  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ARednecksLife says:

That F-150, has what you call a Scotty Kilmer brake job.
Since we all know, Scotty Kilmer thinks it's fine to use compression fittings on brakes lines.

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Phill McKrakin says:

It's amazing how clean the undercarriage is on that mercury.

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars silicon212 says:

That axle came out of a Police Interceptor. That rubber strip along the bottom of the diff cover was a part of the solution Ford applied to keep the fuel tank out of those bolts during a high energy rear collision. The axle assembly is the same but the ratio is probably different.

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mitch Schwanke says:

When you were installing the junk yard axle, I thought that maybe you were going to finish the north or close out the video and say there will be a part two but you just went in a different direction without going back.

In the trade in the UK they are known as bi-hexagonal when mentioning them however one of the metalwork/machinework guys I watch called them a tri-square pattern. I was like…. erm … I see that now lol

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jeffrey Green says:

Brass compression union – good for water pressure bad for brake pressure. Whoever used that compression fitting on a brake line should be flogged.

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Spicoli1Bilek says:

So I know you're not originally from Florida but even up here in Indiana we have some Florida Tech. When we have to do this with Derby cars we use a piece of wood across the Dolly then set a rim or a rim and tire on top of that and Then we set the car down on top of that.

Ray, how do you do this with one hand on the camera? I can't even pour antifreeze with 2 hands without spilling it… you should be a brain surgeon.

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Uncle Bullhorn says:

Hey Ray, This is going to seem like a weird comment, but. . .

I changed my engine's air filter. By myself.

That doesn't sound like much, right? But I'm a cancer and stroke survivor with pretty bad PTSD and difficulty in handling new tasks, and I was never a car guy. So opening the hood is freaking hard mentally and emotionally. My brain can spiral off if things get hard or complex, and I seriously can go from good to crying in the corner in seconds. Recovery has not been easy.

But the dealership wanted $70 to do it, and I knew I could get a good filter for a fifth of that, so today I had the day off and went out to change the filter on my 2008 Ford Ranger. Watched some how-to videos, and thought I was ready. But someone had moved two of the coolant hoses so they made it hard to unclip the air box. I was getting frustrated, feeling it slipping away, then I look down and said.

"Ah, that's the mass airflow sensor."

You see, I've been watching your channel for months now, and I've learned from it, even just a little, and suddenly knowing what I was looking at allowed me to calm myself, re-center, and get back to the job. Once the new filter was in, it was a bear wrestling the air box cover back into place, and I couldn't see one of the two latches, but I got it done, and you bet your ass when I closed that second latch I said "click."

So thank you, Ray. You are doing more good with this channel than I think you can imagine.

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars MJB says:

Just when you thought you saw everything something like this wheel comes along. I spent a couple decades working on cars and saw a good bit of things during that time but it seems like every episode I watch on this channel I'm saying NO WAY at least once or twice.
    One time at band camp…..

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Tall RedEasel says:

So what are you going to be on Halloween?

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gromitdog1 says:

The 2nd unit is from a police car and the rubber thing on the bottom of the diff pumpkin is to prevent puncturing of the fuel tank in a severe rear end collision.

    Good videos.

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bill Milosz says:

When I watch your channel I see you disassembling suspension parts on vehicles with near 200k miles on them- and the bolts actually come loose! Here in the snow-salt belt, these fasteners would all be so badly corroded that what was once separate pieces of steel ( nuts, bolts, studs, frame sections ) have become fused into single masses of iron oxide, and any attempt to remove the fastener will just break the target suspension elements completely off the frame, or break frame sections into useless chunks.

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mikey D says:

    Ray living dangerous.

  48. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John T. says:

Trolley jack strapped to the axle is good enough for rolling a car around when it only has three wheels.

  55. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Shitbox Enthusiast says:

My 95 f150 brake system is solely saved by those compression fittings lol

  56. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gregory Fairchild says:

Typical compression fitting can hold up to approx 1200psi.
Then there's the black high pressure compression fittings that exceed 5,000 psi.
I've seen some lately try to say they're as low as 300 or 400…lol
They just want to sell more parts or afraid their techs won't get them tight.
I've used them for years with Zero failures.
You must get them tight enough that the feral bites into the tubing or it could blow off due to improper installation.
I've seen my share of loose leaking unions & fitting that also weren't tight enough.
I've used them in 1 ton trucks hauling loads with no failures.
I always hard stop check them a few times before returning them to their owner.
I treat every vehicle as my wife & kids are riding in it

  62. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Glen Grant says:

    👍💚💥

  63. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Eric Boudle says:

The rubber on the axle housing is to help prevent the fuel tank from leaking in the event of a rear end collision when the fuel tank impacts the axle.. A common thing on the Police Crown Vics.

  64. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jacque Jecker says:

That is a nice hodge podge of problems.

  76. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Buddy Smith says:

The "proportioning valve" on the Ford truck is actually a rear ABS dump valve ( very primitive rear antilock brakes on trucks in the early 90s all it did was dump brake fluid into I believe a spring loaded reservoir so every time it rear antilock brakes wood actuated the pedal would drift down to the floor like I said very crude). I believe the fan clutch is working as a designed they're supposed to be freewheeling at idle if the front spring on the fan clutch is not up to temperature the only time it locks up and it does it slowly is when the spring change this tension and it closes a valve inside the clutch fan and locks it up. You can also change the tension on that spring by moving it, sometimes there's an adjustment.

    Buddy

Back in 2016 I took my new Hyundai Sonata for first oil change, person who serviced vehicle was doing similar things with open hood on my car, when everything was done besides oil change I get two complementary uniform dings on my bonet from lights fixtures or some another object that is up in air hanging from ceiling. Anyway when Hyundai called and ask how is my first visit, they are little bit embarrassed with my experience, two day's later some service manager contacted me and asked to bring my car back for dents repair and make sure everything is 👍. I was not upset or mad, I just let things fix itself on it's own, sometimes you win when you let your opponents fall because of their own weight. 😉

  88. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Rob Kozina says:

not sure…. but fan clutches only lock up when they get hot enough to engage the spring..

  95. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Old Guy Does Stuff says:

I like this format. Lots of interesting bits and pieces that might not make a good video on their own. As to using the rim to move that Mercury/Ferd three-wheeled car – it's what I call the best bad idea you've got. And it worked. So there, haters.

  96. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Tony Brickner says:

I don't think you need to try any harderer to make good videos. It looks like you are trying the hardererest that you can. Seriously though, good stuff!
