Customer Customer States Mechanic Fails Engine Transmission Gas Diesel off road race 4x4 street car daily driver scam dealership dealer technician how to

Serious man. I almost made it I was running late for work today, had the pedal monster turned way up and I had my tuner turned almost all the way up and they got me. They totally got me up ining y Hood Look who that guy is. Whoop whoop That's the sound of the Police 2017 Ford I Think this is an Explorer Ppv that's police Pursuit vehicle.

We got the K9 unit here. It's got some illuminators illuminated everywhere. Customer: States They're here to have this vehicle caught off on some maintenance and uh, they specifically asked for some fluids. Now there's I think there's several fluids on this vehicle I Don't know if this is the all-wheel drive one yet or if it is just the front-wheel drive one, but we're bringing this unit into the shop here to uh to get her back up on some maintenance.

This thing spends a lot of time on the road at wasn't able to get to it so uh, we're going to get after it real quick like right now. I'm going to go ahead and get her into the shop, we're going to give everything a nice look through on it and I'm going to make some professional level recommendations. Uh, being the mileage that it's at, it probably needs multiple fluids. Uh, he said uh, specifically transmission fluid exchange.

Uh, we're going to check for the rear end on it. Uh, we're going to see if it's got any kind of front diff. uh I Think we're going to do coolant probably brake fluid and when the wheels are off, everything's going to get a fullon inspection down below low at the underneath carriage. and uh, we're going to see what else we can find here.

Uh, we do not need to do an engine oil change because according to the owner, it was just done about 600 M ago so no boring stuff. We've seen plenty of oil changes around here. We're not going to do any of that, but we are going to get into some of the good stuff here, you know I wonder if I can look myself up on their system? Let's turn this thing on I Want to see if if I can look up my uh myself? I wonder if I have a criminal profile here? Let's find out: Dura Book Are these things like a EMP shielded hope? So Okie does enough screwing around. Let's shut down our lights and all that good stuff.

Yeah, I probably shouldn't mess around too much because I'm watching them watching me. This thing's loaded with all kinds of gear on it. It's got the panel overhead. It's got a whole bunch of good goodies down here for some information gathering.

We've got our radios down below another one over there. that's the mic for uh for some talk talky action. Don't know what that thing is up there, but we also have prisoner cam look I can see my truck so that means this thing's got I can see me too I can see me seeing you and I see you seeing me seeing you. This is weird I need to put tape over this stuff I can't I can't handle this.

Not not a Live recorded audience Oh no I'm unplugging every thing. This is not good. I'm I'm willfully submitting evidence that could be used against me in the court of law. so it's set on the side.
This is a canine unit and I believe it's got some specialized equipment for canine purposes. We got the the puppy dog containment area there. nice uh, nice radiator fan right here too. I guess that's to provide some uh, some air flow to our fur missiles.

Ah, look at this right here. I Found another feature unique to Uh Ppv. Vehicles See this right here. this little door check.

This is an addition so you don't break the existing door check on the vehicle. So when you, uh, when you're pulling up to the scene and you slam it into gear and you fly out of it and you fling your door open, this thing will catch before it breaks off the door check. That's a very interesting feature right there. Really cool that's probably born out of multiple broken door check pieces.

Anyway, we were opening up the door cuz I wanted to go around back and uh, check out what's going on here in the passenger compartment. See, we're not a prisoner transport unit. There's no back seat back here. Looks like this is just to uh to contain the Kines Interesting.

Yep. got a got the dog cage that door seems to open. We got a camera back here so we can watch our puppy power back. Storage area remains unchecked.

You keep all your goodies back there. Interesting. No door panel. It's just nice and smooth.

All righty. I'm not allowed in the back area so we're not even going inside of there. So now that we're done playing around getting ourselves in trouble with the law, breaking the law, breaking the law, let's go ahead and get this thing into the shop real quick. Like and uh, see what we have to work with on this particular vehicle.

But first we're going to go on a test drive. Ah, check that out. Look, it has a pedal. Commander This right here looks like it's a throttle gain similar to, uh, the Banks Pedal Monsters.

Now if you guys aren't familiar with the Brinks pedal, Monster Uh, I'll leave a link down below to the install. uh and the purpose of a pedal Monster uh which is available to the civilian. Market But this, uh, pedal monster right here is a throttle gain controller. So I believe what that's going to do is allow you, the user or the driver to have uh, an exponentially increased throttle response based on how much foot pedal the driver is applying to the vehicle.

So let's say you apply 5% throttle at the pedal. The pedal Commander may actually ramp that up to like 10 15, 20% and so you're going to get a much snappier and more responsive and faster throttle than you could just simply by manipulating the actual uh accelerator pedal itself. Uh, the manufacturers when they uh design the programming Logic on these flyby wire pedals, they have them turn down way back. Remember with your carburet car, you'd hit throttle and it was like bam instantaneous power.

