This is the Subaru that we replaced the rear wheel bearings on in this video https://youtu.be/dVMssN-nDiY and it is also the one we looked at for an intermittent speed sensor issue in this video https://youtu.be/Zap6iQlMFUs. Well now it is back and the lady wants the front brakes fixed and we need to revisit the speed sensor issue because she is still having problems with it! I think we'll get it handled this time around though.

Hey there viewers and welcome back to the South Main Auto Show We are 2013. it's a cerebral Legacy It's got the big two five. It's got a spongy brake pedal. Some of you might remember this vehicle from a previous video.
We did the rear wheel bearings on this. I showed you the rear wheel bearing truck, how to remove my back of the Subaru uh when I got done with it the steering wheel's shaky and um, you know a customer requested it. We did the rear brakes which those were pretty smoked on this. There's some issues going on with the front brakes, we got to look at that.
but some of you may also realize this vehicle is from another video before that video and that video was on an intermittent problem. So this lady has issues with this thing thrown on the money light with the PO 500. I Believe it was a speed sensor problem and then if you check in the ABS history, it has a problem with this left front wheel losing speed signal evidently. but every time we drive it or at least when we drove it, then it was working fine.
You know we're driving down the road. I'll reference that video I'll pop it up behind the screen. we'll leave it in the description or anything so you guys can re-watch that. Where we drove it, we noticed you know the bearings are bad and the muffler is loud and the front brakes shake and the pedal spongy.
But beyond all that, we never got the wheel speed sensor to drop out or glitch so we gave it back to her and she drove it for for a while and then the lights been on and off and it's been just kind of intermittent. So here we are. we're going to have a look at the front brakes. We're fixing the car up mechanically for her.
so you know the mechanical brakes are good. And my thought is both front wheel speed sensors are the same and every time we check this sucker, it's working. and then you know you can drive and drive and drive. and go back and forth.
The ice cream store 100 times. It never quits. Give it back to her and you know a week later it'll eventually come on. So what I'm curious is is can we swap the front wheel speed sensor side to side? Um, if they come out if they don't Well, I don't know.
we might just take a guess which sounds ridiculous and just put a speed sensor in it. They're relatively inexpensive, they're cheaper than an hour of my time, if that makes sense to you. And the only reason I'm considering swapping them is because we're going to be right there. What's that going to prove? Well, it may prove that the problem is in or isn't in.
You know, the speed sensor. I've seen issues on these Subarus where aftermarket wheel bearings have issues with wheel speed sensors and setting off codes. She claims that they haven't done this one. Her husband put a CV axle on it, but that should be, you know, Irrelevant.
So anyway, all that being said, let's get after. let's find out why the punt the Punji spedle this pedal's spongy and have a look at the brakes mechanically. see if I need anything. it may have a bad master cylinder I Don't know. let's get toward Parts see what's gonna need and then see if we can swap those speed sensors. these ones are looking pretty Rusty Crusty. Oh the pads are seized up or what I did not drive it before I brought it in. Let's get a 14 mm.
let's peel this off, see if the pins are good and the calipers any good. at least I Think it's 14. Yes sir, grab the 14 and a 12 just in case. Okay, that's going the right way I think so.
Oh, that pin's good. That one feels like it's got a stiff let's slide this little guy off Pistons are pretty Rusty Oh super Rusty knocked out though. we'll stick that up there. This upper bottom pin moves.
upper pin saying not today. let's have a look at these pads here. Pretty uneven wears to be expected so you can see just for example tickets here for example. like we're down lower there than we are up here.
so she's sitting in cattywampus like that and that's because this pin moves and this pin doesn't Therefore, you know the caliper is going to be seeds. it's always going to want to kind of off. Let's see if this thing's wow. Here's a guy: I Can't use a pair of adjustable pliers.
Oh yeah, she's tiger tight. Pads are a little eased in the brackets. not too terrible. seem worse.
pet shot. obviously. The thing that concerns me though, the amount of rust in these Pistons I've seen where these little suckers will Rust right straight through Hondas are notorious for this. This is a superher though, but you can see the amount of rust coming out of the caliper Pistons Um, if in it were me, I'd be putting a caliper on it and we're out by the customers.
