Thank you for the fix of an ancient ford E150 Econobox.

  2. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars darkholyPL says:

You know, you could have just glued those two pieces of plastic cover together…

  3. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars sean holt says:

I would have done the same thing. If it saves the customer money and it is not structure and saves the customer money or is a win for me

  4. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Martin Audet says:

As you said, Ray. this was an old vehicle and the panel you cut away to access that one bolt was brittle and non structural anyway. I noticed it cracked when you cut a piece away, so it would likely crack going over a bump. I would be happy if I were that vehicle's owner, knowing you saved me a substantial amount of money. Otherwise, I can see why this repair is seldom done. Ford priced the customer out of it.

  5. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Sean Bancroft says:

I always suspect that the people who complain the loudest about doing that to a customer's car wouldn't hesitate to do it to their own, if it would save a few bucks.

  6. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mark Li says:

Zip ties are soo satisfying Ray

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars David Chase says:

Save the customer money the vehicle is old and won't miss the plastic

I am always impressed with your professionalism and how you care about customers cost when possible. A true professional!!!

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Goosee9 says:

I don't think the zip tie mod was necessary. The teeth/tabs in the top piece slot into the bottom piece and the key guide that you put on last helps keep it in place. I don't think any of those tabs were broken.

That being said, I 100% agree with cutting the plastic on top to get to the bolts.

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gary Lozado says:

I usually don't comment, but on this one I went to school. Thanks Ray!

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael Lawrence says:

Ray, you’re a brilliant mechanic and saving the customer money is never a bad thing. Aside from that, if you get away with it it’s always a good thing.

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael Lawrence says:

How do you live in a place so bloody hot? I’d be afraid that I’d melt…

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Lynn Lovelace says:

We use shortened bits and ratcheting wrenches all the time and you wouldn’t have to cut the plastic

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Paul Fogarty says:

2nd time I’ve watched this and I have to say that you worry me doing this to someone’s vehicle – how is it that you became such a sensible, brilliant mechanic. It upsets me to think that anyone would go the whole hog and charge an owner hundreds of pounds just to change those bushings
You keep on doing good work Ray I for one would back you 100%. If you ever in the UK come and visit I will shake your hand for doing it your way good luck for the future

    Well done mate

Master Mechanic for all Mechanics. Hands down.
Skills, Personality, Attitude, Humor, Patience, Cleanliness and A Heck of a Guy. 💯💐🥇🏆👍🏾

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Daryl Hudson says:

I have to add this why don't you mechanics and anyone else with a business have a plaque made up that says the Golden Rule and under that Do one to others as you would have them do unto you. I bet you get compliments and respect from your customers if you do. 🇺🇲

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Daryl Hudson says:

God bless you, Ray, and all who help each other. Back in the day when The Golden Rule was still on a plaque on the wall in classrooms of our schools…" Do unto others as you would want others to do unto you."…we did not have school shootings, children cutting themselves, confused what sex they were, disrespecting elders, parents, law enforcement, etc was not something we condoned. Peer pressure said don't speak or act like a fool. Anyway, good job. God bless. 👏👍🕊️😇❤️

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Love Of Christ says:

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mark Summers says:

    Fine Job…

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars George Lowles says:

Well done Ray. Plastic trims that serve no purpose like that are a pain to deal with. I have resorted to a multi tool with a fine tooth blade or as suggested a Dremel. Great that you look after your customers.👍👏

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Doug Williams says:

hope you put the orange thing back on the keychain

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Drover Moore says:

Now I know how to do it! Thanks Ray!

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars airplane george says:

I would have done that to save 3 minutes.

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ThenewBH says:

Unhook the shift indicator string and remove the 4 column support bolts. Drop column down, now you can get the 2 straps out. Not a single part of the dash has to come out. This is a 1 hour job including replacing the shift cable and PRNDL switch which are always bad once the shift sleeve components go bad.

Improvising always saved me hundreds of dollars, and as long as it doesn't do any harms, wat da he'll, just git her donnnnne, your my favorite super tech smartest mechanic ever in this whole wide world,da dude dooooo

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Eileen Hawkins says:

The answer is if you don't know what holds it together, and it's not science, it's obviously magic.
Also you need to start saying that something will happen "theoretically."

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars palladini971 says:

You have to do what needs to be done, and after it all said and done, it will never been seen by the customer unless they watch this video. In the grand scheme of the construction of that truck, removing that bit of plastic does not effect it in any way!

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dennis Laur says:

Given that van is worth about $200, cutting the plastic to save them $500 is ok.

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mike Taylor says:

    Hopefully the tech wasn't "Peetah!"

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bill Jamison says:

Nothing like a good pair of nippers! the hacking will never been seen by the customer, it will save the customer tons of cash, the problem will be solved and the customer will be as happy as a pig in a blanket. I know you thought I was going to say a pig in sheet! I would always trust the judgement of Rainman Ray! He is a Ray of sunshine in a bleak world. Great work, Great price, Happy Customer.

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Malcolm wallace says:

Thank you for saving the owners money, well done RAY

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Eldon Howard says:

    👍

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bob V says:

A lot of so called mechanics would charge them the $600 Flat Rate and still just cut out the plastic!!!! Well done my friend.

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Our Knowledge says:

    use a vacuum. no dust

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bob Bates says:

How about using a cutoff wheel instead of pliers

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mission Hills says:

I fully support your decision to cut away the plastic, just would've been nice if you had have used a rotary cutter of some type

  48. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Sleepybunny Norbun says:

I dont dislike that method, If the owner of the car wants to save money.

  49. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Alan Stone says:

Iv done the same thing good on you your the best mechanic iv seen

  50. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars doz says:

As for breaking the plastic, in a place like that.
Its saving work and money but I think the customer should be informed about it and have a choice. But that's just, my opinion. You are allowed to make some on the call decisions as a mechanic or while working on something that's necessary. But knowing this job and the fitting, I would have opted to ask the customer.
