In this video I bring you along as I have a look at a customers Buick Encore with the big 1.4. Customer complaint was intermittent blower (A/C - heater fan) motor operation. The diag was easy, only needed a test light. Changing the motor is another story.... Why Gm, why?

2017 Bureau gets the Encore It's probably got the big one five. All right actually. first car the day I've had it's actually freaking broke. Frustrating today folks.

let's see. Uh, no blower motor in this fella. So I have the key on right now and blower motor is on high. Nothing happens.

Had to take it for a test ride because I had to. He had some other complaints look at that address too, but this one is one we're going to look at while it is still broke because my day has not been going great today. Let me tell you what. So we're gonna take this little panel down.

not going great in the sunset? I'm sick of people bringing cars in that don't have real problems, just just frustrating. AF Ghan Freaking three in a row today. Gosh. I don't mind checking out something and I'm discovering that unable duplicate the complaint.

but the more you talk customer find out like this is not even a real problem. you just wanted to come here which is super hella annoying. I think I'm gonna change my method to just know YouTubers period. Local far just because it's getting super obnoxious or I'm just gonna start charging some ridiculous fee trying to testimony at you.

but some days just piss me off. Okay, let's see what else is held in up there. I Told him this on up here feels like something. What a thunder.

Oh oh you stink pot! Chevy They threw a screw way up in there I Know you guys know that we have actually got to put that screw back in I Don't know if we can get to that little sucker. we might have to get a little extension. This one is totally by feel I can't see that one. You may really expect you to put that back in, Huh? We will.

We? Well don't worry. So I don't know if this is just a bad blower motor or the controller for the blower motors bad or what. All I know is this car is broke for real I need to get some make me feel good. One screw two screw.

so you got these three screws right here look like that. you can't see what is there we are. it's a blower motor lip down here and it does. Got this thing in the way.

the blower motor controllers are here. okay easy thing to do is get a test light I grabbed the uh use scope in case we've got a test a little controller. I'm gonna go get a test light. Whoa.

This guy can hold his hands steady I'm trying to do this right on. stick my face in front of yours in front of used guys. So there's the negative. There's the positive.

there's a red, there's the black. Full speed, it's up on high. Let there be light. and I saw the light and I said it is good and we'll kick her back to number three, number two, number one and life is over and going back to high speed.

So it looks like this thing needs a blower motor that's a 7443 bulb right there. I Think they pull a couple amps, turn it back off. That's it. Wow.

We'll give her the old furniture. Really here? Hey, Oh there she do. Yeah, this all right. Well, that was an easy one.
Even though this was simple, it was really broke for real. Z and we could actually diagnose it so we don't need a controller. We need a motor. As they say down state good, good.

See if we can find one bad blower motor. right? Right? Easy. Undo some screws not on a Chevrolet Apparently you gotta Chop It Off What the frick. You gotta cut the thing out.

Had to order this. Un obscene and priced hit. They call it a blower motor kit from GM because the one that's in here is molded into the box. Why? Because that makes sense.

So then we've got this one here. Oh I'm pissing and moaning. so they must have adapted these since. Service data.

So service data: You're supposed to buy this ring. it comes with a ring and all this crap when you cut the other one out. This is supposed to come with screws also. okay and it does a little package of screws right here.

Okay, so things have changed. I Was just reading service data yesterday when I diagnosed this thing and I ordered it and had to wait. They tell you not to cut carefully because you have to reuse the squirrel cage and to buy the ring and the seal. and this and that and the other thing.

but this one looks like it's got three tabs on it. It comes with three screws. However, we still need to go under there. and Chop It Off There's probably about a 0.69 percent chance that you're going to be able to see.

This looks like there's a little Christmas tree Fastener up in this vent here. See if we can get that little fella out of there without breaking anything. No, we better go get a tool because we need to take this out. So what a stupid freaking design.

Unplug it. Okay, let me get a little Christmas tree tool. We'll get a socket set. we'll get after it.

Try to keep you guys propped up right? Nice. Uh, let's see. you might have to spare with my head being in the way for a minute. Okay, here we go.

I Can't see what we can feel our way around? Nope. There we go now. I Feel like I'm under it? There we go. Rip that out of there.

