BUILT FORD TOUGH!!
But for the axle acting as a fuse, someone would have died.
Redacted I never knew that word
Do you take pictures to show the customer as evidence of what is needed?
"Spread it out , shove it in…" Wait Ray, are we still talking about the car???
My guess before watching fully is they got water in the diff and didn't change the fluid but kept driving, wrecking the diff or an axle
Why do so many people neglect their cars when they rely on them is beyond me
I am surprised these people weren't driving on Maypops,
Proof not everyone should own a car lol
must be a lot of deaf people around.
JB Weld, good to go 🤣
It's amazing how people keep driving a car that's making so much noise you're going to kill someone like they lick your common sense people have no common sense when their cars are making that much rocket it's telling you that something wrong and they ignore and just Turn up the radio louder
They must have had the radio really loud to drown out that noise.
Looks like that Mercury had a Texas inspection sticker. I wonder if they drove it to Florida and never bothered checking that grinding noise.
If that is how they care for their vehicle someone please check on the welfare of any children and pets in that household!
did i see a Texas Registration Sticker on the Merc windshield?
also, i bet the lube plug has never been pulled since the Merc left the assembly line.
hope the trans and such are all ok. rear axle replacement is a heavy and dirty job, but quite rewarding when you go on the shake-down drive afterwards. good work, Ray.
if you do the left side,,you do the right..theres nuthing wrong with the hub..its 1/2'' thick..
I need to replace some rusty brake lines. What do you think of the nickel-copper lines? The lines are on a euro car and they use the DIN/ bubble style flair.
Had that happen on my F250😢
Holy shit! I got to say, I have never seen anything like this! Not a professional mechanic, but I’m hopping that this is not something you guys run across everyday!
I knew the build quality of the Panther platform (Grand Marquis and Crown Vic) was good. That axle just proved it. It’s amazing that the brake caliper held that together. I’m like everyone else, the owner must not have given a $&@// to ignore all that noise.
I guess, on the white car, it was driven till the wheel fell off
Prolly one too many neutral drops on that grand marquis. Lol
Seriously imagine the sound that Mercury made when that axle snapped. Dude must have popped a brick.
This is the day of Destruction, and YOU have been invited to fight the evil forces.
The ability for people to ignore noises like that made, astonishes me.
Well when it grinds squeas clanks bangs imma just figure yhe problem out bc I care bout others if ylal ignore the check engine light yourn oto nly putting your self at risk but your putting everyone else at risk that's why I check the grinding noises and other weird noises on a truck for others safety
These people are driving on the same roads your families are.
Wow
I'm thinking the reassembly on the Dodge Rear Wheel, Sans the parking break assembly would have been fine to drive around on until the parts came in. The noise was just all those components in the rock tumbler 🙂
If you don't have one already, you should start a wall of fame ( shame? ) to showcase these levels of destruction 😀
I'm a truck driver. There was one job I had where I had to share a truck with another driver. We each worked 12 hour shifts, so the truck sat just long enough to fuel it up. I noticed a squeaking sound coming from behind me. I wrote it up in the daily inspection report and let it go. Over three weeks, it got louder and louder. And I noticed it was doing it only when I moved and in either direction. So, I finally had enough and crawled under the truck.
The carrier bearing had failed and at some point had grenaded. The only thing left was the bearing housing. The driveshaft was rubbing on this housing, causing the noise.
So yeah. Don't ignore the grinding noise
Kudos for helping people with the worst vehicles ever manufactured, and they all seem to come from GM, Ford, and other manufacturers where the vehicles and/ or their components are designed and made anywhere besides Japan.
Sad part is many people up here in Upstate New York would buy that car as is due to there isn't any rust on it. 99% of our Marquis are rotted out and have been junked a long time ago.
Cletus Macfarland probably has a few of those rear ends laying around lol
None of the vehicles I have owned that were 100% designed and manufactured in Japan have had the endless problems that this channel features. Ditto West Germany. The only common denominator I can think of is that those vehicles were all made between 1988 and 1993.
