Hello there viewers! Good day to you and welcome back! Check this out! It's a trifect of Silverados We got a gaser 2000 silvery R We got a 2003 Duy Lb7 First Gen Duramax Silvero then you got my Silvero the 07 escalator. Yeah I know GM did not make an actual escalator. Uh, but that's what I've renamed it after doing the interior. Uh, you guys who have been around a while have seen the progression on that truck.

but we're not working on that truck. We're working on this truck today. It comes to us all the way from Canadia A. We can tell cuz it's got some Rust mitigation efforts that have taken place uh on this particular truck right here.

Rocker panels look good. Yeah, there's some more little bit up here in the hood. they've tried to fix it. Looks like it's been a a decent repair except for this part right here.

It seems that the uh the oxidation has uh has won. It's persistent that rust but not too shabby. Not bad at all. All certainly isn't broken like that one over there, but it's not even here for body work I Just figured I would highlight the resilience of the Gmt800 platform.

Anyway, let's go ahead and get this thing inside. Uh, we've got a lot of inspecting to do on this particular truck. you going to open. Uh? do I have the right key? H Boss is Dos Seriously? I don't know what's happening here.

Why stop it? Well, looks like we're just going to work on this truck with the alarm sounding. All right. This is great. I'm some kind of a Super Genius here I Had the keys to the DU truck as I was trying to enter the non- duly truck here.

Now that I've figured out what I'm doing, let's try this again. Yeah, that's the right keys. I Saw the tail lights come on All right. So what we're going to do here need to hop into this vehicle.

I Am going to take it on a quick test drive. Nice interior. I'm going to take it on a super quick test drive. We're going to get a feel for how she runs drives and all that good stuff.

I've got kind of a laundry list of things we need to look at. Stocking the engine sounds like a 5.3 V8 with 288,000 for the oil pressure I wonder if the fuel gauge is in liters? if they did that in liters. voltage is kind of up there. Maybe we have.

uh, we have metric volts going on as well H here. taking a look at our our to-do list, we are not changing the oil and filter that was done last week. We want to check out the spare tire. They cannot seem or they can't check the pressure.

It's a new tire back there. Okay, that's probably low on our totem pole. We want to service through Re Axle. We want to check the AC replace belt tension if needed.

Okay, so there's a belt tensioner in the truck somewhere I see some parts? Uh, we're going to check out the front end. It's noisy going over bumps. We have railroad tracks to simulate bumps. Uh, might be the steering shaft as well.

It's a known issue with GM trucks. This is true. Uh I actually happen to have a a steering shaft for my Silverado inside in the Shelf I Have not put it in yet cuz I'm kind of busy, but I'm going to get around to that too. Uh, what happens with those steering shafts is it's like a two-piece shaft so they can expand and contract with inside of itself.
Uh, it is splined on the inner diameter of the larger shaft and on the outer diameter of the smaller shaft. And in between those splines, there's a plastic insert in the larger shaft. Well, what happens is that plastic insert hardens and then the pieces start to get brittle and fall apart and the two shafts will have play in between them and they'll Ral around. Uh, inside of the uh the splin area.

That tells me that our owner of this silver Auto does their homework. Uh, it seems to have a random misfire that comes and goes. Engine speed shakes above 70 mph. Do we know if that's engine speed or is that wheel balance speed? Cuz it's if the engine's going to vibrate or shake or misfire.

Uh, the speed that the vehicle's traveling shouldn't really affect it all that much. Usually when you've got a a vibration at higher speeds, it's just just because of an imbalance somewhere. Um, it could have a misfire at 70. I'm not discrediting that, but I'm just saying.

More likely it's a wheel balance type of situation. So oh, there we go. Check the fuel rail crossover pipe. It's very Rusty Okie does.

So we might need to put fuel rails in this. uh, we're looking and interested in a tuneup. This going to be spark plugs. Um, I can tell you right now on these engines unless they've been replaced.

we're going to break the spark plug wires when I take them off. so we should probably just Bank on changing plugs and wires at the same time. uh, again, there's that steering shaft replace upper and loader, upper and lower shaft uh and brake service pads, rotors, calipers clean Lube place if necessary. So we're going to inspect everything on this truck.

we're going to try to diagnose, uh, the uh, the misfire that they spoke of I'm going to look into that ABS uh, warning indicator that's on the dash and I guess we'll go from there. So let's get this thing out of the parking space. We'll maneuver it past the dueling dues and we'll go out. Hit the road for a quick test drive, so stay tuned because this is going to be a very good video.

Hy Hood Look who that guy is. All right pulling out. let's go over the tracks real quick. listen for some noises.