So Calpers or caliper pad rotors. let's pop the other side. Probably have a quick peek I Heard of doing that though. Let's see about getting a swivel socket and pulling this bracket off.
We can take the Cotton Bowl that one right here with the 17. Oh, it might be a good top one. That one wasn't too terribly tight. I Don't want a chance I Want to strip the head off it? Oh, come on fella, that strut Bolt's right in the way.
It'd be easier to do that one with the wrench I Want to get this up? Um, let's knock our rotor off and let's have a little look at the speed sensor. what's up Miss though it was 11 o'clock the same carry your children. Oh okay, just letting you know you're late for work. let me go back home.
Am I Fired no Can I you're higher. You go with no. lay it off for a little while. Nope.
dang it. foreign folks. Lawnmower man saw that we were making a video so not to disappoint. he fired up the mower.
You guys sure likes mowing lawn Let's uh, see if we can very gingerly. Oh crack this little guy loose I Don't know if this speed sensor will be willing and to come out probably not typically in the People's Republic of New York We do not touch speed sensors. as a general rule. we're gonna give this one the old pallet strike. I may have to move you because I don't think I can get in here. You gotta move almost son. switch pliers. oh would you look at that I Think you can't get my head back here? Oh look at me, look at me.
Go! So we got the speed sensor out of here. On the right side is not the suspect bad one. This is our known good. Wait a goddamn minute now.
I See where this has been rubbing right here. This side's not even a bad side. I Don't know if you guys I Can't see the viewfinder but this one's been rubbing and that is on the axle side. There's a fair amount of rust build up on this little fella.
Let me look down here in the hole looking in the hole. I'm pretty 99 certain the magnet is on the uh bearing side, so I'm wondering this one has some Rust jacking on it to the point it's actually scuffing it into the CV axle. I'm curious to knows if when we take the other one out if that is similar. maybe it's just a rust jacking issue on that side might be double locked up on this side.
Okay, this is why I changed the CV axle then because it must be the boot was torn. see all this old cow for Grease or not calper grease. but CV axle Grease yeah as I say I thought these things were double locked I can barely move that one. This one negative so looks like our safe bet is to do both front brake calipers.
That's gonna do pads of course because they do shake like crazy. but this caliper also has a tremendous amount of rust in on the back of the piston. Huge flake, scaly rust in there. But when the seeds, seeds, pins and stuff I'm just going to say we're gonna do.
You know, patch orders calipers on the front and we're going to swap these speed sensors. Well let's see how this works. Get on here and see if we can't. Oh, crack that one loose I Have no idea if it's going to focus there for you or not, but you'll get the general idea of what we did over there over here, providing this one does the same thing over here as it did over there.
Usually it's at that point you hear them go snap and they break off. oops. Easy fella. Look at that would you? would you look at that? I've got a bunch of junk.
There is a bunch of crud on there, but I do not see where this one has been rubbing. This one is rub free because the other one is rubbed on the axle side. Interesting. Lots of rust build up there on the hole.
I'm gonna drop a bunch of junk down there. proceeds to fiddle with it. What we'll do is, we'll plug that hole off. We'll clean off all the rust and crap up here.
Maybe we're just looking at an air gap issue, folks. Maybe at this point I won't swap them side to side. I Usually like to do one variable at a time if I'm trying. uh, Triagnostics and then we'll go from triagnostics to swaptronics and see what we do.
I Think that's what I'm going to do. Executive decisions been made. We're going to stick an ear plug in there. We're going to clean all the rust off here because perhaps the way that that one's flexing over there and the amount of rust that's on this one. Perhaps we're dealing just with an air gap issue. Um, so let's do that. Let's get the brake parts coming, plug the holes, clean this crap off. stick these back in.
