Wow, a mechanic with integrity! Hard to find these days. Wish you were in my area. I love how you salvaged the plastic sheathing on the junk yard door to use in your repair vehicle. You didn't have to do that and the customer would never know the difference. You went the extra step when you didn't have to. Loved your video.
Where is that junk yard?
Score got the window and a New old Stock Vapor Shield for the Door Nice Pretty easy Repair Eric O did you keep the glass you took out to repair ? @SouthMainAutoRepairLLC
I had this same problem in my 2003 Ram. For me it happened when I tried to roll the window down with ice/frost on it. The repair? A good bead of the black windshield sealant that my local auto glass shop uses to install windshields. Put that in the sash, put the glass in the sash, rolled it up and left it alone for a day or so to let it cure. That was at least 7 years ago, and it’s still working.
Any clue if an '02 would be the same before I tear into it?
Very rarely do I watch a entire video. This was very enjoyable to watch . Thank you for being you and your family . God bless you sir
Ya know! I'm surprised at that glass didn't shatter with that crack in it – I always thought that the side glasses were tempered safety glass
Mr O you are such a fantastic mech and not a car guy. Well guess what? I am not a car guy either, but when a teen I was 60 years ago. But being embarrassed when ya'll dinna see a crack? Don't even think about it Mr O. I want to get a paramotor and if I even mention it my wife starts hitting me. I might not be a car guy but little powerful motors would be delightful. See these things can only be flown at daybreak and just before dark when the air is not turbulent or the chute might collapse. Then a paraglider pilot was just killed here last week I have to not let her see that stuff.
i looked back and i couldnt see the crack either , even when you were holding it up when you got back to the shop .. but oh well, good vid man. keep doing the awesome work that you do!
Don't beat yourself up,you were keeping an eye on your child and dog and doing a video in the rain.Loved when she got amazed at one vehicle on top of another .Thanks for posting the video.Learned a lot.
For a long time, you couldn't have a crack like that in side or rear windows because they were tempered safety glass so I can't blame you for missing it. With side-curtain airbags the side window can't just shatter into pieces or the side airbags wouldn't work properly so they're laminated safety glass.
The most contentious mechanic I have ever known
Wouldnt the be simply awesome everytool you could ever want and all the cars you could ever want to work on or fix
love your honesty, Great repair
Love that you left the mistake in the video most would have fix their mistake and edit the video. Also the getting the the moister barrier for the customer was very nice. Most mechanic would give too shots about stuff like that. Two thumbs up on being a honest mechanic. Hope there were more like you. I always try to do the same thing when I go to junk yard (heaven on earth for some). Get little things that probably don’t matter that much but I would put it or replace on my own vehicle.
i get de ja vu dreams alot
Dorman sells these for some vehicles. Yes, I know…Dorman. But in a pinch… The originals are made in 2 pieces that are spot welded together. They frequently break apart because the welds are too cold, no strength. Slamming the door with the window part way down seems to break them.
The best part was the editing, or the lack of it when it comes to the mistake that was made
Hi Ihave a 2004 ford F 150 with 5.4 It has a buch of codes
p02195 p0352 p0340 p0202 p0201 p0021 p0011 p2198 p2196 2195 p0351
any advice how top start this diagnostic?? thanks
Great job. You just saved me a whole lot of time on my Dodge Dakota truck 2002 with a window problem.
Damn I wish this dude was in western NY, I'd come to him for work on my stuff.
EDIT: welp… No fkn shit he's in wny and a hour 16 mins away…. I'll be using you for stuff I can't do if I can drive it to you…. No shit can't believe your semi local
Eric your stock just went way up. I have the highest respect for you and the fact that you left the mistake in the video. It is an invaluable learning opportunity for a D.I.Y. amateur like myself. One of the best videos!
WHEN YOU BUY A DODGE YOU HAVE TO BUY TWO ONE TO DRIVE ONE FOR PARTS SMART RIGHT
We all make mistakes.
I like the way you pay attention to detail you got the window and went that extra step to get the plastic door insulation for your customer best mechanic on you tube and i like your relationship with Mrs. O
I would have just cut two pieces off from a bicycle innertube, Slice through it, And glue and wedge it in the gap clamping it onto the glass, The missing plastic sheet could be replaced by slightly overlapping weatherproof tape
That was a sweet intro.
Twenty years in glass business and I have never seen a crack in a tempered door glass. All the glass in a car is tempered except the windshieldin American cars.
Eric O. Ya think maybe your rushing yourself too much and not focused on what ya have in your hands, and what your doing? Glad you were able to get another window at the junk yard! Bet you don't do that again! Catch ya on the next video.
4 years late to this party,, enjoyable and informative. but i DID yell at the screen " cause it's man stuff, at the junk yard",, Mrs O shoulda thrown a verbal dounut at ya!! lol
Bling bling
If I was Pope, you would be granted the sainthood of diagnosticians and trustworthy dependable mechanics, no problem.
Surprised at that crack- side windows are tempered glass and they usually shatter into a million pieces as soon as there is any break in the surface.
You have one beautiful family… =)
watch for the husky they will run and you cant stop her
My driver side window would fall forward and wouldn't roll up either, after taking it apart i noticed the same thing "window glass clip" they called it was broken, i ended up replacing the whole window, then seen on amazon or something like that where they do sell those independent of the window, but i don't know what kind of glue they use.
I would have missed that 3" crack in the glass too. That window was filthy.
some days you're the hammer. Some days you're the nail.
Well Eric you said you had bad luck with dropping things near glass… Maybe you broke it 😂
I'm sure it was there the whole time just didn't see it until you cleaned off the dirt, dirt hides a lot of things
It happens to the best of us pick and pull Cumberland R.I.
Front bumper on the burgundy Dodge Durango any good?
I drive an 04 with the hemi, I’ve had the window issue before
Eric, Two words …. Epoxy putty. I use it for everything.
