Customer Customer States Mechanic Fails Engine Transmission Gas Diesel off road race 4x4 street car daily driver scam dealership dealer technician how to

I'm out of battery? Who knew? Yep, Hello everybody! good day to you! Welcome back! Glad you guys are here I Know I'm glad to be here. We are returning to a part Two of this 2009. Honda CRV I Think it's got a 2.4 liter engine. Yep, 2.4 liter four-cylinder front-wheel drive CRV It has approximately 77 096 miles on the odometer.

In the last episode, we uh, did an inspection on this. We did some fluid Services We found that it had leaking rear struts and we found that it had uh, torn dust, boots and whatnot on the front struts. So being uh, in perfect condition as this car is, we decided the owner decided that we were just going to go ahead and replace all four units with new units. In the last video, we did the rears in this video, we're going to go up front and we're going to replace the uh the front strut assemblies.

so stay tuned because this is going to be a very good part. Two openings Hood Yeah, Battery all right. So in case you missed the uh the first video, I'll leave a link to it down inside this video's description. but what we're going to need to do is pull off these two bolts here on the steering knuckle, the hose.

uh, this little ABS wire that comes off. We have to remove the sway bar link right here and then up top. we've got to get access to the three bolts that Bolt the strut to the strut. Tower Take those guys out and then we can slide this assembly out.

We'll repeat the exact same procedure over in the passenger side. Once the two units are out, we can put the new ones in Reverse Procedure: bolt them all together and send it off to the alignment shop. So the first thing I would like to do is determine whether or not I've got to disassemble this entire wiper cowl or not. So let's pull the trim back there.

This actually might be an access panel here I hope it is. That would be nice. see if this guy is going to come out of here or not. Oh, become disconnected.

Feels like a panel snaps away like a panel and the survey says it is a panel. That's cool. good but I don't know if that's going to be gonna give me the room I Need to get to those bolts. We've got two here.

There's one. uh, there's another one. Yeah. I don't know.

Um, well. I have an idea I Have an idea. Let's uh, let's actuate the wiper blades and then key it off when they're in the vertical position and that might, uh, that might give us the space that we're looking for to get a hold of those bolts. So let's kick key these on real quick.

Begin wiping. Temporary wiping. Come on there we go. Perfect timing.

That's what I wanted. Vertical blades. Oh, look at that. Yep, panel comes out.

This is good and it looks like we've got access to all those bolts up here. Wonderful now. I Have to pull the entire wiper cow assembly apart. That's good.

I Like it when things are easier than I had anticipated and I said it shouldn't have said that I changed myself. Come here. What are you clipped on? Don't break it Ray don't break it. How about the other side? What's the deal here? Unclip? Well, perhaps there's the little Clips are just getting hung up? Yeah, yeah, they're just getting stuck.
I should have removed these first. That's what the deal was. All right. no matcher.

Got access to the bolts over here. Let's go down below and get big bolts removed and then we'll uh, we'll go from there. All right. First off, let's get some lubricant here on these uh threads for that sway bar stud.

Let that soak in. We'll pull the brake line off over here first. second. Next, set that aside.

let's pull this uh wheel speed sensor wire out of that bracket because that bracket is attached to. come here the strut and looks like there's another attachment point right here. Let's pop that guy out. broke it broke the little clip.

No worries. I have I have more. Not gonna be a problem. We need 17 millimeters.

pull that guy out unclick. Oh good. sometimes those will Spin and they won't come out. This one came out.

that makes me happy. Go back on there please. There we go. Okay, down below a little bit, we've got the two bolts.

These are big ones: 22s nuts Two Nuts Two Nuts and two bolts. Let's get these guys disconnected. Now we're spinning the bowl. Where's me wrench? Throw it back.

Yeah, we need 19 millimeters for this side. There we go. Assembly set these guys aside. next that's in there.

How about that? That was Choi You ready? Yeah, and that last night bolt did not come out true. Let's just get behind it with some pliers here and encourage it. There we go. pull that guy out.

Okay, now let's move up top, take those bolts out and then we can drop this unit. and Get It Free and Clear Okay, I believe these are going to be of the 14 millimeter variety. Looks like it. Yep, See we need the 3 8 drive next.

Good. Set those aside. let's get the hard ones first. I Cannot reach.

No worries. Fires pulled out with some flowers right here. There we go. So I think there's four of these guys in here.

