Start it quick. Follow up on the F-150 with the brand new Remman engine and knocking noises on Startup 2004 Ford F-150 with the 543 valve Triton Customer stated knocking noise on Startup brand new remanufactured engine. replace the cam shaft phaser. They said it'll make the noise go away they said and I think it did but it's been running for a minute and I Come over here.

It's not not much better. You hear it. tick tick tick tick. Take it.

Who is the rebuilder?
Have a friend that had the motor in his boat changed out with a rebuilt from a major rebuilder. Cam went flat after 5 hrs running. Got another one same thing. Used a different rebuilder for the 3rd motor, and that one worked. He never took possession of the boat for the first 2 try's, the boat shop wanted to make sure it was broken in right.. LOL
What an over complicated piece of junk engine these are! If they had (could have been allowed to) just keep building the “tried and true” old cast iron pushrod engines, things would have been fine and everybody could have been happy! But, no!

That sounds like a timing chain tensioner and chain rattle until it gets oil pressure
Oil starvation somewhere. That engine life juice isn't getting somewhere. That is my thought. Take it for what it is, and I could be wrong. I have been before.
I had a 1967 F-series 352. I started the ticky-ticky at 35,000 and tried oil change and heavy oil additives, but the noise continued. I brought it to my area's most experienced high-performance mechanic; I'd worked with him on many projects, including CC heads, sizing cranks, decking blocks, and planning heads. His diagnosis was cam and lifters. We'd already skipped toothed the transmission, so I went with the repair. On startup, the ticky was still present. So, disassembly of the front to block had to be done. I did this after my typical workday. I Had everything off the front of the engine, including the timing cover; the ticky was there but even louder. It turns out that the fuel pump return spring had checked out for a visit into the oil pan; the new pump and ticky was gone. The mechanic was baffled and refunded me.
There's something wrong with that engine it is not the cam phasers this is a symptom of a much larger problem hell maybe it's just a bad oil pump but it's not cam phases

I’ve been watching your channel for about a year now and absolutely love what you do. I do my own oil changes, but I find it very interesting to watch you do repairs on other people’s vehicles
All those whining and ticking noises are just the bearings and such, filing each other down to match. That works best when running only a quart of oil. That way the metal can wear down faster.
Then when you change the oil to remove all the filings, it will run perfect with new oil, since everything ground itself down to match its adjoining surface.

I put a reman cylinder head on a Saturn, and it ticked like that for a couple weeks then it just stopped and never came back. I did have to take the valve cover back and reposition one of the rocker arms that slipped off and retighten everything, but that wasn't the noise issue. I never bothered investigating the tick after it went away.

Not related but interesting. I had a 1998 Ford F150 with the 4.9L 6 cylinder that rattled on cold start. I came across a TSB that said to change the oil to 5W30 instead of 10W30 and I'll be damned if it didn't fix it. Go figure.

Endurance plus insurance equals total car protection. Lololol 😂🤣 This happened to my brother. He had a 2012ish Chevy Impala with a clumsy transmission. The warranty company tooka month and a half to "repair" the car with a junkyard transmission. The shop asked my brother to pitch in money for new gaskets on the transmission because the warranty company would not pay for them. My brother got that car back and his wife traded it in for a new Camry with a 2.5 Liter 4 cylinder, the best possible outcome.
If he paid with a charge card, at least a good one, he has enough evidence now to dispute the entire cost of the engine. No telling if he he would win, but worth a shot. Sometimes companies are so poorly run, they do not notice the dispute come in, and after 30-45 days it becomes final and you keep the conditional refund. I'm pretty sure at that point the option for them to come after you with collection agency goes away as it was agreed "arbitration" by accepting charge card transactions.
Feedback – As a non-mechanic, many of the recent injector videos were beyond my understanding. I appreciate that this is effectively a vlog so the videos reflect what comes thru the door. This does mean that I’m starting to lose interest which is a shame. Hope that you will take this as polite constructive feedback. Thx.

Ray the all is in the warranty’s court now you have everything on video. They will tell you what they want you to do. Make sure you get paid for your work and take their money. They are doing the diagnosing. But the key is getting paid for your time spent. The wax paper wasn’t a good find in the engine. The oil pickup tube could be half clogged. Next video taking off the crankcase pan. The trouble with this remanufactored engine what did they fix. A short block or long block crate engine from Ford factory. Have a good day Ray
Man that 3 valve is so junky. It’s sad because the 2 valve triton is such a solid engine. Mine has 320,000 miles on my e250 and will probably rust to death before that 2 valve quits 😂

From what you showed in the previous video, it looked to me like the y rebuilt it with aftermarket cam phasers which are a common defect in themselves. Who's to say the cam followers aren't aftermarket as well. BTW, most common side for the followers to fail is the passenger side.
make them pay you for the sprocket change and get that car out of your shop. Not your warranty, not your problem.

If I was going to replace this engine it would not been the 5.3L 3V as from my research all 3V engine had the same issues, but that is my option only.
That customer got a lemon. It won't make juice affectivity.
I know that you do great work and seems that you diving into this with your thumbs cut off. Being at the mercy of the warranty company which sucks. I believe that there are more serious issues with this reman engine. I wish you could give this poor customer another reman engine that you pick and send this piece of dung back to the company that rebuilt this engine. I know that you would not do this customer wrong in whatever avenue you pursue.

Why didn't they have you check the chain tensioners or the gaskets for said tensioners? If the cam phaser was bad I'd think it would make noise all the time while running.

I’m getting the feeling this is a Jasper engine. They used to do good rebuilds, but then their quality went to hell. And when you call them, all they do is make excuses.

All they are doing is giving you a hard time so you will give up and move on. This is were people need to be sued but lawyers won't take the case because there is no money in it. And the company who rebuilt it knows this. Sad I but the customer eats this who job.

I have a feeling that company is going to stick you. They’re not going to pay. Someone my wife knows had a very bad experience with an engine rebuilder. Wouldn’t guarantee it after in was towed to the dealer. 6K for the engine. 2k to diagnose the car. 8 K total and no running car. It’s now a lawn ornament.

Back in the seventies and early eighties, if a ford had a tick it was running right. Try to take the tick out and the motor ran crappy.
I would have to walk away from this truck, it sounds like it might be something worse than lifters or camshaft phaser. Triton motors were never that good.
The clicks could be bad lifters. With ford’s 5.4 especially, a full set of lifters should come with every cam phaser.
I made the mistake on my own 5.4 in replacing a full timing set & HO oil pump without lifters.
A tank of gas later and a lifter came loose causing the valve keeper to pop out and drop a valve into the piston.
Expensive lesson.
They say that noise has to do with piston slap. I have an 04 5.4 (had since new, original engine) makes similar noises and has 344,000 miles on it. The only oil I run is Castro gtx 5w30 and try to change the oil every 4,000 miles

All in all, I just feel absolutely terrible for this customer. You can tell he really wanted to make the truck last many more years and many more miles and look how clean it is inside too! You truly hate to see it man. It'll be a HARD lesson for that poor feller. I hope in the end he can get the issues fixed because we know this Warranty Company isn't even worth throwing to the dogs.
Ok most of what I’m hearing is an exhaust leak that seals itself when the manifold warms up …there is a slight tapping under the passenger side valve cover…I don’t know if you’ve tried breaking the motor in yet but I’m clearly hearing an exhaust leak on the driver side…guess that number 3 rear stud (that breaks routinely) is important after all 😏
