Customer Customer States Mechanic Fails Engine Transmission Gas Diesel off road race 4x4 street car daily driver scam dealership dealer technician how to

Next up: I'm going to go ahead and get this thing. uh, pulled forward onto the lift here. we're going to raise it up I need to do an oil change on it. it's at 97,98 Mi on the odometer and our sticker up here says 87,000 Mi I I Really hope we're not doing a 10,000 M Oil Change Uh, on a hyand day we're going to pop an iny hood and I just want to check the oil level status and condition and uh, just make sure that that's actually valid.

Uh, my owner of the vehicle had stated that they did not know when the last time the oil change was done w we need some hood struts that's not okay engine oil status H oh maybe we do have a 10,000 M Oil Change Oh, that's not. it's not okay. Ooh ooh okay oh that is, that's not okay. This was not what I expected customer States 10,000 M Oil Change Oh now I don't normally shame people but um I'm thinking about it I'm thinking about it on this one.

Okay, see what we get? Okay, that's not as horrible as what we just saw. but I do believe. Yeah, that's not. That's not the greatest.

that oil is pretty gnarly. Yep, um I'm doing an engine flush on this car. That's what's going to happen. All right.

So listen I I said in the last video on this car I wasn't uh I was finishing off at an oil change thing and I said I wasn't going to do a video about that that but this is a kind of a special case because according to the sticker on this vehicle, this engine oil changes at 10,000 mies and that's just the sludge that I found under the oil cap. Uh, we pulled the dip stick out earlier and that was also loaded with a bunch of the sludge. So I'm going to make an attempt here to to kind of clean this out some. So what? I'll do.

We're going to leave the remainder of that sludge right there on the cat. I have dumped a can of a it's called E Engine Performance Restoration. It's a cleaner solution I dumped that can. where'd she go there it is I found it I dumped this can of cleaner down in the engine right here and I'm going to start this thing and run it for about 15 20 minutes and this stuff is supposed to come through and break down all that sludge.

Then we're going to pull the drain plug on the oil pan and watch the nasty flow right out of this unit. So what I want to do is uh, make an effort to, uh, deify this thing and hopefully save this this engine's life because I believe this one has already been replaced for blowing up. uh under warranty Once Upon a Time So Heaven said that I'm going to try to save this one cuz I don't think this car has any more warranty left over. So now that we've got that cleaner solution in there, let's start this thing up and let it run for a while.

I Guess on the bright side, the oil level wasn't low on this car, but it was super nasty at 97,98 Mi on the odometer. and if we take a look up here at the Uh at the sticker, it called for the oil change at 87,000 miles. So which means this thing is 10,000 overdue. There's potentially 13,000 M on this engine oil change right now.
So we're going to hopefully save this motor and not kill it is my evidence. We're all rephrase. We're going to let it not kill itself. That's what we're going to do.

Disconnect this. this is all last video stuff. I Had uh had the steering column apart on this and we replaced the uh uh, little rubber bushing thing that's in there. Between the Uh, the electric power assist motor and the steering gear.

The Driven gear on the steering column. it has electric steering assist. So anyways, we have the put that on properly. We've got the cleaner in there.

We're going to let this thing run for a while, let it clean itself out some. I'm going to top off some fluids while we're doing that by the time I'm done. uh, my 20 minutes may have gone by and then we'll go ahead and put this on the rack and see what kind of horrendous nasty stuff comes out of the oil pan. Uh, then uh, I'm going to take a look at the filter too.

I think I'm going to cut that open and see what's inside of the filter. Couldn't hurt? Is that? Yeah, yeah, that's cool it. I thought it was green and I thought maybe it was the uh, the washer fluid reservoir didn't want to, didn't want to contaminate that with the cool it. and yes, yes, I can mix colors of coolant because this is my BG coolant and it's a universal coolant.

It meets the specs of uh, the European stuff. So and the Asian stuff and the Japanese stuff I know Japanese stuff and Asian stuff is the same thing. but my coolant meets these specs. so I'm allowed to use it in this vehicle.

Even though it's green, it'll still work. Not to be confused with blue water for the wipies. the windshield wipes fill our Blue Water up. that's part of the St top off all fluids, air up the tires.

What you get? Close this guy up, right? huh? Okay, you hang out here and idle for a while. I'm going to clean my tools up from the last video and the last repair and then we'll uh, we'll get into that oil in a minute. Lauren you think I'm going to beat the clock on this uh, broken driver door switch I Hope so you got about 18 minutes right? I'm down to 16 16. How do I get it out timey? Where's the new one at the new one? Oh good question I over here.

let is it I think this one's also been replaced. Let me see that new one real quick. See what we get here. new used one.