This truck feels so lightweight. There's our tracks H not really I didn't I didn't here much. Let's go ahead and do a UI up over the bridge and we'll swing back to the shop. We'll hit a few more bumps on the way.

Uh, I Was hoping to hear something definitive, but not really. So I guess we must rely on our visual inspection methods. Okay, let's give her some throttle. We'll roll into it at full speed I never made it up to 70 mph which it's like I don't know.
115 km? Yeah, I don't think we're going to make it to that kind of speed. Uh, there's no speed limit nearby where I can achieve those speeds to duplicate that concern. But again, I think we're going to rely on our visual inspection methods. All right.

Well, one observation while we're waiting for this light is that the AC system is underperforming. It's actually a cool day today. it's like 8, 82, 83 maybe and I'm not feeling much cold from the center vents so there is some validity to the uh, the AC system concern. We will have to check that out.

I Just heard this sound. Was that this truck or those trucks back there heard it again I wonder if this truck's making the sound? Yeah, that's this truck. Oh you know what that is I know what I'm hearing I'm hearing the AC compressor engage and the belt is slipping. That's what I'm hearing.

Okay, yeah, it sounded like an air purge event like I don't know if the camera picked up on it but I think the belt is slipping. That's what I hear. We can try to, uh, raise idle on this when we get back to the shop and and we'll visually take a look, look and see if we cannot see that belt slipped and while we sit here at this left turn arrow I do feel a sh slight I feel a sh I feel a slight shter from the engine I think there is some misfire action going on here. It's not ready to shite yet, but it's definitely shuttering.

Okay, oh there it is. It's shiing again I Feel it. Ah, green light. Let's roll.

Okay, one one more left turn here. at our next light, we're going back over the tracks. We're going to listen one more time for that noise. Let's make the AC noise happen.

There it is. That was a good one. so let's listen for that suspension noise one more time. I did not feel it, didn't hear it.

Steering wheel got kind of jittery I Do not believe I recreated the noise oh traffic jamm in the driveway way I got this. that was the billboard painting guy. There we go. All right, let's swing this unit into the shop.

We're going to use our center rack so I don't deprive Dave of some workspace. We still have that uh F-150 sitting over there with the timing chain rattle noise. That's the one where we found uh, wax paper down stuffed in behind the timing chain from the engine builders. So uh, we still don't know what we're going to do with that.

We're sort of dragging our feet. They're sending it back to the engineering team to decide uh what the problem is and the problem is is what I said it was and they don't want to. they just don't want to deal with it. We'll see.

Anyway, let nose this thing up a little bit. We in park that looks good. Good to go powering down for now. Unlock and let's popsy! Hood Okie Dos Let's see what's going on under our Bonnet down here looks like it's got the 5.3 L pre-2000 engine.

You can tell it's a pre-2000 because of the square engine cover on top. the uh, the later models had more of a rounded and circular one. This is the square one right here. I say pre-2000 It's more like the 99 to 2000 and maybe the old ones had it.
uh, or some of them had it. but pretty much that's an indicator of an early production uh engine as well as the EEG valve. See that right there? Yeah, we quit doing that in uh, I think 2001, maybe something like that. Anyways, what we want to look at down here.

under the hood to start with is going to be that uh AC compressor and compressor belt, which we're not going to have much access visually to see this. The compressor is polar opposite of the alternator. The alternator is in the upper right hand corner, the compressor is lower left corner. We can see the second belt for it behind that primary belt back there.

but I cannot see the compressor from the top side. So let's go ahead and get this thing racked up. and then, uh, we'll take a look at the compressor from down below. and uh, I'm going to go ahead and insist that we replace the spark plug wires if I end up doing the tuneup on this.

These things look to be original. They say AC Delo on them if they're not the originals. they're very old. Okay, looks like it's got a new power steering pump.

Battery is not terribly decrepit looking, that's probably in good shape. I'll throw a tester on that later. 5.5 L of oil because it's Canadian okay looking good so far. Oh, those, that's scary.

The exhaust manifold bolts have not rusted off and broken yet, but they're looking pretty crusty. All right. All right. that's enough for the top side.

Let's get her up in the air and take a look down below. Okay, Dos I have set the lift arm. The rack is ready to rock and roll. Black subscribe button.

That's for all the new folks here who are enjoying the content so far. Please feel free to tap that subscribe button down below that way you do not miss out on any future content. Moving on up Silverado All the way up all righty up front. Let's go ahead and pull this skid panel out.

Little splash guard plate here. We need to get this out of the way so we can see what's going on with that compressor. Let's find out today it's held on with five 15 mm bolts. no silly plastic Clips To get impacted with dirt.

