In this video I have a look at a Dodge ram 3500 Dually that has a customer complaint of, "the wipers only work sometimes." Seems easy right? As long as you stick to your diagnostic plan you will come to the right answer fast, every time.

You never proved ground.
Great Video Erik, just a quick question, can you share the model and brand of the flashlight you used here, i will appreciate thanks
Usually with wipers I check ground and fuses before getting into the cowl and yes often check the washer if its attached to the wipers I have worked on some that the washer was separate or just a squeeze bulb type on the floor and be careful with those they have a pressure regulator on them and they often rupture when extreme pressure is applied
Glad I found this one. My wipers work fine but I have some mouse crud under that cowling. I was avoiding it but now see it comes right off. BTW…I too knew Mrs. "O" was going to hit that horn.
Man o Man share with me the details of that torch! very bright, magnetic, small, I want one . I am a fan by the way.
Yes lots of mechanic would have put the shot gun on it
Sounds like over kill. Check the fuse them check the motor. Done
now i know how to easily test wipers never had to but if don't forget thanks
Love how you breakdown electrical work and it always seems most of the work you do are Chrysler vehicles. However, 90% of these Chrysler vehicles that you work on have electrical diagnosis and wiring or parts repaired or replaced. I never see you replace alternators or batteries on these Chryslers. It is frequently the TIPM, ground wiring, or an open circuit in the wiring of any Chrysler vehicle you work on. Must sometimes drive you nuts, Eric but because of how you methodically break it down, you make it look easy.
I rarely see you work on other mechanical components on Chryslers. Chrysler better improve their electrical systems but it seems like most of the Chrysler vehicles you work on, from what I see are the Chrysler vehicles made from 2005 to 2010.
Thanks for your wiper repair diagnostic video using the schematic; also your load 4 amp test of the ground using the light was a good reminder to use sufficient amp draw for valid load test.
Aint that a pain. All it needs is a wiper motor. I would sell them 2. One for the front and one for the back.
Even though I want to make a good video I would’ve just tap the motor with a hammer
Rule number one never mess with the person who cooks your food!
Work SMART, not HARD!!
Wish I could use my noggin as well as you. Thanks a lot on your ways of teaching!
My ram 2500 has no windshield wipers and no brake lights at same time fuses are good. I am suspecting a bad combo switch. Weird thing is I have a trailer brake controller and it still lights up when I step on the brake but it doesn't send power to the trailer brakes or tail lights either, unless I slide the brake switch on it then the trailer brakes and the brake lights on the truck and trailer all work.
LOL We both know!!
Show The End Results Of The New Wiper Motor In Action….
Ack! You're using pen instead of pencil on the wiring diagram! 🙂
Great to know about pulling the wiper blades upward about 30 degrees before pulling the slider and getting the #%@ things to come off.
Excellent diagnosis great thanks gerbilly.
Excellent troubleshooting.
02 was the beginning of the 3rd gen and 01 was the last of those 2nd gens
Ya sticking the hand in there is no fun, luckily I had my dad by to turn it off. But damn and thankfully they don't have that much torque. I know I got lucky, and it wasn't in the spots that can cut the digits off by chance, but still not fun one damn bit.
You mentioned NAPA and Advance. You have a world pac in your area?
You must be happy to have your Topside Creeper back. That would make that job a lot more comfortable.
Good call, thanks for the video as always !
I like you train of thought and your theory teachings
Great video Eric O
Where to you get your diagrams from like a site or top secret stuff.
I just did a video of installing a new wiper motor on my Trooper and I used a reman. Kinda worried if it will last but I Can’t run down to the corner Isuzu dealer 😂 great video Eric o
I use the id vip method inspect, diagnose, verify, isolate, pinpoint…which is what you just did…thanks Eric and Mrs O great video except for that smell it’s stuck in my nose.🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮
eric where do you get your electrical diagrams from?
How could she make such a mistake?
Maybe you're going to have to let Mrs O go?
I have an '02 2500 diesel with the quad cab, just starting to show rust in the usual places, frame is in great condition. Called Safelite to replace the windshield.
Guy around 25 spent about 1/2 hr trying to get the wiper blades off and gave up. I asked if there was another tech he could call for some tips. Crickets.
Two days later guy around 50 shows up and pops the wiper blades right off. Why didn't the young guy call him for advice?
Well with a mouse smell I was expecting a chewed wire and a nest.
I've never felt a "I don't think I can" attitude from you and I doubt I ever will. Thanks Eric!!
I didnt know they were married!!
Thanks for the videos.
Crazy. I just diagnosed a wiper motor today. Question. Who do you use for your schematics? Just curious. Like the layout.
I'm having a similar issue with mine. High and low work fine but when on any intermittent speed the wipers park at random spots on the windshield. Seemed like a no-brainer bad switch so I replaced it and no change. Guess it's time to test the motor.
great video
The horn trick never gets old Mrs O. Made me laugh again. Great vid Mr O
Thanks for sharing another cool video.
i was betting on bad ground in that set of 67 grounds that dodge puts in one eyelet under one stud..my ram 1500 washer motor did that to me…nice job eric.
Well there’s your problem ! Love it Eric keep up the great content. Ireland’s too far away to book a service but for sure if I was in NY I’d look you up
do you not use autozone at all?
Another great video Eric. Many teachable moments. My favorite as a naive mechanic was that a suddenly activated wiper assembly could result in loss of fingers. Thanks for the heads up to which now appears intuitve but I didn't appreciate beforehand. Thank you
yea one of the things that makes you great is that you follow a very clear and consistent process to diagnose these electrical issues. I have to diagnose the blower motor on my car and I know exactly what order to check things in.