At that point, we'll have to let the lady take it because, well, we'll drive it just to see, but we'll probably have to let her take it and then report back in. You know, a week or two if she still has issues. Well, believe it or not, Napa has all the parts in stock. Blows my mind.
Nap is an acronym for never any parts available. Uh, let's see. Let's see. Get this all.
Get the dirty deed done when we're waiting for them. Thank you. Go ahead and pull our caliper off there while it's hanging right here. 12 mm.
Remove the bolt of Benjo right there. Let's give this a couple. Wiggles Oh, we're missing the bucket dude and this will continue to drip so you may want to close your eyes, look away. If you're a little squeamish.
we're gonna very lightly pinch the brake hose. Uh, other options are to stick a valve stem in there that'll plug it up pretty well, or push your brake pedal down and hold that down if you got that kind of time. or if you want to pull the fuse out of the brake lights. I'm not a big fan of doing that because a lot of times I walk away from a car when I'm working on it and I don't know when I'm going to come back to it.
So I don't like the brake light time the whole time I'm going to take and get the bolts here for our core so we can turn that back or nap. It shows up again. I don't know if that's gonna Focus I Got the camera pretty dang close to it. We're gonna see if we can't clean up a little bit there and get as much as we can with a busy wheel.
an ear plug. Down in the Hole Oops. Whoa. Dover deep didn't mean to do that.
We'll get it back out though. The main objective is covered though. A lot of the outside rust inside. We have to go home.
Old school foreign. Wow. I think we got it. Use the Venturi to give it a little a second.
Pull that out. Let's go get some wheel bearing to grease. There's some grease out of the grease gun that's smear on that to keep that from getting so crusty. I'm gonna slip that baby back in.
Today's Grease Gun Goober is building full synthetic, not a sponsor, but that's what happened to be in the grease gun today. The grease gun. You don't use that tool much anymore. Let me tell you.
Stick that back in there and get a little grease down the hole. Doesn't matter, That's all we're gonna take it from this down. Got the torque spec on that? Slightly tight. Let's wait for our parts.
Here we go folks. Got our rebuilt caliper from the Napa. Let's see if these are tight little dark, tight so we'll have to knock them off. All right. Okie Dokie is this moment. sounds like Lunch is ready Buzz these off Anytime you're getting a used or I mean rebuilt caliper, we've got to check everything and typically before I get too far check everything. by that I mean like all your threads like this, can you thread in the banjo bolt? Are the threads on the caliper bracket? Good. That's always good to know.
Hate to get this thing all together. Find out these look like they're all chowdered up. Of course the banjo bolts in this one. So just just some good advice for you.
if I could give you any and always check to make sure that they actually lubed the pins and didn't just smear some lube all over the boots. That's always a good practice. All right. one's got the rubber on it, looks like she's nice and greasy so we'll leave those alone.
The hardware that it comes with is usually really crappy. Hardware This stuff plus it's not the right hardware for this. I mean it's the right Hardware in a sense at it that it fits. Uh, don't get me wrong, but it's wrong in a sense that it's not the 100 correct stuff.
100 correct stuff should have little wings on the side. Okay, you have to look in service data. Never take my word for anything. Uh, they go on the Leading Edge So this is as the rotor spins like Pretend This is on the car rotor's spinning this way in the forward.
Direction the Leading Edge that's where this side goes because that's where the and I drag Clips on the pads go like I say you'll find all that in service data. so we're going to put a little grease behind our clips. These brackets are all powder coated I don't know who does them for Napa Now I don't know if it's BBB or it's Cardone or would as they switch off. Napa is continually switching suppliers it seems.
which kind of sucks because then what they'll do is they'll go through and do a big re-boxing. They'll take all their stuff out of boxes and put it in different boxes and then it's a freaking disaster getting parts for a while because everything is mixed up now. I'll give you a free tip on these little fellas down. On this side, it has the little pads ears sticking out mcdarn tooting if yours are designed like this that you push this middle piece in.
Okay, trust me because a little half is. it'll catch on this little guy. Okay, you just gotta trust me folks. I'm not saying this is gonna go smooth, but it's gonna go in there that one's not catching.