All see easy like there we go. All right Dave Is going to help us out here. He's going to start this engine up and he's going to rev the engine to like 1500 2,000 RPM And we're going to watch this system right here. We're going to see if it's slipping at the belt or if the clutch is slipping.

All right. Dave Go ahead, fire it up All right. Hit the button. Yeah.

Leave it on Yeah. keep keep it wrapped up I Want see what it does? There's the there's the Clut cycle you st turn off. Bring it up to like 2000. Okay, all right.
Dave You can bring it down all right. So the clutch engages, then the belt slips Dave Shut her down. There we go. Then the belt slips and then the clutch disengages.

No wonder it's not making any, uh, any cold. Is that tension on that belt right there? See how it feels? Let me give it a tug. We'll see what the tensioner does, tensioner, un tensions and then yeah. so tensioner is junk too.

Okay, I think we've seen enough here. Needs a tensioner and then we can check out the AC system to see if it's got any additional issues. Let me let Dave down and then we will proceed with our inspe. That was funny.

You good? Can you hop out? y all right? Thank you Dave's not in there man. going back up I Found that there is a tensioner inside of the passenger compartment, so the customer seems to be aware that that was the an issue. We have confirmed that I've got spark plugs I've got the two pieces of the steering shaft. here's the upper shaft and I think that's the lower shaft and there's I think there's some more parts inside and the back.

But what I want to do first is get that belt tensioner switched out and then we'll uh, we can go from there. all right seeing as how that old tensioner is still just kind of sitting there. Let's uh, let's finish the job and un tension it the rest of the way now. I can kind of pull this belt back cuz what I need to do is push this tensioner back to its normal position to get access to the Fasteners right here.

that's two 15 mm bolts and I'm thinking I can get at them right here with the little quinch impact and a deep Drive Socket Let's see what I can come up with here. Clicks nice. There's one of them second one right here there she is that's our our Union tensioner. Okay, let's bring this over to the table.

We match it up with the current unit or the new unit. rather make sure this is going to work for us and I do believe that will be sufficient. These are correct. Yeah, it looks like this thing's just full of uh, corrosion and buildup and whatnot and it's created so much friction in there that the tensioner spring can't overpower it.

I think that's what's happened here? Don't Anyways, back to the truck, let's get this new one installed, slip the belt on, and then we'll repeat our test to see if uh, this belt's going to slip again. All right, coming back in again with the new unit wo my light bar is falling down. That's not okay. it's sitting on top of my hat right now.

Let's just get that bolt in there we go. Coming back in with the Milwa 15 mm cage. Sounds tight. Good.

So since I'm assuming this tensioner tensions properly, we're going to need to un tension this tensioner in order to get the belt on. I Need an extension standby? Again, take two with a 6-in extension. What we'll do is we'll get that on the tensioner, spin her around like that, then I can hold it now. I can reach back back and get this AC belt back over the crank and over the compressor.
Uhoh, stuck on a bolt up there. Hang on. Okay, around the back on the crank, over the tensioner. Uh, let's see I see what we're doing wrong.

We're off a groove on the crank. again. There we go. and I think we got it.

y That's it Okay, looks good, feels good. It is good. that is one replaced. AC compressor belt tensioner unit.

So let's let this thing back down. We'll get Dave to hop back in the truck and we'll repeat our test procedure and see if we still have some slipage action taking place. Uh, with this belt right here? All right? Dave's back inside. let's get ourselves in position here.

All right? Dave Go ahead and fire it up and bring it up to 2,000 Turn the AC on 18. All right, Bab, bring it down. Okie does all right. You can shut her off.

Okay, so what we saw was that tensioner in action. You saw the thing flex and tighten down and uh and loosen up, etc. etc. That's exactly what it's supposed to do.

We we noticed the absence of the belt slip and the belt squeal. But what we also noticed is that compressor is still rapid. Cycles So it kicked on for just a little while and then it shut back off and then it kicked on for just a little while. then it shut back off.

So I Do not believe it's going to make uh, cold air at the vents? Let's go ahead, grab the thermometers and the AC machine will connect our machine to the system here and we're going to see if uh, if it's building pressure or what the deal is and so the Diag will continue. Let's go ahead and pop off our valves or our caps. Rather. Okay, all right, let's get the AC machine parked over here, in position.

powering on. Actually, now we're now. we can power on. There we go.

So my preliminary evaluation at this point is that we're going to find that the system is low on refrigerant, which seems to be the most likely cause right right now. Here we go. So we do have pressure in the system. it's equal.

