Today is the day. Check that out pile of concrete in the back of the Silverado That pile came from over here in the third door floor. Remember that strip or whatever of the blocks that I had left over. the plywood wall is down, the poster up, and the door is outside on a trailer? Check it out! Today is finally the day long time coming.
Uh anyway I wanted to touch base and I wanted to personally loud noises Give a huge thank you to the commenter who let me know that I had one of the snap rings misaligned on the drum inside of this 4l60 transmission that I was working on yesterday. I ended up seeing that video or seeing that comment rather before I put the new torque converter on and I noticed uh, what the gentleman had said. So I went ahead and pulled the valve body back out, pulled the pan back off, pulled the valve. The words I pulled the bell housing back off and then I removed that drum.
Sure enough, the thing was misaligned I didn't have it seated properly. so thank you again! You saved the day and you saved this transmission and you saved me a bunch of money and you saved the customer a lot of time. So you are the hero of the channel for the day anyway. I am I'm done jaw jacking for the day I need to get back on this Tahoe I'd like to have this thing running by end of day I have all the parts I've got a replacement turbine shaft seal I think I'm waiting on some exhaust.
Oh yeah, no, hang on I'm waiting on the filter also. I ordered it yesterday morning and Advance Auto Parts has yet to deliver my filter assembly so I'm waiting on that. However, I can still reinstall that trans without the filter because I'll just pull that pan back down one more time. Pop it in there and we'll be good to go.
Incidentally, I'm also waiting on a replacement thermostatic valve for the cooler Line Assembly that's coming from a dealership in New Mexico so I may not have that today. Actually, it probably hasn't even shipped yet. but I can always go back in and just pop this unit out and replace it with a new thermostatic valve so that won't be an issue either. So thank you guys for watching this short little video.
See you guys later on the full length version of the reassembly. Have a good day! And by the way, if you missed the disassembly video of this particular Tahoe Just checking the links down inside of this video's description and it will take you to the current running long form video video of this transmission removal. See you guys later! Inner Transmission:.
Bypass the thermostat in the trans. TransGo makes a bypass for that well worth it, keeps trans temp about 20 plus deg. cooler
Give him the warm POTB. Good job, Pat, Good job, Pat, Good job, Pat. U saved more than that. It would've been a unhappy owner, another in and out with trans, rays $$ to do that and parts to repair, and then wasted time. Idk what vehicle that goes in but I just had a 2015 Ram 6.4 Auto trans go out. I found 1 used for $3800.00 with 288k miles. No new at all anywhere even Chrysler. Only option is rebuild by a company that builds pulling truck type gear box. So it's tweaked and tough as nails but cost almost 8 grand when all said and done. My 07 town car with less than 100k miles cost less than that. I could've bought it 2 times for what a auto trans rebuild and in and out job cost. Idk about this trans but if it's anything like that it would've been a HUGE mistake. We know alot about alot but nobody knows it all. Always better to ask a pro, research, etc when any doubt is there. No shame in admitting Hey Idk about this cause the commenter did. We need more of this helping 1 another out and less negative BS. Good on u both. I like to see this cause it gives me hope that not all ppl are Aholes.
Reeeeeeeeeeee
What about what "the commenter" said about the pump damage?
😜👉 Git Er Done…
Hero for just the day? That was a nice catch that saved some A$$e$$ 😂
May have been an end of transmission for today, but won't be for the Tahoe!
Why didn't you show what snap ring was miss aligned when you fixed your mistake?
The humble guy! nice
skutahuniai4830 is a transmission technician.
I think it's just cool that Ray takes time to read through the comments.
Very cool 😎
Yes I never touch an Automatic trans. Glad that person helped out. Cheers from Aus
😎
RAY, you are SO GENUINE
All part of the "customer" service, good to see the community pull together to help ray.😊
Glad to know you are a fake
really dont plasy with us
Bypass the thermostatic valve. A cooler running transmission doesn't hurt anything unless you live in Alaska or Siberia.
Wow! such respect to you from the advisor. You Ray are blessed.
DVD:)
florida man destroys transmission
In an attempt to resolve a Small Evap leak P0442 on my 2008 Forester, I changed out the Purge Valve – why not, right? The gas cap is a new OEM and the filler neck is clean. Is there some sort of re-learn required? If so, how could I do it.
Also, I shut the Check Engine / Cruise Control lights by disconnecting the battery terminals. Is this adequate or does it need to be cleared with a scan tool?
Thanks much.
You must be Canadian since You say Silver-ray-do vs. Silver-rah-do which is the proper pronunciation since it is an American Vehicle.
Who was the commenter? That person's getting a 6 pack of Stella Artois from me!
Great community..
Wow. So cool that your suscribers are so knowledgeable. I watch and to me its all magic.
I know I am a field with the current discusion but I have a question.
