Customer Customer States Mechanic Fails Engine Transmission Gas Diesel off road race 4x4 street car daily driver scam dealership dealer technician how to

2019 Ford F-150 4x4 It's the Lariat package with the 3 L V6 diesel. We're not going to key it on for the mileage because the batteries are disconnected and uh, we won't be able to retrieve the miles, but it's got approximately 82,000 M on the odometer. This is a public service announcement to everybody who's got their vehicle in the shop. I Want to explain why you should never, ever ever show up to take a look at the progress on your vehicle until it is completed because sometimes there are things that you just can't unsee and this is definitely one of them.

Yeah, look at that brand new truck and it's all over the place. I've seen car accidents that weren't this bad, but no, seriously. uh, on occasion when you have heavy Line work going on, this is what it looks like and if you're the guy that owns the car and you walk in and see this, you can't unsee it and this image will be forever burnt into your skull. Uh, which ultimately makes you have less confidence in your truck.

At least this one's got the cab on this time. Sometimes you walk in and you see this entire mess and the cab is like 4T up in the air and all you see is a rolling chassis and a truck bed. That's why the service department is really far away from the waiting area cuz you just don't want to see this stuff right? Cody That is correct. Say hi to this is Cody Cpce garage check out his channel on YouTube I'll put a link down in this video's description doing 3 l stuff 3 l stuff.

Yep, he's the 3 l Master It started off with the timing belts and uh well, he started off on the three ler Journey with the timing belts and now we're putting in engines cuz this one is blowed up need and it's blowned up a lot. It's a Canadian version, you can tell from all the the corrosion everywhere. it's just 4 years old and the thing is pretty rusted out. but we have a brand new fresh unit from Ford Motor Company Right now we're transferring over components and hopefully by the end of the day we can get this thing set back down inside of its mounts.

and then, uh, sometime next week we'll get all the the rest of these little pieces put back together body parts. Over Yonder Yeah, we got to make some progress though cuz it's taking up two stalls and I'm going to need one of these and look and look over here. The dreaded Ruisu is back. Another yeah.

this one's doing Subaru things. The valve covers that we just replaced the gaskets are leaking again and I don't know why, but we're going to do the valve cover gasket job again cuz sometimes you just got to do it twice. Hopefully that's going to be one of those situations where we don't have to do it twice cuz I don't think Cody wants to do this again. Hey, are you ever going to do this with the Cab on again? Oh no.

Cab off? No Cab off Forever? Yeah, Cab Off? Yeahhuh yeah. I Don't blame you. Yeah, that's A. that's a lot of meticulous operation right here is a lot.

Mhm. Alome. That's how it is sometimes. at least it's not a turbo job that's got to go in afterwards.
Yeah, oh, you can't set her in there with the turbo on it. Well, we kind got problem. Yeah, it's not going to fit. Yeah, we've got broken bolts.

Didn't account for these things snapping off so we have to order another set of studs. That one already broke. a couple on the other side broke and we have, uh, not very much confidence these ones are going to come out, dump some candle wax on them. I'm going to help him clean up some of the stuff that's sitting around real quick, clear up some floor space.

Uh, this reminds me the other day made that video about those broken axles and folks were commenting about how much of a waste it is and it was unfortunate that all these car parts end up in the landfill and uh, that's actually not true. You see all this stuff inside of this dump trailer right here. None of this goes to landfill. This all gets recycled.

We will take this to the scrapyard and then they will take this to a processing facility and they will melt this down and then create new things out of metal because metal is 1,000% recyclable. Yeah, that's the thing most shops. uh, recycle more than a city block because, well, scrap metal is worth some money. It's It's not a lot, but uh, it's enough to justify hauling it down there, turning it in, and then recycling it so we don't throw metal and stuff away.

So when you guys see these car parts, you know, and there's all kinds of metal and bearings and uh, you know random whatnots inside of it. That stuff is, uh, not trash it, just, uh, well, it. it's it. goes back into the pool of the circle of life of metallic components and then we'll melt it and make more components.

Take this, uh, tin can. uh, engine block. For example, we melted down a million tin cans or aluminum cans and then we made this sport engine out of it. Just kidding.

Cody We yeah, we know you like this engine. Who knows what it made out of? it's made out of? H Oh yeah, it's made out of rebar. So there is one thing. I'm wondering about this situation.

Why? Why is the coolant drain bucket on top of the transmission jack so the coolant could drain while I was taking everything apart? But it was it up here. It was off in the air. Oh okay. okay.

I'm like that doesn't make any sense to me, but now it does. Okay H Multiple things time? Yeah, yeah. I'm trying to clear a space here I would like to uh to nose my truck in on this fine weekend day and uh, do some work to it I've got a steering shaft over there that uh, where is that steering shaft? yeah, right over there on the Shelf you see it right there in the corner I've got a steering shaft I want to put in and maybe if I can get around to it I can switch out uh, my driver side exhaust manifold. The factory manifold has this really nasty divot in the middle of it and it causes a restriction on these first two cylinders.
Uh, plus this thing has a a bung in it right here where I can hook up an exhaust gas temperature probe and once I get that probe in I have a uh, a plug andplay tuner. It's a B Banks module that I would like to install but I need to get the manifold on before I get the probe in and I need to get the probe in before I can really really use the the tuner. So um, and I can't do any of that until I can make some space. I'll probably I'll probably just work on it right there.