So this I think it snaps in right like this so it should. You hold that for me. Please man, there's tabs on the back of it that need to be released. Yeah, that switch is broken right there.

Watch this. I meant to break that, it's not broken I'm kidding I think we're down to 14 minutes mhm. There's tabs on the back that I can't reach CU there's one of these and it's recess in the switch on the back side over here. Uh, let's flip this over.

Maybe I can see it better. Let just unplug that. What is that there? I Got a little bit more working room here to to toy with I don't know. Oh, come on, it snapped back in.
You hear it? Yeah, stupid bad. Ray Let go. let go of that thank you. see I get one Tab untabbed and then the next one I try to do the next one.

then it rabs trying to. oh, double dip here I know there it's I got it except for this piece on the back side here. I Have an idea I know what to do? We're going to do a I'm going to sacrifice the screwdriver here. Watch this show you follow me.

Let's find something fry off of now. I can do it Nice. What I'll do is get back behind it. No, it went back in thinkk you feel pressure because you're on the to clock.

Oh yeah, totally totally. I'm trying to beat the clock here I Can't see what it looks like in there either. Um no no. I don't know what to do.

Just keep poking it with a screwdriver until it does something. Oh, that's got to be frustrating. It is. You do the same thing over and over and over again, then it goes back into place.

I'm just going to pull it expecting different results. Yeah, see I can't feel this there. it is. how many minutes are left I think we are on 12 minutes left.

Come on. I think once that's out and then you snap this one, it'll be a lot quicker. Super easy. Yeah, just that's taken up all the time.

Is it going back in? Yeah, Oh man, come on dude. what is this why? Okay, cheating is not going to work. just take some more stuff off I don't even know if this is going to work. it might quite possible.

Let's get that one if I can just maybe Flex this enough to reach behind it. No that was a waste of getting so mad. oh oh no. getting so mad.

not working mirror I Want a mirror mirror mirror on the wall n now I can sort of see that I can't still can't get it? Hear that? Okay you? you see what? I'm saying that those little tabs right there. That's that's what I need to get out those little tabs right back there. Some leverage I need to bend the screwdriver more. we're getting closer.

Is it moving? No. but at least I'm kind of in the right spot here. kind of wo it moved ow oo look I got behind it, got behind it right there. so now I lost it again.

this is some BS it doesn't have to be this hard. Hold that mirror for me right there right there. Mirror that mirror right there. Yes, Right here.

Yep, that good spot. Yep I need to keep pressure against this with my right hand or that tab will re-engage and I'll have to do this all over again. We've used up our 310 already. Yeah I think so.

see if this is a warranty job at a dealership I'd already not be happy with my day because now it's costing money. oo stab myself. See that Mhm I'm I'm fixing to give up start breaking stuff. so look at this.

even the one in front of me I can barely even close to it. Uhoh Mhm I Get it? Yeah, please do go, Thank you. You're welcome. Do you want the mirror back? Yeah I can't see back there again.
Oh oh yeah, nonsense. Where's the where's the new one? Let's see how long this takes you. Shapes and colors? Yeah. there we go.

Problem Solv: Look at that. Real easy. Two seconds. Super easy.

Yep. oh that hurt. stabbing myself and breaking stuff, scratching plastic. You did it though.

Yeah, failure is not an option I Think it. I think you just did it in 18 minutes too cuz that snap back in was just a well. I'm not done. Oh, you got to for.

Got to remember though. Oh wait. remember those screws you took? Oh yeah, thank you. You're welcome.

They're in my pocket. Well think about it like this. Let's say that was the only line item on this ticket, right? Mhm. There's no labor off for, uh, diagnosing a physically broken switch.

so I would only be able to charge or collect 3 hours from warranty. But what that did not account for was walking out to the parking lot after getting the ticket, pulling in the car, walking to my computer, clocking in on the job, and then finding out what's wrong with it, taking it. uh, going over to Parts pulling the switch, coming back, putting the switch in, finishing all of that stuff, and then writing the story for warranty, seeking the labor code, putting the labor code in, finishing up, wiping it all down, retesting it to make sure it works again, parking it, handing in the keys. they don't pay you for all that stuff they just pay you for.

Oh, it takes x amount of tenth of an hour, Fill by the hour and pay by the minute. or no, it's fill by the minute. Pay by the hour. Either way, it's not right.

That's why we have a recruiting problem. It's a one-sided Financial uh transaction. Very one-sided. Then you got the drama.