Well, we don't do that anymore. We have a mushy type of throttle and it takes a long time for it to respond, but the pedal commanders and the aftermarket or the civilian Market Pedal Monsters can make those uh those responses much faster and they come into play with uh with more. Authority In fact, I've got one set up in my Silverado over there. Let's take a quick intermission.
I'll show you what I'm talking about real fast. Don't go any I Have a visual aid here for a pedal monster. Let me just show you real quick in my uh my Silverado here stocking Z Engine with let these uh my bank's Ey dashes power up. Now the Pedal Monster that's actually A it's a component that you won't see.

It's going to be located and stuffed away. Down on the under the dash, it connects to the connectors at the Uh throttle or accelerator pedal position sensor. the AP What they will do. this is the Uh the bank side Dash that controls my accelerat pedal.

Now you're going to see two graphs right here: When I apply throttle. white graph is user input and the red graph is output. You'll notice it's on stock. Now if I were to turn this up some, let's Crank It Up To sport mode, it goes all the way up into track mode which uh, that's too much.

We don't want to run in track mode. We're going to run like Sport five I Give it some throttle now. I'm applying slight amount of throttle, but you can see the red graph how the red is actually applying more throttle. See that if I give it a blurp you can see how quickly it ramps up the applied throttle to the engine through the ECM Let's try it one more time on full track mode.

see that it went almost full throttle with with 25% throttle input. So it's quite a useful little device to uh, make your throttle a little bit snappier. You get better acceleration, you get better response out of it. It's a fun little unit to to have and that's what.

Uh, what that cop car back there has. We have the uh the pedal Commander from another company but mine is a Banks module. Uh, these are available at Bankspower.com uh I've got a link for uh um Banks's website down inside of this video's description. If you want to shop around to see if they have any components like this for your specific vehicle.

but those come highly recommended from me because uh, I really, really enjoy having a pedal monster in this truck. And when a unit such as that is applied to a police pursuit vehicle, that can be used as a valuable tool to gain that little bit of edge over the people that you are pursuing. Okay, so real quick we're going to go out and take this on the road. Uh, my customer did stay.

As I said earlier, they wanted the transmission fluid uh, changed out on this unit. but I do not do trans fluid exchanges without driving the vehicles first. That way, I can determine that uh, there is no ongoing mechanical issues with the transmission because if the transmission has a a shifting problem, a shutter or vibration, uh, hard shifts, or hesitant shifts. uh, I'm going to be reluctant to do a fluid exchange on it because if I touch it and I make the condition worse or break it, then that kind of makes me liable for those symptoms.
not fully. uh, maybe a little bit, but I'd rather not engage in that argument. So if I find a transmission that has a problem, I'm simply just going to decline servicing the transmission. All right, let's get this unit pulled out and on the road.

And don't worry everybody, we're not going to pull anyone over. That would be unlawful. Uh, plus I'm not dressed for the occasion I Don't think if somebody was pulled over by me, they would. They would take me very seriously.

So, uh, we're not. uh, we're not going to do anything. No. Shenanigans of that nature.

Uh, we're going to do a professional level test drive here and we're going to evaluate this vehicle to the best of my expert ability for whatever that's worth. Oh yeah, she rides like a cop car stiff as a brick and a bunch of stuff rattling around because back of the vehicle is full of a bunch of stuff. wondering? We have rapid flash here on the Uh turn signals. Both of them both sides have rapid flash I Bet this thing has uh LEDs and that's why we're rapid flashing.

All right. Headed up over the bridge here, giving it some steam. shift's good. I Think she feels pretty good.

No flare shifting or shift slip shifting. no banging into gear again with the rapid flash. Yeah. I'm sure that's because it has Led Corner markers.

Uh, the Bcms in these vehicles are designed to see a certain amount of resistance in the turn signal circuits. and LED lights U run almost no resistance because it's not an incandescent filament. Uh, because of that, unless you can put in an inline resistor or program the Bcms to understand that there's LEDs in position, it'll assume that the light bulb is Uh is out or one of the markers is out and it'll give you a rapid flash symptom to indicate to the operator which would be me in this instance or you when you're driving your car to indicate to you or me or anyone else for that matter that one of the uh, the marker bulbs or turn signal bulbs is in Opportunity Fun fact of the day. Hey so we're sitting in traffic and everyone's looking at us like there's people in the next Lane over and they were sitting like a couple car lengths back then that guy right there.

He kept checking his mirror and I'm just like man, oh oh let's go pull that guy over. oh that would have been good. Watch. this going to be awesome I'm going to catch up to him, he's going to go oh no, what have I done But yeah, slow people people think this is actually a cop car and they keep like looking in the mirrors I was watching their eyes Dart around and I'm thinking you guys if I were actually law enforcement I would be suspect of you because you keep looking at me while I'm looking at you and that makes me wonder why you're looking at me you feeling kind of guilty.
hey any any cops out there do do you guys pick up on those cues like if you're in traffic and someone keeps like staring at you Does that uh, does that make you wonder what they're looking at because I I'm noticing that? right now driving in this. uh, in this particular vehicle. very odd situation. Let's go pull Dave over, turn the lights on, You're under arrest.

