My friend‘s mother has a Hyundai Sonata 2016 and it doesn’t even have 80,000 miles on it and it makes that same noise which goes to show those engines are junk
What are they expect it’s a Hyundai those engines are junk of course it’s going to rattle those engines have always been junk even a 2.0 turbo is junk and that’s the same engine that’s in the Lancer Evo

Do you just tear into a job or do you read up on it first? When I do a job, I put the hardware into a Ziploc bag and label with a permanent marker. Then I wire it to the part to keep the items together. I also take pictures as I go. You are in Florida so everything that you work on is clean and rust free. I laugh when you do encounter rust because it is minimal compared to up here in the northeast. I'll bet that you have never encountered a cast iron exhaust manifold that has rotted away. Another great and informative video. You are truly a craftsman Ray. You do things the right way.
for that… oil pump is also recommended which is located in the timing cover.. since you don't have oil light on , should be fine . but also OCV valves could cause those rattles. but, as long as it does not rattle all the time, which is normal for Hyundai s they all rattle like a hell at cold start
What are those torque wrenches both ones or all you used, exact models. i need those look better than the unsure versions i have now, i dont trust them… I want 100% precise Torque Wrenches.. but not over 100$ for the 2 u used here? the small one used on the chain tensioner and the bigger on used on cam gears I need both of these
is is bad for an engine (Honda D17A2 VTEC (economy, Mayby a D16Z6 3 Lobe vtec cam swap was done idk) had gunk in coolant system, i took out the brass tiny little hole thingy and drilled it larger (old thermo stat) and (i have all new parts , radiator, thermostat and gasket and all hoses, except i need new Heater core ) but i flushed rad and engine and heater core the best i could in a hill… and was still over heating at first till i had it pointed uphill 9steap hill) and now it runs very cool (mostly on the Low mark on temp guage to maybe just under operating temps but then drops very fast to cold again (guess thermostat opens IDK) FAN IS HARD WIRED by fan switch (with a paperclip/safety pin like a jumper switch, as temp Fix till i can have it all replaced? ) ( i do habe brand new genuin honda Fan switch and Temp Sensors, Idk if there are more or not, im not familar with 2001+ OBDII Hondas ( loe the OBD1 as they canbe ecu chipped an i can program the ECU myslef) but so both. The AC/Rad fan runs 100% at all times with key in On Position, Even if not started!) Can this cause damage to my 2002 Honda Civic EX 1.7 5 speed…. Also why Honda went from 5w30 to 5w20? but tranny recommends 5w30 just like all older honda 5 speeds had, even my old B18 Acura Integras DA9 chassy (iv had like 7 of them so rare now ;(
160k + miles that engine is the cleanest I've ever seen.
Just had my 2011 Elantra GL diagnosed with the same rattling on cold startup (last month, 145,000 km). Had to replace the oil and used a Hyundai OEM oil filter. Noise disappeared. Avoided a $4000 job as you see here. An individual situation may differ.

Cool. I like the way you took out the pulley bolts via spinning the pulley. It reminds me of how we would install pedals at the bike shop. Just start the threads and backpedal (on both sides, as left pedal has left thread- for safety)

I believe that's the infamous piston slap Hyundai recalled. I also swapped the tensioner in mine and didn't notice much difference. Still get the cold start slap but we're nearing 290k miles so no complaints.
