In this video we have a look at 2004 GMC 1500 5.3 that came in with a customer complaint of "no four wheel drive." The shop said it has a code C0327 "Encoder Circuit Malfunction" stored in it. They also said that the encoder motor was replaced along with the transfer case AND the vehicle had been taken to the dealer in an attempt to repair it. They gave up so now it's our turn. -Enjoy!

Does anyone still have the schematic used on this video? I have a similar problem and the link don't work anymore.
I wanna see the fix lol
Which is also a good thing cuz my mechanic trying to rip me off $800 to change the motor and it might just be a wire so I'll go through and check it all myself
It was kind of slow but you're throwing it telling me what I may have to be as thorough As You Are
Look like a good job to me
I can not belive a dealer didnt find this.
Stupid cars 🤨😊👍✌️
Simple visual inspection can sometimes lead one right to the problem – especially if one finds a rats nest 🧐😳🤨. Makes me have to wonder , did the dealer even make any checks of fuses ? , or just ship the truck over to your shop for repair. 🤔🤨
I can't thank you enough man, you did great job.
I was quoted from a parts store wanting a core charge for a TCCM
2000 Chevy, same problem. Rat chewed same wire, same location. Watching his video saved be a lot of time.
I love this video I'm sitting here with the stuff he knows sinus infection and trying to figure out why God damn thing won't come out of love for love but anyway video didn't help my problem none but I always enjoy your videos
Fixed our problem thanks man
Hello Eric, Glad u found the issue. NP8 should use doc id 770220. I could be wrong but I think you were using 769868 for the NP1 transfer case.
I was following along and have a similar code and issue and built mine as a NP2 case and found 770220 . My application is a 2002 Silverado 4wd NP8 Option. Hope you are feeling better.
Good buddy tanks💡☘
I take it Mrs. O wasn't in the shop when you did this 1, lol And those strippers (wire) are terrible the 1st set.
Fantastic Job detecting the problem! All the best to your Health.
Damn awesome video. I’m working on my 2008 2500hd at the moment. Just changed transfer case and running into same issue. Already changed out the tccm and tried to do the learn but to no avail.
Nice, very good analysis, all ya need now is a Fluke!!
Where do you buy a connectus from
Love that you used the tech 2! Dealer scan tool. It does have the interface of an old Atari system. But in the right hands, it does work.
Went through changing a few parts and then came across this video. Didn't find a nest but found a crammed wire pinched in half by the cover. Cut, soldered, heat tubed and got my 4wd back! Awesome brother!!
Brother…I've been trying to hunt this down for probably 24 months. I haven't found any threads in forums covering how to isolate the wiring, everything just says replace the encoder motor, test the switch at the dash, etc, etc, etc. My issue turned out to be the EXACT same thing, so lucky-ish for me, but man, I just didn't know where to look for those wires at the connector next to the fuse block. I will definitely be donating soon. Thank you so much, and even on a day when you don't feel good at all, you were able to provide something that has made me VERY grateful. thank you thank you thank you. I hope you are getting everything you need in life. Love this, love you, keep up the legit work.
Nice… dealership probably charged an arm n leg without fixing it.
It's funny, You work on GM's constantly and wear a jeep hat. I have a yard full of both myself and have most of the same issues with the GM's. True blue on the dealers (God bless em). Great videos!!
Even under the weather you do a hell of a job keep up the good work love your videos
Can you share the diagrams again?
<- – – – – in his echoing stadium voice…….."CHHEEVVVYYYY TTHHUUNNNDDDEEERRRRR – ERR – ERR – ERRRRR!!
I have a problem on a 2005 Chevy Tahoe it does crank but it will not turn on do you know any other problems
A great video.
I would have took hey shopvac and sucked all of that out I hate rats
thank you for the inf and hope you feel better and thank you
did you get a chance to upload the wire diagram please i need a copy for my 2003 Chevy Avalanche
Again, awesome, awesome, awesome!
Wow! Great video, thanks so much! I'm willing to bet I'll find something similar to this on my Suburban when I look at it again tonight. It sat without being driven for 19 months and there is evidence that mice have visited. All of the 4WD button lights are on along with the CHECK 4WD message. I wouldn't be surprised to find a similar pile of mouse mulch in the same area.
Used to have my own repair shop years ago, had a customer come in with a Cadillac cts with electrical issues , while diagnosing removed two full plastic grocery store bags of mouse nesting material. After repairing a multitude of chewed up wiring , she informed me that she couldn't possibly have mouse damage because she lived in an upscale neighborhood !
dude your zip ties were pointed in the wrong direction. What the hell. thats not a Ford
👍👍👍👍👍
Your the #%*?ing. man Thank you for sharing and caring
Get well soon….sinus infections are a bear…
I really wish I had a scan tool that could do all those diagnostic tests! Maybe someday… In the meantime I'm fortunate that here in Lincoln, Ne. there is a good automotive electrical shop that can do all that stuff. Good job finding that wire! I've had sinus infections before, no fun AT ALL!!
It's great to see someone that actually knows what he is doing! I refer to his video's a lot for information and suggestions.
Great video i have tested everthing someone unplugged the decoder motor years ago i plugged it in it killed the battery within minutes i think the rats have been wiring this truck too got to check tomorrow
Im buying a 1999 chevy z71 4×4 and the transfer case is stuck in neutral was told it was transfer case but I've seen that the encoder motor on the transfer case could also be bad I'm at a loss any help would be great thank you!
It blows my mind they didn't notice the rats nest under the fuse box. My first thing to do with electrical is to test fuses
Thank you for these videos I own a 01 Sierra and you’ve helped me out a lot ! Respect for taking your time to make this video while you’re sick and still doing your everyday job to pay bills. Much appreciated 🙏
dude i wish you were close you would be my go to guy
I want to go get a shop vac so bad…
You should have gotten one of your helpers to vacuum that out. That's the least they could do when you fix their cars for free !!
