Safety Belt Ray….
The hub plate is bent you can see it if you back off.
the bracket bent over due to previous accident
Hey Ray the alignment rack needs to have the lift cables adjusted. You can hear the locks don’t all click at the same time when you are lifting..
Looks to me like the axal has moved outward judging by the clean shiny part by the axle seal. How's the other side look?
need more pins of shame in videos
I think that shimming the caliper bracket out would be more of a hack for a hack job than just exchange it for a new/used part. Oh h*** just go ahead put a weld bead on it🤣
Positive comment for the YouTube algorithm.
You should really wear your seatbelt when driving on main roads.
Tisk tisk.
I know your a mechanic and your in and out of cars all day but man, driving on main roads with no seatbelt is just down right dangerous.
What would have happened if you got mysteriously Tee boned by a high speed stolen car … no more YouTube videos for your fans = Sad panda
"UNobtainium" best word I have heard in the longest time.
Sounds to me like loose and/or worn spindle/ hub bearings causing the rotor to pitch when turning.
Couldn't you have just filed the bracket so it won't be grinding anymore?
In my shop I always look for Millage "numbers" like 112233 or 121212 that sort of thing I will test drive a car to settle the clock to a point of just before on on that magic number on the odometer
I think those are 22s
It’s true, those GM bracketed calipers have become hard to get ahold of. The Core has risen to as much as the part itself is. I work at Autozone and I get tons of upset customers these days. If you find a good deal on something right now, you better get it while you can.
You are awesome. I love the way 🤔
Gm=ass
Thank you Ray. You are super knowledgeable and thorough. I always learn from you great content.
Shim. Really?! Come on bro.
It's got brake discs and brake shoes in a hub on the same wheel??? Am I seeing things???
axle end float ?
excessive axle end-float
?
excessive axle endfloat ?
Any chance the aftermarket rotors were machined wrong? How would that bracket get bent?
ray was there a chance that someone replaced the rotor on the grinding side with one that had the wrong offset. may be rotor for wrong option package or year of car?
That thing is a dinosaur, surprised it still runs…….
The escalard is a properly vulgar vehicle
I want that torque wrench. So shiny! Such a satisfying sound!
Leaning toward axle shaft end play. I don't see how this bracket could get bent. If the car hit a curb, the rim would be trashed, not a caliper bracket.
just a thought Is it possible the chinesium drilled and slotted rotors were made wrong ? I have had this issue with rear rotors form oreilly on 1500hd / 2500 chevys they were machined too thick and were incorrect depth for center of caliper
I have just one question, how the hell did that get bent like that, was this vehicle in an accident?
how tf does a caliper/caliper bracket get bent lol.. someone tried to put on wrong offset wheels maybe?
Use a DTI on the axle or worst on rotor then spin to see runout! Good lord tho is so simple!
GM trash
Dial indicator is much easier. You had it a part.
"Not supposed to be able to use one of these with one hand"
The first lift I learned to use was at a small town GM dealership and their lifts were of the two-post hydraulic type that had floor-mounted levers that you used your feet on. Easy enough but they didn't lift at the same speed due to the front end of most every car is heavier due to the engine and if you had a diesel or big block pickup on there, you really had to watch out.
And…the floor levers put you right in front of the vehicle so if you got distracted, you could conceivably drop it off the front post right into your chest.
Hello. I have requested where your shop is located so I can take my SUV and wife's Truck to you and your shop. Please, let me know where your shop is located. Thank you
As thorough as you usually are, I'm surprised you didn't pop the differential cover and check for side-to-side movement of the axle shafts. A spider gear shim kit might be all that's required to restore proper clearance. Just a guess since I wasn't as close to the problem as you. Your videos are addicting. Keep up the good work and hello from Tennessee.
You know what they say about guys in white vans ,,lol,
Fucking hate those heads. The Hawkeye elite is bad ass.
I am thinking of the occasion of bearing disallinment on the rotor hub. A change on bearings and rotors is a possibillity
common problem with Chevy's. That's what happens when you over tighten the caliper bolts with an air impact. Someone effed up. If it isn't that it's the damn pad retainer clips, always good to clean them with a wire wheel on used parts as well. Some folks are cheap and don't care if you simply grind the bracket for clearance or shim it as long as it works, we make them sign off on that kind garbage though.
We had a Chevrolet station wagon when I was growing up. My parents bought it brand new. About 6 months after a squeaking noise developed somewhere from the back. The dealership or anyone else could find what the problem was.
To fill my childlike need for attention, please insert nonsensical negative comment here:
Having recently built a rear Dana 44 from an old 87 Wagoneer, and then adapting the brake backing plates from a 07 Jeep Liberty to bolt up to the axle tube flanges so I could use a factory type brake setup for easy part availability. The original drum brake backing plate is 7/64 thick stamped steel and the Jeep Liberty's disc brake backing plate is 9/32 thick cast steel, the axle shaft is of the non C clip flavor so it's retained by a bearing plate with 4 bolts passing thru it and the backing plate and the axle tube flange. Increasing the thickness of the backing plate required welding some spacers to the bearing retainer plate to provide enough pressure to the bearing, and suck the axle far enough into the housing. While testing to determine the required thickness of the spacers to be welded to the bearing retainer plate, I discovered that if too thin or thick, the caliper bracket would rub on the rotor. I'm thinking this has something to do with a wheel bearing not properly installed on the axle shaft therefore not locating the hub face correctly. Or there's interference between rotor and wheel studs or rotor is incorrect. Someone mentioned busted C clips… If the axle was a C clip flavor, and the C clip was broken, the axle would be free to slide out of the housing with that bracket removed and would cause a whole hell of a lot more racket!
"Caliper bracket Mount" well in the front that's called the steering knuckle and on a rear solid axle, that would be called a "brake backing plate"
I have this exact same year Cadillac Escalade. I had this exact same problem. I am a retired mechanic. I could not figure out why this was happening. It was intermediate. but the majority of the time you could hear it. I replaced everything. even the bracket that you're talking about troubleshooting. This had me stomped. What made it stop, I filed then polished the sides of the brake pad. I did this just trying to eliminate any issue there could be. that actually fixed it. I did try 3 diff pads while troubleshooting and the noise always returned. All from cheap too expensive to OEM. polishing the sides fixed it right away. The sides of the pads were just ruff enough to get caught on the brake inserts that the brake pad rides on. then it would rub. This might not be your problem but this was mine.
the issue is its a cadillac and it’s unreliable
Oh Ray you missed the hub has moved out
Very hacky work!
Could have easily fixed this by shimming the bracket instead of endless possibilities. I would never bring an Escalade or any other car to a jiiffy lube place like this! Nice way to jack up the bill. Doesn't even know the proper sequence for tightening the lugs, wth???
Imagine how many wheel bearings you messed up tightening with a gun.