There's one Christmas tree fastener. There we go. So there's that little guy. Doesn't come out all day.

It comes out the bottom there goes over there. Christmas tree Fastener right there. Oh, it's not really a Christmas tree. This is the one that you're supposed to pull the center out of.

Yeah, it worked. Either way, we're good. So now what do we have to do? We've got a little Christmas tree deal in there. This is gonna be real difficult with the camera anyway, but we're gonna do our best because we started this project.

We're gonna sting it. We're gonna finish it. There's one oops that didn't sound good because it wasn't good. Oh Freddie's supposed to get that thing.

Everybody close your eyes for a minute. I'm just gonna start swearing and I'm gonna start seeing another words and swearing. swearing a naughty words. That's what.
I'm gonna start doing all right right on camera so everybody finds out who I really am this crazy psycho mechanic. So we have to take this motor cover off which I don't think we're reusing anyway so it doesn't really matter that we just broke it. Hopefully there's one screw. is there another one that side broke too.

Yippee Skippy! You can't get the Christmas tree Fasteners out because they're hooked to a piece of riddle wrap. Let's unscrew this one. No one's unscrewed. Is this gonna be done at a particular time? Yeah.

Mrs Oh, it's gonna be done. What time? What time do you want it done? Fight price? Raise this. Okay, come and get it. it's done.

As good as it was when he dropped it off. What? Why are you hitting me I Still need to tell the customer what time is it You want me to tell you what to tell them we're in a we're in a pissy mood myself because a couple things just broke on camera. Freak freaking freaking figure. Um, tell him 5 30.

I'm gonna stay late just for him. Why in the Thunder Because there's one more screw. That's why if we don't got to put the motor cover back on according to service data, the wine Thunder did they send us? screws with it? Oh this does go back on. son of a frick broke the stupid thing.

I'm trying to get the freaking plastic bits out of it. Foreign, but we don't have one right now with this very instant. It's not broke beyond the point. We can't use it, but the two little tabs that hold the uh wiring harness on, they just freaking snapped off like like a Rice Krispie So I'm gonna finish pulling them off to this way I'll just have to get the customer a new one.

It's not that big a deal still. so this allows the cooling to go into the motor. So yeah, we have to have this and it's not. Make sure it even fits a new motor here.

and it does. So yeah, it goes on the bottom of the motor and it just allows that cooling tube to go over. which honestly is this fine, but it's not even going to hurt anything. It still seals all the way around.

Ah, but I need to be able to sleep at night. so I'll just I'll do what I gotta do. it's only three screws, probably costs 150 bucks. So what we need to do now? Yeah, and it's everybody's already coming.

Yeah, you could have left it attached and set the whole thing to the side. But all right, so it's 20 20 baby. That's what we need to do Now let's bring out the dog. Let's show you how the dog does it fat Max view or something.

This to me I think it's going to be useful at this point. we need to go around and cut this thing inside the little edge. here. It tells you to take a knife and to cut it out is what it tells you.

I am going to have to move you so there's a Groove under here. we're gonna fall all the way around. very generally very nicely just cutting this. It feels quite thin.
Yeah, feels like we're gonna cut through it. Just no problem at all. I'm gonna move you I'm gonna come up under here and cut this. but I gotta get you out of my face.

All right there we go. How stupid. How stupid stupid stupid is this design? Gosh freaking idiots. So then it cause you to clean up all your plastic mess around here.

which kind of engineer came up with this? oh you got a leaf in your blower motor and now it's vibrating your freaking Dash because you dropped something in it from changing your cabin air filter? Well, guess what, you can't clean it out. Oh, you got to have the reinstallation kit because some decided to save five cents in five seconds. An assembly line idiot. So now I gotta go around here.

I Think this is some piece of crap Daewoo Anyways, isn't it? Some of these cars are so I'm gonna finish cleaning this stuff off I think that was pretty decent. Let's just see at least they put the provisions in for actually putting the screws in. which that's kind of nice. But seriously, who comes over this crap? I'll tell you if somebody gets paid a hell of a lot more than we do.

so whatever. right there, we'll get the other screw here. Come here, little screwy. uh.