I Believe there's usually three, but this one's about four. I think that's all of them. Let's go. Uh, let's give it some Wiggles and see if it's not these four, then it's going to be that one as well.

but I don't know. Sure, back down below here, see if it's gonna come through or not. Yeah, there's Oh, there's another one. Maybe there's five.

That's interesting. Never seen them with five before. Pull that one off. Actually, let's put this one on that way.

the thing can't fall out. Put it on slightly. Oh, nut fell down and it could have made the entire strut fall out. and that would have been bad because it would have fell and hit the axle and broke a hole in the boot and then hit me.

And yeah, we don't want to do all that. okay. I'm reaching back up to, uh, get that last remaining nut off and with my right hand, I'm going to hold on to the strut. take the weight that way it can't fall out.
Oh, there's more spider webs in here. There we go. There's our unit with five studs on the top. That's that's a new one.

Good there you go over here. let's go unbox the new one. see if, uh, if it matches up to that one. Okay, old unit.

You go right here. Got the new unit close by, it's in the lap. Match this guy up. so we've got bracket bracket brackets, two more brackets, and up top we're looking like five studs.

Good to go. Oh, another sticker. What's this one say? It says spring under compression. Do Not remove nut with that one.

Yeah, if we remove that nut, then the plate will fly away and the spring will unspring and it'll fire across the shop like a missile. That would not be okay. Mr Troy Can I get your assistant sir. I'm gonna put this: uh I need you to put the nuts on this strut, go around to the front over there.

I'm gonna feed these studs through the holes up top and you need to, uh, put some nuts on it so it doesn't fall out. Hang on here. see if I can't get these to line up. Here it comes.

You're good. Oh, it fell out. Hang on. Okay, uh.

still falling out. All right. Try again. Gonna get it.

Hurry. It's getting heavy. All right. Get all the nuts.

get one on the other side. There you go. All right. So while he's doing that, we can be efficient and start threading some of these other.

Fasteners Here, put that one in that goes there that was started. We can get the brake line later. Let's get the knuckle in place. Next, it's going to require a little bit of Min lifting power here.

I've got to pick up on it. There we go and then line it up All right. That's what we're looking for. Next one going in, please become aligned.

What is this? There we go. That one's in and my two nuts on the ground I got one, the other one rolled away some. No worries Don't Laugh at My Misfortune I saw you I heard you chuckling up there laughing because my nuts are gone. There we go.

Type these guys down or not. Click. come here. Sweet! IE There we go.

That's in. everybody's in. Let's get this guy. this brake line tightened down.

Oh the other gun, you have it. Well I guess we'll tighten that down in a minute because I don't have the gun. You know what? I do have I do have the 17. So I can tighten down our sway bar link, sway bar quickages.

all right. Back up top. Yeah. Get that one in see if you're uh, you can't reach what you're trying to reach.

Get something to help you reach what you're trying to reach? Huh? Like a socket? Click that one in. Yep, that one good. There we go. Problem solved Good.

All right. So those guys are mounted. That's good. Let's put our little cover back on kickage and a little seal that goes right back where it goes for where it came from.
There we go. So at this point we have one unit installed that's complete bolted in, bolted on, not bolted on. We need the 12 mil. Let's uh, let's get that one correct before we move on to the other side.

Now you remember that a little zip tie thing that I broke right? I have a replacement. Let's get the Cutters out here through those. So what we need to do? Plug this guy in to that little hole right there there we go. Then we'll zip tie it together, cut off the excess, and uh, it's like it never happened.

Get in there awkwardly, certainly circularly shaped zip tie looking bracket thing. Go in there. There we go. What There we go.

You make weird noises and then when I say what you say what? like that is not conducive to uh, good communication skills. The hood prop rod. That's what you're looking for. Okay I don't know.

I had it hanging on your tool cart. You did something with it. It's your responsibility. You lost it.

You lost it. Oh my. God You relocated it to a place where it's lost. All right.

Enough screwing around. Let's go around to the passenger side and we can repeat procedure over there. Get that other strut changed out. Okay, we have managed to migrate around to the passenger side.

Let's repeat procedure. Let's get the sway bar link. remove first. Oh I failed already I didn't lubricate it.

Hang on here. Try again. That's going to be a bit of a problem now. it's not going to want to come out.

I Know, get some pliers on it. put a little bit of torque here. Nope. Nope.

Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope.

Double nope. Multiple notes not coming out. Fortunately, there's another method to do this. Let's see here we're gonna loosen that.

We're gonna tighten this. Go in there. Go in there we go. We can turn the stud.

y. See that. let's turn that stud until it uh, runs out of threads and then it'll come off. We're uh, we're powering our way through some Rust Here, that's the problem.