Let's just recover it all going, pull everything down. Uh, the machine is going to weigh how much charge came out of this thing and we're going to compare that with the specified charge level on this vehicle which should be it's going to be I think 1.8 lb pickup truck with front AC Only 1.8 lb. That's 8 kg for the metric users. Uh, let's go out back real quick and just check and make sure sure that it does not have any kind of rear AC features unlocking the lock, the door locks and out back.

Negative: I Do not see any rear AC Okay, good to go I Didn't think it had it but you always have to check. You never know and you don't know until you know you know pressure's coming down at a rapid rate. and look at there, the machine is finished. We have recovered 489 lb of refrigerant.

So yeah, this thing was super duper low. Uh, I'm basically just going to replace these service valves now the high side port. that's the uh, larger one. It contains this entire Uh Service Port body here I had to order that one I'm all out of stock and I didn't refresh.
my bad. So what I'm going to do next is disconnect these. We're going to set these aside since I've got to open the system up later anyway and we're going to move on to the diagnosing the steering section of this particular job. Uh, like I said earlier I do have a, uh, a steering shaft over here so if we don't find or even if we do find anything else wrong with the steering, I'm going to go ahead and replace that shaft.

So moving back up, we're going all the way up here. Let's get the wheels off first real quick. Like these have a spline Drive lug nuts on them. So I've got to uh use a wheel lock remover key from the kit to get them removed reverse NASCAR There we go.

That's one. Pull this guy off. This also gives us an opportunity to perform a brake system inspection too. One removed.

Let's move on over to the secondary side. It's actually the driver's side. Pull this one part real quick. Again, Reverse NASCAR Mode Okay, it looks pretty much like the second side or the first side.

Let's go in for a closer look. let's see what we can see here. One thing I can see is that most of these front end parts have been replaced already. Look at these sway bar links right here.

There's no dry rotting and cracking. We've got greaseable tie rod ends on the end here. This is smart. Let's see.

lower ball joints look like they have been replaced. so I can assume that these lower control arms have been replaced. Bushings in there look good. Can't see the bushings on that side.

These bushings look good. The shocks have been replaced. Okay, that's pretty solid. Let's go check the right front and again.

I Think we're going to find this to be in similar condition there. Our tie rod. Little bit of grease on it. Yep.

Okay, everything on this suspension looks good here. Another new ball joint. So this truck's been maintained and very well taken care of. All righty.

let's go take a peek at our steering shaft real quick. Okay, down below see that's our steering gear actually has a a slight looking bit of a leak out of it. Nothing major, but there is a little bit of fluid right here leaking out of that bottom little incap thing. So right here you can see the collar for the shaft and there's the bolt that comes through.

Shaft runs all the way up now. I Didn't hear it, but we are looking like that's an original. Shaft You can see the Bolt running through for the second piece where it ties them together. Let's go ahead and unbolt this unit and pull it out.

Okay, so what I'm looking at here is that this truck is kind of covered in Canadia You see all the rust preventative like oil, greasy lubricant wax business right here? I don't want to smear that all over myself. So rather than reaching up and in and rushing myself against all of this uh, this undercoating business, I think I'm just going to pull the fender well out and go in through the fender. Well, it's going to give me the most space and I'll be able to avoid the Canadian contaminants so we can see this is all attached with a series of these little push push clip uh, plastic body pins or whatever. we just need to separate these guys, pull them out, set them aside, and then once they're all removed, this uh fender liner should come out of here.
I think the hard part is going to be separating the clips. uh, what happens like I mentioned earlier and that lower lower cover is that these little Clips will become impacted with dirt. It fills up in those little grooves and then you can't get the uh, the inner piece to separate from the outer piece. Then you break the clip, which is quite annoying.

Got a big one over here. Come on out. Big one. Serly.

Curvy, angular, needl noses in action. We get behind it. We'll use the curve feature as leverage. Check that out.

One of my favorite uses for these particular tools. Pull that one back some and get behind it again. Get in there. I'm going to break this one.

How did I break it? Oh negative. it survived the extraction. Check it out. All right, that's half of them removed.

We got a couple more on this side here and we'll be all set. Let's try to speed this up a little bit here. these might come out a little easier. Good Ah, there's dirt rust falling down everywhere.

Just had like a little dirt meteor come down. Here we go and I think I've got just one more right up here. One thing to watch out with Fender liners is on occasion, on the other side of these Fender liners, there will be uh, plastic wiring, harness connectors that are pushed into the plastic here and they use the fender liner to hang on to it which is not the case this time. but it does happen look more customatic rust.

Oops there. Now we can see what we're trying to see in here. Look at that. Oh, this is great too.