Plug that one back in there. we go next. Okay thank you for reminding me about that thing that I forgot. Oh you're welcome cuz if that was put back on all the blood ran out of my brain.

good this one piece of trim and then oh then if you break something that's fun cuz then you've got to go and go to parts. and then Source what you broke then you got to go The manager off office explain why you broke it. Okay one more down here. Pardon me, thank you.

You're welcome. That one goes down here. If you don't have the screw in when you go to pull the door handles or the door. yeah the handle.

it'll uh just pull the panel off. Yep, make sure it works. Yep, nice. The auto function also works.

Door locks work Shades and colors beautiful. Where's my um uh, what you call it I Need cleaner? Great wind It shiny. What? Service: 2024 I'm the last guy doing this? No, there's like six others. that's about it.

Let's get on to the good stuff and change the oil. What you say? Hey, we watch that cord on the light. so I don't tear the light off the hood, just make sure it's got plenty of slack. See that the cord hanging? Yes, Yeah, uh yeah, you're good right about in there.
Okay, let's set our rack real quick. Like get this drain plug pulled out of here and see what the Carnage is looking like down below Two. Right there there we go. Yep, GDI GDI tends to sludge up.

Let's pull this cap off. There was a bolt load of sludge in the bottom of this cap. Yeah, there's still a little bit on there I Think we should run this for a little bit longer. I'll tell you what.

you know what we're going to do. I'm going to. we're going to let this sit and I'll come back tomorrow, run it again, and then try to desludge it Okie does Dave set up the other side of the rack for us. Let's go ahead and hit the uh black subscribe button, send this thing on up in the air.

We'll pull that uh drain plug out and see what kind of nasty comes flowing out of this thing and uh, see if we can improve the overall internal com internal condition. There we go. I Almost said combustion and condition at the same time. Combis.

We'll check the condition on the inside. Woo! Pretty decent done down below though. Rust free atmosphere. nice and clean.

My cables running out of slack here. got to watch out for that if I break the cable I Can't use the light anymore because Snap-on made that light with a proprietary cable SL charger it's USBC but that light will not run off of anything other than the Snap-on charger which is it's that's worse than iPhone that's a $400 light. It makes a lot of light and it's good clean white light. But the problem is is they, uh, they kind of cheated us I think a little bit on uh on that stupid plug because if you lose the plug, it's really hard to get a replacement plug.

same thing with the cable and if you lose or break it, then um, well, your so which I don't really prefer? not okay, yeah, it's got the purple one in there and I've even tried to swap this out with uh, another charging block that had the purple purple cable and that one still didn't work. so somehow some way they're running different circuits through this USBC to uh to run the charge on that light up there and the lights battery capacity is, um, also horrendous. 17 mm Yeah, the the light only runs for maybe like an hour all by itself and then it dies well. I Need the light for more than an hour cuz we do things that take longer than an hour.

17 coming in. Let's crack this loose, let the nasty flow see what we get out of this thing on? Clicks Yeah! I'm also going to cut the filter open on this. so I think get out of here going, try to spin this off and get my hand out of the way. so I don't get covered in the in the sludge oil.

hopefully I Don't spill it on myself, you we're running out of threads. He got me. it got me. Dave Oh, that's not.

That's exactly what I didn't want to do. Oh well, that's just what happens. I Guess it's opposite day. feel contaminated? You're all nasty.
Maybe we should install the ANS oil oil bypass system on the Hyundai help clean up the engine I Bought it for my truck, but um, it might be beneficial to run on this Hyundai over here. Okay, the oil is draining. Let's grab the filter pliers. Old school.

Blue Points Here we'll dig that filter out. Get it through this access hole right here. Get a hold of that guy and give her a Twist Not going to work, not from that angle. Let's see.

open it up some rotate that around there we go. h I'm going to get uh I'm going to get oiled again here I Will use the glove to keep myself clean cuz I just washed my hands after that oil bath there. This stuff looks like diesel too. It's nasty.

super nasty oil. Oh buddy. Now this. I'm going to cut this open.

It's nasty. Yeah. I'm going to cut this open. later on and we're going to take look inside of it just to see what's in there.

Leave you right there for now. Where's that new filter at glove off? new filter? H Let's get this guy in position here and tighten you up. Get that nice and tight like filter. click and let's get our drain plug back in here.

Yeah, it's still draining out. pretty nasty. you get in there. Speed Ratchet 17 that one.

It was getting a little hung up on the way in. Came out okay by hand but on the way in it's less than ideal Here we go. 17 down here. plus torque on this unit clicks right there.

