what a waste of money. i dont think ive ever seen a single legit dyno sheet that showed any gain with shorty headers
Chrome bailing wire, awesome!
Putting lipstick on a pig.
<3 just my 2 cents here but i seen quite a few car mechanics videos on youtube.. but genuinely just for some reason ray seems just hit the right chord with me…idk why but he just does <3
also i would like to humble brag (in a extremely nice and fair kind of way) hopefully someday about getting a little shoutout in one of rays videos…you do you <3
Welp, this has cured me of thinking about headers on my Mustang… Major PITA, for a little bit of power, propensity to crack and burn through… Thanks for a great video, Ray
The best details. Excruciating for you.
those were the wrong headers for that truck …. did t need all the curvy action
Don't you have to reprogram the ECM to account for the change in back pressure?
I enjoyed the video until the end when I saw the piece of flimsy wire barely holding on to the ugly piece of heat resistant stuff wrapped around the header tube, not to mention the awful bolt as a spacer (use a smaller length bolt). Sorry Ray but not this time.
Why you don't use antiseize paste for exhaust bolts…?
I have bbk shorties on my 2016 ram. I find that I'm chasing exhaust leaks on it constantly. Putting in remflex header gaskets on my next go around. I'm hopeful that takes care of it.
Header installation afterwards run her HOT and while still running 1/4 turn each bolt…not too tight or you'll snap one..never worry about bolts loosen up after that .
And try not to burn yourself, welding gloves for a torch work wonders
"This is Boss" man your showing your age.
Your videos would fall flat if you didn't talk to your work and parts and yourself. How you keep your composer is amazing, if it were me the videos would have a warning xxx adult language, turn your sound off.
Wouldn't it be easier to use a shorter bolt?
I'd mark that bottom bolt on the collector. Take it off and cut off 1/4" and then re-install it! Not to mention shutting off the truck so it won't be so HOT while working on it! LOL
Priceless – Watching Ray, with 10-times the toolbox storage us mere mortals have, but no pair of duckbills or safetywire pliers (snappy has some), and spending more than 60 seconds twisting wire. If you need to justify the cost, it twists wire real shiny!
The person that owns this truck would have been better off asking to have OEM manifolds installed.
Dee bris… like a snippy snip snip
I would like to see you do this on a hemi car instead. Correction… I'd like to see the pain of you doing this on a charger/challenger/300. Correction again… I'd like the pain to be expressed via a video of headers being installed on a hemi car.
Putting headers on a stock exhaust?
I only see one problem on the passenger side. The flip back tube is still going to radiate heat on those cooling lines. Oops, sorry I spoke too soon. Lol Great video!
He called you Ray-cist.
I spent a couple of days last week working on a Ford and found myself using an open ended spanner to rotate an obscured bolt 30º at a time (rotating spanner between each 30º). I thought to myself, Ray must know a better way. Apparently not. 😉
I had less trouble installing TSP 1-3/4" long tubes on my '01 C5, crazy.
Those rubbers hoses not going to survive more than 2 years , if the owner not seal taped those rubbers , you should wrap the rubber hoses not the pipe header 😂😂😂
I really enjoy watching this channel, thanks Ray for all the challenges you capture and edit up so we can all follow along.
I quite often wonder if any of the owners of the vehicles you work on ever watch your videos? Personally I'd love to watch footage of a great technician working on my vehicle.
Keep up the excellent work and content Ray, its so appreciated by so many 🤩
So glad you took us along on the test drive.
Header suck go stock
My nephew put a set on his 2012 Camaro and had the same problem.
"more goodier" I love it…im a health teacher (at a private school) and I use this phrase all the time my students love it the English teacher hates it because the students are starting to say it now
that dont seem worth the aggravation
Dam good job Ray.👍👍
I’ve dealt with headers several times and I’m convinced the manufacturers never try to install them.
Trim the bolt….duh
I'm stunned…no, SHOCKED…that Ray doesn't have a set of safety-wire pliers! They would have come in handy for the exhaust wrapping and made really professional look to the finished product. And, I saw the bolt/collector interference comin' a mile away! Next time, just cut it to the right length, Yo. LMAO
I want you, Ray, to have a wonderful day……..
Just watching him put headers on makes me wonder why???? Anyone would wanna pay Big $$$$ for the headers and the Labor to,put them on a TRUCK??? I can see if it’s a Trophy Truck or some other pure competition type truck but a regular street pickup??? I don’t get it!!🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
„I never had much of a vocabulary. In fact, my friend Bob Schneider would still be alive today if I'd known the difference between "antidote" and "anecdote". He got bitten by a copperhead, and I'm telling him funny stories out of Reader's Digest. His head started to swell, I said "This ain't working."“
It's always the bottom ones that show leaks
Ya know, about those wrenches you are promoting… Looking at the great difficulty you, a highly trained professional, are having using them, I am not sure me, a mere mortal armchair YouTube professional, could ever hope to properly use one. Can you recommend something with an easier learning curve, possibly from the playschool collection?
Unless those gaskets are designed like what they call the Detroit gasket it will leak
I thought it was dee-briss.
This looks like no fun…
Although we're thinking of doing this with our 2017 Ram, since we've had it to the stealership three times within this last year for broken exhaust manifold studs. 😬
I'm sorry, why is one pipe on the headers looped exactly??