Hey ray totally unrelated to this video but any update on the ox diesel additive? Still using it or is it just junk?
Wow, Ford usually has tough rear ends. She has been rode hard a long time and put away wet. Poor old girl. Dumb people. You can't tell me you heard nothing a long time ago before the carnage happened. I've never seen this before, thanks for the video Ray. I've seen plenty of rotors disconnected from the hub, but not this.
Amazing, judging by the state of
the tires, truck is maintained. Wonder if tire dealership noticed any play in the wheel when tires were replaced? What was the owner thinking the whole time the truck was making that noise?
Hard to believe!
Seems those cusomers had someone named Chewy in their family.
Let's leave a Dodge in 'your' Garage…
That merc has a 8.8inch rear diff with 31 spline axles and most likely a 2.73 ratio
What did you need an exploded view for.. you already have one!!
I'd definitely throw an axle on a grand marquis, i'd buy that if they dont want it!
That's how it is here in South Carolina people be driving around no windows wheels falling of but always has crack 😂😂😂😂
Don't put us under there either t shirt too.
The only hardened steel in a dodge is its owners brain…..
Who needs a parking brake
i would buy the "don't neglect your grindy noises" t-shirt. hahaha!
As soon as I heard that sound while you were test driving, Deja vu! Had a similar brake failure on my Dodge. The shoes had plenty of life left, the hardware springs broke and parts started rattling around.
What happened to the battery powered impact? The "brrr" sound it made was so satisfying. Especially compared to the air impact.
Big bucks to repair that
guarenteed wheel bearing was the offender on the merc to begin with.
Why change the hub? That's just a little scratch! If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I've had brake shoes wear down to the rivets, then turned the drum and slapped it back on with new shoes. Does any shop even turn drums and rotors anymore? I've rebuilt carberators with junkyard parts too. I've used a sparkplug file to clean up points and gotten another couple thousand miles out of em. I swear, people seem to have forgotten how to live cheap. These new trucks are like centrifugal bumblepuppy, designed to wear out and break so you have to spend more money. And marketed to convince Joe Braindead Consumer that it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Know what? I have a bread knife.
Do you want it hanging up a hoist for 4 days?? Sounds like someone said do i get a check today? Don't take it out. I want a check today.
Don't neglect grinding noises? My rear right wheel bearing grinds since 2017 xD Even the bearing on the other side grenaded but the right one ist still going strong x)
how the crap can someone kill a crown vic like that – and the REAR end too
Yeah, drive it like you stole it. That had to make some noise.
Little to much drama in this video….
When I see owners ignore a problem that leads to an axle failure like that, it scares me to even think about buying a used car. You never know what kind of person had it before you or what kind of hidden damage they ignored or patched up is about to blow up on you.
3-4 days out for RAM brake parts? As I Stellantis dealership tech, I gotta ask you… There's no way you're getting factory parts that quick right now while I've got a 3mo backlog of cars waiting or parts… right?
2018 F250. My parking brakes wore down to nothing, the pivoting piece seized. If I did not take them apart when I noticed the first noise, and the tons of brake dust, everything would have grenaded the same as that Doydge. It cost me new shoes, and some time, but worth it
I enjoyed this video.
does anyone find it strange that on a REAR DISC hub their is drum break components in it !!!!! like WTF is going on here
Too Roo Rooo What a mess you got on those two vehicles
Like to hear the behind the scene conversation.
So much carnage, so little time and parts
What really terrifies me is they're on the road with us. OMG. Can we smack these people?
I'm glad you're good from the storm. Hadn't been on youtube since. Your channel makes me relax after dealing with people in the IT department. Ugh. Have you tried turning it off and on again? No well try that first.
Must be that time of the year or something… A wheel fell off of my boat trailer just the other day. Outer bearing failure. Luckily no serious damage since it was on a back road going fairly slowly and not very far.
Did he just have rear discs replaced??
I wonder if Dodge ever will drop the second D? 2042 Doge Ram, complete with plushy synthetic fur exterior and wagging trailer hitch.