All right. Try something there. There we go. As soon as I figure out what I'm doing, we can get back to doing what I was doing there.

I've got the uh the wrench down behind the tie rod. that way when I turn the ratchet, it doesn't make that wrench flap around. We started off with a floppy wrench. We don't want a floppy wrench.

Oh, that's in there too. That's a lot of rust. I Mean it doesn't help if that's a Nylock nut trying to plow through some Rust and I just slipped it. That's great gravity of something.

Let's try this again. It's not in all the way, but it will be game on. Oh game, not on now. I'm getting in trouble.

it's gonna be I Knew I knew I shouldn't have said anything earlier. It's going so easy. Yeah, done in no time. Jeans myself again I Gotta stop talking problem here.

Don't slip. Come out there. it's turning again. good.
I'll cut you off with the torch I Don't care. Come on. now. almost there and it stops of course.

Seriously, come on. shouldn't be this hard. but it is oh good. A lot of good that's gonna do a little bit of lube at the finish line.

Hmm I wonder let's try something else. Let's hold the stud stationary. try to move. Uh, move.

the bolt. Got more leverage on the uh on the wrench. stay I can feel this uh this Torx bit just like twisting up filter there. Yeah yeah.

um. go let uh let Lauren know and have her call them and see if they want to put a new one in it. air filter. come on.

this is getting boring and old real fast I don't want to do this I want to get the thing out there. Seriously. come on you now it's stuck I totally jinxed myself in like the worst ways. Okay, Oh I know I'll just leave it there until later or I'll wiggle it a bunch I'll wiggle it and hit it with a hammer.

Come out. Let's get the Uh wheel speed sensor wire disconnected here I don't care if I break the plastic clip because I have another one it broke so that's fine. Good Over here to the right. we've got our 12 mil for the brake line.

Get rid of that guy, pull that out, set it aside and impact time got a 22 yep, 22 and the 19. coming in over here on this side, we can wrap it loud on clicks now I'm out of battery? Who knew? Yep, okay, fresh battery. Give me that good. there's one.

There's number two right here. rapping loud on clicks there come out only if I wiggle it some it'll come out of there. there We go. Got it all right? now.

We need to go up top, get those top bolts unbolted and same procedure. This strut will fall free from this. drop down again. Back up top.

Let's get the hard to reach one first which we can't reach. You're gonna need an extension now. we have the reach again. Hardest to reach ball first.

Pull that one out next. Oh no, it fell. Yeah! I Totally jinxed myself on this side. I Jinxed myself so bad dropping bolts in places where I can't get to them, cross thread and stuff I need a magnet on a stick? Yeah, let's go.

Uh, let's fish that bolt out before I forget that it's back there or before it falls down into the fan cage. Here we go. Got her all right. next.

Number three, loose, Number four loose Mr Troy Told you that name was gonna stick. We need you on that last Fastener right there. I'm gonna come down here and again. grab the unit so it can't fall out and Break Stuff yeah I need to get a hold of this first real quick.

Let me get in a good position here. You ready? Yep, all right. go ahead. Okay I've got the weight.

It's free and coming out there she is old strut. Toss that over here. We'll unbox the gravity. There it is.

flashlight. Let's toss that over Here we go. All right. New unit coming in.

Let's get the protectors off the threads. We'll get this thing up in position, vaulted in Mr Troy Don't go anywhere we need you. He just walked away. Okay, come back over here.
We need you to put these bolts in the top of this when I put it into position. Please sir. All right, we're looking up into the strut. Tower We're gonna feed the unit up.

Look at those holes filled to their maximum capacity. Hang on. It's not aligning. I'm not aligning there.

We go. All right. Troy Get them. Don't do that.

They're hard to find. If you're over here, who's doing the vacuum? Is it the the youngin? Yeah, She called her. She's not a slave. That's terrible.

Why would you call my baby a Slave You're evil. You're serious. Are you last time? I Think she's serious. Yeah.

I Went over there looking for you and she was just covering in the top of the vacuum making it look like she was doing something. She likes to vacuum her hair. Awesome. Yeah, that's my kid.

She's vacuuming her face. All right. Let's get these these strut bolts in right here. Get this unit secured.

Yeah. come up Strut. You can turn it some there. pick it up, picking it up higher.

Oh good. good. there we go. There's one cause I've got my bolts in down here.

