Neither one of those seals is “leaking” …..just years of buildup from the seals allowance for oil to pass and lube the seal……or it melts.
But hey…..whatever floats the old boat so to speak.
And yes, seals allow a very small amount of oil to pass.
Ever notice the spiral ribs on the seal itself?
They are then made to tension with the spring behind the lip.
And don’t smooth the yoke like that ever! It puts scratches along the yoke and the seal “will” leak….(drip drip 💧….👍

I must admit that I am very happy to see that I am not the only guy that talks to the various parts and tools when working on client vehicles !!!! It seems to be a source of amusement for my workmates that I quite often berate or congratulate innanimate objects depending on how things are going.. " oh now you really dont want to stick on do you " or " why thank you for lining up so nicely" are phrases that you can hear around my workspace !! See it's true, You dont have to have mental issues to be a sevice mechanic – BUT IT HELPS !!!!

I had a transmission service once. After the mechanic was done, the owner took my car for a test drive. Came back mad, kid didn't put any tranny fluid back in the car. I guess it was good though as I didn't have trouble later.
I know it's the satisfaction of knowing that something that works so hard and no one see's you have cleaned and replaced new seal's new oil once it's on the ground YOU KNOW it's good to go.

I can tell your shop is NOT in the northern US. Mechanics I watch from up there have to work on rust buckets on many over four years old. Nuts and bolts are very difficult to work with and many just break off. Makes me glad I am in Texas. I have a going on twenty two year old Nissan Frontier with no rust.