I can't stick my head in that way. Oh my gosh. I'm gonna jump off the cliff Here we go. Thank you.

All right we're just doing this one all blind here. Okay, there's that one. I Don't know why this motor is so expensive. It was probably three times the cost of a regular blower motor.

There's that one. I didn't build it I didn't buy it and I only broke a little bit of it. Where's the other hole back here? Feels like it should be I can't really tell we're going into something. All right.

There's that one. Probably should make sure the thing turns on before we get too far. right? That would just be though. I Seen on the that'd be the cherry on the poop Sunday Gotta push and hold the button here.

Okay, here we go. We're at full blast. Back to number one and turned off fantastic. Oh, shut it off.

She just did a little after blow. A little after blow GM has an after blow feature. It's supposed to prevent the mold, prevent the mold I Don't know if that was part of the afterblow feature or not, but one of these three screws out of a little hush plate. Let's open up our new screws now, which works the same as the other screws we just put in, but let's see dangerous.

It's like a sword I Know you're not supposed to open it up. Let's see. let's stick this so bad up here. Okay, you're good.

You're good dude. that's all good. Stick this on for a time Being what I likely do is I'll just tell the customer I broke a little thing. it's kind of superficial and see if he wants me to replace it and it might be the best thing to do.

That's the first time I broke a piece of plastic on the customer's car in a really long time. I'll be honest with, it's a little embarrassing and embarrassed with me. Usually the plastic on these newer cars is pretty forgiving. to be honest with you.
We're going down this town right now. Okay, hurry up and get this thing done though. we gotta still gotta do the wheel alignment on it. Got a belt burnishing the brakes? If none of that makes sense, it probably will in the future.

Videos and do a control arm and a tie rod and front brakes back brakes. You'll see it at some point. If I ever get around to doing that, of course we can go this way with it. You know, let's just use these holes.

Boom. There's a hole there. There's a hole there. Just like that, huh? You don't even need to replace it.

It's got two extra wire holders in case some idiot breaks these ones off. Jerk. Put your hat back on. Calm down.

We've got to get the little Christmas tree faster out of this. So we use our knife. It's got the center little Center piece pulls out of it. That's why we had such a hard time.

Maybe if you guys weren't up in my way I could have seen that. That's just me making an excuse. me. Oh, come on man.

there we go. So that's how that's supposed to come apart. What do you know? what you're doing? Where she belongs? Possibly we're pretty close to it. We'll get it exactly where it needs to go.

feel for it. So if you're struggling with this little guy to get it in the right way which I was and I said something naughty then I shouldn't but I did. So if you're struggling, lay the glove box down. It's right here in the corner.

You can reach up in there and manipulate it once you've calmed down. So now I'm gonna put this on and you guys remember this this little Donger and way in the back. the screw that we thought about not putting in. Well today's one of those days that I'm really thinking about it.

but I'm gonna because once you calm down everything's cool Man better do what you got to do. This has alignment pegs on it. We're going to get the front screws started. First and foremost, they are not 5.5 millimeter so you can so you can scrap that idea.

Get your wear a tool kit tool kit with a clip for the mechanic with the on-the-go lifestyle. Take it with you wherever you travel. Where a tool jet Plus there's that one. Come right over here right here I Can't see it.

but I'm gonna look you in the eyes when I do it. That makes it weird dude. I gotta stick my face back. Where's the hole there? It is okay I'm in I Feel like it man.

Oh yeah, we're in okay now. get your screw off the bottom of your magnet. Oh I can't take their tissue. They're down to one tissue crap.

Go back to plan A Not too often. you divert from Plan B from A to B and then back to a little piece of plastic. Stick that on there. rip some of that off, get your screw wedged in there Gucci can't shake it off this one.
You're just gonna have to come back and just just hope you're gonna be poking around up in this hole for a little while. Oh I felt the tip go in. Oh heck yeah she started. son.

Oh crap I Just my plastic fell off. Oh she's just about to hit bottom. Yes sir right there I didn't think we were gonna get that one back in I didn't think I was gonna try to put it back in. Yes I did I guess that's what I knew I was gonna I talk a big talk but I'm really kind of a kind of a weakling in my heart I kind of want to do things right I'll go around mother effing it like I'm not gonna and then I will once I Come now.

