This Hyundai Tucson was dropped of with a customer complaint of, "it will not run the drive cycle and it is due for inspection!" There are lots of inputs to the ECM that will inhibit the monitors from running and we quickly learn on this one that the fuel trims are off the chart! A little bit of testing leads us right to the MAF sensor as causing all of our problems. -Enjoy!

Eric you always say to check the basics I never even saw you check the air filter on this car the problems of the mass airflow sensor how clogged up the air filter is .

I watched 10 minutes and gave up. Obviously they need a new MAF, all 4 O2 sensors, a PCM TCM and BCM. And don't forget the new spark plugs and wires all around ๐ Jk JK. Great video and diagnosis as always.

Right when u got to the point where the fuel trim was high under load means the MAF is bad! No reason to do any other tests. If fuel pressure was the issue then your VE would be high. It is independent of fuel or spark, VE is just how well an engine breaths. So the only other factor is a tear at the intake boot after the MAF. But I love how in depth you got with this diag.
Kool another fine repair and diagnoses
99 dodge slt pickup always telling that the monitors weren't ready 10 day ran out 3 times still hadent run the monitors bank 1senser 1 not ready bank 1 senser 2 not ready and bank 1 senser 3 not ready same reading for bank 2 sensor 1 ,2,3 and I finally junked it no rust new motor and diff fresh tuneup I called Gary's u pull it and they sent a rollback and I backed out the dodge and drove it on to the truck new springs hangers shocks and shackles.
And sent the 97 jeep grand cherokee lorado the frame was flexing and not repairable . The pickup went because the dealer tore up the wiring and would not repair what they broke

Still didn't catch when or where you showed the o2 sensors operating properly so the car would finish all the readiness monitors
If the re trace is supposed to be the 5V supply to the MAF, why is it around 3.4 V on the scope and the output exceeds supply voltage when you blip the throttle? Different scale???

Hey SMA, I hope all is well for you! I have a 2012 Hyundai sonata 2.4 that I need to take through inspection. But the o2s monitor will not become ready. It's the only 1 and I'm about to jump off a bridge over it. I've tried to many things. Drive cycles, over 4 hundred miles now. It will not set. Please give me any of your thoughts or suggestions!!!!! I think on some of these scope/diag videos you need to remember I'm watching it and dumb things down a bit. Instead of just saying this looks too high, or too low, take and extra few seconds to go over what we should be looking for. But still a good video.

General rule maf sensor g/s should be close to liter size of engine at idle loads off example 4 liter engine about 4 g/s I have found vacuum leaks by noticing the g/s low

I thought the MAF signal graphs were interesting so I looked at some online and supposedly that initial spike should roughly match the full load voltage, as the intake manifold has to be filled after the throttle is opened first before you get something like steady state flow, so air rushes past the throttle initially at partial throttle. Once the manifold pressure equalizes then the voltage drops as the flow slows down. The bad graph has a lower voltage on that initial spike, which is indicative of a bad sensor (I even saw Bosch specify 4.5 volts which coincidentally or not matches what you saw on the good graph. Maybe that's a common number). The bad graph also has a weirdly linear slope up that I don't understand, but I wonder if the loss of detail is due to fouling on the sensor grid slowing down temperature transfer and thus stretching out the time it takes for the actual metal to change resistance. Who knows. I certainly don't. But I'm very curious if you've ever attempted to use a cleaner on a MAF to see what happens.

I have a new Pico Scope, so I'm still lost with getting it to do like your doing on a known good Nissan Frontier. I do see what your saying about the MAF and the fuel trims. Is that a Launch Diagnostic tablet? It looks familiar, like my Matco MaxMe. I used to use the "pull up" parking brake to slow the vehicle so the monitor (s) would continue to run. That worked.