What is your opinion/experience with 6.5 duramax engines? Are they any good? Longevity? Mpg? Performance modifications? I am considering a few motorhomes that have the 6.5 duramax engine. Thanks Ron
I love the fact that there are other professionals watching your videos. And that one caught the snap ring misalignment and wrote to you about it. What a great thing to do, helping each other like that. I am encouraged that good people are still out there!
well done Ray for admitting a mistake it takes a man to do that ,thanks for the video
More research/preparation=fewer mistakes with customer's vehicle.
Good on ya for looking through comments for that one key piece of info that saves the day and good on the guy who left said comment!!! overall great interactions leading to progress.
Yea! To crowdsourcing problem solving.
Just when was feeling confident about tearing into a transmission Ray almost grenades one. 😢 I'm terrified once again. 😂
great result,,thankyou Ray,,looking forward to the rebuild/reinstall..👌👍
I want to see the door going in!
Usta was you got a truck. Got a truck transmission. Got a truck engine.
But this is a Tahoe. Mom might want to drive. Also the 3 pedal thing might scuff her Birkenstock, in fashion, hoof protectors.
But since then we also got to have a hand free for the cell phone at all times. Besides a who has time to shift.
Truck engine? Maybe if it meets CARB specs. Truck transmission? Not really. Hey most of them are for the old lady to drive the new one.
I never had a problem with a C series with a manual. No need for a tranny cooler. So when the original puked put in a rebuilt auto majic tranny radiator. Happy engine, no over heating.
But every once in a while had to crawl under it and adjust the clutch. Clutch change was took longer to go get one and bring it back.
Rebuild it ?
Never. Felt real sad when the frame just wore out. Happens when you just change the oil early and often.
Flush and replace the coolant the same way. Also makes the radiator last longer.
But it is a good thing for the manufacturer to have all that conveniences. And those barely adequate service intervals?
Good enough to get past the warranty periods.
It breaks and you buy what broke wrapped with all new parts and shiny new paint.
It also makes California happy even if you are a long way downwind of Forney.
But it is OK for them send their mind pollution to me.
But the good news. The economy is slowing. Interest is climbing.
For those good with math. Repair just may be a bit cheaper than $71,000. Rainman Ray makes money.
But GM has a better idea lets see if we can make it un-repairable.(Not the only manufacturer that does it)
Well Raymond, now you have the the pipes off, you should inspect and replace the muffler berrings. Very important parts. Ask your customer if he'd like to save some and do it now wile you can get to them, labor and parts free on this one but some people do not want you messing with blinker fulids or muffler berrings without approval first.
I was just getting into the video and it stopped. Looking forward now to the rest of it please.
Ray working on transmissions is like looking into the nether word. To be an expert is a whole different breed of mechanics. I was a mechanic for 20 yrs at the time I started working stern drives (inboard outboards) man it was intimidating but like anything else (transmissions) once you know the mechanic of it– well it's just another trannie.
I am shocked at how the BRAVO man saw the ring was incorrect– now that's 20/20. I looked at the video twice and still couldn't tell. He knows his stuff.
Honest mechanic
Here I am in Bradenton, all the way from Western Pennsylvania on vacation. We had an issue with our van, and I immediately thought of trying to reach out to you and see if you would take a look at it (fat chance, I know). It ended up being a simple coil replacement, so no biggie, but I would've loved to meet you! Keep up the great work!
Well done that man 👌🏻
Ray you are the Best…. Every Day you learn something New!
That is not a 4L60E that is a 6L80E.
Nice work Giving a shout out and Admitting of a mistake Makes you a better tech brother Learning from mistakes always helps us be stronger 💪 keep up the great work @Rainman Ray's Repairs
I've watched a lot of videos from Precision Transmission out of Texas. Richard always has some tips, tricks, or gotcha nuggets in his videos.
Can I be the next hero ?
DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE!!!!
Trans still must be completely cleaned of all debris for long term reliability. Tis why all good trans shops have pristine 'Clean Assembly Room' avoiding needless Come Backs
Fingers crossed on the trans reassembly and having it work correctly…..
All the valve body seals (trans to valve body) should have been replaced, along with all the shaft seals. Bet she doesnt last long…..
To the viewer that caught that mistake, good eye👍
Hey Ray, I’ve seen some very informative videos from Richard and Teresa educational transmission videos, they do a lot of overhauls on American truck transmissions. The Chanel was called Precision Transmissions from Amarillo in Texas and recently re located to new premises. Richard Is a walking encyclopaedia of knowledge when it comes to transmissions, check it out before you do the next transmission job. Keep the videos coming mate, it’s great to see the progress you have made with the workshop. Watching from Perth Western Australia. 😁👍🇦🇺
That commenter is due at least an autographed can of brake cleaner.
I think the hero needs a hat
Takes Ball-bearings to pull down a trans like that.
We're always learning, no matter how old or experienced we are.
At least you held your hands up.
Welcoming back!
LOL ended video with "End of transmission" I say to myself, well no, not this time. 🤣 Great job Ray and commenter!
Thermostat bypass kit is $40. High temps helps kill the trans
Glad you read the comment.