33 inch PBS Good to go. Okay, let's roll pull this thing out of here. We'll let her down and refill it. should be good to go.

Flashlight Rec Cover here. Put that. uh, you can go right here there. Shut it down.

Save my battery lock release Hy Coming down all the way down funnel time and the 520 going over here to the cabinet. we're going to use some MS oil that's a 3 qu bottle. this is a four qu and I think this is a five qu engine. so we're going to use one bottle of this one and then a quart out of the partial.

That should get us refilled here. Yeah, What? I'm going to do I'm not going to do two oil changes on this. We're going to refill this unit with the quality oil here. and then we're going to give it back to them.

Let him ride, and then I'll see him in 5,000 for another oil change. That's some thick foil right there. Even the foil on the AMS oil is better. I was doing a price point comparison and I can actually retail AMS oil for less than the retail price of Mobile One.

And and I do believe that in my opinion, the MS oil is a higher quality lubricant. Gug gug. Just keep pouring. Keep it going.

Keep it going. Keep it going. Okay. got four quarts here.

Let's check our level before we add that fifth qut to it. Make sure this is not a four cord engine. I I could go look it up, but I could also not waste that time and just take a look at the dipstick. and yeah, we're a little light.
Yeah, have one more cart. Yeah, it's right here at the fill. Mark We've got to account for uh, what the filter is going to require so maybe half a court. I Know what I'll do.

Um, where's my bottle? bottle? bottle? bottle? Not that one here. We got a couple couple ounces of additiv it'll four to five already. Excellent engine oil. We'll dump that in then.

Ah there it is. That's the partial. Ah got oil on you funnels. drained.

Good to go. Oh you dig it. I Did yeah, look at that. That's it's.

a lot of that nasty yeah. we need to let this one send this one back out in the wild and then repeat the exact same procedure for the next, uh, two or three oil changes with that cleaner stuff my darling. Would you mind running around inside and restating Z Engine Please sure can thank you. Run, don't don't run.

It's against. uh, it's against policy to run inside. you can trip and become injured. Screen: Yeah the workers comp people might be mad if the lady that owns The Joint FS a workers comp claim.

Go ahead and start it up. She caught me. that trick doesn't work on anyone anymore. All right.

hey, go ahead. shut her down you. You didn't even know what I was doing did you? yeah? I was just sitting. You're like, okay, that's awesome.

Didn't even know what I was doing doing that Dave that trick didn't work on her. did you ever do that to somebody? They start it up after an oil change. take your wrench, start tapping it on the valve cover or something. No.

I was Day Dreaming I wasn't paying attention. Ah, all right, let's check our our level here real quick. Like give it a wipe it all wipe you down. Yep, right on the money.

Yeah look how dirty this engine is. Brand new, clean oil and it's already pretty dark. We're definitely going to need to. Uh I'm going to set them up for a 3,000 Mi oil change on this one with the sticker.

So I want to see them in a couple months to do this again? It's a big deal. It's going to save the engine I Will save it my dear. Will you clear that rack? I'm going to let this down the rest of the way. We need to park this one outside cuz we've got that appointment coming in first thing and I don't want to have to take this thing off the rack while we're doing that.

So let's clear this thing out. Do you want to back it out for us? Sure that would be fantastic. Take the slide off first y I got got her power it down there we go give that the flip, hang it in its home I Don't know. Put it in the parking lot somewhere.

Yeah, somewhere very good. All right you're good to go. ready. Rock and Roll All right folks.

I Think we are done for the day Dave has closed the doors which signals to me that we are done for the day. He's the he's the timekeeper on here. We're backing it out. This one's good to go for now.

We fixed. Uh, we fixed an engine sludge issue. kind of. We're working on that one.
Fix the door handle, fixed that banging on the steering wheel in the last video, and we're going to recheck up on this one. At a 3,000 Mi oil change not a 5,000 we're do the same thing. So having said all that as always, thank you guys for watching this video. We always we hope you enjoyed this video.

If you did enjoy this video, please feel free to let us know about that in the comment section down below. Do not forget to tap that like button while you're down there! And most importantly every yourselves is a fantastic day! See you guys later in a video in the P day in a transmission.