Numero dos and I got the wires hooked up. Don't cross thread him. Okay, no no, don't Don't cross thread them. pretend just 10 you're cross threading them and then yeah, no I don't want to hear it.

Just don't you screw that up. you can go home I Don't like. Come on. This thing sucks this.

I hate this gun. need new Rigid gun waiting on you. Come on Pokey Hurry up. Oh I don't want that can I have the gun back.

Thank you Senor Okay. last bolt, last bolt click complete. Very good. All right.

that's two struts removed. Two struts installed. Wonderful. Let's go back up here and make sure he didn't cross thread these and he didn't All jokes aside, now, he's pretty good at his job.

No worries, we joke around. gotta keep things light. like why won't that clip in there? We go now. it will good.

Get our weather strip in place here. Excellent. Okay, fingers crossed. Is that thing gonna go on? or is it gonna? it's gonna be a bear.

What do you guys think? Yeah, it's not going on very well. I Don't like it. Thank you. Oh man.

What? that was 18. I had the wrong socket there. Okay, problem solve. There we go.

That's tight Now everybody's tight. That thing's zip tied on. This is connected. That's connected up there.

We're bolted in. We're bolted on down here. Alrighty, let me clear my stuff out of the way. I've got the wheels on already.

We skipped that part to save us some time. Let's go ahead and let this thing down. We're gonna back it out. It has to go down the street to another shop that can do the wheel alignment because I don't have an alignment machine or alignment rack here.
so I've got to Outsource that to other individuals. But all that being said, this particular job is complete. It was actually very easy despite my uh, talking myself into a corner. but again, very easy job.

I Was glad things went swimmingly and there was no difficulty involved here. So the only thing I need to do at this point is to thank all of you guys for watching this video. As always, we hope you enjoyed this video. If you did enjoy this video, please feel free to let me know about that by tapping that like button down below.

I miss my 2010 CRV…..mainly bc it wasn’t a new car and I’d go on trails in NH with it. The oil rings were shot, struts were gone, sway bars links needed replacing and the catalytic converter was gone at 125k miles. I got 5k for it as a trade in for a new car I baby 🤣🤣🤣

EVERY O N C E IN AWHILE one sees soneone else in a perfect fit job. That's you! Your skills, drive, enthusiasm, deep concern all align perfectly so as to fullfil the adage: "do what you L♡VE and you'll never WORK a day in your life.

You left behind a shop that was stiffling your spirit and enthusiasm… but you got it back by doing your own thing… As the song says: "something's lost when something's gained." You lost 'Pee-tah' and them ringing "doodley deedley doodley" phones… oh well!

Might you open up yourself to repairing cars from 'far away' that have to get transported? Some of us are so indentured to our 'rides' that we'd bite the transport bill to get THE BEST!

Please put a warning in the title.
Cross threading is very disturbing for the faint of heart. Also unsuitable for younger audiences.

Ray Ray anytime you are going to be doing suspension work on a Honda you should always sell the swaybar links. They're cheap and its so much easier when you can just needlenose vise grip the back of the link to keep it from spinning and smoke the nut loose with your impact then trash it and go back with new ones 😊

Fitted 100's of Honda shocks, this is an easy component swap having a complete unit, easy 1 man job, don't know why you're struggling & need an assistant to put upper nuts on …. wait till you have to strip the shock & re-use the coil springs, proper wrestle of a job in any spring compressor as the coils are handed & don't fit in a compressor …. You forgot the upper rubber water/dust seal … water will collect around the top shock nut & rot out the nut., plus there's no reason to do a wheel alignment, after market shocks, which these are, will be made to same dimensions as OEM units …. entertaining non the less

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bill in Phoenix says:

I hope "wife unit" got some video of "daughter unit" playing with the vacuum. Your shop is really on a fast track, don't cut corners or quality and the customers will be plentiful, Great vids all of you

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Les Reeves says:

When I remove struts I undo the top nuts first then the ones on the bottom makes it easier to remove them. When putting the new one in I align the top holes & then put one bolt in the bottom that way only one person is needed to do the job. Also put weight on the strut before tightening all the bolts/nuts.

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Terry Robertson says:

I'm no fan of Honda, but I must give them Kudo's for providing easy access to the upper strut mounts.

  48. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars April 1 says:

That was like NASCAR speed on strut replacement. Wow!

  49. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars It's Just 2SXTs says:

That's it! I need that zip tie that goes in holes, how are they called? I can't find the name of those things!

