In this video I show how to replace an ignition starter switch I diagnosed in a previous video. This should cover 2000-2005 GMC Jimmy / Chevy S-10 / Isuzu Hombre / GMC Sonoma / GMC Envoy / Chevy S-10 Blazer. I am not positive though so double check with appropriate service manual before beginning.
I hope you find this video helpful as an aid in your repair and if you do please subscribe to our channel, like us on Facebook and give this video a thumbs up!

I nearly replaced the entire ignition system before I found this video thank you so much my pocket appreciates you
And I’m done… new switch installed and works great 👍
Have you ever seen the switch cause the issue of where it won’t start and the truck chimes even though the keys are out of the ignition?
Thanks for the video. I’m still a little intimidated, but a lot more confident in being able to do it myself!
So I just replaced the ignition in my 95 GMC Jimmy and I cannot get the door buzzer to stop going off
Eric, you have a huge data bank in your brain to remember all these little details for all of the jobs you do. Very impressive.
I just changed out my ignition switch on my 98 s10 with the 4.3 and now my truck won't start I turned the key to the run position and then took the switch out but still nothing any tips?
Great video and thanks, saving for that day that I know is coming
1997 gmc sonoma but I lost the key how do I get it off I can't turn it with no key
How about if I lost my key??????
Good video, lots of good info here I can use on my 99 S10, thanks ! (Liked and subscribed)
This is AWESOME!!! I have a 2000 Chevy S10. I have been struggling with a intermittent issue that when it gets really cold out that my truck will crank and not start. I have taken it to many shops locally and all they did or suggested was to change the battery. Cause when they pull the truck in their heated shop and check the battery they find that it is low on voltage from trying to start the truck. So they replace the battery and because the truck is warm enough from sitting in there heated shop it fires right up. Until I get it home and let it sit in the cold overnight and the next morning same thing. Cranks and no start. I have been dealing with this for years and like I said taken it to multiple shops. And no one can figure it out. I was ready to give up and go into debt up to my eyeballs and buy a new truck until I came across your video. Could it be that simple? I let my truck sit outside overnight in subzero temperature. The next morning I went to start my truck. Cranks but no start. Checked to see if I had spark. No spark while cranking it over. So I took a hairdryer and warmed up my ignition switch area for about 5 to 10 minutes. And it fired right up. I tried this for 2 days each morning trying to start it. It wouldn't start until I warmed up the ignition switch. So I replaced it myself by following your video and it's been good ever since. It's a GREAT feeling getting in my truck in the morning after sitting all night in subzero temps and having it fire right up.
I can't thank you enough. Not sure where you are located. But if you were in my area in WI I would take all my mechanical problems to you. You are awesome!!!
Thanks again
The reason im here? Yep.i have to do this job.😔 dang gm ignitions! Id like to find the designer of these things in a dark alley 😡
Nice repair Eric O loved the Diag Test Video Pretty simple and easy ignition switch replace @SouthMainAutoRepairLLC
Great video bro thanks. I used a 4mm socket because i didn’t have the E5 for anyone who might run into the same problem
Thank you SOOOO freaking much…. Bear hug, bro! Your guidance was impecable!
Great Video.
Hey do you have a video for replacing the ignition lock cylinder ?
I don't want to just drill it out.
And I want to be able to use my old key. I bought 2 kinds of replacements.
One has the little things to make it be able to match the old key.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart, from a working man.
Thank you so much
🏆
What is the part number?
Could this trigger an p1860 code?? Truck doesn’t go into overdrive but once you clear the code it’ll work
Excellent, my Chevy Blazer is wrong I trying now to change the ignition switch, thanks best regards from Monterrey
hell yell got a friend having same problem he's changed everything so since i've seen this i'll check this out see if it helps Thanks
i don't even own one of these haha ha. a friend picked one up for 3500,00 with 65k miles ..looks new too..
Another great video.
My favorite
I wonder if this same component would cause it to try starting with the key off.
Thanks your video s have helped a lot with my old s10 trucks
You have any videos showing how too removing the key cylinder housing
264 people don't like the way he removed the switch I guess. It made since to me but then again I'm just nuts. 🙂
Clear, concise and accurate, you my friend are a real mechanic with a great demeanor. Thanks for sharing
About as perfect as you can ask for. Everybody else seems to have you do steps you don't need or skip the important stuff
Best diy car repair video I've used, spot on instructions & perfect shots of the parts being removed. If I hadn't had to wait for O'Reilly to get tge new switch in, I would've been done before it got hot today.
Desperately needing help, got a 2000 blazer. Key wouldn’t turn drilled it out completely now it will turn to on but we cannot get old cylinder to release While pushing down on pin. Tried all positions, please help
Good video. Bad vehicle. Don't ever buy one of these pieces of shit. My brother is into his for probably twice of what it's worth. Problem after problem, piece of GM shit. Buy a Toyota
My 2001 Chevy Blazer 4.3L V6 was doing the same thing as the one in the video and i did everything you said and now it wont crank or start! Any suggestions as to why?
As a woman who works on her own stuff or assists husband, this makes me less afraid, lol. Wiring is NOT my thing. His either! Thank you for the clear info.
This is the best mechanic on the internet and I have been repairing vehicles for over 50 years. Thank you Eric O. for this great resource.
Otherwise, very succinct & lucid video manners. Clearly pro vacative.
Don't poo poo on aftermarket parts if nothing else is available when you need it. Sounds racist or like jingoism. Chinese parts are fine if you need them.
dude I have replaced my ignition control module, my entire distributor, alternator, fuses etc. and I believe my friggin problem the whole time has been the dang ignition switch. OMG. im so mad right now. ive thrown so much money at this thing its ridiculous
Before all I would get was the lights and no movement at all replaced the switch now it wants to turn over but it doesn't actually do it can anybody help me
I have a 2001 Sonoma. I wish you could check it out. It has nearly the same problem.
So I got a 96 chevy s10 2.2 2wd I got no power to the fuel pump but at the relay in the dash I got power and when I led a power supply to the pump the truck still wouldn't start do you think it could be the ignition switch?
How the hell can 255 down thumbers hate the SMA channel??? Eric O is King, and should have the chrome crown of wrenches and ratchets. By far, the only YouTube mechanic who makes you feel like you’re there with him as you watch him take things apart on a vehicle, and fixes it. Very comprehensive, informative, and has the patience of an Angel.
Thanks for you help… god bless you 👍🏽👍🏽
