In this video I diagnose and replace a rear wiper motor on a mercury Mountaineer. It would be the same process as a ford Explorer. The nut that holds them on the glass can be a real pain in the... well you'll see. -Enjoy!

Hey Eric…thanks for this old, but still very useful video!! Question I have is that all voltages are ok except for int 1 and int 2 (2007 exploder doesn't have constant on). Those two voltage read 0.2 volts?! Checked fuses in passenger cmpt and under hood as well as the relay under hood. Any ideas? Try to hot wire motor to confirm that it's wires? Thanks in advance.
awesome plate
I have a 2016 Ford Explorer. The rear window shattered for unknown reasons. A local glass company replaced the glass but now when we turn on the rear wiper and off, it will stop in different positions. We have to turn it off and on several times until it happens to stop in the parked position. Is that a faulty motor or something else? I'll gladly buy something from your swag shop if you can point me in the right direction. ๐
Ask your wife how to do it – she did it in a few minutes in another video ๐
Life doesn't give you seatbelts. A profound concept.
Itโs always the motor Iโm on my second one in 3 years… I love my exploder sooooo much
Ms. O TAUGHT YOU WELL
Hoping you could help me out. I am working on installing a rear wiper motor out of a 2008 explorer in my SxS. Iโm trying to wire it using the control module and with the the help of your video I was able to figure out the wiring. The wiper works as it should expect when I ground the on position wire, the unit goes into the wash mode. I am assuming the module is looking for a resistance to ground of the on position and no resistance for the washer cycle. I havenโt been able to find a wiring diagram and was hoping you could tell me the resistance value so I can purchase the correct size resistor to make it work. Thanks
Another great video,thanks.
i know you can dooo it mr eric great work again ๐
Great video. I like the fact you show it right from the beginning especially with the encountered problems. You had more trouble than I did with the nut, made me feel better. lol Now I have to see if you have a video for my '07 Explorer Temp blend actuator. Fingers crossed, it's getting colder.
So Eric, did you get the SMA license plate idea from Diagnose Dan?
It's pretty ridiculous when you constantly type in what you looking for an you constantly get bullshit that has nothing to do with what you requested. Utube sucks
The scariest video you have ever produced
And using a screwdriver as a drift, you have lost respect for tools for the sake of expediency.
Tsk, you were trying to use the adjustable wrench backwards. You know better.
Well done Eric.
My rear wiper doesn't work. The arm is all loosy-goosy and just hangs straight down. I can hear the motor try to engage when I turn it on. Could it be the motor or a different issue since it doesn't even stay up on the window?
Air hammer
In my saved pile since i have an 08 ford explorer doing the exact same.thing and i need to replace the bugger lol
It always seem like someone is always cutting grass when you have the bay doors open.
I had to let my expedition soak with some pen oil for like a day with the window open just to get that nut off. I live in a Salt State too man. It sucks. I just cleaned up the shaft on mine and antisiezed the shit out of it. If only ford used sealed roller bearings for this instead of a shaft and brass bushings.
what puller is that ive been working on my 05 caravans front wiper arms for 3 days now using the wrench under and haming on the nut to try and break it looste a whole can of penetrating fluid and still nothing
I wonder if you can test that wiper motor direct with the power probe?
Eric when your you tube video
Eric call wife she job done
I cut the nut off with a Dremel since my replacement motor came with a nut. Hope that helps others.
Lincoln Aviator too lol. I'm one of the few who has one and takes care of it lol
A1 Cardone……Sister Company of Dorman.
I see the rear back glass has been replace to just saying
Feed her taters Eric I wanna see some glass flying
Thatโs was a job for โbig nastyโ ๐
You really epitomize the need to constantly be thinking and paying attention to what's happening all through the job. The chance that you are often redoing or chasing someone elses job before you get to it requires a wider scope in the thought process. Those metal grommets were a prime example…one was one way and one the other. Good logic with the blend of intelligence and mechanical thinking applied. Excellent work Eric, love these videos!! Thanks for all you do!. Jim.
I have broke the glass
You are really great at your job! We need more mechanics like you in the U.S.
Changing the name of your shop to โ All GIrl Garageโ ….. LOL
No need to worry about twisting the studs off the glass when tightening. If they twists off, just back off 1/4 turn and your good. Also I can't understand why you worry about breaking the glass. If it breaks you can just rewind the video and it goes back together. My wife has a friend who needed a wiper motor changed on her caravan and i decided not to do it because with my luck the glass would have broken. She went to the university of YouTube and became youTube certified and did it herself and all went well for her. This was a great video, lots of suspense just waiting for the window to break. Glad it didn't for your sake.
I was lookin' forward to a lil' love tap from the Big Nasty.
Mercedes wipers will not work with the hood unlatched or passenger windows down or doors open.

Working on auto glass can be exciting! I once tried to get an old school cell antenna off the back window on my 79 Caprice, stuck on good. So, I turned the screw driver a touch sideways to pry it off and…..BOOM!….there goes my back window in a million pieces. Scared the hell out of me!
I'm still looking for that criticism and I'm going to find some๐ till next ๐ฅ.
One is gray with orange, and one is orange with gray. Sheesh, when working on a Ford, you have to think Ford. ๐
The other thing I've observed is a shiny new SOUTHMAINAUTO plate!!! You've got bigger Kahoonies than me Eric, I don't swing on those things with a dirty big long ratchet or go near them with a hammer & we don't even get the rust issues you have! My number one on those is go straight to the rattle gun, do not pass go, do not collect $200!!!
