I haven’t seen what you did yet, but I might put a few quarts of diesel fuel or cleaner in there to sit for a few hours then drain it. Might just dissolve some sludge.
Àdd a comment…
Id recommend Rislone to remove the sludge. I use it every other oil change to keep sludge from building. But for him id say every oil change for at least 3 to 4 changes
Will we no that you are human now.
Eine job worth doing is worth doing right .I have heard that from my dad every time I wood work on my truck growing up.
Nobody sells a used car because it's the greatest vehicle on the road – they'd still be driving it.
Great job, as always, Ray! I look forward to every new video you post. Thanks for all you do.
Pay me now, or pay me later. Pull the damned pan!
Ok Ray, I'll take it from here….., no that wasn't dexcool coolant of which the manufacturer recommends. However, it is oat fluid (organic acid technology)
It's an universal fluid extended life. Mixes with all color coolants.good to go. Me personally, I would have used the O'Reilly brand. Just saying😁
How can you expect to get an accurate AC reading with black tape bandage on your finger?
Cut your index finger… no use showing us the middle finger…you did it.
"That poor green screwdriver".
Nothing better than a mechanics bandaid 😁
You got to remove the oil pan and clean it out
A dino shake
I thought the question of “Will Ray remove the oil pan?” said in serial announcer voice, “Stay tuned!” was rhetorical. Because if the job is going to be done right to ensure proper fixage, it would be dropped and cleaned thoroughly with many cans of brake clean or through the solvent tank. “Sludge in the pan you say? ABSOLUTELY clean it up and do the job right!” Not, “Eh, you know… I’ll take my chances.”
What happened to radiator flush. Given all the skum that came from the oil pan, some engine oil flush was in order.
Sometimes the 🛠️ god's require a Blood Sacrifice on some jobs 😉
People don't cha get their oil very often, do they?
Good work and lessons well learned by most who've watched, thanks.
tip to vehicle owners. keep fluids changed at least every 2 yrs youll avoid this many problems and your vehicle will give you many years of pleasure.
ray has the patience of a saint! nobody could do this much work n not get thoroughly disgusted by how ppl dont maintain their vehicles. its like a dr trying to fix a near death person. its gratifying to try but if its too far gone youre chasing a dream.
What a PITA job. So many things to go wrong or screw up or break. Great video.
it fell behind oil fill and fire wall 🤔 > thumbs up on a good job
I'm still thinking about all that Clean Oil mixing with that Crud in Bottom of Oil Pan, it makes no Sense to me for the guy to have you fix 2/3rd of Problem and not finish the whole Repair–some people just cannot See the Whole Picture…
Back in the Old Days would would sometimes Flush the Crankcase with Kerosene but it cost as much as gas these days…
It amazes me how you can remember where to put all these bolts, parts— 30-40- years ago, vehicles were rather simple even tho they still had all the comforts that most needed. I most assuredly would not have a desire to be a Modern Day Mechanic…
This is the work of a SKILLED Mechanic. Great video series.
To do the job right you have to takeoff that whole pan you cannot let it go like that there’s no way it will come back.
But why did the coolant sludge up and almost solidify? Just age of it? I have heard that mixing different colors of coolants can do that too.
Needs engine flush. People don't realise the engine oil needs changing regularly. It lubricates all important parts of the engine.
Think wingnut is in t'stat housing.
That was one epic journey to see this one run. Gravely disappointed that the pan was not dropped. Were that my car it certainly would have been. Then again, my old beastie is older than this and is nearing 400,000 miles. At the next major service the oil pump is being replaced, too. Better safe than sorry
Er, isn't this an electronic ignition car? If so, why does it still have a mechanical distributor? (I'm not a mechanic, obviously, so don't be too harsh on me. 🙂 )
Note: The last car I worked on, I could pop the hood and still see pavement.
That guy just bought this, after what you did to it, its not so bad. good thing he brought it in. wasn't long before that thing was going to blow up
add 5 quarts Kerosene run for a couple minutes then drain sludge be gone
Should have used your borescope camera.
Them engines are pretty tough. But you still have to change the oil. the thermostat regularly. Only seen one radiator full of rust. This one's not that bad. People have a beer instead of fixing their vehicles.
You did not use Duct Tape? Bad , bad, bad.
So much for preventative maintenance.
Yes pull the pan. Clean oil pickup an screen,
Worth watching. Good advice get it looked at first.
I am soooooo glad I got out of cars, then bikes and then jet engine fuel control. Happy man.
Uuuhhh not good..abort…abort
You should have filled it with water several times ran it and drained it until it was clearer then put the antifreeze in
you did not clean the holding tank it was nasty
I just read a few comments about the difficulty of removing that oil pan – wasn't aware of that
I watched all 3 videos of this repair, and was glad that I keep up with maintenance and likely won't run into this problem. Given what had already been invested in the vehicle, I am surprised the owner didn't agree to dropping and cleaning the oil pan – ran out of money I suspect.
Great videos Ray – these and all the previous I have watched.
Please do not rip my head off for not removing the oil pan! I tried and the guy said no. He’s going to be back and I’m going to do some oil flush procedures to try and clean out the sludge. He knows the risks!
