As requested by the viewers we get a closer look at the broken valve in the 2009 Ford Escape 2.5 that we diagnosed in a previous video. Some viewers commented that they could see the broken piece in the cylinder and on top of the piston. Time to find out if they were seeing things! -Enjoy!

Cut chain and cam cover. But Mrs. Jones I saved you an hour of billable time.
Good job on the quick teardown and follow though on the root cause of the misfire. Plan "C" was funny. Typical overworked little engine to many heat cycles on the valves without adequate cool down perhaps one can only guess. The line I saw on #4 exhaust ex valve might have been carbon line but it looked like more than a shadow or carbon. It does however lead me to wonder about the L4 vs V6 each has their flaws.
I thought I saw a similar crack started on number 4 cylinder exhaust valve face
Great video thanks
A new head on these is $800.00 US… A used engine is $650.00 US… Takes me 7 hours to change the engine….
If you change the head with that keyless crank..It takes 5 hours. If you know what the hell you're doing. As you do it wrong. You will be buying a new head again….
Another Quality Video… Very interesting head removal, I have the same engine in my 2014 Ford Mondeo. And you used a scrap engine as a teaching tool for all of us to see. I would have used it to teach my daughters how an engine works.. and get them to strip it down.
Keep up the good work mate.

If you just hadn't scratched the little light…can't you order a new lens? A magnet would have caught the broken valve parts. What was the cylinders' compression readings? Just five bolts holding that engine on.
This is a wonderful beginning
You are the best yes we love u u take us to mechanic shop
no one has anything bad to say. thats so cool. so the problem was she needed a new piston? or a chunk of that thing was missing?Because the car started up. What would have happened if she just kept driving it like that? Couldn't she have just used the money she spent on a new engine to put a down payment on a new car?You made the right choice but did she?
wonder………did anything drop in when changing the plugs…..or….was the plug change sooooo ignored did a piece of plug fall in adhering to valve.
I heard from a fan of this channel who said as he visited the local steel refinery, he swears he smelt that engine.
When he says "teardown", he MEANS it! TEAR down!
Where is Mrs.O?
What do yo want me to do lady chop it off ?
YEAH
What da ya want me to do lady chop it off ?
YEAH
Show where the valve broken piece is ?
it was the reflection of the light on those marks on the cylinder wall i seen
Best video to warrant the use of Seafoam to your fuel monthly.
It's scary to think what this world would be like if not for the few car doctors who truly care, and are conscientious, (maybe perfectionist) and motivated to make the extra effort, bc for most of us, our livelihood and survival depends on a vehicle.
What could have caused that value to crack like that?
I believe they saw the valve notch on the piston. I thought it was a chunk of valve at first but realized it wasnโt the right shape. It was kind of a trick to the eye for a second though! You put out some good footage Dr. Obachocka! Haha. As always!
That 4 valves per cylinder would have made a nice engine for an early Lotus Elan or Europa.
Eric, need to get ahold of you. Love your videos, gots lots of info when working on cars. Got a few questions on a certain veichles. One of them is a 2004 f150 5.4L 3v engine. No signal ground driver from all COP's. Checked wiring on all the grounds and positive 12v for the COPs,a all good Changed PCM. Same problem. Need to know if you have any pointers and if you could help me out on this one?
BOOM. Thanks for the tear down class. I don't watch tv anymore. I choose to educate myself.
GO CAVE MAN GO
There's always that one guy-and his brother
I like plane โCโ for Cut it off!
O how I love the way ole Eric went all Hannibal Lecter with that cam holder bolt
Can you help me to find if it's a short in the wire harness
I see that you are good and I have a problem with my 2005 ford escape 3.0 and put a new computer in and coils and still have a misfire on 5

Crack smokin ford engineers!
As a home mechanic, hence my username, it just doesn't seem normal if I don't catch myself drawing blood and/or spewing the occasional "F-bomb" from time to time. Thanks for the video, just something else to watch for on the wife's Edge with the 2.0 EcoBoost. Love the "screwdriver" too.
I don't believe that a part of the valve broke off, looks more like it just burnt out to me.
Thatโs a good quote!! 1200 used engine replace! I had a dealership quote my 1,300.00 to tear into my engine to find out why it was misfiring. My fren told me I could buy a used engine for that price and drop it in. But I ended tearing into my engine myself and fixed the misfire a stuck valve was the problem. The rocker was off I put it back on and sprayed ol wd and rotated the crank and the valve became un seized and my truck is running goot!
No guilt Eric O. Itโs not like youโre the Fairy Godfather of Northern New York State. You run a business, youโre supposed to make a profit for your work.
Most Fords are in the fast lane for the scrap heap or broken on the shoulder.
After seeing the masterful execution of the plan c's, I finally have the confidence to take up the challenge of ' if I can do it, then you can do it'.
no conserns
Replaced engine @32k good idea.
You're the man,and a awesome mechanic ๐๐
Mine has 310K miles. Don't consider 170K that many miles
I dont see alot of trolls in your comments, but then I dont spend alot of time going through them. My advise is click ignore on the detractors, they probably didnt get enough hugs from mommy. Keep up the good work and honorable practices. Much love from a subber from another mubber just across the street in OR REEE GONE.
Good follow up.
"plan c" baaaahahahaha my fav
Let get a โ little screwdriver โ ha
I love plan โ C โ
You should have SUPERCHARGED the used engine ๐. Kidding! Good VID ๐
Eric, how do you go about balancing work demands and family time. As stated this couple only has this car, a miss on a motor thats going to be replaced isn't a large issue. At what point do you say hey this is family time and the customer can use the vehicle as is until we can replace the said part or get a rental? I ask as I don't know work life balance.