High five and a big shout out to the commentator that took the time to share their knowledge with you Ray, and all of us! It would have been a catastrophic result otherwise.
Big shout out to you Ray for posting this video. Making a mistake is one thing, it's what you do about it that really counts. Part of what you did is report back to us, along with the rectification. Thanks for sharing!!
You got a team in your shop and a team online rooting for you Ray. So glad you gave credit to the eagle-eyed commentator who spotted a re-assembly issue in time for you to rectify it easily. No humble pie eating necessary… respect has just notched up a bit higher too.
Hire that guy. Lol. Great job. Great catch
Well done to the person that made the comment saved Ray and he's will to admit he did something wrong sign of a good mechanic
well, that answers that question. Often wondered if Ray had time for all these comments, and it appears that yes he does 😜
Shout out to the commenter that shared his knowledge to prevent bad things from happening. 👍
Crisis avoided 😅!
This is just another of a great many reasons I enjoy this channel so thoroughly. I also know that I will NOT be attempting a trans rebuild myself LOL
Thank you for being yourself and doing what you do good sir.
I'm so excited that two drops of pee came out
Yer ,thanks to that guy. Well done..
If you ever have a problem that you can't figure out, put it in a video. The next day you will find the solution in the comments. No question about it. The level of expertise here in the comments is really quite impressive.
We all make mistakes, especially on things we are unfamiliar with, repeat the process again and you will become a master in the subject of not making that same mistake again.
Love this channel. It's the interaction between Ray and his team that is so good!
👍🏻😀🇬🇧
Yah know I would like a shirt with my name embroidered on it. That would be pretty cool. My fathers name was Ray as well my gramps. Not saying I want Ray for the name tag , but it might be something you should look into. My dad wore a suit and my gramps wore the blues and a white v neck. Food for thought fella. Just saying 🧐
Yeah! Everyone loves a hero! 👏
See, some people commenting here are pretty smart, we're not all whiny and negative!
That's why, you should always read the comments 😮
I immediately thought of Wonderwall when you said "Today is the day". It's been playing in my head on repeat for the last 6 hours so, thanks Ray 🤣
Sharp!
Ray, we your subscribers have your back. One person can't know everything. You humbly admitted that your not a transmission nam. However, your not afraid to learn. Big shout out to the subscriber who took the time to let you know what was wrong. Stay safe. ❤
Super cool video job good job so please keep them coming GL&HF coming from Dulwich London England(✌peace✌)
That guy's advice might have been good, but why so patronising?
Send that guy a shirt, for sure!!! AND A LINK TO HIS CHANNEL.
I used to watch a YouTube channel called Precision Transmission about a transmission guy in Texas. He was an older gentleman who had a ton of experience and knowledge. I saw him take apart several 6l80 and 6l90 transmissions and I remember him talking about lining up those snap rings in the clutch drums. People from all over the country and even Canada would take their vehicles to him for transmission work. A really down to earth guy. If I find the info on their channel, I’ll post it in a reply to this comment.
Ahhh you do read the comments then😊
Reeeeeeeeeeeeee saves the day for once
That's odd. I was under the impression that these videos are uploaded at least a few days after recording. I stopped commenting my opinions and suggestions when I realized an entire fleet of ships had sailed, long before the video appeared on the channel.
There's an inside track?
I love doing this sorta stuff. But id be scared to do that type of inspection on a customers car especially if im not a transmission guy. Because this video and the previous one is clear ammo for the customer. Regardless if you put that thing back together to spec if that thing fails or grenades in the near future they could make you buy them a new trans, because a non trans tech opened a transmission without clear reason and then later on its broke. Its like having a guy tear down my engine after a missfire and finding out the engine tear down wasnt nessecary BUT later on due to old age etc the engine fails BUT since some rando opened the engine you could easily say hey its their fault its broke. I dont want to be owning multi thousand dollar parts so i would NOT do this again if i were you lol
Glad the man helped you out ray
Great video
Send him ALL THE MERCH
Wow you lucked out, that guy deserves a golden doo-dee-dooo
You’re a good man Ray. Admitting the mistake and giving credit where credit is due. Traits we should all strive to exude.
Send him a shirt and a signed hat 😊😅😊
When a torque converter goes all those shaving are everywhere. Have to rebuilt the whole trannie, cooler lines and cooler and new converter.
What a nice option to have where things can be essentially crowd sourced to save time, money, stress, etc.
Top tier. Top tier.
I really hope that transmission works again, just sayin…
Very informative video today.
It taught me that i dont want anything to do with transmission work ever.
I have a really good mechanic here in Waco in case mine ever needs help.
This video reminded me that I also wanted to make a clarification at some point, but I forgot.
It's about disconnecting the terminals at the car's battery whenever we weld the car's body and any part connected to the car.
I think you do the disconnection from the battery, but in several instances I did not hear you specify this precaution.
I like your videos, they are dynamic, engaging and very educational.
It is a great thing to share your experience with everyone.
Bravo
Reeeeee! Helpful? Sweet! Thanks!
