i think they arexmade crappy
Wow! You really know (all the time) what to do. And you never change things that are not busted or bad! U r the Best. Honest. You will become super lucky soon. yesss.
Happy.
If a late model Forester makes compressor noise that is because that compressor is Chinese made junk. Not a joke.
2011 4runner never serviced A/C 248k miles. I keep the gauge in the vent.
👍
Been super lucky and happy with my 2001 GMC Sierra Z71, still on the factory charge of freon and still blows super cold. Pretty much have only done oil and filter changes (religiously) and changed tires and brakes and fluid servicings over the years, 5.3L runs like a top.
They became maintenance items when everyone wants to connect hoses to everything.
Ray just reminded me of my A/C service tech. The A/C on our house quit working in the middle of the night last month. (We are in the Phx, AZ metro area.) I texted him at 2:27 AM and he texted me back at 2:29AM! Said to turn the unit off as the symptoms I described indicated the capacitor may have died and it trying to start the compressor could damage the unit. At 4:10 AM the door bell rang. He was standing at the door and had completed his rooftop diagnostic work. The batteries in the thermostat were dead. All it took to get the A/C unit going again was 2 AA batteries. A $50 house call in the wee hours of the morning and we are cool again.
I will say, if I was within 200 miles of Ray, he would absolutely be doing all my auto repair and service work!! You get two thumbs up, Ray!!👍👍
Those subies always have loud compressors. Lol
Charging on the high side?
one human to another I am proud of you
If you want the OEM style shocks for your truck not messing around with other brands they are kinda pricey but bilstein is definitely a brand I’d recommend
I like AWD options in cars now a lot but the 4WD is something I miss.
Does the factory freon that's inserted while manufacturing come with dye?
Happy like tap!
always a great video on lunch break. ray you hit that vice with yo fist didn't ya??
Good job Ray. Saved this lady a pile of money that she may not be abe to spare…. This leaky schrader valve phenomena is good to know about for my own family's vehicles. Can anyone recommend where to get higher quality schrader valves?
Very good work and problems sorting .👍👍👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧UK
Your around Tampa the place I was raise
What happened to doo-dee-doo-dee-doo?
Good video Brother !
I wish you were up here in Michigan, I would bring my cars to you and only you!
Ray has gotten me to say Rubasu. And I make Subaru parts at work.
Do you have your 609 certification
its probably because its florida, florida heat means more A/C servicing, more valve gasket wear.
what happened to the low pressure cutoff switch?
It's a 'Scooby-Doo' Ray 😂