So there we are, we're good. Pick up your mess. This show is officially over. All right.

Let's go for a rip and see all the new breaks and stuff work which I Know none of that makes sense to you at this time, but hopefully in the next week or so it will because I rip you off in the breakdown video not being able to drive it because we had other things to do like you know, let's make sure it works. I'm gonna wait for it to ramp up so that's nice. Nope. hey, how's that for a view? You guys see everything.

all right Here we go. turn our wipers on bricks sound terrible. Terrible. those uh, adaptive water those uh Napa yeah they Adaptive One the coated rotors there until they break in.

Man that sounds like you just put your pads on metal to metal. but what was I saying? Yeah we did a couple lower control arms and a left outer tie rod which was guessing where well we just spun her out by numbers, steering wheels. yeah, it just tick to the left here going on down here. Lowe's I don't know, it's fine I imagine it is feeling nice.

Oh, somebody dumped your garbage in the street wind. probably got an excavator. That's what we need right there boys is so bad. I don't even know why trying to find a reverser thing.

Oh yeah. whoa. we're home run away. Shut that off.

Shut this off. Shut everything off. That's it folks. I Gotta wait for Josh to get a free lift here.

It's almost quitting time. He's finishing up alignment. We got to get this one in for alignment, but it doesn't even make sense for a blower motor. video blower motor on your uh Buick easy.

You're gonna need a knife. A little bit of patience and uh, that's it. and uh, it's easy easy peasy. And if you're reusing the old one, they do make a uh a kit.

a little ring that goes on the motor apparently that comes with screw it's the best I can tell. Like if let's say for example, you do have something in your blower motor that's making it shake because that's plausible. That happens often. You're gonna have to chop it off and then buy the kit to put it back in.

Idiots. Okay, that's enough. Ran don't you beat it? An idiot. Not that I would call you that.

Go in the comment section questions, comments, concerns. Let me know what you think about this engineering disaster that General Motors made. And if you're an engineer I apologize because I know it hurts your feelings. but that's okay.
that's okay. and just remember viewers, if I can do it, you can do it. Thanks for watching Foreign.

Manufacture Engineers work for the company and that is the bottom line. If they can save Buick 10 cents per car that is all that matters to them. The mechanic that has to work on them is not a concern to them. Sometimes I wonder if they laugh when they do these stupid things knowing the pain in the &$$ they are going to cause down the line sometime to someone.

the thing that I cant shake about these cars is, they have the provisions for the screws to hold the new blower motor in place…. which means that they went out of their way to put the original style plastic welded in, instead of just having it screwed in..

I just looked up Buick Encore on google and the first most people ask search was:
What is a common problem with a Buick Encore?

Engine problems (that sometimes includes fire)
And a link to a review site that states: Lackluster acceleration, smoke, stalling, and even catching on fire are common issues.

I worked on a Ford Bronco II back in the early 90's that belonged to a local preacher. As I was going along with the repair the preacher was sitting close enough that I was being careful not to cuss. After letting one of my favorite superlatives fly he laughed and told me to go ahead and cuss. It's easier to repent than it is to hold it all back!!

My 2001 Honda Prelude needed a blower. You can't remove just the blower out of there without major work from the engine bay side. I had to dremel off some of the plastic shrouding from the old one to get it out and same on the new one to avoid all that other work from the engine bay side.

Older 70s GM cars "remove right front wheel,, cut hole in the inner metal fender(follow the stamped line) now you get to NOT cut yourself while working through the hole you cut. remove and install a blower motor. repair the inner fender using the piece you cut out. yours looked nicer

it truly amazes me how stupid they are building these cars now—you would figure you would design a car that any idiot can work on and be able to fix the car and they'd be a customer for life and have a car that gets fixed easy and quickly——NO–its all about profit margins and cutting corners and getting the customer out of the car so they buy a new one—–it wouldnt surprise me if that job pays like 0.6 labor –some of these labor times-but thats a whole other story

  90. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dave Van De Cappelle says:
