In a previous video https://youtu.be/RIRjwEgIwoo I had a look at a 2012 Ram 2500 with a few EVAP codes (P0456 and P0457) and the constant flashing of the "check fuel cap." We found out that the ESIM switch was bad as well as the pigtail. Napa brought us a new one and it is time to find out if that is all of the issues or not.
-Enjoy!

Echlin parts are purchased from a dealer network and should be original equipment parts.
jb weld on both sides
Great find on the hole
That syl-glide does look like a pretty handy rubber lube to keep around the old bedroom, I mean shop.
JB weld and done!
This guy needs a mudflap in front of the tire
A smokin' gun…or at least a filler neck!!
Flex seal it & call it a day ..
Good to see you saving a Mopar …
I love the video that was quite something else with a dang Russo on top of that filler neck wow
The rain and thunder in the background were so relaxing.
Oh Eric, just weld up the rust hole! LOL
People would be surprised just how many different butt connectors are available. My distributor’s catalog has 6 pages of them to choose from. I personally like the nylon over the pvc jackets. Looks way more professional. I keep all four sizes in standard and epoxy filled heat shrink. I keep step-down butts in both varieties as well. Thanks for the great content Mr. O!
Eric Chrysler don't use the fuel pressure sensor because like most things Chrysler, they're unreliable! 🤭
Edit: A blob of JB Weld for the fix?
You know Mr O is a real mechanic when he says that hes gonna fix the issue but its gonna still broke , and he was dead nutz right … The leak was still there , great job Mr O 👏👌
Blowin smoke up your special heat stink blue butt connectors.
You should change your sign off to "If you can't do it, I probably can" 🤣
Great work
Wow, Thanks for sharing how a master figures all that out.
Really enjoy your videos but we really need your rain in s.e. Iowa
Eric o what it is bro
I am JB-Welding that hole.
🎶 As the thunder rolls and the lighting strikes 🎶
A little JB Weld and the old Dudge will be right as rain!
Thanks alot Eric & Vanessa O
Little bit of jb weld and keep it moving…. at least temporarily.
You should go check on the neighbor. Have not heard the leaf blower running lately. I know it’s raining crazy, but that never stopped him before.
Count yourselves lucky on getting some random pop up thunderstorms.. around me, we’ve gotten barely any measurable rain, and most of our grass is simply dead and brown… I’m in southern Plymouth Massachusetts
Eric, you are working in real time, hindsight comes after the fact. The fact are the switch was faulty, you fixed it it, then moved on to the next thing. You said in part one that there may be an another issue, turns out there was. Nothing wrong with your process. a rust hole is unfortunate, especially when there may not me an OEM direct replacement if the fuel inlet was hobbled from something else.
Oh,I was getting excited that you were going to shove the welder tip into the fuel cap hole and weld the rusty leak shut 😛😛😛😛😛😛 excitement in your day !
Wonder why it's rusting out ,is the cap housing holding water around it ???If he is a farmer, then the build up of animal poo might be adding to the issue
A hole in the filler neck, well there's your problem, well done sir well done.
I always call them marine grade butt connectors
Weld that up in situ, call it a day.
From my understanding of connections and wiring harnesses in general is that they are more expensive because there are additional licenses the manufacturer has to play for because most connectors are designed by a third party.
Blowing smoke up your GAS. 😜
Wow nice find on that small hole behind the Gas cap Eric O good Video as always @SouthMainAutoRepairLLC
I'd probably smudge some JB-weld on the outside of that hole there after hitting it with a little wire wheel and call it good enough. It's just a work truck and not worth taking all that stuff apart. Another thing you could do if you were brave enough if wrap a string around a wet towel and shove it in the filler– and wipe everything down and blow it off real good with the air hose to make sure there were no fumes—- and zap that little hole with a mig welder right there in it's place……….. I'd be using the JB-weld myself.
Huuummm 🤔 Alrighty then… Guess we'll never know what happened. Did ya like that guilt trip Eric 😂.. Closure.. gotta have closure man. Oh well…. Just kidding brother 😁 Don't get your feathers all ruffled 😂. Hey… NAPA called.. they said your sponsorship is ready… Lol.
Connectors are exspensive compared to switches Never understood that and toyota sells the plug seperate of the wires which can get even more exspensive Eric O nice that napa supplies the entire pig tail in one peice @SouthMainAutoRepairLLC
I learned a bunch! Thanks!
Another one for the “Avoca Smoka” playlist!
You won't have that repair on electric ones. 🤣
Is that rain that I hear? We don't get that here in Texas anymore. Love the video.
another patch job that went wrong. Oh well you can fix it. Fix it with J B Weld. or old bubble gum.
Eric it sound like it raining if so I am glad you getting you get rain
Is there a part 3 ?
Connectors are so expensive because there’s a monopoly between the connector manufacturers and the auto manufacturers.
JB Weld, clean hole, fill hole. Done
Awesome as always Eric O. Appreciate it buddy 👍
❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️😎 about as cool as I can get
Like these vids. Thanks fer postin'.
The great state of New York where rust never sleeps.
Come on using hand emery cloth the clean the fuel filler break out the power grinder and go to town an clean it right.
Safety Last😀
Chrysler dodge the hoses to the plastic box thingy majiggy lmao starts cracking and the finger clamps break all cause leak codes. Simple fix so don’t think you can’t dyi it yourself. A squeeze and visible look can solve your leak.
Hey I was trying to figure out who you looked like. Watch the movie Tremors You look like Michael Gross
Send the rain to Texas. We need it !!!
I can imagine someone trying to melt the standard butt connectors, 😂 plastic is not the same material as those heat shrink ones lol
Glad to see you get some rain.
JB weld is the cheapest fix
Hindsight is much better than perfect vision! 20-15!
Pay no attention to the car in my profile picture.
Hot days also, 95 degrees at 70 MPH is still 95 degrees.
That filler neck got hit with an Atlas
I'd smeared some steel epoxy on that filler neck just to see if it had anymore leaks.
Cant polish a turd… nice work!
Smear some Epoxy on the back of that cap and call it a day!
Time to bring out the Avoca Smoka!
Why look for a new filler? Why not remove and weld it from the outside? It just has to hold limited vacuum
If it plugs in either way, then, NO, it doesn't matter.
Could you find a filler neck at the scrappies & cut it it fit or would they be as badly rusted ? Still good detective work to find the rusty neck lucky you got good ole smokey .
A company truck I drove years ago an 1987 c350 that the filler neck wasn't replaced or extended for the stake side bed had to crawl under the truck n lift the filler neck up to fill it couldn't fill fast as it would back up
Do you ever work on volvo s40 2.5 need some help press in wheel hud assembly. Thanks man
No one ever said: Rust is my friend
Road trash Juicey Juice accumulation look at back Cab Electrailises ate a hole 🕳 lot !!! Doing the Filler Neck Dance 💃 🤪
Connector have two bbls. wire bbl.and insulation bbl. most people only crimp wire bbl. but if you crimp insulation bbl. it takes stress off wire and makes connection stronger. JB weld on filler neck it will last forever!!!!!!!!!
Not a mechanic but I've always known I need to have rubber lube around. 😆
Yes, that was a giggity. Oh wait, wrong channel.
Lubin' the 'ol hole. NICE!
The best knowledge only partially comes from books. That's why this channel is fascinating and valuable.
PRNY- Advanced auto depreciation zone. Great diag and repair video as usual Eric O. Thanks for the content. Greetings from Lake City 🇺🇸🌴😎
I used to count Mississippi’s, thanks to SMA I use Pennsylvania’s😂 You make the diagnosis look easy by following the process. I’ve learned a lot. Keep it Mr O!
Yah to the sound of rain and thunder in the background
I'm a troubleshooter by nature and when you find an obvious broken part you have to fix it to continue. If you had found the rust hole in the filler tube you would still be looking for the failed connector and valve. That neck is exposed to the blast from the unshielded wheel and a temporary fix will ultimately fail again, and possibly contaminate the fuel system with road dirt and water.
JB Weld?
That holey filler neck is just begging for some JB Weld if you ask me. Probably not something you could do being the professional you are but that would definitely be my fix for that.
A rust hole! All that work and … ya solved it…again! Bet its galvanic corrosion on the filler neck!
Being such a small hole could you not have put a spot of JB weld in it or something similar safe for use with fuel?
Great , easy to follow normal kinda guy. Thanks
Ok, so clean up the hole in the filler tube and apply some JB weld or your favorite epoxy and ship it?
Also why don't you load those connectors that are exposed to the environment with some dielectric grease to prevent corrosion? It works well.
If it's not today, it would have been tomorrow as that pigtail would have failed then with the green crusties.
Great job master technician!
very nice info with using the scantool in the drivers seat! i cant wait to use that to my advantage! when i smoke test i really like hooking the smoke right to the port on the ESIM that connects to the fresh air filter. then you dont have to mess with any lines and accidently seal/ fix where the leak may be.
I'd patch the hole with a small dab of epoxy putty. Might work, worth a try.
I have been watching your channel for quite awhile..have never left a comment so this is a first.Your honesty and integrity shows that there are mechanics out there that really do care and do quality work.I do most of my own repairs and have picked up so many tips from your videos .love the family too
Brilliant thunderstorm in the background
Rainman RAY, Eric O, Scotty Kilmer, VGG, CLEETUS, PUDDIN and 1320 some of the best Americans! in all of youtube auto issues! NEUTRAL DROP!!!!
My Ram diesel had a leak that stumped me for a while until I finally located it on the top of my fuel sending unit which had rusted thru. I put a draw straw in and a few months later another leak. This time it was in the fuel neck which was rusted almost the entire length. I lived in Michigan at the time and drove to work in the winter at 4 to 5 am, the same time as the salt trucks were dropping salt over the night before snow causing a nasty salty slush that got into everything.
Great video and info. Thanks
I had to rewind and rewatch a few times just to listen to the rain. Living in the desert, I miss the rain but not the rust.
Slow in the shop this time of the year? You are just bring the videos out like hot cakes!! Thanks Eric! ❤
