In this video I bring you along as I replace the radiator in a customer 1989 1989 Camaro Iroc Z28 with the big tuned port 5.0. It is a really easy job in comparison to most new cars we see in the shop today.

who wants a Honda if you can have one of these
Those 1980’s Chevy Camaro’s specially the Z28 feel like there a Time Capsule. Just good old times what America used to be like.
Happy birthday kiddo 🎊. Hope ya have many many more.
EO I can feel the American heritage in that car and I'm Cdn. It's nice to see something that doesnt need 3 scanners and 4 schematic diagrams for a change.
'Murica Galore, lol. Happy B'Day Eric!
A depressing reminder of how old I am. The cars of the 70s were even better.
Happy birthday
I thought the 5.0 was California only and that the rest of the country got the 5.7. They were nice cars in their day.
Where can I order one of those 1/2" wrenches? 🙂
' I don't wanna die ' …classic also 😅
I agree Eric O, had multiple experiences with radiators that fit like crap. And love the bob seger! I grew up listening to that stuff riding around in my dads ford pickup headed to sheep shearing jobs to help out. Love all your videos keep ‘em comin
had one of these in the Pontiac flavor. if it wouldn't have had t tops I would still have it, was a blast to drive, gobs of torque
Maybe it's just me, but I have seen you work on cars 5-10 years old with so much worse rust. Were they less rust-prone in 1989? Maybe the customer doesn't take his "baby" out in bad weather? And what are the odds: Seger's classic "Like a Rock," former theme for Chevy trucks, playing in a classic Chevy I ROC.
Happy Birthday Eric
I thought all IROCs and Z/28's from that era had the 5.7/350 with an automatic?
Love your video's Eric, keep em comin 🙂
Great video. I remember those IROC Z's very well. I was in college when they came out but as a poor college student, I couldn't afford one. I finally bought a performance car in 2013 when I bought a new 2014 Mustang GT. At 420 hp, it will get down the road pretty well.
Happy Birthday Mr O!
No 10mm?
Hi Eric. A classic car, Trinity, Mrs. O. AND your birthday! Sweet. Great video.
Nice that you edited out the part where you did a big ole gnarly burnout. MURICA!
does anyone else find it amazing that someone with a 3rd gen camaro would need a shop to change a radiator?
Takes me back to the days of beating up all the iroc's and firechickens in my fox body. I stole a lot of dude's girlfriends 👌
Those IROC's with the 5 speeds were fun to drive! Looks like this one is an automatic and a convetable too, but I too remember those things back in the day and always wanted one!
Remember the "IROC" racing series?? Oh, yeah.. I think I still had a mullet back then! 🙂
Great video I have an 85 trans am
I had a girlfriend dance on the hood of my Iroc-Z… to Whitesnake.
🎂🥳 Happy birthday
I had the 88 IROC 5.7 new and I made it into a 600HP SC-383/T56-6-speed beast with a six-point chromoly cage W/Schroth harnesses. Also chromoly welded in subframe connectors. It was set up as Pro-Tour before the term Pro-Tour existed. It was all done by about 1993. I even bought and programmed the DFI speed-density fuel injection box from scratch. I had to convert it from mass-flow to speed density.
Lowered with racing suspension and custom made Boyd wheels W/315mm wide rear tires and 295s in front. They fit inside the wheel wells too. It was featured in several magazines and was the 1st one to ever be converted form a TH-700R4 to a Borg WarnerT-56 6-speed. Centerforce had to make a Kevlar-puck clutch to hold the power because it burned up their standard racing clutch. Vortech SC and Lingenfelter box-ram intake , ported aluminum Corvette heads. Forged crank. Wideband O2 sensor W/on-dash bar graph rich vs lean indicator.
With 3.23 street gears and limited traction , it ran LOW-11s and could melt the tires at 60MPH.
People today do not realize those cars were MANY hundreds of pounds lighter than today's comparable cars.
Happy Birthday, Gods are trying to tell you something…. With that Bob Seger tune Like a Rock comes on for the test drive!🎉
Happy Birthday Eric.
👍👊🇺🇲
Happy birthday 🎉
Happy Birthday Mr. Eric O.
I had a good laugh with the Bob seger! Priceless man
Nice job Eric! Love those cars! Still got one (1991) here in the UK!
Swore I saw an Eagle 🦅 fly by.. blaaahahahaha 😂 omg that was an awesome video 👍 And Happy Birthday Eric! Hope it was fun and ya got all the gifts ya wanted! Peace out ✌️
Happy Birthday Mr. O! I didnt notice you use the funnel to bleed the air out of the cooling system. Are the older cars less prone for trapped air?
Ahhh back when GM was still made in North America!
First car was a Camaro, my folks drove it up here from the Bahamas. Didn't have any insurance and ran over an old lady. Luckily, dad was the mayor, and I didn't get in trouble.
I liked the reference to the big hair era.
Chevrolet use the song Like a Rock in the commercials back then. Neat video!
Happy Birthday!
What …….no obd , scanner , codes , updates , computers , sensors , brake clean or big nasty ? That’s it ?
Did I miss it you didn't say chey thunder what's up with that I guess that's when chevys where Chevys not the juck almost every car is now 😳😳😂
happy birthday Mr O !
Good job Mr o
Kinda reminds me of the good old J. C. Whitney catalog. 😁
I have an 89 t-top formula WS6, though it is not stock. But it still has the stock radiator, though it is metal tanks (I've owned it since 1997 so surprised the OE replacement you got was plastic tanks). I have a 5.7 LS1 and a T56 in it now. Running 2000 trans am dual fans, brakes on all 4 corners are from a 2000 trans am. Running a GM LS computer and a wiring harness I built. HP tuners to tune it. All gauges, AC, everything works on the car including the headlight doors and hatch pull down. It was originally a 305 TBI and a 700R4. The 350hp at the wheels really makes it the car it should have been, and the aluminum block and suspension gets the CG where it doesn't understeer.