I use the 6 quart havoline box and marvel mystery oil once in a while on 09 sonata 2.4, the first of their direct injections engines and it has 255,000 miles and going strong. No sludge at all but I change the oil at 7500. I have heard many people talk about how some of the newer than mine sonatas engines going out

12 years no oil change and I'm still going my mom made it to 350 thousand Miles without a oil changes on a regular basis you just need to check it and keep it full on a 100% basis man and don't hot rod it it's not

Wow that really why theses hyundai engines die quick. I had my 2013 engine replaced at 147K and they said it lasted do long with the factory defects because I changed my own oil with Synthetic and or the blend when I frist bought her new back in 2015. Usually I do them between 3500 and 4000 miles. Sometimes just over 4k. Just basic Maintenance and any car for less a long time. Well maybe not a Ford car engine 😂 must must others will run a very long time.

Well can also blame some car dealers on this problem, here is my logic. Some dealers recommended their bs “fuel system” treatment, battery “condition” (eg throw it on a charger for $100), etc etc.

So with this distraction/noise people get hesitant to spend more and are also rather burned or not trusting of dealers and then stick with the “I will follow factory interval” – or worse. I am in the auto industry and one of the reasons OEMs do long intervals is it makes the cost of ownership seem lower with longer oil change intervals. This is true initially, particularly during a short lease, but then it suddenly isn’t cheaper when it grenades your engine (which is also likely out of warranty) 💥bonus, oh you need a new car! Well isn’t that handy for car sales?

Use positive pressure when removing the oil drain plug, you'll feel it become loose of the threads, then in one motion pull it out further than it'll drain. Boom, problem solved.

In the metric world, oil changes are meant to be every 10000km (6000 miles). Maybe that’s how you can make users more conscious about their engine’s oil life

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars @kyleguthrie4598 says:

I have seen so many kias and Hyundais with engine failures. It's ridiculous, and I bet the recommendation for an oil change was 10k miles for this car. I don't even do 10k on my Toyotas despite the manufacturer recommending that interval. Change your oil every 5k or 6 months people .

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars @hvguy says:

I had to explain that just because the SALESMAN misled you, that heap is NOT a Honda.
Sometimes you can lead a dog to the water bowl and he'll just look at you weird……
DO not buy these cars, ASK SCOTTY Kilmer

PS I think the oil pickup screen is probably mostly clogged- too TRADE IT IN for a Toyota even if it's ten years old

That's sad. I had that same Sonata model (2011) and the original engine made it over 200,000 miles. I don't own it anymore so no idea how it's doing now.

The GDI variant of the Hyundai/Kia Nu 2.0 engines are actually 4.4 quarts of oil, not accounting for oil filter.

Regarding the charging block for the light bar. The purple color doesn’t matter, it’s mostly for aesthetic purposes.
On the block, you’ll see a Watt number. Usually it’s anywhere from 5w – 25w. You have to find a replacement of the same wattage or it won’t work.

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars @TheCrystalGlow says:

This is why you ABSOLUTELY cannot use conventional oil on these kinds of cars. Cutting costs will cost you an engine. Now I’ve done 10,000 mile oil changes on my Kia forte. It’s just fine. Buuuut I use a really good full synthetic oil and really good filter. Synthetic does not typically sludge under any circumstances.

i have a 2022 subaru crosstrek 6 speed manual. i do my own oil changes, the car never sees the dealer but i do it myself religiously at 4K miles. i used walmart supertech full synthetic. you dont need to spend $100 on an oil change, but oil changes are not optional. do it BEFORE the manufacture's recommended interval. make sure you use the recommended grade of oil and that it meets the SAE recommendation on the oil cap and you are good to go.

a 13K mile oil change is completely unacceptable or not ok (lol)

People are idiots. These new cars may state higher intervals but that's ONLY under very few light conditions. They require very light oil also for tight clearances and lighter grade oil is more suspectible. I once did an oil change on a newer Hyundai and believe it or not it was 26,000 miles OVERDUE. Whether that's correct is beyond me but it had less than 2 quarts in it and was black syrup sludge. The car only had 56000 miles on it. Check engine light, low oil pressure light, etc lit up the dashboard. It's just ridiculous. And what's worse is that people like this are the ones to want warranty to cover it.

This is pretty typical of a Hyundai owner in my shop. Hyundai's really need 3-5k oil changes. I think there should be a class action lawsuit against the oil companies. 10K is ridiculous and most people already are stingy with vehicle maintenance so they probably interpret 10K for 15k-20K miles and then a mitigating circumstance is with Kia/Hyundai, those engines grenade themselves as soon as the warranty is up.

  88. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars @johnkilcer says:

On non computer type engines we fill the crank case with diesel and let it sit overnight. Drain amd add new oil, pull plugs and turn over to ensure no hydrolock. Run it up and down the street a few times then fresh oil change again. Works great on stuff that has been sitting with nasty oil for 40 years.