They should move nice and free and easy down the road. I Go let's see that one moves free and easy. Bean boom Look at that. We got a staple in there.
Where'd that come from? This looks good. I Got a piece of paper in there. We'll take that out. Come on.
Oh, and the other thing you should check is make sure it's the right bracket if there's any identifying marks on it. Casting marks, anything like that? It's too late at this point, Fella: Very sorry putting it together. We're going to grease that up. We're going to dab some grease on our piston faces here. Hooray! Flip this little guy upside down so you can keep it from popping apart on us. Put our bolts in it. Ah great. One of our pads popped out.
See if we can get it back in without taking it back apart here real quick. Like? yes sir. Whoa. Whoa.
Almost built my water, run these down, but not tightening them up quite just yet. We'll hang the bracket on the car, get everything hooked up. we'll torque it off factory specs of course. Lots of long-winded one different copper where she's on there.
This Guy's first day ready, tighty fella. and then first I'm gonna go eat lunch with a very low. This is all standby. What's the? Dover Teeth are brushed.
rubber bands are reinstalled. The dentist finally got rid of my spacers and now I got these stupid rubber bands. He thinks you're gonna carry these with me. a little sack of rubber bands? Go on my braces.
they're Pain Put in when you got big meat nugget fingers. So if you're ever in need, take a pocket screwdriver a natural Little Hook in it grinder down, sterilize it with a cigarette lighter and that's it. You're good to go. That is a handy little tool for putting on your rubber bands that new braces.
so you just stick that in a toolbox and someday we'll use it for something else. Uh, where were we? These are on finger tight I Think yes sir, let's go stick this out of the car. Guess we better stick our rotor on there. First, there were little Spritz of the film.
Slide that little guy up on there, grab us an axle nut. we'll stick it on the stud just to take up space and then we'll thread a wheel nut on just to hold the rotor. get where we need it. Grab some liquid blue.
Loctite We'll take our bolts. oh too much on that one. What's up Mr Miss me already? We just ate lunch together I Don't believe you. Okay question for me.
Like a deep, intimate, personal one. Yeah, okay, can you hold it thought for a moment trying to do this one by feel. There we go. Gotti And then we'll get this top one.
Now that one started and then we're right here. We'll do our banjo one: moisture on the inside, one on the outside of course, Make sure the ceiling surface is nice and clean in the extension in the socket. Appreciate it. Perfect.
Perfect. We'll take it. We'll run these in I Might use his hand tools by showing the people my tool I made for my rubber band? No. I saw my nasty little teeth I Want to gross them all out? All right.
There's that. We need to torque those down. But first, let's torque down the banjo bolt wrong way fella. So we'll torque this right to factory spec that one's Factory Smack! Then we'll grab our 14. you know this is holding still for us now. These are like 19.9 foot pounds I think. remember correctly that one start and then the other one. we laughing.
What? Go ahead and test them. this one I think is 88. ftlbs's there. it is.
something noisy I don't know how to make this noise. probably could Ah that's it'll son. we just gotta go get Mrs o who's conveniently out here right now and uh, get her blood out not Mr Dole with the car ain't gonna bleed the outfits though. Don't worry, that's good.
we have a little shoe wrapper there. Oh never mind I got are you ready there? Mr though uh well. go ahead and pump the brakes up for me if you would because I've already gravity bled them out. Should be getting somewhat stiff.
Yeah, yeah, okay. ready. now. shouldn't be much air in them here.
Up down up, They're not getting any air rideable down up down there. We'll call that one good. Usually gravity. Use your words, fella.
Use the gravity. bleeding. Uh, worked pretty well. Let me go hop on the other side here.
I Need to make sure our fluid's full. Check it before you start bleeding. Obviously these reservoirs are not very big. The rear brakes on this vehicle are also brand new, so we're going to fill it to the max line.
All right. take her for a rep. I Got the wheel speed sensors? hold up there? Oh man. this lady's going to send herself through the windshield now.