I'll be able to do the uh, spark plugs and wires and whatnot through this hole as well. Yes, But for now we're just here to Tinker with the steering shaft. So what I want to do is that's not working either I Wanted to rotate this so I can get to the bolt easier on the bottom where it connects to the steering gear. Um, maybe I'll just take it apart right here and separate these two pieces.

push this one down and then I'll be able to turn it cuz I think that the wheel is locked inside of the cabin. 15 Coming back in I meant to drop that. All is well I have recovered the Lost lock nut here I Just went inside and keyed the thing on. So now I can turn the shaft, rotate that around, and separate these units there.

Okay, with that shaft rotated, you can see the wheels are now off center a little bit and down here. It should have given me kind of a line of sight on the bolt up there. You guys see that bolt on the top of this steering gear? We hit that with a 11 mm swivel socket. No, it's not coming off.
How about an 11 mm regular socket? I can use leverage to break it loose and then we'll spin it out with, uh, the impact. Oh come on now. Unclick. Oh, that's in there.

Dang, she's going stupid tight. There we go now. I Can try it with a gun there. It is that that little bugger? Come here you okay.

threads look okay. they're not chewed up. Bunch of rust in there though. All right now.

What I need to do is rotate the steering shaft back to where it goes so it's all indexed properly. I Want the wheels pointed forward like they're supposed to be and I want the steering wheel centered like it's supposed to be. so now those are straight Again, let's go back down below. Knock that collar off the steering gear and then the shaft will be Loos From this end, we'll probably have to go into the cabin on the floor and then peel it apart from that side.

Next down below. again, steering shaft is right here. Steering gear is right here. I'm going to put this pry bar on the shaft and I'm going to hammer that shaft off of the steering rack.

There She Goes Disconnected. So back in the wheel, well do we see this little plastic kind of shroud business here? This rubber this thing is held on with uh I think it's three or four of these nuts right here going through these studs. and I've got to pull these guys out because I won't be able to get the other ujoint on this shaft through this little uh sleeve business thing right here. So we have to detach this sleeve and take this out with the shaft.

So let's just uh, finger these nuts off real quick. There's one of them. Okay, let's get out of here and go back around to the top. Okay, it looks like there's just three of those little Fasteners we're up here on the top next to the uh brake master cylinder.

Just get these guys disconnected and spun out and then that little shroud business comes free from the fir wall that up there the bottom one. I'm glad these bolts aren't uh, all rusted the pieces cuz they would just break off and then I wouldn't be able to put this uh, rubber business back in position when we're done here. Put that one there. I'm going to grab this, uh, this thing here and try to peel it away.

ooh it doesn't want to come free, but it has to. You must come free. Let's try to pry it away with a trim tool. Need to get behind it? There we go.

Okay, that's a little bit. let's go around to the bottom. try to pry at it from down here as well. need illuminators? can't see there.

Okay, it's coming free. it's not tearing which is cool. I don't want to break it cuz I don't have a replacement. uh little rubber business thing.
got to got to reuse this. Okay, that's that's free down here. Let's try it back at the top. Once again, it should be fully separated from the firewall.

Yeah yeah, we're good here. That's uh, completely disconnected. Aha shaft fell apart too. Okay, so that needs to get reused and we need to go back and fetch the rest of the upper shaft from inside of the cabin.

Going back in real real tight squeeze. Got to get down here on the floor. Look at this. we're back inside of an interior again.

it's like the third or fourth time this week. I think I'm living inside of these trucks. Okay, so there's our shaft. There's the there's the shaft right there and you see the bolt coming up or right behind it.

See that ball right there? So what? I need to do. Let's get in there with this ratchet, disconnect that Fastener and then that shaft should slide free from the steering column and we can get it out through the hole there. Yer nice that came free with ow sorry guys I hit you in the head with a a ratchet you okay black eye. did I break anyone's teeth? That's good.

Here we go. That's the nut. come on nut and the bolts coming through if you guys can't see my apologies I can't even see my glasses fell off my face I can't reach I'm laying on my side here oh I can't get that to to come out Okay, it's uh, it's not going to come out I Need just turn the steering wheel I think nope there it is. This shaft out of here I'm going to go outside and pull on it from the outside I can't get the kind of Leverage I need I cannot apply Force to the unit.

Give me back my flashlight. it's stuck. The magnet's got it. Look at that.

Woo I am a contortionist cuz that's the only way you can do this job. Going back in, oh more smooth. look at that nasty. so many Canadian contaminants.

try. Let's try this again here. I'm laying on the radiator support come out shaft. That was easy.

Okay, that's our shaft. Let's take it over the bench and check it out here. Let's collect the bottom side. Here we go.

Okay what we got here. So that's our inboard side where It Bolts up to the steering column. That's our outboard side where it bolts to the steering gear. and this was the spline section I mentioned earlier.