Dave Go boop boop. All right, no more screwing around. Let's get back to business here. I'm going to go ahead and uh, get this thing in the building right here and we're going to check.

Uh, check that. ATF And I'm probably going to start this service off with the transmission because that was our primary point of focus. Uh, like I said earlier, we'll probably do a little bit of coolant and they also asked to have the uh, the brake fluid exchanged. so those are going to be our primary focal points here.

Anything else that I see in this vehicle? uh, we can address that as well as we proceed, but uh, we're going in for some, uh, some fluid maintenances. now. when I say transmission service I'm not going to be doing like a traditional drain and fill where you take the pan down or pull the plug out and drain it out and then refill the unit. That is not the way to do do it because you're only going to get about maybe maybe 20 to 25% of the total system capacity exchange.

So you're really just diluting dirty fluid with some new fluid. Uh, what I do with my transmission services? The handprint right there what I do with my transmission services is I have a positive displacement fluid exchange machine. Uh, basically. what that is is it's a machine with a it's got a couple hoses and a storage tank on it.

We will inst install approximately 16 quarts of brand new transmission fluid into the machine and then connect that machine to the transmission cooler lines. At that point, we'll start the engine. The transmission pump and fluid flow through those lines will send old fluid into the machine and at the same time new fluid will come out of the machine into the other line and the fluids do not have a chance to communicate and mix together and dilute the new fluid with old fluid. Or dilute the old fluid new fluid.

so it's a positive displacement exchange. They're mad at me. All right. Well, that helicopters out there still kind of flying around.

Maybe they are looking for me. Uh, anyway. Let's uh, take a peek at our engine coolant first. That was on the list of things to to exchange.

Let's get a flashing light here. Illuminations: The coolant looks really gross. It's kind of like a brown watery color. Okay, I do want to exchange the coolant.

Um, how's that belt? Looking down there. it's a Gates belt. It's been replaced. Okay, that seems to be all right.
Let me check this. Engine Air filtration element here real quick. like while we're doing some inspecting. Okay, we've got a K&N That means that's the owner's responsibility.

Okay, that's good Brake fluid. not horrible, but that is a 30,000 Mi Service As per uh, the general consensus, let's put that back tight. That's tight. Battery Charger: Okay, a lot of electronics here, so we have an auxiliary charger that makes sense.

Okay, so that's all of our fluid accesses from up here in the engine compartment. No power steering fluid because power steering is electronic on this unit. The Shield Came off there. Okay.

I've already set the rack when you guys weren't looking. Let's go ahead and run this thing on up that subscribe button moving on up. Well, like no officer, we weren't driving this around. It's been in here for service the whole time.

All right up in the air now. I Believe on the locks. I Do believe in the locks. but I believe that these things had a PTU a power takeoff unit and they wanted the trans fluid or the fluid in those things exchanged like every 30,000 miles.

but I'm not certain how to do that I've I've heard of it being done, but I Understand, you've got to pull the catalytic converters out in order to add fluid to to these Ptus. and this is the PTU right here. So we've got our engine oil pan transmission over here and then that auxiliary Drive Unit for the four-wheel drive feature is the PTU but I don't know where that uh, that fill plug is I think that's the drain plug right there. but as for the fill plug? I don't know I'm wondering if we can drain it, put a hose in the drain plug and then just back fill it through the drain in order to exchange the PTU fluid.

I I wonder Oh well. I'm making a video with you I've got a here if you don't mind. um I have this I'm sorry I didn't sound like it was you I thought this was this other guy I'm like oh bleep I have to bleep you out I'm recording you right now. bleep again now.

Anyway, listen: I got this: Uh I got this all-wheel drive Explorer Cop car. It's a 2017 and it's it's got a it's got a PTU on it and it's here for fluids right? Uming fluid? No, it's here for fluid exchanges I Want to know how do I add fluid to the PTU Have you ever done one of these Uh, there is a I believe a vent at the top that you can, uh, stick a what you call it in. Well, it seems to have a drain. It's got like a plug at the bottom next to the CV shaft by the Uh by the converter next to the exhaust pipe.

Is it is that the drain plug in this thing? I believe so and then on top. if you look like in the master cylinder area, you know, uh you know, like over the transmission I think you'll see the vent tube okay coming up and then I think that's where you're going to fill it all right? well I I understood you were supposed to like take the cat converter off or whatever to get to the fill plug on these. uh I can't recall. uh that? Okay I think I think there was a a sneaky a sneaky way to do one of those I don't think? All right taking the converter out, maybe to replace it? yeah okay, um do you know what kind of fluid goes in those I haven't looked it up yet just asking you if you know off hand.
oh I don't I think it's like rear end? yeah? okay I'll just I'll check out specs. So okay well I think I saw that little vent thing coming down like I think I'm looking at it right here so I can figure it out I just want to know if you knew any like tips and tricks on this cuz I I understood from from others on the interwebs that it was kind of a bear to change the oil in these Ptus. Yeah I've heard the same but the guys at the dealer I think were using their little sucker the little sucker thing and just evacuated it all out. All right, that's fine.