  50. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ozzierabbit says:

Interesting that CR-V needed new struts at 77k miles. I have almost 175k miles on my '06 CR-V and they still appear good. Maybe it's the roads over there?

  51. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars OldKatz says:

    Milwaukee consumer grade junk!!!!

  52. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Twitchmess 1 says:

A good add-on sale is camber bolts. They will give the alignment tech an adjustment the factory didn't give him. They are easy to install when you are doing struts, in-expensive, have a good markup, and give a benefit to the customer.

  53. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars William Squires says:

“You relocated it to where it’s lost.” Yeah. Been there, done that. WAY too many times. 🙄

  54. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars JonathanA says:

Those Monroe quick struts won't last long. Trust me, I know lol

  55. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John T. says:

If you changed struts that mount one way only, why the need for an alignment? Seems silly to me.

  56. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars greg a says:

Hey Ray just wondering where is the strut boot for the LF strut? Didn't see it on vid. I saw the one on the RF strut. Always check those on ALL quick struts! Just sayin…….

  57. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Fort Worth Mobile Mechanic says:

Leave it to Honda to put 5 studs on a strut that weighs a ton

  58. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jimmy, Making it work says:

The struggle is real and the cut off wheels are usually not far away. 🙂

In case of fall out, put it back in and take shorter strokes. Lol

  63. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars greenhouse3505 says:

Any plans to get your own alignment rack incorporated with the new lift? 4 poster with bells & whistles would be worth the investment. Just throwing it out there. What do y'all think guys n gals?

  64. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Danny Linc says:

    Theee Count gets a nut.
    5 nuts !
    Ahh ahh ahh haa.
    His lower ones are missing.
    Two nuts, on the ground.
    .ahh hah hah hah.
His partner made sport of his nut experience.
    That's one, one laughing co-worker.
    Ahh hah hah hah.
Today's episode was brought to you by…the letter h.

  65. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars greenhouse3505 says:

So Troy's nickname is now "Pokey"? …I'm okay with that. lol

  66. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Al Iwon'tShutUp Hefner says:

Ya know, if ya take the NUTS off of the top bolts as the FIRST major step, you can just take apart the bottom end normally without worrying about dropping the strut. THEN, if you reverse all of that, the top will be held in place quite handily so putting those NUTS back on won't be so sketchy.

  67. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Peter Franks says:

Find it hard to believe with those miles having them leaking already. If that’s not a one owner car someone changed the 1st number on the odometer for sure.

  68. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars adam austell says:

Yeah those Milwaukee tools are ok Homeowner quality😅

  69. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ben Aldredge says:

Ray, were you having flashbacks of the Subaru when trying to remove that sway bar nut??

  70. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars crazygeorgelincoln says:

We're the rubber top bits transferred, although I believe their job it to hold moisture to facilitate corrosion.

  71. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Job38Four says:

Good video, how come you dont get an alignment set-up, I know smaller garages that have em…….

  75. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars DrewV1 says:

Ray, I knew that first sway bar link came loose way too easy. The second one made up for it, but here in the rust belt they're all fused with rust. A torch if you have one or PB Blaster if you don't. Once you get past the smell, you've got it licked!

  76. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Tim Wickersham says:

  79. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Paul Tavares says:

  80. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ralfie says:

Hmmmm, The wife unit referring to the child units as slaves! That’s funny. And good for teaching them good work ethic.

Hello Mr Ray : great job getting that done so fast! so when are you going to get the front end
alignment set up? will that go in the 3rd bay? it is so nice seeing unfrozen hard ware!
I am in the NE of NY you constantly deal with corrosion up here. everything I remove I put
never seize on so the next time it might not be so difficult. great video cannot wait for the next!

  83. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Manuel Perez says:

Is this for real? Under 80000 miles that is a possible warranty claim, the struts are supposed to last longer than that.
Keep up the good work Ray.💪

  84. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars michael judge says:

Perfectivity, is not good, really, really good is better. Cuz they'll [ not sore how they are? ] expect it all the time. always what is good for you, you know what your doing " they do not ".

  86. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Presto GP says:

Over here in Scotland thats what we call an easy drop link, we either need to cut them off or heat them up so much that it ruins the rubber and grease in the balljoint, oh and thats after snapping various allen key bits on it.

  95. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Emperor Woof Woof says:

I always do maintenance part replacement in sets. If one goes bad than it is likely the others will also eventually fail. Always do all four brake pads rather than the two that need it.

  96. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Larkin says:

Ray almost a waste of new struts if you want my opinion, good for another 100k!