See all those splines right there. where the actually the grease pattern from from the splines? See that there's a couple of them. So let's get all these tags and labels and whatnot disconnected here. Box Gravitas: Let's get rid of all this stuff and we'll get our shabs reinstalled in vehicle.

So we're probably going to have have to start with the upper shaft and just reverse the order in which we took all this stuff apart. So this one's going to go in. First, we'll put the rubber thing over top of it and then we can slide in the lower shaft after. Uh, that one's bolted back in.
All right, let's get our shaft inserted into our elongated orice here. Stick that thing in there. now. let it flop off to the side.

There we go. and now we can go back inside around the back side and get it lined up with the other Sha. Oh, the part I don't want to do is climb in here cuz it's dark and I can't see what I'm trying to see. but let's see if we can see what we want to see.

All right guys, see how this is going to work here. Take our shaft. don't drop it all man. I Almost dropped it.

the weight. the heavy weight of the shaft was trying to pull it back through that hole. There need to get it lined up right here. Oh I'm dropping it.

Shaft Gravitos. Come on there we go. Now she's in. No it fell out.

Oh no. I'm going to lose it. He come here there. there's our there's our little thing, stick that in and the nut.

Hope you guys can see. Oh cuz I can't see the camera here. I'm so contorted Here we go. Okay, that's threaded on good now.

I'm coming in with my 15 and it's also stuck to the magnet or it was there We go. Coming up on torque and clicks. Nice. All right.

that guy's tight. Let's get out of here. grabbing the lights, grabbing the wrench, maneuvering, and contorting my way out. Woo! Tight squeeze.

Okay, let's go find let's get the rubber thing, slide that guy back over the shaft, and bolt this unit back onto the firewall. That's good. I was, uh, sweating something fierce inside of there. No air flow.

a little warm today. Okay, that's going on. Slide that right over those studs. That's good.

And then two of these 10 mil. Fasteners here. Actually, there's three, but two on this side. Let's get that one in good.

and we're coming in with the quarter. Drive wrench. Little bit of torque on these guys. You can't make them too tight cuz they don't.

Uh, they're not really threaded. it's just like a split, stamped kind of a nut. and they're just sort of designed to bottom out. and that's it.

It's more of a retainer rather than a Fastener There we go. And then there's the one more. uh, there it is. That's the last one.

Okay, going back in down below, let's get that guy on its little stud there. That one's particularly difficult cuz the the rubber is in the way, there's not much line of sight there. See if I can't get this ratchet on it and be done with this. Here we go.

You come tight. Thank you'all I Think that's probably as good as it's going to get. All righty cool. Let's go get the lower shaft next and get that M it up and then bolted on to the steering rack.

So this next go around should actually be fairly easy because that other shaft will articulate. We not artic will collapse. It'll collapse in, in and out on itself so we can push it up to gain clearance and then slide this unit back in there and we're good to go. So if memory serves, the 11 mil nut was pointed up and away from us when we were in our Center Line position which we are still in now.
So if that's the nut side and that's the thread side, right, see threads in there? Yep, then that means this is the proper orientation to connect these two shaft pieces together right there. That's good. Beautiful stay. So then we're going to take our 15 mil bolt, stick that through and then our captured nut.

I Say captured cuz it's got this uh little uh sheet stamped retainer thing on there. It's more like a cage nut should have called it a cage nut. thread that guy on and then hit that with the 15 impact. Wrong way.

Clicks. All right, that's on there. Now we've got to put this harness back up. But look at here.

it has become separated and split in half from hanging in its little hanger business. So I'm going to tape that up real quick just for a for good measure now. I'm not rebuilding this harness I'm just kind of going to tape it up so it doesn't look so or it doesn't continue to deteriorate. That's all.

We're just going to tape up that broken part and that'll be my good deed for the day just to keep that Loom or whatever from falling apart and it'll keep moisture and more. Canadian uh, contaminants from getting into that wiring harness. Tape that up right there, a little more on the injured area, seal it off nice and tight. Like there we go.

now. put that back all right. let's back it up. We're going to raise this unit up and get the bottom section of that shaft reconnected.

So what I'll need to do in here is key That on and the key is out of it. Come here Key! It was dinging at us. see how I'm dirty I'm not touching anything. Okay, all right, that's good.

Let's get the rolly stool and get back down there and get the bottom of that shaft attached. Okay, so down here on this side that shaft has it's got a flat right here and another flat on the other side. So we need to line up this flat and that flat with the two that are on the steering gear and those actually look like they're pretty close. I Think that's about right.

Just pull that guy down there. we go and I believe that the Fastener has got to come in and that Su oh gravity, there goes that flashlight hit me right in the face. I just look at it wrong and it falls. Unbelievable.