I mean heck man. I figure. Worst case scenario: I could just pump the fluid in through the drain hole that using my BG machine and then we'll just buy pass all of that I think that'll work too lucky BG Dog Yeah yeah buddy. See that that investment paid off for sure.

Soon Soon my friend. Soon! Hey that's cool I Just got a festar review while we were on the phone. Awesome! Hey! I Got my first Google review today. Woo! Congratulations bro! we we five star generals.

We five star nice. All right man. Well let me go look up all the stuff on this I'm going to keep rolling with it. See you later.

Thank you Bye guys, check you later Bye All right y'all heard the man, there's a drain by the master cylinder. We're going to check the master cylinder under drain and see if that's a good way to fill this thing up. my lock did not release there. We go see if we can fill it up through the drain tube and then uh I can also add that PTU oil.

Uh to this service cuz like I said I Do believe you're supposed to do that at 30,000 something like that? You see folks, don't understand that. Yes, we have to do engine oil changes, which a lot of us are really bad at that as it is, but other things that have fluids in them also need to be changed and that stuff wears out just like an engine oil. But we just harp on the engine oil all the time, like that's the only fluid that exists in vehicles. and it's not.

There's there's other stuff to do. So let's fire up the lightsaber Illuminator and try to find uh, find that little drain tube or a vent tube and I believe Ah, that was bright and I think I I can't see it. Master cylinder is right here H I don't see it down there and that's a it's a negative from my eyeballs perspective. Let's check this other side here.

Maybe it's under under all this good stuff? Yeah I'm I'm looking around near the master cylinder area on the other side and I I don't see any kind of vent tube coming up here, so it must only be accessible from down below. I I thought I saw it down there, but I could have just been seeing like a coolant line. Uh, either way, I've got a contingency plan I can drain it out through that drain hole and I can also fill it up through that drain hole as long as I know the exact uh specified amount. So let me go look up spec and make sure that's the fluid that I can acquire today and then, uh, we shall proceed In the meantime.
I'm going to run this up and try to, uh, pull the plug for the radiator and let the cooling system drain while I do my homework work on the computerized. okay, back down below. looking at the bottom of our radiator core Support that right? there is our drain. Uh, that's a problem though.

look at there. the uh, the valve is broken off. so I'm not going to be able to open up that drain. So if if I wish to drain the coolant out of this, I'm going to have to do it at the lower radiator hose.

Okay, that's unfortunate I think but it is what it is. No worries I can pull the hose, drain it out and uh, we'll be okay. Um, I'm wondering if I can drain it here at that cooler. It's a decent spot.

no cuz there'll still be a bunch left over in the radiator and I'd like to drain the whole radiator core. Yeah, I'm going to have to have to pull lower hose. which means I have to wait till later because I've been driving this around and she's a little warm. I think it's not too bad? Uh, tell you what.

I'm going to try it. We'll see what we can do here. We'll pull this, uh, clamp off right there. that one, the big one and uh, we'll start the drain process.

Going to need a hose clamp tool. This one's cable driven. The clamp was on the top side of that hose, so we're going to reach around it with the cable, clamp it on, release the clamp from the hose, pull it back, and then pop the hose off. Okay So we've got the business end of the tool.

I'm going to go up and around to the top of that clamp, see how it hooks on to that little tab there, going to hook that on and then squeeze the handle right here and that's going to collapse this clamp, this clamp and then open that clamp and then we can probably wiggle that hose right off there. We go right there squeezing. I'm trying to see what I'm trying to see here. there it is.

hold it right there. okay, see how it's hooked on right there. I Now squeeze the clamp, squeeze that guy and then not get my fingers in there cuz if it slips I'll smash myself. So what this is doing is shortening the cable up there and it's squeezing that radiator clamp which should start to open it up.

Yep, it's Mo Oh, watch out. Oh, you got coolant on you? Okay, hang on. let me grab the drain here cuz it's ready to rock and roll. All right.

Rolling this thing under here, so let's see. Yeah, what? I'll do. Look at that clamps wiggling back. that's beautiful right there.
I'm going to try to just leave this connected so it makes for an easier reinstallation and I'm going to pull this back slightly I'm going to try real hard to not just let it flow Niagara style and dump coolant all over me. Sometimes you pull it off, sometimes there's no avoiding it. So let's see what kind of time this is going to be there. We go there, we go there.

we go right there up Let it Ride look at that. Okay, so we let this down some. leave that alone, let it drain. pop.

car coming down. Yeah, a little bit closer there we go. We'll pull it back some again. Cool minimal spillages.

Ah, it found it away. Ah, it's getting after me. No. there we go.

look, it's just running its way all the way down the radiar core. Support: look more coolant everywhere. Back up some. Dave Stole my drain I Just came over here and the drain wasn't here and I'm like ah Dave must have stolen it.

it's gone. Are you using the drain over there sir? Yeah. H No matter. I Guess we're good.

The trash can sufficed. Anyway, this thing is done draining engine coolant out of it. So let's get this. uh uh, what you call it.

