Wondering why you don't just change the boot, rather than the whole shaft?

I took the locking nuts off mine first time i had trouble with the key showing some wear, but i replaced them with regular nuts the same day.

I believe those C clips are installed so in the factory line they can install the shafts and let them hang while everything's moving along. They don't hold the shaft in (we see what it takes to get it out). I had an instruction sheet for a shaft that said to remove it.

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Tom Kennedy says:

Watching you have to dismantle the steering on cars to get the axle out makes me miss my 1981 VW pickup. The transaxle side of the shafts had a flange instead of a splined shaft. Remove six bolts, wiggle the shaft end down, and slide it out of the hub. So much easier. Loved that little truck.

Having watched previous videos I'm surprised you didn't give the CV area a brake cleaner bath prior to it's removal.

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mark Shelhart says:

Older Libertys had a notorious issue with their power windows due to plastic gears that wore prematurely; to the extent that aftermarket companies sprung up that made metal replacements. Thought that might be the case here.

Introduce Peter to us. God bless extra hands!

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars blocki says:

Why do you switch out the whole axle if only the boot it torn? Serious question. I'm really interested, because I'm aware that usually only the boots get replaced (as long as the joints are still fine).

For your daily impact and other tools test, check out Torque Test Channel here on the tube. They run every impact known to man (and woman) through a bunch of tests to see how many beans they have.

Taking the wheel locks was the best thing to. Unfortunately the stupid owners never replaced the missing lug nuts. I have never been a fan of locking locks. They always strip out over time even when locking lug nuts were all the rage in the 1970's. I always replace the locking lug nuts on any car or truck I have owned.

I cringed when you started hammering an aluminum knuckle to break the taper on a ball joint….. that's a big no no

Your lucky, I have a commander and that lower control arms bolt seized in both of mine and I had to cut it out and replace the whole arm on both sides.

Your attitude is great because mechanics have a very tough hard job especially pleasing the public. I mechanic for my own and I use bad words cause it releases the tension. Been fixing my own cars since 1959 so I've seen a lot with the automobile changing.

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Shawn 🏴‍☠️ Stafford says:

What Sucks about locking lug nuts. When you have a set, without the key, buy a new set. Ask for the old to be removed, replaced with the new set… To find the old & new both on.

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gregory Clarke says:

    Hi there
As always, a job well done.
I can see that you have quite a bit of pride in your work as I noticed the lower control arm bolt being the wrong way around, most mechanics would not have put the bolt back the way it came out of the factory and would just have left it that way.

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Peter Smart says:

I have no idea why a car company feels the need to say a vehicle os trail/offroad rated! I have seen many come into the shop with the entire front suspension/ripped from the frame/uni-body mounts, from hitting a snow bank!

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Reima Henriksson says:

Thumbs up, just, when assembling, why don't you use any grease on bolts and nuts 😊, time is not an issue 😊

  48. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Robert Morris says:

You should have done ' Duelling Impact Wrench ' with that lower bolt !

  49. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Scott Pinkslam says:

These cars are complete junk. The owners never maintain them either.

  50. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dwayne Madsen says:

When everything seems to be going too easy and you start to have little doubts creep in. Another fine piece of cinematography, self-criticized camera placement not withstanding! Stay safe.