No, that's funny. Let's go around and burnish in our brake pads. Ladies gonna love this. Let's bring petals right at the tippy top now.
Take much folks if you're If you've got a spongy brake pedal, don't don't always just go. You know, sling in a master cylinder at it or anything like that. Fix all the brakes mechanically first. so the pins, seeds, pads.
You know any anything like that. It doesn't take much to really get a ton of pedal travel. Besides, you know, air in the system. Obviously it's right now.
that's all four wheel speed sensors about there now. Granted, this still may have a an issue with that speed sensor. you know, getting hot going open circuited. You know something like that.
I Only wanted to change one variable at a time with the rest. Now when they're intermittent like this, it's very, very difficult. and I hate just shotgun and parts at it. but strong possibility.
Freaking saw it. Hallelujah That's the first time in a long time that's wonderful. Look at that. That's all it takes is that one little bit.
I've looked at the connector on this thing so I know it's not a uh, a connector issue. The pin tension on it's good. I'm gonna order me a sensor look at that. well at least we know it'll come out.
and the good news is we don't have to, uh, tear anything apart just that one. Bolt and don't have to take tire off. throw up on the lift. now.
we gotta wait for this lady. Okay, oh, isn't that something? I'm glad that we were able to finally see that we were together. Wow, what a moment! That's it folks. Uh, good news. We got to see the sensor finally go open and drop out. It doesn't have anything to do with having rust underneath the speed sensor and and changing the air gap anything like that. We just essentially had a loss of signal and Dakota is shown in the C0023 because now I can see it I didn't have to look at the first video which Defiance as open or shorted the battery left front ABS Sensor We know from previously looking at this vehicle a while ago that you know connectors, pin fitment, all that stuff looks good. So either we have the very rare circumstance of the ABS module itself crap and now, or just a speed sensor that's going funky.
If we wanted to be 100 definitive, we could swap them side to side like we originally thought. give it back to the lady, let her drive it for a while and see if it comes up with the right front code or what I'm going to do at this point is I'm just going to order one from Napper who has one in stock at Niagara Falls DC and have them send it down to us in the morning and I'm going to put it in I'm gonna totally have a nice day and see if that cures it because that's cheaper than doing anything else and sometimes you have to do that. So call me what you want, but don't call me late for dinner. That's an old dad joke comment section.
folks questions, comments, concerns, Put me your best dad joke down there. I Like reading dad jokes and uh, just remember viewers, if I can do it, you can do it. Thanks for watching foreign.
Changing only one variable at a time is a great troubleshooting rule of thumb, but it should really be about changing only one dependent variable. In this case, if you had cleaned the seats and swapped the sensors, there is no situation where the outcome is more ambiguous than if you did them independently. If you did both and the problem never came back, you still know that the seatment was the problem, and if the problem did come back, you know if the problem is following the sensor or not. As it is now, all you know is that it isn't the seatment. There could conceivably still be something wrong on that side of the car that isn't the sensor itself.
You mentioned in another vid I watched recently book time for some of your services. Being where you live and the extra steps you must take to deal with the rust…your labor times should be billed accordingly from what I can see. God Bless you for dealing with that on a daily basis
Im curious as to why you don't do new hoses with the calipers?
Where does one get that fancy wheel stud cleaner
I love Mr O, he does great work…but theres a lot of things on his brake jobs that could use work.
Always clean rotors with brake cleaner. They have coatings on them to prevent them from rusting. Always re grease new slide pins because i know for a fact there isnt enough grease in there. You don't need loctite on caliper bolts, ive done thousands of brake jobs, never used loctite once. Brake jobs are so easy, they don't need to be complicated more. Grease the shit out of slide pins.
My wife was recently kidnapped by a gang of Mimes! They did unspeakable things to her!
There’s a guy I know has an 08 sonata and he had a caliper replaced a while after he asked me about a noise, his brakes were metal to metal on that side but we’re fine on the other, turns out the new caliper one of the slide pins had a bushing on it and caused the slide pin to seize
The factory torque spec!!