Get that clamp back in position over the hose and put this thing back. It's been about 20 minutes I Was building the uh repair order, sourcing the appropriate fluids for uh, this transfer case SL PTU and the differential. Some of it calls for 8090 weight oil and I don't have much 8090. it's not a really a super common oil I think Anyway, let's put that clamp back on.

We get it a squeeze, really release the trigger, relieve tension, lower hose is back together. So now all we'll need to do is refill this unit. later on. let's get my flashing light out of there.

That's good. So coolant is drained. we're not doing engine oil. I am going to do this.

PTU and I think what I'll do is just pull this drain plug right here and then I'm going to let the thing drain out once. I know the appropriate amount of fluid that comes out of it, which the spec sheet says it's a I think 6 quartz. What I can do is just pump the 6 quartz back in through the same hole and then throw the plug back in it. It's a little messy that way, but it'll work.

uh. Along the way, we're going to do a transmission fluid service with the transmission fluid service machine. Next up. right now though, I'm going to suck out the uh, the differential and then refill this rear axle oil.

All right. Coming around to the back of this differential, you can see how we've got the cover here and it is buried behind this crossmember by the exhaust and all that good stuff. So normally this would almost be unserviceable. You'd have to disassemble this unit and drop the Uh the differential out of the vehicle to gain access to the the fill plug right here cuz you can't can't fill that up.

but and you certainly can't drain it so you'd actually have to pull the cover off to do a fluid exchange. but I have a machine that allows me to suction out that fluid and thus complete the repair or the maintenance, rather at a at a manageable price rather than spending several hundreds of dollars to get that thing out of there cuz that's what it would cost in labor charge just to just to pull this cover off and even refilling it would be a challenge in this configuration because you'd have to get some kind of a like a hose or a tube connected to your bottle to to fill that up up. which is not okay. It's very unserviceable and again, I Don't see a drain? Yeah, there's no no type of drain plug under this differential.
Let's see how much it's going to spill when we pull this cover plug. Wonder if we're going to drain anything out? Nope, that's a negative. H Looks pretty good. There's a magnet here and there's no chunks of metal, little bit of dirt or whatever.

but that's okay. Yeah, smells pretty nasty. all right. So let me go catch one of my other pieces of Machinery Here you stay right there and we can suction out this differential and then, uh, refill it.

Okay, that's the brake fluid machine we're going to use you later. This one is the drive line machine. We're going to use this one right now. Rolling.

rolling. Okay, so this bottle there is 7590. We're not going to use that because we need 8090 for this differential. So what we need to do.

Like I said earlier, we've got to get this thing set up. This is the fill hose and the drain hose. It's a two-way pump that it has. uh, what? I shall do here is we're going to hang our hose from the vehicle somewhere.

That way it's not close enough. We're going to hang it from over here and we can get our tube up and over, around and through this crossmember and then down into the hole. See that right there. Shove that hose all the way down to the bottom of the diff.

We fire up the pump in Reverse mode and it's going to suction out all the old oil from this differential. So we need an electron extension device here. so I can get electrons from in there over to here cuz this is A! This machine is AC powered 120 volts of electrcity. There we go.

So now we're going to set our machine to drain and drain. fire it up. Yep, we're going suctioning and suctioning and suctioning in the meantime. Judo Smash! Good to go.

Let's go ahead and make sure that that tube is all the way down as far as it's going to go. I Don't want to do a partial evacuation here. Ow, there we go. Suctioning more now.

let's move this around just to make sure we get everything out of it still going. If you go too far, the hose will actually loop-de-loop on itself and that can cause cause it to run dry and and you do not suction out all that should be suctioned out. so we'll give that about a minute or so to let it do its thing. In the meantime, you can switch out our, uh, our supply tank here.
That right? Come here. Stay Stay Stay Stay Get rid of the bottle. the 7590 substitute in the bottle with the 8090. This thing sounds like it's done.

Nope, more. I'll pull it out a little bit at a time until it uh, starts to slurp again. dier pull it out a little bit more. Yeah, that the that hose right here is starting to curve.

y'all can't even see horrible cameram man yeah that hose is starting to curve around inside of the diff there. Now we can really see fullon illumination. That's what we're looking for still flowing diff. Oil is very thick and this is a small ported hose so it does take quite a bit of time to suction out all of that fluid, especially with a cold differential.

Now up here on this. PTU We're going to do the same thing. We pull this little drain plug out right there. I'm going to catch it in a bottle, measure everything that came out and we will apply the exact same amount of fluid to the The Fill bottle.

We'll use an empty fill bottle in the machine there and then pump all that fluid back into this unit right here. That way we don't overfill it and we don't underfill it and again. I think spec is uh 6 quartz think is what? I've just read or reread. Uh, Regardless, we need to figure out how to get that um, that drain plug out and I think we're going for maybe quarter inch drive? It's going to be an Allen socket? perhaps quar inch size? Yeah, that's quarter inch fits perfect.

and I need a a ratchet quarter inch drive? ratchet? Where's my ratcheting mechanisms? Ah, I have one over H There she is. Straighten that up. See, this is efficient right here. We've got the machine doing some work for us and we're over here somewhere else doing some other work.

