Kinda wondering why you change gaskets on everything you remove but the intake in this case.
Also the hoses where undamaged but you replaced them anyway ?
I guess Ford only sell bulk parts to make more money like everyone else. What would you receive if you only wanted to change the thermostat ?

  2. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars RadioReprised says:

I vote FORD for the ugliest, poorest layout and Craptastic-Plastickiest underhood EVER! And if you want to double your productivity Ray……listen to Classic Rock while wrenching!

  3. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Spacecoastz says:

Had that engine in my Ford Sport Trac….even trying to replace the PVC valve was near impossible. Terrible design of hoses on top of hoses, etc.

  4. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars cjr1881 says:

What was wrong with the old hoses? Not your money I guess, just replace everything?

  5. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mark Collins says:

The 3 litter was a little easier to work on the top end but the 4 liter has its own issues. The plastic water components just make me laugh. Some replacement items are made of metal!

  6. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars krist madsen says:

I wonder how hard it would be to make a car so that anything could be replaced without removing anything else.

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Kasual Skeptik says:

OMG, your willingness to go so far down the rabbit hole to complete a job is amazing…
You inspires us timid folk to go "down the rabbit hole" 😉
Remind me to NEVER try to change the thermostat housing on a Ford Ranger…. Yikes !

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Nawrocki says:

Instead of that extension prop my grandfather would have his trusty block of wood 🪵 🙄

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars raphael bussy says:

Amazing how you can figure out the chain of what’s next, dude at the beginning “you beat the the air gun by hand!))

  10. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dave Drew says:

Why did you not just get a new state and gasket and save all this work ?

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars MotoActionADV says:

Haha, I have a ranger with the 4.0 SOHC engine and I knew what part was going to be leaking as soon as I saw the title 😀

  12. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Craig Wood says:

One thermostat, $10.00. Have to template whole assembly instead. Have to dissamble one quarter of the engine for thermostat. Instant death to swine engineers who don't have to repair these vehicles.

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ben Cappello says:

Constantly peddling those hose clamp pliers!!! Then you use needle nose!! Lol. Great video.

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars skunkhome says:

This is the kinda of crazy design that whispers in an owners ear, “you don’t need to change that thermostat until it fails”. Not built to benefit the customer.

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Shames Planters says:

Can you show the drag Mark's on the pill of the T-stat🥶🐲

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Herminio Aponte says:

I have never seen you use a pressure tester?

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars samuel haynes says:

More plastic on the motor shouldn't be plastic.

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Tidewater Tail Chaser says:

A mechanics worst enemy: a jealous designing engineer

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars NPDarkside13 says:

I would have recommended a metal/all aluminum replacement. Those plastic housings are junk.

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Tracey Jones says:

Oh my God the way they make motors today everything so compact crazy that you just had to disassemble all that over a thermostat.

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Martin Naylor says:

Think all rays fans should contact YouTube and get them to award rays employers with a certificate for the most annoying phone ring on YouTube 🤣🤣🤣

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Joseph bradshaw says:

That’s one of the 4 liters I always dreaded fixing, the inline was even worse.

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jon Clark says:

I wonder if that 4.0 has the timing chain in the back of the motor. They were not Notorious for that.

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jon Clark says:

Thank you for posting this you are very helpful and a good mechanic

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Don says:

    License plate says CATFISH

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Alec Rollins says:

Ok, the OEM use of plastic parts is getting stupid…FORD! (Cough)

Really? Using a seamed, plastic welded part subjected to high temps and pressure, that then elbow? It's losing and destined to fail in a couple years.

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Hans Grubber says:

    Too-Roo-Roo-Roo! 😀

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Byron Ochoson says:

So I've been binge watching your vids… To the point where my wife in the next room over go's "Dodadododadooo" when your phone rings. Hahahaha 🤣 great content. Thanks

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars TonyS says:

I’d like to know if this is how most mechanics operate or is Ray just rock star?

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Monti Mitchell says:

I’m sure I’m not alone in saying this but I cringe with every bolt you put up on the air intake above the hood for crying out loud get a magnet bowl
Big fan wish you were closer to Nashville

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Evergreen641 says:

You had like 4 hose clamps. You didn't use your hose clamp pliers once.

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars thomas kosvic says:

I can't believe that Ford repair manuals (or online repair help) don't say what you need to remove to get access to swap-out and put in a new part. That sems to be needed with compactness of current engine compartments. I seem to remember that the old Chilton manuals provided step-by-step procedures to access major components.. Hard to believe that removing an intake manifold would be necessary to swap out an engine thermostat housing.

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Steven Capuano says:

This just reminded me of my car. Had been wondering why the coolant reservoir was going empty and the radiator was low. Found out the reservoir spout where the hose to the radiator has a hole in it.

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Hola! Stephen Smith says:

So can you no longer just change the thermostat and fit a new gasket!!!! A whole plastic body change instead and the old one goes to landfill, Ray does it not drive you mad our poor planet!!!

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars DarkestHour752 says:

Um surface tension is what happens at the surface of water due to hydrogen bonding. What your talking about there is friction, thanks though

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Veljko Stejić says:

    yo that coolant is drippin'

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Robert Charles says:

There are aftermarket metal thermostat housings that you can buy for those crappy plastic ones. Bought one for a 2005 Ford Mustang with V6 engine.

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Terry Robertson says:

Those 4.0 SOHC thermostat housings are a known high failure item. I replaced one for a friend of mine on a Mustang with the same engine, Fortunately that installation did not require messing with the intake system so it was a lot easier to do. I did the work in my friends parking lot and I managed to bring enough tools with me to get it done in one trip!

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars bryce m says:

When did all these parts, become made out of plastic?…😣

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Quik Six says:

I noticed that many intakes you've removed or partially remove, you do not replace the intake gaskets. Are many of these reusable?

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Nature and Physics says:

As my ol' uncle used to say, "they shoehorn in these darn big engines!"

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars T C says:

Replace it with an aluminum aftermarket housing. Seams don't leak.

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dustin B says:

That plastic replacement will leak again. Probably the most common thing to go wrong with these 4.0's but there are cast replacements opposed to plastic that hold up better now for these motors.

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bee4PC goldrule. says:

Plastic thermostat housing is ford junk.

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars James Koralewski says:

Could you have found a cheaper cordless electric drill to buy? Was this from the dollar store?

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Luis G says:

    Look at that belt

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Stunt Driver says:

This is why I only drive Toyota/Lexus. Ford's are the biggest pieces of sh_t – they use more plastic then BMW.