Dad joke; Mike Tyson and Chris Hemsworth were working out together. Mike Tyson says to Chris Hemsworth. Hey, are you gonna be Thor tomorrow?
parts in stock means common problem
Does mrs.o make lunch for the whole shop or just you and fam?
This kind of stuff is why I like your videos. All the things you should do to make the repair. Spending time on cleaning up rust was a waist of time. The job only calls for this much time. These are things I was told from a shop manager I worked for. I had a car with no ac once that I found damaged wiring harness that was wrapped up in the cv axle. I was told the time I took on the repair didn't make enough profit. Although I had a happy customer because there ac worked. The shop couldn't make the money they wanted to make. I don't work there any more.
I’m coming up on needing to replace brakes on my Outback. I’m inclined to buy the parts from Subaru. Is the good Napa stuff equal, better or worse than OEM?
…Never, hammer in a brake pad like they do at RRR, down in the Florida lands of no RUST… LOL
Me: I badly need to clean my room. My Dad: Your room is already badly cleaned.
Your wife is the stuff of dreams, Eric. Must be a great partner to have, also you both got an awesome sense of humor.
I don't know how accessible the speed ring is, but with all that dirt on the sensor, I think I would have tried to clean the ring up as much as possible.
I always look forward to an Eric O brake job video…and your torque wrench😁
I've broke a speed sensor bolt, can you make a video on how to remove it?
Here’s a dad joke. Why does a chicken coop only have two doors?
Because if it had four doors it would be a chicken sedan.
You haven't made a video where you go to the junkyard and pull used parts for a repair. I really enjoy that kind of video.
How do you start a pudding race? Sago – I'll get my coat…
Axel grease on the tone ring?
Speed sensor hole, I use brass gun bore brushes to clean up the hole
Eric, never a brake video i don't enjoy. Always learn something new!
Man those are some wild architectural homes.
I had a bad sensor under braking cause the steering wheel to pretty munch self steer during braking. That was on a chevy 3500 van.
I'd say fire her, but not with that nice dress. My wife needs one of those.
Beautiful.
Nice to see the always charming & attractive Mrs. O make an appearance. She definitely adds a touch of class…. I mean your channel is GREAT based on the tech content & your down to earth & very friendly delivery. It's absolutely among one of the BEST of its type on Youtube. It's just nice to have a lady show up in the videos from time to time. I'm really surprised other "gearhead" channels don't do that. I know it's not planned & Mrs. O. just shows up….
How about we get rid of this vehicle?
I mean I have owned beaters for specific reasons like teenagers and new drivers you knew were going to crash and total.
When I was in college I worked at a SOHIO station (Standard oil of Ohio) . We were nicer, NAPA ment not all parts available
The 516 miles that it shouldn't have covered in the first place if it failed emissions surely? Im sure it happens here in the UK too, but you'd get in big trouble if the police found you driving it. 🤔
I end up doing more tryagnostics than I like to admit simply because it will cost 3x as much to prove/find the problem definitively In fact I have a fuel tank psi sensor on order right now I will check the connector, pin fitment, and gasket as I install it My cost was $20 the labor to drop the tank and test is $200. I offer the consumer the option and explain the labor is the same either way; the most likely culprit is pin fitment/corrosion OR a bad sensor would you like me to install one while I am there or not??
Another great SMA production by Eric O! Never get tired of seeing all the rust problems you have in NY! We down here in Florida are quite the opposite.
Eric O gets the good comebacks. A come back for more business at South Main. I haven’t seen many super rusty caliper pistons in my time. They must be designing parts cheaper now days
what’s the attachment on the air hammer he uses for the rotors? or is it just a regular bit
I'm in the UK and we salt our roads in the winter but I have never seen rust like you have on cars you work on. Even 50 year old cars don't seem as rusty. What exactly do they put down on the roads there that makes cars rust so much?
Or better than swapping sensors Eric O. Swap pins at the Ecu connector 👌
Is this what makes the pedal spongie, frozen calioers?
Just heard a dad golf joke today. I hit a double eagle on a par 3.