That's good. Okay, unclick. Oh, it's on there, You hear me? I said unpage there. Oh, machine's making noise I Think it's done.

Let's go check on it real quick. Nope. pulling more out. Yeah, that, uh, that hose is definitely looping around.

No worries. Put our oil drain uh, trash can right over here just to make sure few moments later I Think we're done evacuating everything. Just move this around some more and make sure that we've got it all. I Think we're good here.

I'm going to leave the hose in and go back around to other side of the machine here. Shut it down. We're going to switch to fill and fill There we go. Oh do Not use.

We use that one used to fill read: so fill and fill. Got the new fluid right here. thing's already in I need uh I need my drain can back Dave's using it so we'll use the trash can cuz what's going to happen is when I fill this, it's going to overflow that differential for now that's in place. Fire this machine back up and it's going to suction now from this container.

send the oil into that container. There it goes. We're flowing, flow, baby flow and when it overfills then we're good. We shut the machine down, put the plug back in.
that was more than a half a quart. It said 6 quarts and I just used a an entire court on that. Okay, let's go get another one. Oh right, never mind, never mind, never mind.

Well got got it there. Okay, that was one qut exactly I think my spec table was a little off cuz that's F mark and if it's a little over I'll live with it. Close the valve. Get it.

Oh you know what it was. We had to charge the line so I probably used 4/10 of a quart just to charge the hose since we suction suctioned the hose out empty I had use some of that fluid to charge this hose Right Here and Now now uh then once I I filled that up with its 6/10 of a court. That's when she started to overflow. So that was a mathematical error on my part.

Either way, this thing is full. It flowed out of the top of the drain the top of the fill plug. here. let's get the plug back in position.

get her screwed in. Who knew I got the goo on me. It's going to stink. stink up the washing machine.

I mean it's fine, right? I'll just use bright Clean. we're good stinky fluid I cannot get it to thread I have an idea. Okay so here's the plan I got the super thin ratchet. Now what I can do is I can put my finger on the end of the button here.

so as I'm operating the ratchet I can hold the Fastener still so it doesn't un thread as I'm trying to thread this cuz this is a it's a super tight space in there so reaching around from the top see how we're doing that. but if I didn't hold that it would just back out and go both ways. We don't want to go both ways. we only go one way.

Ah, it's still dripping the nasty on me. It's getting in my armpit. It's like running down my my bicep here. Ah there's more Sho on me There we go.

Run that guy in fill plug. Click Good to go. all right Next we need to wash off all these dripp ages right here cuz that's going to burn off on the exhaust and and leak on the driveway. We don't want to do any of that so let's get some cleaner in there, make it nice, shiny, clean, Beautiful.

Nah. All right. back inside of the Vault we need to get uh another jug. we're using the 75140 up front at the the PTU So seeing as how we just uh established that there is a certain amount of fluid that will end up being contained with inside of this uh, the hoses here I Want to go ahead and Purge this 8090 out of this hose and what we'll do is we will pump out.

Uh we're doing fill and fill so we'll pump this fluid out of the hose, open the valve, let it ride. Here we go. That's all the need oh firing. So we're going to pump this till it turns green cuz the BG is green and the other stuff is not there we go.

that looks good. Let's close it up here we go power it down now. I Don't need to drain any fluid with this machine out of that because we can just pull the plug out of it and then let it drain for itself. But what I do need to do is collect what I drain out of it that way I can measure exactly how much comes out because we have to put in exactly what we drain out.
so we'll dump that Out of there nasty. We'll fill that oil filter up with it, you know? I'm going to change my mind on the Fly real quick. I don't want to do it with that that tub over there I'm going to use my engine oil funnel not that funnel, the uh, the fill funnel this one. We're going to use this to gauge the appropriate amount because this one, like a graduated cylinder, has Uh, has measurement marks on it and that'll allow me to confirm with some degree of accuracy exactly what type of fluid's going to have to or how much fluid is going to have to go in here.

So what we'll do, we'll pull that guy out. little drain plug there I've never done a PTU service on these Fords Okay, that does appear to be gear oil. Pull that guy out. We're just going to let it drain for a while.

It's going to take minute I think but that is no matter what do we have here on our plug. Little bit of a little bit of wear stuff going on on the magnet. It's not horrible. There's definitely some some Metal Sludge business here.

Yeah, that's to be expected. A little bit more than what I'd like to see, but not the end of the world. Okay, okay, we're gug chugging away here like I said spec was half a quart according to or 6 quarts and we're approaching that 6 qut Mark right now and we're still chugging along. Gug Glug.

All righty. So here's how we're going to do this. We're nearly 1,000% finished draining right like it's we're We're at a pretty slow crawl here, so the vast majority of this fluid has been drained out and we have zero spillage except for that right there. And if we look yeah, we're 6 quarts, That's right on the money.

we're level. that's the one qut Mark And that puts us right there at 6. So I was, uh, incorrect in my assumption that we were going to use a full court on that unit. I Guess the thing was just kind of sitting a little sideways and it looked overfilled but on a level surface where we're right at a half a court.