Jane Trudle used that sound effect. Please leave it to her.
Customer: "Id like a second opinion."
Ray: "Okay, you're an idiot, too."
How often do you get the other mechanics like, "dude! You GOTTA see this! Lol."
Who uses the parking brake anyway. Dodge is fixed, no parts required. Ship it.
I lived in Arizona for over 25 years and bought a boatload of cars that were sitting in back yards for YEARS (I did A/C so I was on a lot of roofs) and would knock when I finished my job and heard the same old story time after time "oh, that thar is a fordy or fiddy thousand dollar car and I'm a gonna fix it" as the wife or significant other is behind with fire in her eyes, so I would leave my card and more often than not I'd get a phone call a day or three later. It seems momma ain't putting out until he gets rid of that piece of s*hit. Gimme fiddy bucks and make it gone, so I called a friend that had a salvage yard and he'd tow it down and put it away in our secured area until I got the title transferred, then looked to see if it was worth saving or parting out. One of the things I noticed is that there is a BUNCH OF S*IT ON THE HIGHWAYS AND BIWAYS of Phoenix. Since we didn't have a safety inspection, but by the gods you WILL pass emission testing. Bald tires? No problem. No brakes? No problem. Missing doors or hoods or fenders? No problem, just PASS THAT EMISSION TEST. NO ONE repacks bearings, replaces brake hoses or other NORMAL things that any other state would look for on a safety inspection. If I decided to keep a car, I went through EVERYTHING and replaces, repacked and renewed EVERYTHING to make it safe and roadworthy. It was costly, but it was SAFE. I haven't come across anything like that Merc, but have seen some really trashed mechanicals.
Keep up the great videos. Sometimes you can't fix stupid and their stupidity could really RUIN YOUR DAY if it falls apart while driving and smacks you.
Glad you made it through the rain shower the other week.
Straight wacker.
Impressive failure Ray haven’t seen that amount of destruction in ages
Carnage.
That Mercury…
When he said “here is the right rear wheel”, I was thinking “liar liar pants on fire – that’s clearly a front wheel”…
😅
Wow, I thought the people in our area was the only ones talented enough to take their vehicles to that point.
I want to see what that diff looks like inside, lol.
Reminds me of a tuned up ford powerstroke that came into the trans shop I used to work at. They did rear end's as well and the truck came in because the driver was, um, doing something out of the ordinary, and sheared the shaft of the pinion gear (like 1 1/2" thick solid steel) and the pinion gear fell into the diff and slammed everything inside into one solid pile of smashed metal and locked the rear end up. Rear drive shaft was already removed so we put it in 4-low and used the front wheels to drag it into the shop. Basically everything inside had to be replaced, the housing lived through it though, lol.
That Mercury is a prime candidate for an entire Diff housing swap due to internal wear near the outer flanges.
Should be an easy job once a unit is located, possibly from a local wreckers.
Fubar big time on the Mercury
I've had several marquis and crown Victoria's and they are known to have extremely soft axles and should be upgraded to harder steel ones… as soon as the bearing even remotely starts to go the axle is worn in half
It would seem the most interesting parts were redactedLOL.
if you ignore the grinding noise long enough it will go away
That's sounds like a redacted conversation leading to toolbox wheels back on the trailer…
those floors need a proper clean!
Hey, is that 392 Challenger in the parking lot yours yet?
Don’t ignore your grinding noises is also a bumper sticker.
Hears a serious mechanical noise "let's go faster" 🤦♀
I used to go to live near the national school for the deaf. You could tell which cars the deaf were driving. power steering pumps whining, bad wheel bearings, everything noisy was normal.
To think we share the road with these people… but cars don't need no safety inspections… -_-
My God. How can anyone tolerate the insane amount of grinding that Mercury must've been making? And not only tolerate, but apparently assume it'll be fine and keep going for months like that?
At least the C clip held
I had the same parking brake incident on my 2011 Titan!
🐊🦅🇺🇲
I wonder if the Mercury owner is deaf? If not, that is total stupidity.