Where the Mariner is the Uh: Cody's hybrid Mariner hybrid. It's a hybrid. It runs on electrons. Okay, so we're about red eye to get this thing out of the box.

Uh, The problem is that's a big pallet and it doesn't fit in here. So I need to go fetch the forklift to pick engine up off that pallet to move that thing. So let's go fire up the lift and uh, we'll get that thing moved. I was going to work on that, but now I'm I'm getting sidetracked to do other stuff.

Power on. Climb up in here. It's loud. The concrete guys are doing concrete stuff.

I keep calling them concrete guys. They do countertops. Yeah, it's alive. Good parking brake.

actually. you know what? we'll go around that way. Swing this thing around here. Cody's fetching a chain out of the truck.

That's a pretty long one. There should be a shorter one in there. it's all rusty. They all came from Uh Tractor Supply and there's a short one and a long one.

and the short one which is not here I Think that one's shorter. It doesn't matter. Yeah, that one's fine. Yeah, the one that was prepackaged from traction Supply rusted out and the ones that came off the spools did not rust out.

I I Don't understand. And the the packaged one was actually more expensive per foot. Oh, we can just than the other drive it from the hook on that, can we? Yeah, Oh okay, let's just do that then. Well, thanks for digging through my box.

I Guess we're going to find out. Driving along in my forklift mobile, it's not mine. Yeah, let me close the door over here real quick. I'm trying to close the door.

It's totally going to work. A forklift certified? That's great. Do I have? uh, clearance for that door right there? Maybe go up a little bit more I think Okay, we need some more up action here and it's time to swing it all the way to the right. How are you looking up there buddy good.

Tell me where to go straight up. okay, coming down other other way down. is it hook in? Yes man. I don't know about that here.

Let me go up with it. Watch your flang. careful I Don't know if that's safe? Hang on. let's park this unit.

I Don't think I like that dude. I mean I'm all for some sketchy stuff, but that's uh yeah, that's a that's not going to work I'm not. That's no sir. No no, no, we're not going to do that.

Ah, redo. hang on here. s this thing down. Yeah, we need to chain that up.
Yeah, that's not going to work. We got to put a here unhook it. Let me raise it. Yeah, we need to put a chain on there or or or check it out.

Look we can. Loop we can take this off and just Loop this guy right through the right through there. that'll work. Safety That's very safey going to need a tool to help us.

Let's see I choose these pliers cuz they were the closest one. What? You beat me to it. One all the way over there for nothing. Yeah, we'll just use that.

uh yes, words maybe. um is that going to it? Went down there way down there. Get it? At least it's I See it. Hang on? I Got the flang.

My flanges are shorter. you have larger flanges than I Do there? she is. Got it. Uh, where do you need to go? We need to go down, down, and then back and then this way a little bit.

right? All right? Hang on. We'll start with the down and the back. I'm going to do all three of them simultaneously. Reverse: How's that down? Little more down.

Got it? Is it in yet? Oh good. Yeah, that's way more safer. that's less sketchy I Like it. Now we're safe.

Moving up. Where do you want to go with it? Just out in the middle of the floor just where I can get the engine on. All right, let me back her up. Are you clear? Watch your toes I'm not going to drop it.

It's brand new engine coming down some more. Uh, what's under it? You want to put it piece of wood under the pan? Yeah, let's do that. I don't want to smash a an oil pan here. That would not be good.

Yeah here, let's uh. let me go up with it. Stick this block of wood under the pan for safety. Is that? uh, bottom pan flat? Kind of? Yeah.

Come on guys. Yeah, it's kind of flat. We can put this one here and then a 2x4 under the edge of the uh, the bottom pan. Yeah, Grab a 2x4.

We'll do that. E I got Theo on me. How's that looking? Put it. put it in the backside like under the bolts.

That way it's not pressing in the middle of that flat pan. You know what? I'm saying. Yeah, we'll do that. Coming down.

More down, more down, more down. Watch those flanges. You ready? you? good? Oh yeah, we don't want that course one. All right.

All right here. Give it a shake, make sure it's stable before we unhook anyways. I know. Okay, okay.

cool. We got all the protection. Multiple layers of protection. Okay, well that was good.

excise of fun mhm my side. Excellent. Cool. Okay, let's park the lift good.