I have a 1989 Corvette and it is pretty similar.
Happy Birthday! Nice work
I've driven my square body chevy's all 3 of them throughout rocks and mud and all of them still like a rock
Kind of refreshing working on a machine with a straightforward radiator replacement and the old Z/28 looked to be in pretty good condition!
It’s so nice seeing another clean third gen!
Shoot love the mountains love the pines love the car takes me back to my childhood long time ago that thing is a time capsule as always you sir are the best
Happy Birthday, Eric! Hope you have many more and enjoy them all. I feel like all us viewers are the ones getting a present though. Your videos are a hoot to watch and your professionalism is amazing. Truly is fun to watch as you impart your mechanical wisdom and share your knowledge. I really appreciate all the effort you go to do a good job for your customers. You are a fine person and a credit to your profession!!! Keep having fun, Mr. O!! Happy Birthday again!
Ok…
You get the +1 thumby for the Mollie Hatchet reference.
Chevy Thunder
Drag racers like to point out that these still beat a BMW M3 E30 in the 0-60, bucket loads of torque work great for pulling yourself out of the dig 🤣🤣
happy birthday you old fart hey them old steel transmission lines was aggravating but they hardly ever failed unless you cross thread them you dingdonk
Happy Birthday Eric!
too much freedom to enjoy for one man 🤘
Hope you have many many more birthdays with your daughter. God bless her.
I wish I still had mine but it had the 305
Good stuff
good job
Enjoy watching you in action doing what you must enjoy ! and Happy B-Day when ever it is !
Me and my buddy did the intake gaskets on his iroc last week. Tpi job like this one , what an ignorant setup . Did the plugs to and I ended up having to cut the plug socket down so it would fit because of the headers. Love to own one all the same, growing up I remember those cars
Happy birthday Mr.O
Holy Crap Eric, how long have you been doing YouTube? Your daughter is grown up now, what happened? Last time I see her I think she was playing in the bay while you were doing a W.U.W. segment. Wow time flys.
I hope you wore your mullet wig on the test drive lol
no ice cream stop? sad.
Merica
Just bought a rust free 1992 RS 305 with a manual for $1500. GM really didn't give a sh*t about interior quality back then.
I can remember when 2 sets of tools Required Standard set and a metric set
Didn't care for the Irocs! I was a Caprice Classic guy. Smooth drivings!
Hiya Eric
like aRock
I have this car but 91 had it 22 years now it chews through those crappy stock radiators like candy so a year ago I had a custom all aluminum race radiator built for it the stock held 1 gal of coolant the new custom one hold 3 and the car has never run cooler
Nice
I had an '89 white Camero. Loved that car. It was stolen out of my driveway and was never found.
"Chevy Thunder"
We had cars and we had music.
Crazy how things change. I get 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft in my boring outback I drive as a family car zzzz
Didn't the I rocs come with the 350? And as soon as I heard segar playing I saw the Chevy truck going over the rocks and getting air, car looks to be in really great shape too
My best friend owns a ‘86 Camaro that started out with a 2.8 now has a 3.4 in it. We both agree that when the 3.4 goes we are gonna swap into it a SB 350. It’s the basic Camaro nothing special, it did have a 700-R4 but it got replaced with a T5 global transmission when the 2.8 died. Very fun project to do with him almost 9 years ago.
Man! CD player called a tape deck (heard) , Bob Seger, and in an IROC Z just makes Willy T. Tubbs squeal! 😉 I am surprised NYS is not out there to arrest you.
Happy Birthday Eric🎉
What a fitting song 😂
Happy Birthday. Everyone I know is born in September.
Chevy was my bank I made lot of money on automatic transmissions and they were so easy to remove and replace never mind overhauling them I had them lined up. they kept may wrecker busy too.
Shoulda put the top down. And played Bob at max. You’d probably be in New Jersey by now. 😂
Happy Birthday to you ,Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Eric Happy Birthday to you! and many more!
I’m getting old…I was swinging wrenches at a Chevy dealer when those cars were new
You can't drive one of those without a mullet
this is like jay leno garage
Yup, if it wasn't for the General, we both would not be in business.
Say what ya want about the older cars, how many radiator swap today are this easy – I bet that radiator didnt cost an arm and a leg either, unless maybe from a dealer. Nice to find OEM, a sure fit – cant always get that from todays dealers.
Nice looking car. I own it’s younger sister, a 1998 Camaro Z-28, 6 spd manual, drop top. My 12 year old granddaughter (only girl out of 8 grandkids) claims it as hers in a few years. We’ll see.
"A car with two keys" 😁 I had to laugh out loud when you said that because it reminded me of the time I went to the local hardware store to have a second set of keys made for my old work truck. The young lady behind the counter asked me what the second key was for, and I had to explain to her that back in the day all cars were like that. It really made me realize how old I'm getting. 😐 Also I believe its a federal regulation that an eagle has to fly by when Segar comes on the radio. 🤣
I miss The Cold War!!!!
It was stupid that you couldn’t get the 5.7L with the standard transmission on those cars.
Awesome. Life was just easier then. Back when you could call a company and a human answered the phone. If you couldn't find something in the Yellow Pages, you could probably live without it. One of the only benefits of what we have now is being able to watch great videos, like this guy makes, on Youtube.
