GM cars and trucks have a shitty design for the door switches and buttons. What not have small screws. Honda vehicles i know use screws.

Sorry to revive a dead thread, but I went to replace the regulator (on my new-used used GMT-800 Suburban) and found a GMT-400 lock actuator clamped to the lock rod and stuck to the door with plumber's tape and a couple sheet metal screws. They cut off the wires and butt connected it to the new actuator. So I went to look up the part to return it to stock and… for $200, yeah, it works fine as it is.

I have a 2003 suburban, passenger door, that will not open. Is there a method to take off the door panel or open the door when the door won’t open?

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars tonyfremont says:

Where were you when I had to change the door latch on my 66 GMC? 50+ year old phillips head screws. They really didn't want to come out, torx or allen heads would have been a lot easier. Inside the door hardware really rusts in place.

I have a 2011 Chevy avalanche remove the tailgate for a day put it back on and plugged it in tails they will lock won’t work anymore driving me insane can’t find the fuse can’t find a relay and now after ours an hours of searching Internet for wiring diagrams I’m thinking that there is an on fuse or a lock for use in an unlocked fuse and Alok relay and unlock relay now one wire that goes to the lock I get a flasher power when I lock the car when I unlock it I get nothing on either wire? Am I correct in understanding that both wires that go to the lock are negative all the time and when the relay or the lock button is pressed one wire turns positive when the unlock button is pressed the other wire turns positive correct Man they could not of made it any more complicated so far I found seven fuse boxes in my truck and I’m sure I’m missing one somewhere😝😝😝😝😝😝😝😝😖

Just watched both vids for this truck hoping to get some insight into a problem I'm having on my '10 1500. Wanna take a stab at it? Driver door lock, will not lock with driver door switch (no response at all from switch with any lock locks), will unlock driver and all doors from driver switch, pass side will lock & unlock all doors, key fob will lock & unlock all doors, all doors lock & unlock when going between park/drive & vice versa. Driver switch replaced with factory GM switch – same result. Have no schematic so not sure where the wires go. To the BCM? Does it control each door individually?

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Paul Monk says:

I'm no mechanic, but I see you struggling to work around that window track, and wonder why you don't swing it out of the way.

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Care taker12 says:

I used to do intercoms and to test speaker I would take a 9volt batt. And put it on the speaker to test it

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars burtonkidd says:

    Very helpful videos for diagnosis.
My problem still remains tho (unless 3 master switches and 2 actuators were both pooched from the wrecking yard)

All doors lock with the fob and switch panel minus the passenger front. Changed the actuator, no fix. Changed the master switch, no fix. Checked all fuses that I know of.

Problem 2, drivers side rear window won't go up or down. Checked for power at the window motor and it has constant (dim light) on both sides of the plug and lights up for up and down.
Put power to the motor and it works just fine 🤔

Nothing works on mine on the driver's door, I'm thinking I've got a broken wire between the door and fuse box!

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Matt Man Productions says:

Really they don't make just the lock actuator like the older cars? It is a all in one unit now? WTF?

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Keith Q says:

That’s always one of the first things I change when I get a new vehicle. I ALWAYS upgrade the factory speakers! Thy are always junk and I’ve GOT to have my tunes loud as hell!

you can tell its swell its made by mattel!

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Richard Bambenek says:

That's my biggest complaint of domestic cars, all the bits and pieces dodads and controls that crap out that are so annoying. And all these parts are so expensive to buy and have installed. My wife has a 2009 Corolla that I have not spent a dime on any of that kind of stuff. The only things I had to do it oil changes batteries and tires. What did this poor guy have to pay for all those parts plus labor to get all that stuff fixed?

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars tony frischer says:

Hey Eric would like to see power lock repair on 1999 f-350 super duty switch works when I press it but it only makes the locks move very little but won't unlock either side. What's with that? Need help in Florida.

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars michael shampine says:

good video! but I was waiting for the right speaker to not work did almost the same thing and wouldn't you know it it was a wire. fortunately it was on my own truck! in the end it only cost me a few extra minutes.

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars slappy915 says:

Did you know you can clean those window switches and go right back to working? I had one the other day that wouldn't roll up the passenger or rear door. Popped it apart and cleaned it up and right back to working in under 15mins or so. The mirror control was partially working as well but one of the contacts was completely missing when I opened it so couldn't save that one. Just a tip for the future.

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars madmat2001 says:

I have to say, if you replaced the speakers in cars with quality replacements and not the factory garbage, you might not have drivers failing in a few months time. For what you fork out for replacement drivers from a dealer you could pick up a good set of aftermarket speakers with adapter brackets and wiring harnesses from a certain online retailer that will remain nameless (lest I be labeled a shill). I understand your gripe with aftermarket gear but if it's done properly it doesn't alter anything and fits just like the stock gear but offers better sound and performance/longevity.

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mike Jones says:

if it had been my truck I would've had you upgrade the speakers to Bose speakers. My wife had Bose in her Silverado. They sound awesome plus they are made in USA not china or mexico. Good job nonethelesss.

@ about 26 minutes, you thought that little plug was a polygon. I believe it's actually a trapezoid. I believe I learned that from maybe one of about four times I was ever awake and/or paying attention in school and now that little information nugget, some 30-35 years later, has finally paid off. I feel enriched for it.

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Eric Mcguire says:

My 97 silverado is having an issue, driver speakers wont work, when I push the driver window up or pass window up it unlocks the doors and if I hold the up button it blows a fuse, the driver window was working fine then it started doing this, the pass one did it ever sence I got the truck

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bobbie Bigg says:

$170.00 USD for a drivers side door actuator, that's nothing, in Canada it's $250.00 and it's a Doorman crap, not AC Delco that's another $100.00 CAD. We don't just get bent over in Canada, they stick it in, with no lube and REAM YA, and then ask ya "want more?"

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Reid says:

Eric, I did my front two speakers after watching this video and I used some heavy duty plastic wrap to water proof the back of my speakers. No problem yet and it has been 2 years.