Nice ball cap!
Very envious of all your bolts on this job Eric – been doing my Ford Transit 350 erm…. dumptruck to you and every one of them was either seized solid or done up to fabulous footpounds so it made no difference. I could also give about thirty years – if you'd have them, getting down fairly easy but need a hoist to get back up!
Eric! It was special for me too.😉
Can you not get calliper repair kit in the U.S.A. like we can over the pond?
This message brought to you by the American Dental Association.
It amazes me how much customers like these Subaru's regardless of how many repairs they require. And rust—my shop is in Md but get them north of here, whew—-God help you. For vehicles that are marketed toward the North and harsh environments—-.
Awesome. Those Scooby things have bio degradable fames and bodies man! They rust out here in West of Scotland!
Excellent job as usual
Dear Eric – please wear Hearing Protection!! You are going to regret not doing so – later years from now. Even a small drill requires hearing protection. Impact wrenches… come on. Protect your ears. I have hearing damage – and have always worn hearing protection. Sometimes foam ones; with ear muffs over that… What would my poor ears be like – if I hadn't?? I use hearing aids now – at only 68 years.
We got our Subaru Outback 5 years ago and it's time for a brake job. Living in Michigan ,the brake pads were froze up and worn down to the REPLACE line. I know the next brake job will need replacement calipers, thats a given.
What do you get when you cross and elephant and rhinoceros?
Did you hear about the mechanic that got addicted to drinking brake fluid?
He said he could stop any time he liked. 😂
You were lucky to get those speed sensors out in one piece. They've got an awful habit of bloating and getting very stuck in their holders.
Nice job again fella 😊👍
My dad joke, what’s brown and sticky…….. A STICK
👍👍👍
You said it was serviced by her husband, well I wonder what he overlooked in the effort to save money.
A witch's vehicle goes brrroom brrroom!
I'm afraid of speed bumps, but I am slowly getting over it.
had a dream about being a muffler. I woke up exhausted.
you see a crime at an Apple store, are you an iWitness?
If the early bird catches the worm, I'll sleep in until there are pancakes.
I used to hate facial hair, but it grew on me.
Spring is here! I got so excited I wet my plants!
Talk is cheap until you talk to a lawyer.
Why are spiders so smart? They can find everything on the web.
Wonder if Meemaw taught him that earplug trick
Dad jokes? I think that was a sensor-ble way to do the repair 😉
How do you get a country girl’s attention? A tractor…
Eric snap on makes a special thin swivel socket for those subaru brake calipers. Not one of the tools you have to have to get the job done but it is nice. Part number: BTCS1
Thank God I live in the southwest.
… Just don't call me late for dinner…. my pop's fav saying stuck in my craw. 😂
Cant you see all the cows and sheep have gone to bed?? Well yeah, because its pasture bedtime!
I vouch for the fact that anything mechanical wrong with the brakes can cause a spongy feel. Happened to me with the previous owner’s pad slap and glazed rotors.
Dad joke my dad told me today:
What is the german word for “bra”?
Stopemfrumfloppen
When you were talking about the pad clips, As the Rotor Turns sounds like a repair shop day time soap. 😂
Not a chevy???
Unpopular opinion: if we didn't salt the roads there wouldn't be that many more crashes
I would assume there's a bare spot, rub through or even tiny knife like slice/pinch somewhere in the bas wire and full of greenies deep inside! sometimes they're the devil to find the spot in case of sharp plastic slice through or plier pinched, but salt water always find them. 🥳
Eric, what do you think about the People's Republic being one of 7 states who plan to outlaw the sale of new fuel powered cars and trucks starting in 2035?
not a sponser
2.5 Subaru 1997 – 2012 if it's for sale you better ask when the head gaskets were replaced and what type of replacements were used. Because they all need it. And the stock type head gaskets will fail again.
The "pungy spedal," Eric? Years ago, Archie Campbell did a sketch on "Hee Haw" about Cinderella and how she "slopped her dripper." Of course, you are probably not old enough to remember that. Well, maybe.