Hey, you think I can open the door with the Boom H There's a good I'm not. do it. There's a good chance you could. Got it? Okay, so we got some of this uh, stuff cleaned up and cleared out and I was going to put this manifold on my truck over there on the flat stall and I started going through the box of components and I found that I do not have the gasket that goes here and I do not have the man fold gasket I thought that stuff came in the box and it does not.
So um I can't do what I wanted to do today and I got one more hang up here. Let me show you guys the reason for this manifold is I wanted to install a thermocoupler for Egts and the reason that I bought this particular manifold is it had a bung in it in order to connect a thermocoupler. But the problem that I ran into is this little adapter right here. see that's a that's a collared thermocoupler right there there and I don't have the right size so I either have to get an adapter, get another thermocoupler that fits inside of this hole.

this is 1/8 uh Npt threads or I can get a a 38 Npt tap and drill and tap this thing out which I'm I'm probably going to have to do that so I'm I'm going to end up just drilling out this manifold right here and then putting this little adapter in. that way I can install the unit that uh that came with my my uh my tuner I'm just I'm really sad because I I wanted to do this today and I can't and I'm not going to weld it on that's not going to work So I'm dead in the water with this project. So now I got to got to check a a trip to Home Depot and see if I can't find a tap and a drill bit in order to uh, drill and tap this uh, particular thread size right here. So that kind of has stifled my reason for coming to work today cuz I can't do anything that I thought I was going to do and that's actually my fault for not checking the box I figured that this manifold would have come with the necessary Hardware to at least install it I was going to I was thinking maybe I could just take the uh, the other one off, put this one on, and get that steering shaft on but that uh, that was also a failure cuz I didn't open the box like I should have and I did not examine the components within.

So fortunately this is just my stuff and I don't have a customer waiting on it because if this was a a customer's uh situ situation here than that I would have uh I would have failed them and I'm glad I did not fail my customer I can fail myself all day but not other people standards, you know, so that's going to go back on the shelf for later. Looks like my manifold is going back on the shelf for later and I have to go to the Home Depot so I can do this maybe next weekend. So sad Ra put that up there where it goes. So I guess I'm just going to keep helping Cody put this thing together for now.

Uh I don't think I have anything more to offer you in this particular video. it's a little shorter one. Uh, it's not really a work day so we're just tinkering kind of. uh.

Anyway, let me know what you think about this whole situation down in the comment section below. Do not forget to tap that like button while you're down there and most importantly, have yourselves a fantastic day. See you guys later in a video. End of planning failure End of weekend in a transmission.

It’s actually pretty easy to get the cab off these 15-20 F-150 trucks. In our shop (I work for a dealer) it takes us about 45 minutes and the cab is off.

In the year 2000, I was working on a 98 Cadillac sts. The car had been blasted and the driver's side. And I had to replace the whole side of the car, the roof, and the floor. The lady who owned the car walked in, saw the car, and freaked out. She started screaming at me. She went off on a tirade, and a rant, screaming about how she was going to sue me. How she was going to sue the company. Wow, her boyfriend said, we didn't need to do all of that to fix the car. She was expecting that I was going to break out Bondo Billy tactics….. And hose the entire side of the car with fiberglass. She got in my face screaming at me. Breathlessly ranting. When she ran out of breath. I asked her….. Ma'am….. How did you think it was going to get fixed?

This is not the same as that. I had to cut the whole side of the car off, to fix an accident. You have to take the whole freaking truck apart…. To get at 2 bolts.

I don't know who's bright and genius idea that was. But if I was an executive at Ford motor company. Somebody, would be in the unemployment line….. Right now.

But that is exactly what happens, when you allow the automotive dealership association of america, to get involved with the manufacturing process. That is exactly what happens, when the country of california, takes it upon themselves to tell the manufacturers that they have to start building trucks out of unicorn farts and pixie dust.

The lesson here is… The next time coming for you tells you how to build a car….. Tell them to get fuct.

I've been building cars for 30 years. And that is the most ridiculous, thing I've ever seen. There isn't no way shape or form, this should be accepted as normal. This is not normal. That is the epitome of stupidity!

My 1974, f100, I can do everything I need to do under the hood of that truck, with a screwdriver. And have plenty of room to walk around. Ford motor company is not, moving forward.

    They're running around in circles.

Suggestion, since you are going to drill & tap the manifold, why not drill & tap the old one. Save the💰. All you need is gaskets.

Looking at the general amount of white dust you have going around in your yard, some of that is going to be blowing into your shop, sucked in by the large extractors you put in the wall at the far side. But how you'd ever be able to screen it out is another matter entirely! The office is probably the cleanest place.

At the former Windsor engine plant and foundry, they melted down scrap right there. My dad's last job there was working the scrap crane. I worked there for 6 months in the foundry and six months in the engine plant for university money. $4 an hour was good money in 1973. Foreman in the foundry asked me if I wanted to stay. I said no thanks, going back to school, cause after uni, I made a whopping $10-13 an hour.

Hey Ray, just letting you know, you're never supposed to turn that clevis bolt all the way in. It is supposed to be turned in all the way and then backed off one full turn, that is to keep it from seizing in the clevis.
