Ray they make a tool that will slip over the end of the shock bolt that has a long handle with a pushbutton trigger. Each time you depress the trigger a hydraulic force builds up that causes 3 small tangs to extend that will engage the shock bolt end and prevent it from turning. It looks like a breaker bar in appearance. When you are done there is a simple push button that diverts the hydraulic pressure into a slightly larger chamber built into the tool, and just wiggling the tool will remove it. The button is similar to some rachets you have used. It extends through the tool. If you push it, it pops up on one side of the tool, push it again and it pops up on the other side of the tool head. The best part is the tool is only 4mm deep!
During my four year apprenticeship my instructor told me that the correct torque spec for any bolt was to tighten it up until it broke, then back it off 1/2 turn. Always worked for him.
Gotta stop watching your videos Ray. You said racism is dead. I disagree. I have been in too many situations where people said they wouldn't hire someone because of their race. It wasn't on TV. It was in person.
I really wish you would weld both of the things as i believe i would have refused to work on the racist crap car when i saw that sticker even thou it was a easy job
I couldn't really see what brand those vise grips were, but one lesson my dad taught me was to never mess around with anything other than Vise Grip brand Vise grips (he did not work for them and does not own stock, ha ha). They usually hold better even in "less than ideal torque load" applications He used to own a garage and has done manual labor all his life.
I see the whole strut replacement similar to installing a rebuilt half shaft rather than tearing it down to change one CV joint. The shop labor time is much more to repair than to just replace, and you'll get a more warrantable part.
I was enjoying these videos until your comment on the bumper sticker. I don't think you understand the sentiment of the bumper sticker, nor does any comment on a consumer's politics belong in a video like this. Bye, bye Ray, you lost a viewer
Ray, in regards to the racist sticker. Unfortunately our liberal socialists have turned our country into a society of victims. Thus by calling others racist it allows a certain segment of our society to feel justified in taking a victim stance.
Just a small suggestion about those gloves you wear. Don't. Just don't… Wash your hands if they get dirty. Unless, of course, you have little girly hands.
Secondly…. it doesn't real matter if you pre-fill oil filters or not. If you are worried about contamination then you better do an oil flush too make dam sure. As someone who' has always pre-filled it real makes no difference. Sorry too bust your little "I am better then thy" bubble.
I guess that sticker means if you’re against letting anybody across the border that wants across, you’re a racist. Currently the US Border Patrol is “ encountering” about 1800 per day. And probably three times a s many gotaways.
Customer needs to review some classic gangster movies. There is a reason why they drove Town Cars. Moving packages. BTW, we started your phone mocking in the hangar.
The person that would Allow this Message on their car is a Racist, Loving your Race over another is not Racism–God made us All a Different Color for a Reason, just like Blackbirds and Sparrows most always get alone but do not Roost together. I like Martin Luther's Statement, a person should be Judged by the Content of their Character not their Color…
Yeah – Racism is dead, mechanics never rip off anyone, but customers lie and… Ever think to notice how your views and opinions are shaped by your tiny bubble of experience?
If you wanted, you could take the time to learn about racism. It'd do you well. Or are you too objective and unemotional? Lofl
The procedure with the vice grips to keep the bolt from turning seems really awkward. The bolt could at least have had a flattened tip so that the grips would have had something to grip on. Or so it seems to a non-mechanic (moi).
That sticker shouldn’t trigger anyone but who the message is intended for. I like your persona and would like to think you’re an open minded kind of guy. But… your subtext ‘racism is dead’ is almost equivalent to the bumper sticker which is a ‘blanket statement’. To say racism is dead is deeply offensive to anyone who has experienced racism.
The sticker never said or inferred that everyone was racist but like my dad always said when you throw a rock the only one to holler will be the one it hit. "Kind of Telling"
I had a guess he was semi-knowledgeable friend replace a strut, but he failed. It was the same part as you installed. The whole thing spring and all. Said he got the bottom end free but couldn't get the top end to come out. Was having it replaced as I hit a cross street concave rain gutter pretty hard. But that shouldn't have caused any problem with the topside mount. The only thing I've been able to think was he didn't really think about it and probably didn't take those 3 nuts off and maybe only removed the single nut at the top of the cylinder. What duh ya tink was he both more inexperienced than he claimed or was he jus a doofahs?
Ray can you tell me what kind of flex head combination reversible ratchet wrenches you used in this. Not the “mountain wrenches” but the other one. I can’t find a set anywhere!!!!
Hey brother, love your videos informative AND your funny. I DO have a question about the bumper sticker you saw. You said people have to have the balls to back that stuff up. I'm just very curious on your stance. 😃👍🏾thanks
There is no scribe button tonight

It's a ford focus should be sent to the nearest junk yard and shot.

God bless America . .. . . .I bet THAT sounds racist to some .. . .

It has been my experience that those who scream racism the loudest, (i.e. this bumper sticker) , are usually the racists themselves
Am a recent subscriber and appreciate not only your mechanical skills, but also life skills!
You said swollen nuts 😬😆
Do you have a tiny socket go on top of the rear sock if you do it might be a little easier Ray

Other then that you are an excellent mechanic. .
Ray the sticker was talking about politicians being racist.
Have to buy pry bars.
They’re everywhere, They’re every where,

I'd like to think you listen to " salty " on your spare time. Love the content and attitude man. 👍
The new spring is better than an old spring. They do wear out.
Thank you for the honesty on the trunk sticker.
I liked that last tap with the hammer after the strut came loose. ‘And stay down!’

During my engineering apprenticeship, old hands never used a torque wrench.
They said they sensed when a bolt was reaching "the point of yield".
I prefer US term "sway bar" to UK term "anti-roll bar".
Just imagine American cars dancing around corners.
The proper tool for the proper job is more better
You know the proper tool for the proper job works more better
You know the proper tool for the proper job was properly

Hey Ray, been watching your videos for a while now, I watch every day, really injoy your content. Will continue to watch. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

I think it would be awesome to see the customers reactions to your videos. Especially when they want to deny that the repairs are necessary.
Your the man, calling BS when you see it!
Wants to talk about "offensive statement; shortly after he made fun of a part coming from China…. Think you have no room to talk there.
You really shouldn't give anyone ammunition for commentary. Blur crap like that bumper sticker out and make no comment.

I actually used a click tourqe wrench to do struts twice and broke 1 bolt each. Now I just use "german specs".
Here's a hint, buddy.
If you see a sign calling out racists, and you get offended by it? That says something about you, not the sign.

Hey, just my opinion.
The sticker never said or inferred that everyone was racist but like my dad always said when you throw a rock the only one to holler will be the one it hit. "Kind of Telling"
I find the racist to be the one screaming racism the loudest.
Racism isn’t dead & I do agree with the sticker tbh