So I will be doing the 6 qut spec of the 75 5 140. which is this oil right here? Yeah, that's what I put in there 75140. So I need 6 quarts of that? So what? I'll do. We're going to grab this 8090 bottle which is make sure she's all the way empty.

Yep, I'm going to grab the 890 bottle and we're going to fill that to it's 60% Mark So we'll use milliliters I Guess maybe can we do that? Uh, 16. No, we're 28 oz. so we need 14 oz. At 50% of the 28, we'll do it up to 16 oz.

That's pretty much right on the money. So what I will do is fill this bottle out of this bottle knowing that this hose is completely charged. Then I will switch this bottle with this bottle and fill that differential until this bottle is empty. And uh, that will give us the appropriate amount of fluid per the specifications.
And this is how we cheat that little system and avoid the extremely difficult task of taking the catalytic converter out to. uh, get to that fill plug. That's how I'm going to do this. So we insert our unit, click our machine to the on position, and fill on up.

So we'll spin that around okay valve opening and put in right at a Uh at a pint and I might just go a tad over cuz I'm sure I'm going to spill some when I transfer the Uh the hose we're going to do right there Hing down. Okay, so the hose is still charged. We all agree the the hose is full. Now we're going to take this 3/4 bottle away, move that over here, switch it out with our one Qu bottle, put that back like so, and we'll roll the machine over to the transfer case and then refill it.

Now the only catch is is I've got to make sure that I don't pull that card out of the wall. Now the only catch here to avoid spilling any of this. Look how it's being hung on by little dingleberry the other end. You can pull it out if you want.

Look at the other end. Let me see. Oh yeah, it's definitely Dingle barried. Yeah, Get that out of here.

Okay, so so what? I'm going to do like I was saying we're going to take the hose. stick it in that hole right there if it's going to fit. Yes, it does. It fits perfectly.

Oh, that's great because there's actually like a small a smaller diameter area inside of that I guess to accommodate this magnet. Anyway, what we're going to do. and I need you to help me. Okay, yes, we're going to take this hose sticking in that hole right there.

We're going to fill this system up with everything that's inside of this bottle. That's our pre-measured amount of oil now. I'm going to need to kind of plug the remainder of that hose with my flang here so it doesn't spill out. That's going to be the kind of the the Achilles heel of this idea is.

if can I contain all that fluid until this is done as soon as it's done. I've got to pull this hose out and swap in the drain plug. Super super fast. So I need you to help me? Please If you would, Yes, please turn on the switch Now! Yep, you can turn on Okay now.

I'm going to plug this up, darling. I need you to open up that valve right there. See that, Turn it up or down? Uh, whichever way it turns, just open it and are we glowing? Yes. Put that hose farther down inside of the bottle.

See that. Got it? We're going. We're going. tell me when it's empty.

Is it empty? Not yet? All right. it's empty. Shut it off. Shut it off.

Shut off. Okay, here you hold this next. I need to switch flanges here and take the finger off this fill hole and then put the little plug back in. Totally a risky operation.

I think I pulled it off. There we go. That's the drain plug. a cheated I fought the law, the law lost da nasty.
It was worth it though. She called me an idiot and then turn the camera on like I wasn't going to call her out on it. You're you're who's the bigger idiot, the idiot, or the idiot that married the idiot. Ooh me there.

    — I stole one of those once. Not what you think. I support Police. Was a private contractor for 21 years. A lot of that business, believe it or not is when the state or city, or the government required heavy QRF. Some times it's something like down the fireman poll reaction. I've never been a fireman but it is that fast. Respect to you guys – all emergency services, heh, even though you didn't care for it when we showed up. Alphas everywhere stepping on each others balls. We did try to rescue a couple of kids from a burning duplex in my town. The kid's weren't home EDIT: No one was injured or worse, and we learned extremely fast we were no firefighters, so thank you.
Once in a blue moon they got it right and had us briefed, oscar mic before the action.
Anyways back to stealing police vehicles. One of those and a couple others. See we don't roll up the same way say Police and Special Weapons usually do (sometimes required to). So sleepers let us off, and move back to hold incognito. So there's been a few squirter incidents where we've had to borrow/they say steal, police vehicles to pursue. They're running, nearby, locked, but you shoot the driver's side window… 🙂
It might sound bad, but off the field a lot of us were and still are friends. Joke around about it. Off topic, Ray, but thought you might enjoy a day in the life. Thumbs up.

Told me that I don't need to replace it right away since it just happened a few days before he saw it but to definitely get it done, he will do it. He told me that once it starts clicking, it's time. But being that I am always up to date on maintenance and services, I plan on getting it done before then.