So anyway, I'm going to thread in the bolt right there and I'm going to have to turn the wheels on this thing a little bit bit to get. uh, dirt. and Flashlight Come on. Hate Canadian Cars Oh no I don't hate I Don't hate Canadian Cars I Just I don't like all the nasty that's on them.

There we go. We'll thread that guy in now. I need to turn the wheels. It's going to rotate the shaft.

It's going to point that bolt down this direction and then I can tighten it up with the ratchet. Okay, let's see what this does. Spin it around there we go. Come in right? Oh I spun it too far.
spin it less that way. Coming in, there's our socket. tighten down that bolt and I think the steering shaft replacement is good to go. Here we go klicks.

that guy's tight. Okay, let's get back out of here again. and ah more. Canadian Dirt fell on me.

Look at that. Coming back down again all the way down. Well, not all the way down cuz the wheels are off of it. See that go down all the way.

Smash the wheels. That's not okay. Now there is a specialty socket that I'm going to need to remove that fitting. You can remove the fittings with uh, with like, wrenches or whatever pliers.

but you need the right way to do it is to use this. uh. octagonal socket. Octagonal, octagonal, octagonal octal? octagonal.

It's got eight sides to it, kind of like a stop sign. Slide that guy over just like. So then we'll hit it with an impact. And the reason I'm going to use an impact is I don't want to put a bunch of torque on that line.

but if we just impact it, it snaps loose, no problem comes right out. See that? So that is our fitting. Come out stuck fitting here. We'll get it unstuck with some pliers here.

Please come out. Seriously. Yeah, it's like wedged in there. There we go.

Got it? So there's our old fitting. Let's go fetch the new one, that thing set up, and then we'll change out the shider core and then recharge the system. Doorman not sponsored. That's just what they had.

So we just screw that guy right back in, toss the socket back on top right here, and just give it a couple little forward tapy tap clicks, stuck again, no matcher and back the other way once more. Wiggles There we go. Got it? That is our new replacement low side valve. so let's dig out the old one.

Come here, old valve, pull you up and out there. Our old unit looks fairly decentish. It may not have even been leaking, but I change these every time. I Service An AC System: It's part of the Evac and recharge procedure and since we did pull this down to weigh the charge and I am going to recharge it, it got new valve fix.

A lot of times what will happen, especially with those style valves with the ball. See, it's like a ball and seat valve in there. What'll happen with those valves is when you open it with your service port connectors, it disturbs the seal and then after you remove your connectors, that seal does not quite seal all the way again and the thing will leak so you can just freshly service the system and then effectively create a leak in the system that you just serviced. That's not okay.

so I need to reconnect my hoses one more time. We're going to pull this system into a 10-minute vacuum and then we can install the 1.8 lb of refrigerant that's 8 kg for um, Metric types and then we can recheck the uh performance level of the system inside the cabin. So let's set up vacuum cuz we've already recovered. it's vacuum.
it set it for 10 minutes and then I'm going to go wash this uh Canadian contamination off of me in preparation for our next phase here. Yeah, Vacuum. Like I said. Thank You hurry up, let's go.

Do Not save. That's what I did 10 minutes there we go. Moving along. Vacuum is progressing.

Yep, Yep. All right. 10-minute break. Don't go anywhere.

Okay, so we missed the beat, but our vacuum test is complete 10 minutes later. Let's go ahead and set up our charge. We're not doing a hybrid Poe system. We held vacuum for x amount of time.

Not really a relevant test, it just makes sure it holds the vacuum for 10 minutes. Make sure that uh uh, there's no large Lee in the system before you install your charge. 1 Point uh, what did I say? 1.8 or 1.4 Uh, that's An8. Yeah, that's an eight.

Tell you what. Since I know what the metric is, we will charge this this in kilog. How about that 8 kg? Begin charging now. going to send it in through the high side.

Soon as this charge is complete, we'll fire up the system. We'll give it some RPM We'll take the compressor on, we're going to check for some cold air coming out, and then, uh. we're also going to listen for that squealy noise from down below which I don't think we're going to have, but we still have to recheck. Please begin charging.

There we go. That's what we're looking for. Low sides coming up and 25% of the way there. Okay, all right, charge has completed.

Let's go ahead and hose equalize and in the meantime we'll head back inside, fire this thing up, and see how she cools. beginning engine starting sequence now. Okay, the system should be running and it's not. Oh, there we go.

Compressor's coming up. Took it a second to wake up. 200 PSI where we had over here on our low side. about 50 psi.

