Hi Eric…been subscribed for a long time…I'm a wrench turner but recently getting into the world of ECM/TCM ect. This vid rolled around and caught my attention by the J2534 and Dodge in the title. I am somewhat familiar w/ Tech Authority having purchased my factory service and wiring manuals from them. I was interested to see if my car had updates (2020) and found out that a J2534 device was required to use Tech Authority. I noticed in the vid that the selection for the pre 2009 had only one pass thru device available (Bosch). I am just wondering if prior to buying the subscription to Tech Authority did you know that a specific pass thru device was required…did the website tell you? I would hate to buy a 3-day subscription only to find out I needed a device I didn't have. I use HP Tuners to data log and have their interface cable but after watching this vid I suspect that it is not going to work w/ the Tech Authority program. (Concur w/ the lack of support unless you are a dealer!). Thanks

Where did you buy the Bosch device? And how much is the ecm file from chrysler?

The only Chrysler cars I ever owned were all completely unreliable pieces of crap, and Chrysler jerked me around royally on every one of them (especially a P.O.S. 1970 Dodge Challenger). I would never again purchase ANY Chrysler product, or trust any Chrysler dealership. On the other hand, I’ve never owned a bad GM automobile, a truly memorable Ford, or anything less than a wonderful Honda. I still love my 1976 Firebird Formula, my 1985 Firebird TransAm, my 1999 Chevy Tahoe Vortec 4×4, and my 2014 Honda CRV. I do all my own maintenance and most repairs including engine and transmission rebuilds. Modern auto computer circuitry is proving very challenging to me, and SMA has been invaluable in keeping me current and confident in my old age. Kudos to Eric O. and his colleagues. Dr. K.

Great video! Thanks for the info. Does anyone know where that old stand alone version of the Chrysler J2534 Flash application can be downloaded. Its just the flashing tool and not the firmware so hopefully someone can point me into a direction to find it. I am trying to flash a 01 2500 Ram truck as the computer had to be replaced. The uiTech 2 software can be used to flash it but creates an extra cost for something that used to be included in the 1 day pass to techAuthority. Thanks to anyone that might be able to help me out!!

Can you install and program a used ECU on a 2017 Dodge Charger?

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars James T says:

Would p2004/p2017 cause the car to not start? I swapped out my intake manifold and the runner actuator, cleared codes, tried to start, no start and codes immediately come back. Do I need to have someone update the pcm?

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Shaun O says:

Unfortunately, this method to reflash with Chrysler products will die with 2019 itself. Starting in January 2020, you can still reflash a Mopar with your J2534 pass thru device. But, you'll need to download and install WiTECH 2.0 for J2534 applications. My shop just went ahead and bought a Micro Pod so I don't have to relearn how to get my J-Box working with them yet. (We bit the bullet on the Micro Pod because you're still limited to PCM/TCM reflashes with 09 and older vehicles through J2534. The Micro Pod will do ANY module that needs a reflash.) But a certain amount of a new process will remain the same for all of us in the aftermarket. Whether you buy a Micro Pod or stick with your J-box, you'll still need to get set up with a WiTECH login and a redundant authenticator program installed on your smart phone or tablet. (If you buy and set up your Micro Pod through AE tools, they can get you set up so the authenticator runs right on your laptop. The conveniences that come with that are greater if you have more than one tech that's going perform reflashes and their technical support in general has been fucking awesome for me.) You'll need to buy a minimum three day subscription for $50 to WiTECH and then you still need to go into tech authority and buy a minimum one day subscription for $27 to get your flash files. That's a little weird to deal with in its own way. If you've paid for your tech authority subscription, you then go back into WiTECH and log back into your tech authority subscription through WiTECH and get your calibrations through the topology map itself. I imagine it has to be very similar for those of you who are going to stay with your J-box. As much as the new hoops to jump through suck, it does eliminate troubles like moving flash files to the right folder, older Java versions, and you can now use Google Chrome if you want. Good luck to everybody that has to make this same jump.

  10. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jesus Guerrero says:

Does this apply to the 96 jeep cherokee PCM do you have to reflash it to your vin?

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars matcotoolsi says:

I was trying to flash a pcm on a RAM 5500, but I have so many problems with the java, some times I guess the java wasn't installed correctly or something happens and another times java blocks the calibration to be downloaded I don't know what to do, I'm using a windows 10 laptop 64 bits maybe that's the issue?

Short as possible. I've a 2007 Dodge Caliber 2.0L SXT. The money light is for a P2006 IMRC stuck closed. Based on your video I put a new OEM intake manifold in it. Two questions. The car is in Mexico. The local Dodge dealer in Mexico said that based on the VIN, the ECM can NOT be updated in Mexico because it was made in the US. I took it to the the local recommended mechanic that said he would update the ECM. I don't know how to verify that it was done. The local dealer said that the car won't function at all if I put a new manifold on without updating the ECM. (Computer) The car is now back from the shop and working fine.
Will the car work if the manifold is replaced without the update?
Do I need to take it to a Dodge dealer in the states to be able to determine if the computer update has been done?

That j box will it flash as well as the factory tool I am sure it can't but what is the difference between the 2 ???

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Douglas McDonald says:

Had this on 2008 Avenger for a friend. Did the valve and the intake, and then he wouldn't do the flash. Guess what? CEL came on again.

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Cody’s Auto Diagnostics & Programming LLC says:

I think it’s easier to pull the cal id in vehicle and put the cal is or part number in the box instead of using the vin. Using vin will show multiple flashes like your video shows. Putting the cal id in will show exactly what the new number is and will only give you one result which is correct for the vehicle you are working on

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Doe says:

What is different about the new intake, compared to the old? Can't the old one be cleaned up and reused again? Just clean the carbon build up and reuse.or did they make changes to the airflow? Or do they just want to sell you a new one, plus labor, I can understand reprogramming.

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Kirk Matheson says:

Whoa! I guess you wouldn't want your laptop, to hang or re-boot during the flash process, unless it allows you to start from scratch if there is a failure.

Eric, I need your opinion concerning a Knock Sensor of an 07 Ram 5.7 How does one know if its a true engine knock or just a bad knock sensor?? I have never heard any knocks or abnormal noises from my engine. Can you help me? I'd bring the truck to you, but New York and Oklahoma aren't exactly next door to each other.

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars SKMC69 says:

Those GPECs have a bad habit of getting DTCs and adaptives locked inside the memory.  You'll see it mostly after a T-body failure, but every so often after the intake failure.  When you're doing one of these NEVER ignore a key off or on request if you get prompted. You'll end up with a P0600 series code and you'll have to flash it again.

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Vern Hood says:

Have you considered the Drew Tech Cardac Plus 2? I don't do a lot of programming either but their tool seems much easier to use than the Bosch and they are always willing to help with programming. I use it for mostly GM, Chrysler, Honda, Bmw. Any issues and they have Happily helped.

hi Eric. just wondering, can you make your videos any sharper? i know you got it up to 1080 pixels but it's still looking more on the blurry side. compare ETCG's video quality for example. maybe youre overlooking a camera setting or a youtube setting for higher bitrate or your camera isn't capable of higher bitrate…or something. i'm not a camera expert. maybe someone could chime in on that. thanks, take care.

Eric, you could use a double boot option to solve compatibility issue to run different softwares rather than having multiple computers.
