Really love all your videos — It depicts the reality of life being a mechanic — the frustrations, mistakes, accomplisment, breaking things, challenges etc haha ….not like the most videos only showing all the beautiful things,

Wishing there was such a conscientious and detail oriented mechanic here…

To you it's a "rubasu" To me(having had a couple) they are "Supercrudes'

if the vehicle is more than five years old; i used to automatically replace the schrader valve, like yourself got burned once too often. Reduced comebacks for loss of gas by 95%+ when i replaced the valves as part of regular recharge service. I wish my Robinair machine was as new as yours is. I'm using a machine that's now over 20 years old …

Good video showing why maintenance is Needed @Rainman Ray's Repairs

The evaporator is probably leaking. Forestor, Imprezza and XV are notorious for leaking evaporators, well in RHD at least. I change between 10 and 20 of these evaps every summer.

30,000 miles and already problems. Shows you the kind of total crap that's out there these days. 😤

As a tech myself I’d honestly bring u my car just to laugh my ass off at everything wrong with it needs shift linkage needs a clutch master cylinder replaced the slave cylinder my intake is clogged or egr im assuming so it goes in limp mode at 110 then forgets it’s in limp mode till 140 then forgets it’s in limp mode till 220kmh then forgets and tops out at 270 keep in mind this a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta TDI I need a turbo rebuild found a $200 6.0 powerstroke 58mm turbo said bet now it’s a massive turbo 4 cyl on 36psi it has 500,000km on it (340-350,0000 miles) not sure needs piston rings a head gasket needs a ac compressor clutch possibly lacking a cylinder at the moment can’t tell runs the same little rougher or that’s just a part of my clogged intake issue you’d find so much more then I’ve had time to look at thing still gets me whenever I need most reliable car I’ve ever seen in my life

I had a Subaru for 8 years. The A/C clutch engagement was quite obnoxious. Similar sound as when Ray first popped the hood here but just for a moment if that makes sense. Always blew cold so I didn’t really care. However the electronics for the climate controls (blower motor resistor, heater control module) didn’t hold up very well.

Just changed mine out, used a new to me zerk change device got on amazon but didn't have to remove the charge.. pretty cool thing…

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Yeah Right says:

At 30k… shouldn't this be covered under warranty? Also, not surprised as it's a Subaru, might as well give them your number on speed dial. Guaranteed it'll need brakes and at least two wheel bearings at 45k and probably struts. The AWD system is hands down superior to all others and their window regulators and other interior pieces that matter are great…the rest of it is trash in my not so humble and very salty opinion…

When my ac sys was opened last I asked if they would replace the stem valves or what ever they are called and the service manager said they would and I don't think it happened

Your ending is excellent! I also believe it behooves people to learn how systems work! I asked My father inlawn why my compressor was making a grinding noise. One he thought it was the blower motor and i told him it still made the noise. He tried filling it with refriderant, still noise. So then I did my own research and found a hole in the line and I was able to take it to a shop and tell them what I believed was needed, i think they over charged me on the refrigerant, but my car was having problems starting before it went in, when it came out it hasnt, so I think they fixed another issue so I won’t complain!

Sounds like I should have those valve stems changed out in my '11 Ram. It sloooowly leaks down and needs to be recharged about once a year. It's never quite empty, and the only place the UV light glows is at the low pressure port.

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars P Power Productions says:

It's funny I'm an up-and-coming mechanic and I've been watching your videos and in a past video you were showing the Schrader valves and you were showing how the gaskets on them get flattened out and wore out! Today I was at work and we had a vehicle come in that had been slowly losing refrigerant over about a two week period of time the master tech pulled out the Schrader valve and the gasket on it was almost non-existent it was so flattened out I told him I think that that gasket's not good.. He said well I think that's what they're supposed to look like and so we searched the shop to find our air conditioning kit that has all of our Schrader valves and extra parts when he pulled it out he looked at it and it was like night and day .. He's like well how did you know that!! Like I said I just started there and I've only been there about 6 months .. I told him I watch your channel and how you showed us what a good one looks like and what a bad one looks like .. He was pretty impressed so I just wanted to share that with you I thought it was pretty cool!!

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars EITS says:

That would be the day we stopped using R22 the new gasses are a lot harder on everything except the environment or so they say

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Tony Mercer says:

    Nice one Ray.

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Paul Melcher says:

Can you replace the ac valves without discharging the ac system?

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars The bagdersarse says:

Just so your aware from memory.. they have an updated condenser available as they corrode from the inside. Also they have updated the compressor for a couple of things, noisy check valve and for the clutch wearing causing the gap to increase, causing the ac to stop pumping intermittently, you usually can re-shim it.

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ashley Payne says:

The caps should really override the Schrader valves in theory. Do abit of ac work but semi new to it. But I do replace the valves fairly reg when system is apart

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars loundagr says:

I work in a calibration lab, four times a year our quality department reviews my PROCESS as I perform it. It’s expected that I will perform the task correctly, but they verify that my process is the same every time no matter what the unit under test is. Variations in your process cause errors to go undetected.

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Sean35015 says:

Excellent job again, Ray! Those little valve cores are probably the cheapest part in the whole system; yeah, maybe they don't make them like they used to, but changing them every time the system is serviced would seem to me to be cheap insurance.

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Donald Desnoo says:

the commercial hvac ac guys do the same w valves throw em away 🙂

Subaru quality appears to be going down the toilet as of late. I never thought they were great, but they were ok. Now, I don't even think they're ok. They appear to be taking quality lessons from Nissan. Back in the day, if it were Japanese, it was good. Not the case anymore. Jatco (Nissan owns Jatco) cvt transmission are pure garbage! Subaru uses them.

  49. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars 217_Gentlemen says:

At the Subaru dealership I work for. The valves majority of the time tend to be the major culprits for ac leakage. We frequently have customer just assuming they need a new compressor as Subaru used to be notorious for horrible compressors, but they love to find out it’s only yelling loud noises due to a simple leak at the valves.

Heads up though. If this Forester does come back with a repeat AC issue. There is a recall (WRB-21) on the Foresters for the AC condensers for like concerns the customer was experiencing and/or a warranty extension up to 100k miles by the Subaru manufacturer warranty! I believe the recall applies to the 17-18’s but the extension I think applies to 15-18

    Always love the videos!