It shows what weak pieces of shit a lot of cops are. Black Guns Matter? You get to walk around carrying a gun all day and can treat people like shit and get away with it because you have a badge. Whoever drives this car gives actual good cops that are decent human beings a bad name. They were probably bullied as a kid so they got a job where they can carry around a gun so they feel important, or they were the bully and they decided to get a job where they can carry a gun around because once they got out of high school they realized that they peaked in high school and their ego couldn't handle that they suck at life. I feel so sorry for the rough life you live, getting to drive around and eat donuts and pretend like your a tough person. I'm glad my law enforcement Uncle warned me when I was young to be wary of cops because a large portion of them are in it for the power, not to actually help people.

Years ago, we serviced police vehicles in the small shop that I worked at. The shop was located on a small country road. On this road lived a meth head that was always in trouble with the law. You could smell what he was cooking. Ever so often, I would test drive the vehicles past meth heads house and hit the siren. That dude would fly out of the back door of his house and run off into the woods. Eventually, his wife called and filed a complaint that her husband was being harassed by us in the police vehicles. It wasn't us, it was me. We stated that it wasn't our fault that he took off out of his back door every time a police vehicle drove by. The chief laughed. We laughed. But we're asked to not hit the siren when passing by the house any longer. Lol

Love your videos Ray, I watch all of them. I rarely comment, because everyone does things a little different. But- The PTU's on these are very touchy. One of the vehicles I service is a '16 Explorer Sport with the same PTU. You're definitely short on fluid with the method you used to fill it. With how much that leaked back out, plus the amount still in the hose / pump, I'd guess you're close to 4oz short… If it's not remedied, it's doomed for an early death. You just need to pull the intake tubing to get to the vent tube so you could put the correct amount in. It's about a foot long coming up from the PTU with a breather on it. That being said, it's not easy to get it filled back up because it airlocks, and if you force the fluid in, the seals can blow out internally. I extend the vent tube up using a barb and more hose, then use a large suction syringe as a funnel. Heat up the fluid so it's thin, then fill up the "funnel" and use a thin wire down through it to help relieve air so it will flow. Good luck next time.

Actually, the two nights were life changing, seeing the worst end of society.

So many metal chunks in bottom of differential. Poor fluid swap!

That exact pedal commander is available to anyone. I see ads for it in my Facebook feed all the time.

I wonder how many dishonest shops use the pump for the rear differential but charge you the labor rate for a disassemble fluid replacement? Coming from someone who has had multiple shops try various over charges for work to be performed.

I'm not American so I don't know your laws but I have 2 questions.
1). I don't think that is a really police car as it doesn't say police on it but if it was, do they not do their own maintenance, for obvious security reasons.
2). If it's not a real police car, with those lights and sirens could the owner be charged with "impersonating a police officer"?

The hyperflash is a violation in many states, but very typical for police not to follow the law. They love using minor violations like that for pretextual stops though.

Add the ptu service for Edge, Flex, Escape, Taurus, and Explorer AWD cars to your list of services. Dealers won't do it on the earlier version with no drain plug. I had to find an independent to do a suck and fill on my 09 Flex. That thing costs about $2000 and renders the car inop when it dies. Later versions are like the cop car have a drain.

be careful of that flashing blue light. some states will throw you in jail for just having it on the car. some states will arrest you for using in view of the public even if on private property. I do not know the laws for Florida. nice rig though.

Retired 30 years on the job here. The old thing was called "The No Look Rule". We were taught that for drug/criminal interdiction work. Pull up right next to your suspect/vehicle … make it obvious. If the driver doesn't look at you, wave hi, hit your siren or blow your air horn. If they STILL don't look over at you, they're ridin' dirty. The psychological explanation if that if they ignore you're presence — even when they know you're there — they trick themselves into thinking they're safe (not gonna get stopped/arrested). Meanwhile, they cop(s) already have enough PC/RAS to stop you anyway.

Do police cars have any extra steel inside the doors so they can be used as cover? I think the old Crown Vics were like that. Could be something i just heard of that isnt actually true, but sounds like it makes sense to me. Could be more reason for the extra supported door check, no?

  90. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars @dportname3462 says:

Too many variables associated with the procedure you used to fill the PTU along with incorrect calculations when converting quart to ounces to know how much you really added. How much spilled during plug install and how much was purged from the line after suction from container stopped? If it were a gallon or so, a few ounces one way or another would be insignificant. In this case, you could be off more than 15% with consequences causing PTU failure. I've been watching your videos for a long time and enjoy them. In this procedure you didn't live up to your stellar standards.

Go to Lowes and pick up a rubber stopper drill a hole in it and push the hose threw it, it will help with leakage around the hose. Here you would have to cover the light bar with a cover that says out of service in order to test drive the police vehicle. You are pretty lucky to be able to work on a police vehicle. The police have there own shop here, they only go back to the dealership for warranty work.

  93. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars @michaelmartin2276 says:

It's nice the local law enforcement came to your shop. Good business to obtain. But I always thought they had their own garage and maintenance shops. I don't do or recommend transportation flush. Know too many incidents where the transmission failed very soon afterwards. But just a removal and fill I find no issues with. These Explorers also has issues with exhaust fumes entering the vehicle during long idle periods.