I could never understand how the pin could seize because they have a rubber seal on them and are greased. I always pull them out and grease them every time I do brakes just to make sure they are good. Again, another a small part that the manufacturer could make stainless steel since it is an essential safety item.
Orthodontix ??
this ladies gonna love it😂
That isn' t the lady that got took buying a Subaru is it? I know the video recently where you welded some stuff and easily removed the bearing. I am wondering if this is the point where you say, "Please don't bring it back" like other people I know. GREAT VIDEO!
"why did you break my car, how dare you". 🤣🤣
Be careful Eric, remember "happy wife, happy life" do not upset she who must be obeyed
Idk about Subaru but on freightliners you can unplug the wheel speed sensor from the harness and set your meter to ac voltage. Should get a reading on around 1 volt ac pretty quickly as soon as you rotate the tire.
I'm so glad I don't have to worry about rust anymore. 30 years in Arizona has spoiled me. Keep up the good work brother.
A pleasure as always
Eric, Soooo glad we spent that special moment together….haha! Mrs. O, you’re as lovely as always. I have a question for ya, are you not doing home school for your daughter in the shop anymore? And is the Lawn tractor boy not breaking his machine anymore? Been awhile since we saw them. Oh, almost forgot, I saw you sneeking that watermelon in, save some for me , especially if it’s refrigerated… oh yeaaa!
I never watch you fight with rust what I am not grateful to live in the south
Don't recall if you looked at the timing lugs on the bearing. New doesn't mean New. Lol hope its good. I would look to see what was hitting the other sensor. I'm sure you do that off camera. Keep getting Nevada phone numbers for DM
My dad joke Son I stood up for you today someone said you like crap sandwiches I told them you don't like bread.
Is there a chance to activate air bags with uggadugga air hammer?
Please list the name and/or part number for the deep radius sanding attachment you used around the axle studs.
Eric, snappy makes a special wobble socket to get those upper caliper bracket bolts out. Comes in 17mm and I hear there is a 19mm in the works!! Stay safe out there!! Great Vid! Who makes that amazing file you were using?
Excellent video! Loved the description of the pocket screwdriver dental tool!
The only thing that would have made it better was if we got to see what you had for lunch :). That said, I’m sure a little down time is good for the soul.
I'll tell you Eric I have a 2013 Outback and after doing front control arms (having to remove the front CV axle) I ended up having to remove the left wheel speed sensor. Since then, it gave me the P500 code…so I swapped in a new sensor but the problem continues to be intermittent Very weird. subarus are weird sometimes..
Proving once again, "Its not just what you do but how you do it." Always a pleasure watching your videos Mr & Mrs O.
OK Eric, a "Dad" joke. I'm 10 years old (1957) and Dad says: Tell all your friends at school that "Reg. U.S. Pat. Off." means "Made in Russia." Well, being 10, I believed my father, and
went to school to spread the wisdom. Oh, the laughs and the ridicule, even from the teacher.
That was my father's idea of a joke. His humor always had a hook in it. In time, I learned not to take the bait. Eric, don't you miss the days before computers, sensors, etc., when the most mysterious thing on a car was the PCV valve? I sure do. Remember timing lights and dwell meters? I still prefer drum brakes. Yeah, I'm a dinosaur.
My experience with Subarus has been that their grounding sucks. My 99 had a antilock brake module code and refreshing the ground at the module fixed it. Subaru does not remove paint under the ground connector and depends on the bolt threads to complete the circuit which is usually chalky. I take a dremel and remove the paint on the sheet metal connection and run a tap through the threads to clean out the chalky stuff, wire brush the bolt threads and put Ideal noalox on the bare metal to protect from rust. At this point I do this to all grounds. As seen in an earlier video here chassis ground straps can deteriorate and should be replaced with the same treatment. Grounds are half the circuit.
@SouthMainAuto Dad joke – How many tickles does it take to make an octopus laugh? Ten-tickles
I had a dream about being a muffler, and I woke up exhausted