I recommend getting pair of Safety Wire Pliers. They lock onto the wire, then spin automatically when you pull on the back of them. Don't know how often you would need them doing automotive work, but you can get a serviceable pair for under thirty bucks. Cheers -Sean H
when customers ask me to install headers, I make them sign a waiver that they arent going to call back every 2 weeks that "the repair you just did is leaking again" and if they do that they are paying me my hourly rate to go back in and re torque
Metal zipties fix everything you mean 😁
What is the value of those after market parts? Engine sound?
Back in the day I would install the headers for my buddy's 1969 Ford Cobra with a 428 Cobra Jet engine. It would be an all-day job to get the bolts and or allen head bolts in and tight around the boxed in shock towers and get them tightened up. He often pulled the engine to make changes and would always have me do it because he did not have the patience to do it. I even bought a finishing tap to make sure the threads in the block were clean and could be finger tightened as much as possible. Fun times.
With firsthand experience of how electricians trim zip ties, I'm extremely grateful you have flush cutters.
Those wrenches don’t ship to Australia
Love the videos. My only suggestion is to use header wrap. Always a go to at work. Keep up the great work, looking forward to future videos.
you make things look so simple that anyone could do
I think we're all Raycists here 😛 It's a happy header set.
I did something like that once. Fighting a bolt that wouldn’t behave, do those tiny turns when tightening up. Turned out I was cross-threading the bolt on the brake caliper. Whoops – lesson learnt.
Ray listen here son, you sound like a good kid. There's only one God. No such thing as car god's
it is de briss
I'm late but hell yea 45 minutes of great video
A complete waste of time and money. It is much like putting lipstick on a pig.
Installed a set of headman headers on my cousins 2004 ram 4.7 1500 and had an instant leak too.. for me the passenger header front tube they completely forgot to finish the weld from the mating face and tube 🤦🏻♂️ good think i know how to run a good bead
is that Evanescence in the background?
I have done so many engine swaps and rebuilds?
Laying on a sheet of ice stabbing a transmission in held up by a 2×4 sitting on paint cans…
Can’t believe I enjoy watching your videos?
Very entertaining, thank you.
Watching you fight the wire, I'm thinking why don't you use lacing wire pliers?
Shameless Promotion deserved and accepted this time….
My patience box isn't near as big as his. Not me!
Stainless steel zip ties are a thing!
This Guy is AMAZING
Ray, You know they make stainless steel zip ties.
My wife was in the room when you talked about the two finger treatment. She just looked at me and we both burst into laughter. Thanks Ray! Love your commentary, especialy when it gets a little off topic. 🙂
MAybe also shorten the heater hose above the bend, to lift it up?
I call debris Deborahs and it drives some people fuckin crazy 🤣
I still for the life of me don't understand why people waste there money on these exhaust !
They should have wrapped them before they gave them to you
So now we have to call Ray Ray the patience of a Saint and, Ray the unstressable. Now I know you haven't got a Dynamometer strapped to your right leg, but apart from not making blowing noises did you think the sculptured headers did more than make it sound nice?
Everytime I've had to pull a motor, I've always decided this is the best time to put headers on.
Thanks for the video Ray. Keep the good content coming
Looks like a engine out app to me
Would hose clamps on the header insulation be better instead of wire? Love your videos.
HEY RAY WHAT STATE DO YOU LIVE AND WORK OUT OF JUST CURIOUS. I WOULDN'T MIND IF YOU WORKED ON MY VEHICLES BECAUSE YOU SEEM TO KNOW YOUR WAY AROUND MANY TYPES OF VEHICLES AND YOU DONT GET CUSSING MAD WHEN SOMETHING DOESN'T GO RIGHT.
Tight ass job
It’s ok for the two part I understand thing happened when you work on cars
what do those headers do? increase performance? HP? torque?
I would have preferred shortening the collector flange bolt versus an oversized nut for a spacer. In the end, the bolt did not take advantage of full use of available threads. This is especially important for aluminum. Use of a couple of ss band clamps to secure the exhaust wrap would have presented a more professional finish. Otherwise, a very good upgrade.
you cant do that!
YOURE HAVING AS MANY PROBLEMS AS BIDEN IS TRYING TO RE ELECT LOL
I installed a set of those headers a few months ago. Lucky for me I had the heads off to remove the MDS system, replace cam, lifters and install am edelbrock supercharger.
Kind of brings me back to the first time I replaced broken exhaust manifolds/ cat converters with siezed and broken studs in the heads of an early ford escape 3.0l.
Ahh.. the memories!
Dumb question: You talk about witness marks often. Why don't fasteners come from the factory with marks?
You guys listen to a lot of evanescence down there.
I think I would have just cut 1/4” off that bolt in the beginning and be done with it. In reality I know the struggle is real and the brain develops a fog under such circumstances.
638th! GOOD EVENING RAY! BOY HOWDY! YIPPEE! Roger in Pierre South Dakota
I thought it was a law that you had to beat flat spots in at least 2 tubes to clear stuff, and cut the exhaust pipes in order to match the collector outlet angle. Hard to believe the manufacturer had the outlet angles correct. I believe that was about as bad as some timing chain jobs!
Should of wiped down the headers before starting the engine, because now the finger marks are burned into the headers
You offended me with your shameless plug, I'm a blue haired gay lesbian trans who identifies as a blue haired person she he gay lesbian pronoun inducing blob of goo they them and you should pay me because I'm offended with what you said in that video I was watching? Anyway, you understand. People need… Cosmos…. Understanding… Uhhh… Stuff…
need to cut threads