Sneak on in here. Okay, we'll toss that guy right in the center vent and I'm going to take this opportunity since we have a minute to let this system stabilize. I'll grab the scan tool and see what that ABS light's about. recheck after stabilization, this is looking a little better 175 and we're at uh, about 34 33 PSI in the low side.

that's that's better. I'll take that. I'm sure it's making cold inside I Have yet to hear the squealy squeaks here. Let's toss.

uh, toss that scanner in. So the other day I used the scan tool and I hit the little button on the end of the the dongle thing or whatever and it turned on the flashlight And you guys wouldn't believe how many people said in the comments that they never knew that their scan tool had a flashlight at the end of it and thank they thanked me for changing their life because that literally can change everything. Silly little flashlight we are in ABS and we're looking like a C0267 pump motor circuit open that's in the ABS side. Uh, I Can tell you right now it probably needs an ABS pump.
Uh, what we need to do is disconnect the connector at the ABS module down in the frame rail and then find the other end of that connector. Uh, we use diagrams and all data and service data data data to Uh to locate the opposite side of that. We check the two wires going into the ABS pump and if those wires have good continuity and the proper resistance. Uh, at that point we are going to have to replace the ABS module.

so I'm pretty sure that's what it needs. Uh, let's go into Uh with air pump without air pump, no throttle cable without air. There we go. That's the one bottom one.

So I need to ask our customer if they want me to diagnose that ABS business or not. Um, chances are and I'm leaning towards it's. probably going to need a uh a module, but let's check out engine display codes. Let's see what ECM has in store for us.

All powertrain codes Please P300 Engine misfire detected the dreaded P300. Okay, so we have an engine misfire. We have an ABS issue. We have an AC system that does make cold now, but check this out.

It's only coming in at about 52 53, so the system is slightly underperforming. That may be acceptable in Canadia. But down here in Rainy Florida we're not going to get very far with those. uh, those temperatures.

I Think we're a little bit low on our high side here. low side's looking pretty good. High side? Yeah, sub 200 I'd like to see 225. that would be a good spot and see how we're uh, we're bouncing a little bit right here on that needle.

That's uh, suggesting to me that there may be a problem with the AC compressor. So at 50, yes, it works. Um, it probably does need some more work. Um, I also have to bounce that off the uh, the owner of this truck to see if we want to, uh, pursue any additional repairs on, uh, well, any of these systems actually.

So I'm going to give them a call. What we're not going to do is pull those plugs out just yet because I'm going to have to be prepared to commit to the wires. The plug wires. So at this point, um, I've got to brounce everything off the customer and get some more Direction out of the situation.

So having said that, I think I'm going to go ahead and end this video and close this one out right now. So I'm not sure if this was a repair video A Part scanning video or a Diag video. It wasn't really a Diag video. Uh, well, we kind of diag the uh, the the tensioner pulley down there.

so I guess I guess it was sort of a Diag video. It was a trifecta hybrid video from a car from Canadia. So anyway, uh yeah, I have no more words to describe the situation. uh, at hand and at large.

Uh, we're going to let our owners know about this and then we're going to get seek. We're going to seek Direction on what to do after that. So that's going to close out what looks like a Part One video on this 2000 Chevr. Silverado Hope you enjoyed this video.
Let me know what you think about this video in the comment section down below. Don't forget to tap that like button while you're down there. And most importantly, every cell's a fantastic day. See you guys later in the video into four-door not three-o in Silverado and today in a transmission in.

Awesome video Ray keep them coming. I know many Americans know very little about Canada but it's a very geographically large country with very different climates. Where that truck is from in Eastern Canada, it has very similar climate to the central and eastern US with very cold and snowy winters. Where I live on the
West coast of Canada, in Vancouver BC, north of Seattle, it's very different. We have the mildest climate in Canada. Today its is sunny and 43 F and while thats cold compared to Florida, its warmer that all of the central and US/Canada areas. Just a little education, ok off to play golf now…

Ray, you're lucky you don't have to deal with road salt, as it is a death knell to vehicles. Up here in Eastern Ontario, Canada, it is currently 3 degrees C or about 38 degrees F. I had to get rid of my 2003 4.8 Litre Silverado last year as rust had overcome my attempts to keep the truck alive. Bought her in 2007 when she was 4 years old, pretty good that she lasted that long. I used rubberized undercoating to help prevent corrosion…absolutely the worst stuff to use as water gets underneath it and just eats up anything metal. I had no choice but to purchase a new vehicle, a 2022 Chevrolet Equinox, which I just love and is way cheaper at the gas station to fill and superior in the snow to my old Silverado. Got her oil sprayed just after I purchased her. I miss the old truck sometimes, for hauling stuff, and just for the brute force of the mighty LS engine💪😊 Have a great weekend, my friend.
