This made me nostalgic for my Saturn SL. The strut tower mounts rusted out, one dropping the front corner about five inches when it failed as I pulled into a parking lot.
When the mechanic took a look at repairability, they found a lot more subframe rust than the car was worth.
That's like $100 down the drain in today's fuel prices….😂
Fuel pump replacement is never fun, some of the newer cars he Ave a hatch in the trunk or under the back seat for fuel pump access. Otherwise it's a real pain if you have to drop the gas tank.
I am still amazed at how many older vehicles I see on your channel that are practically rust free. I always assumed that the salt in the air would rust cars like road salt. Guess you don't live close enough to the ocean.
Naturally, the sentient fuel pump waited until the tank was slap full before deciding to quit.
And lo, the car gods have made their presence known.
If you were here in Itlay the spilled gas would cost far more than the pump's cost😁

Fuel pumps only go out when the tank is full !!! Always !!! Gas will always spill all over you no matter how careful you are !!! Fuel pumps NEVER just fit right on the tank, there is always pushing required and force to make it line up correctly !!! Gas tanks never just go back in where they came from, there is ALWAYS jiggling, shifting, pushing, pulling, twisting and needs a third hand to get the screws started !!!!! Try doing this outside in the cold, with wind blowing the snow, dripping water from the vehicles body while on jack stands and you laying on your back with a non-magnetic flashlight !!!!!! Been there, done that !!! 😒🤮😵😖😩😡🤬🖕
Little late now but your Jack plate is still at an angle from when you were trying to empty the filler hose.
Easy way to diagnose a faulty fuel pump is to see if there is a full tank of fuel. If it’s full, it’s a fuel pump.
Must be an unwritten rule that starting bolts with an impact wrench/driver never stripped/cross-threaded the threads/bolts. ALWAYS START BY HAND.
That’s quite a job! I got pretty good at replacing the pump on my 1990 Lincoln Town car (at about 135,000 miles). Hardest part was removing the SS connector with that plastic tool, lots of wiggling. This was done in an unseated garage during the winter, in the Chicago area. Five months later I had to do it again (purchased first pump from an auto parts store, second was from a Ford dealer) the auto parts store would not honor the warranty. The first pump was squeeling before it quit. The first replacement from the auto parts store, started squealing immediately when it was installed. I don’t see any dealer parts in this video, can you make a comments where parts should be purchased? Thanks…Jim
luckily those cars are light in weight…lol I have a 95 SL2 model with LSD and 5 speed manual that I have with performance suspension, port and polish engine build, dual intake cams, and a carbon fiber hood. Turning it into a tuner car gradually, light and nimble like Bruce Lee…lol
Stuff rag in the Edd China brand rubber glove then stuff into fuel pipe = no drippy. Or glove stretched over pie and zip tye
When I used to take a fuel tank off I used to keep some balloons in my toolbox to stretch over the hole if the tank was full.. they eventually melted like latex gloves but kept the fuel in what removing 😁

I remember changing a fuel filter under a car when I worked at JCPenny/Firestone in 82/83. Had fuel all down my arm and shirt (long sleeves in NJ winter). Got it done and see a coworker heading towards me with a lit cigarette. I never ran so fast in my life while yelling at him to stay the hell away from me as I ran to locker room and into the shower. Jumped in shirt and all.

Not sure if the fuel filter line was on correctly as you can see it come nowhere near the ridge on the single stem, When Ray fitted it i dont think it was quite home, But still love your vids , Keep em comin

It could have been a clogged fuel filter, or a bad relay though.
I have changed 6 fuel pumps in my life. Two of my vehicles thank God, was on a nissan. Just remove the back seat, and metal plate. That day, I felt spechial 🤣. And yes ,the other 4 were 3/4 to full. I empty Empty And cleaned out the tanks. Which is a PITA.
Love your content brother. My heart goes out to all mechanics. I could not do what yall do on a daily basis! The sheer aggravation of constant model changes and customers, hell to the no. I don't have that kind of patience for that!

The fuel pump in my 2002 Ford Taurus took a shit right after I filled up the tank..I pulled out the back seat cushion and cut a hole in the floor,I removed the pump and used a shaker siphon hose to get most of the gas out..
Hope you done that job at no cost, that was a paycheck worth of fuel you spilt 😭

I had to change the fuel level Guage on my old truck. I ran that bitty to the light and beyond intentionally before dropping it!
Being a Saturn owner myself, I am obligated to mention that is an SC1. The SL was a sedan with 4 doors. Great cars… too bad there are only about 5 in the United States that were taken care of. Great Video!
