Doesn't Toyota require ATF for power steering? Looks like regular PS fluid in the bottle, but I can't see any details on the label.

These jobs I referred to as eating an elephant. It just one bite a time till your done. The best part about eating an elephant is you get to choose, start with trunk and save the crappy part for last, or start at the back end, and get s**ty part out of the way.
    Great video as always
    Thanks

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Al N. says:

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Toneàloke says:

Crowsfoot wrenches are trash it would have been a lot easier if you would have just cut the line and put a socket on it from the jump

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Tom Semer says:

A 3/8 crows foot flare nut set may have helped. Great job!

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars BaddaBingBaddaBoom says:

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars toledotom57 says:

the new lines had one end I would call a double-flared. Not a compression. most hydraulic lines have triple lock fittings or double flared. The flare fits inside a housing similar to brake lines and the nut compresses the flare into the male end.

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars rob8742 says:

You should look into getting some ratcheting line wrenches they would've been handy here

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Shawn MacDonald says:

If I'm replacing the lines anyways I always just cut the line and use a 6 point socket if there is room

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dave Keeping says:

why not use a line wrench for this

  48. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Judi H. says:

Ray a drop of penetrating oil would help break those fittings free. How come you don't have flair nut wrenches in your tool box?

  49. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ian Giles says:

2 weeks later customer comes complaining headlights are dull and the car won't start , then blames ray for not fixing the battery… (he told you ) Broad Shoulders is obviously an asset all motor mechanics and other service trades must possess to stay in business.

  53. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Carl M says:

How bad is it killing you by letting that battery leave like that?!

  54. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ron H says:

Serious question: I see a lot of mechanics using brake cleaner, degreaser, that sort of thing, just spraying it everywhere to clean stuff. Does it eat up rubber parts? Or is that something my dad told me back in the day that doesn't apply today? Just curious!

  55. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ron H says:

Bro, if you mechanic without a sawzall, do you even mechanic? lol

  56. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars eeassa says:

Well that's a first. Ray using a sawzall in the engine compartment.

  57. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars cengeb says:

I live on the Northern California coast, on an acre of land about a block from the ocean. Because we are unable to garage my wife’s Prius the wheels are starting to corrode like the ones on this Corolla. The combination of wind and salt air is devastating. The saying here is, “Even plastic rusts.”

  60. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars cengeb says:

That car so much oil under it that it was buoyant.

  71. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Chris Housley says:

Ray makes the “shop supply” fee make so much more sense now with his liberal use of brake cleaner. Keep up the good work.

  72. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Rodrigue Estime says:

One of the worst jobs I've ever done was change power steering lines out of 2006 Honda Pilot. Never again will say no every time no working room had to use a crows foot and my hands as the ratchet.

  73. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Rod Knocking says:

Imagine working at the stall next to Ray and hearing him narrate his work all day long,. Unclick, click, gravity, come to me, I know you can't see..😂

    I Need Some Advice Please!
I (23yr F) have my first car for 2 years now, it just showed an engine light an I took it to AutoZone to run a diagnostic. popped P2181. since I have a 2020 Hyundai the guy said if have to get the part from my dealership to fix but I can't even get my car checked out at there since they're booked into Nov an I'm due to go on deployment probably before that. I don't know what the best action to take is and I never taken my car to a mechanic shop so I don't know which one will best serve me either. please help I'm so embarrassed

  77. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars twicebitten thasme says:

Design engineers have proven time and again they are the absolute laziest corporate drones to have existed. How much extra would it have cost to place fittings in an accessible location. And how cheap are the executives of almost every industry to insist on parts being made of cheaper materials and processes? Simply disgusting. Always pandering to a penny.
Anyway, as always, interesting video. Thanks for sharing.

  78. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars bohica snafu says:

I am changing my oil but i hesitated about putting Royal Purple oil in the engine. What do you about Royal Purple oil?

  81. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars J. Helvie says:

Nothing makes a mess like power steering.

  82. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Greg Dodsworth says:

Hey Ray :), I'm curious do you have specialty wrenches for use on hydraulic lines, sometimes called flare nut wrenches? Its so easy to butcher a stubborn nut with a regular open end wrench.

  83. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jerry PEAL says:

As Eric O would say “ What do you want me to do , cut it off “ ?

  84. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars J Jack says:

Bolt cutters to cut the line? Small tubing cutter?

  85. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Justin a says:

I'd recommend getting Ruby answering service

  86. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Randy Mack says:

But Ray you washed off all of the corrosion protection ( Valdez oil spill)!

  87. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars William Kujat says:

i use a behind the sink wrench for a lot of hard to get at fittings both getting on and off and i use red dexron on toyos like your videos but northern ohio is such a rust hole i am jealous

  88. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars G. Malone says:

Seems the hardest power steering pressure lines I have replaced have all been Toyo's! Also I think it takes ATF versus power steering fluid.

  89. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dirtyharry70585 says:

Was that black hose nicked by the blade?

  90. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Paul Pierce says:

Please use open box end wrenches. Never use an open end on line nuts. Sorry to rant, but I see you do that a lot. Rounded line nuts resort to vise grips if there is room.

  91. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars scanner lanier says:

I was wondering how you would break those lines free. Cutting them and using a socket was brilliant. Rather than a sawzall I wonder if a dremel with a cutting wheel would have been better.
